I had to write a persuasive essay for school. If you abused animals, would this make you consider stopping? (sorry its long) Thousands of animals, pets usually, are abused a day. Tens and thousands of cats and dogs are kicked, hit, abused, and for what? Nothing. Animals were put on earth to be loved and to love in return. Whatever happened to the saying ‘Man’s best friend’? Most ‘humans’ who abuse animals do it to take out their anger. Plenty of people these days are running low on money. Some are having friends and family problems. And instead of doing something productive to help those problems, people go and take it out on their trusting pets. Other times people abuse animals for control. You can’t control a human as much as you can to a dog or cat. If you kick or hurt another human out of control, you can get sued. But if it’s your own pet, who are they going to tell? No one. Some people these days even get pets, just to feel in control. No longer are pets bought to be a loving companion, but a living thing to control and beat. They need to feel power, because they think they deserve to have power and to be respected. But people who sink down to that level deserve nothing, absolutely not a pet. Most people who abuse animals are adults, males most often, but some are kids. Kids in their teenage year whose life’s are unfulfilled and they think they deserve more. They abuse these animals early on, and it doesn’t go away as they get older; it gets worse. In 1997, a study proved that 40% of animal abusers had also harmed people, too. Some of those were husbands, who also abused their wives and even killed some of her pets. Not only are pets abused, but so are such animals as circus animals. Elephants are often fun and exciting to watch at circuses to some, as they perform exotic stunts. Onstage, they get treated well, to impress the audience. But when the curtains close, the animals are no longer treated well. Most elephants are chained 23 hours in a day from the time they are babies. Imagine a life in chains, with only an hour to relax. And that hour may be of performing. Also, those tricks aren’t learned by treats and being told ‘Good job!’. Often times, those animals are forced to learn their routines by being poked, prodded, and even sometimes burned to do their stunts and remember them. People abuse their pets, expecting them not to do anything. And they don’t. Some ‘lucky’ abused ones get abused, then they get put in the pound for some nice family to pick them. Or not. But I would think anything would be better than living a live of fear of your owner and pain. My grandma got a dog from the pound. She got him when he was just a puppy, and nobody knew much about his previous owners, which is what happens with most animals abused and put in the pound. After taking him home she noticed that he got real iffy about feet. He wont let anyone lay a foot on him, not even a toe. He lets people pet him and scratch him, but if it has feet involved, he starts growling. We think his previous owner would kick him, and push him with their feet, because he wont let feet anywhere near him; and my grandma noticed this right away. Animal abuse is wrong. The people who do it, don’t deserve to be called a human. People may think ‘Oh, it’s just an animal. They don’t have feelings so I’m not doing anything bad.’, but their wrong. Animals do have feelings, and inside their just like us. They are living, breathing things, just like us. They have feelings, and brains to comprehend most of what’s going on. Sure, their not as smart as us, and they cant talk to say “Hey stop that!”, but they do know when they are hurt. Some places animal abuse is getting better, but some it’s getting worse. Its nice to see that some people are getting smart and feeling it in their heart to be nice to animals, and I hope with all my heart that every abuser realizes sometime that what they did is wrong so we can all once and for all stop unneeded animal cruelty. more

This is a comparative list of what "PETA" the animal lovers should/shouldn't be doing and feel free to share opinions, flame me for touching a sensitive nerve and even going towards this road: what peta shouldn't do: - they shouldn't be protesting about a cause that pales in comparison to what actual animal rescue groups actually do and they take up rallies to the circus, KFC, and fur coat makers and animal testing labs. This is useless to go against because most of those places don't violate any major ethics other than peta's and that is just for existing. -they shouldn't endorse the ALF because they destroy progress to humanity and they aren't a research organization, they are a group of rag tag bombers that love to destroy work on anti viruses and cures for potentially incurable diseases. They need to make a bridge to work in a much economical way of destroying the science community (like supporting ID and retro sciences like ESP) -they need to stop wasting the money that was entrusted to them on giant buildings with a lab, chemicals and a Giant Indoor Freezer that Kills unwanted dogs that they deem unfit(poor pit bulls) and they need to try and donate to causes that will stop the endangering process of other species such as the giant frog in Africa that's constantly eaten. what they should do: - they need to do what rescue ink does and SAVE dogs and other animals that are in trouble by bad owners that raise sick dogs, put them into dog fights and even give lessons on how to handle a stray animal carefully. They don't and they are spending useless protests and give "name changes" to places and buildings deemed inappropriate to their eyes. do they even give this stuff a chance? -they should work with the science community to increase progress to the point where we have more than enough products that come from meat that don't cause animal deaths. The need for meat and other products are going to be infinite, so why protest chickens, cows and other farm animals being abused at Certain farms( they show the same footage of the same place) that actually violate industry protocol? -Stop making shock protest that are stupid, idiotic and a waste of Donations from around the country that want to see animal adoption awareness. Steve Irwin showed how to treat certain animals in the wild if you met them, and Caesar Milan will do more than Newkirk would ever do if she had a child; Caesar will Tell you how to raise a dog and get a great dog without hassle. Resolved Question: Do you think its wrong to educate children about negative issues?

