Resolved Question: Could I get legal rights over my sisters body as she's pregnant and?

What am i talking about? Getting legal rights to have my sister in a rehab facility during how ever many months are left of her pregnancy so that the baby has a chance in life. So that she doesn't give birth to a baby with FAS or any other illness. And yes, I believe only the father can obtain legal rights over the body of the indivual carrying his child if the mother is abusing herself with drugs and alcohol substances that could potentially harm the fetus. My sister is a druggie and alcoholic and pregnant. She wants to get an abortion as she can't have the baby of a man who beats and rapes her ( but yet she continously goes back to him... that's another story) but she doesn't know how far along she is and she's already popping out quite a bit. Is it possible for me or my parents to get legal rights over her body until the birth of the child? Or is it only the father that has that right? If an abortion is what she wants then go ahead. But she does NOT know how far along she is and is continuing her abuse towards drugs and alcohol on the assumption that an abortion is in her future. But in Canada, I believe if your 13+ wks pregnant you can not get an abortion.Trust me, we've been trying for 7 years to get her away from this pig and get her help. But you can only help somebody who wants it. more

Resolved Question: Should I let this man be apart of the childs life?

Me and my husband seperated after 7 years of marrage due me catching him talking to another woman. During the time we were seperated, I began a relationship with another guy. After about 4 months me and my husband decided to get back back together not only for us but our 2 young children. After my husband being home about 6 weeks, i found out that i was pregnant. I told my husband the truth from the beginning and he knows this baby is not his biologically, but he didnt want me to terminate the pregnancy. So here I am 7 months pregnant and we had an argument and guess what gets thrown in my face? I am wondering if I should tell this man that he is the father because he asked me numeous times and i keep saying no. He is not a bad guy, but he does have a substance abuse problem. What do I do. more

Resolved Question: Am I just over-emotional or is my husband a complete jerk?

I am 35 weeks pregnant and during this whole pregnancy everything has been only about my husband. He is a medical resident and granted, yes, it's stressful. He has had a drinking and substance abuse problem that has been going on for years, but escalated earlier this year and put him in the mental institution for a couple of days. I was always by his side. I have not been working for a couple of months and his constant up and downs have put a lot of stress on me. I now feel very depressed and have nobody to talk to. He barely listens to me when I try to have a conversation with him and is more interested in playing video games than talking to me. He does not understand why I would have mood swings or be in a depressed mood. Today I told him that I have been feeling very depressed and that I am hopeless because I have nobody to talk to (my family is in Italy and my mum has a lot of problems herself so I can't burden and worry her with my feelings). He told me that It's just because I don't have a "real" job and other people have a life and I just sit around at home (being 35 weeks pregnant). Now, i feel like he is a complete insensitive jerk. Am I over reacting or is he really that bad? more

Resolved Question: Do you believe that it is better for a newborn to be with his drug addicted mother because, because she?

gave birth to him? Surely, just the threat of having their newborns taken from them if they continue doing drugs will get them into rehab & recovery? And surely every expectant Mum goes for monthly check-ups...how isn't the problem sorted out then & there? Why can't they just be put into a detox program to save their babies? This is so terribly sad & wrong...babies entering the world addicted...thru' no fault of theirs... London, Aug 17 (ANI): There has been a drastic increase in the number of babies born with drug and alcohol addiction problems in Scotland.According to the Scottish Sun, one in every 264 newborns in Scotland now suffer withdrawal symptoms as a result of junkie mums abusing deadly substances from heroin to cannabis. One in every 98 pregnant mums have admitted that they put their unborn child's life at risk by taking drugs during pregnancy, new figures unearthed by us show. Scots Labour leader Iain Gray called for junkies who shoot up in front of their kids to have their children taken off them."If a child is fending for themselves to survive, and people around them are having sex and taking drugs in front of them, I think that is not an acceptable way for the child to be living," the Sun quoted Gray as saying. "At the heart of the existing system is a presumption that it is better for the children to be with their mother and their birth family. That is wrong," he added. There is 20 per cent risk of babies dying from Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).Although a majority recovered naturally without medication, others are forced to through a painful withdrawal that can last four months.A child suffering from NAS can experience tremors, high-pitched crying, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, sweating, seizures, delayed visual development and wobbly eyes. Nationally 65 per cent of drug-using mums-to-be are taking heroin and methadone, while 29 per cent use cannabis and 11 per cent knock back sedatives such as Diazepam and Temazepam. Most of the babies we treat have been exposed to heroin or methadone and need oral