Im talking about animal abuse. Recently in my home town some activists (per the circus coming) handed out coloring books and work books to students in an elementary school. One in particular dressed as an elephant. I read some parents were opposed stating the children would be traumatized and other celebrated the effort to educate youngster about circus animal abuse. I will not provide my personally on this becuz anytime people disagree it usually turns to an arguement not a debate. I do have young neices and nephews in school so i was curious where you people stand on the debate. Now we must all agree (in most cases) that children who are cruel to animals usually end hurting people as adults. However IMO a junior high school would have made more sense..IMHO i think education about society good and bad does need to start with the young regardless of what the particular subject. but at least attempt to educate children who will grasp the concept of what is morally acceptable (to some) and what isntI do agree that the circus needs to be repremanded but is it not people (parents or not) who spend $$$ to help keep them in business o-O i mean there are circuses who dont have animal acts..Again i like reiterate i dont think you need to show a child a picture of a baby seal being clubbed (thats just horrible) but at least to say animals can hurt and be sad too more

Do you think they are? Do you know for sure? I took my kids to the circus yesterday. We left after an hour. I was uncomfotable watching the ponies & dogs do outrageous 'tricks'. The woman kept snapping her whip. I figured the animals were performing out of fear- not love or for treats...What's your thoughts?Unfortunately circuses are not banned. Though, they should be. i'm vegan and i love animals with all my heart. i make donations, petition, and protest often. whenever i petition, people usually laugh at the causes. like for kentucky fried cruelty, mccruelty, and the abuse that takes place at the ringling circus. i am a member of peta. people just don't take it seriously. i respect their opinion (sorta) but they make fun of me and say "plants have feelings too!" or "who gives a shit about animals?" or "animals eat other animals, why don't you?" or something like that. some even eat their food right in my face (literaly) and say "murder tastes good". what should i do? more

My mom used to take my brother and I to the circus every year when they came to town so I recently purchased tickets to take my two small children to see the Ringling Bros. Over the Top performance. I was HORRIFIED to research and find all the criminal acts and abuse associated with their company over the last 15 years or so. I will never buy tickets to their circus again. Are there ANY circuses that aren't known for animal abuse?? My children love animals but I do not want to take them to places to see animals that are being abused nor do I want to promote something like that. more

As many of you know, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) praise animals so highly you'd think they worshiped them. They yelled at Dreamworks for their logo (boy fishing on moon, which actually stands for "trolling for ideas"), yelling at conservationist Steve Irwin for "placing animals under stress", "boycotting the circus" crap, against wearing fur coats, and comparing factory farming to the Holocaust. And most recently, griping at President Obama for killing a fly (with ninja reflexes I might add :D). Apparently, PETA hasn't heard the food chain at all. I LIKE meat. I like burgers, chicken, and steak. I don't like animal abuse, and I prefer my beef grown on a field, but PETA expects people to worship animals. So I ask you this: do you think PETA thinks of animals so highly that they are gods, or do we like meat so much we don't see what they see?As one guy said, people are animals too, and sometimes the only way to get someone to comply is threatening violence or violence. Ever been spanked as a toddler? That's violence, and it makes people comply.We need to eat animals. Not for the human survival, but the weak ecosystem balance. Im trying to get my friends together to go to the barnimum bailey circus this weekend. My one friend said "I refuse to go to circuses because they have a bad reputation with the way they treat animals." But obviously she has no problem with the mistreatment of animals that end up on her dinner plate :| I dont know, i found it kind of hypocritical for her to make such a bold statement about animal treatment when she eats meat, and visits zoos and aquariums regularly.
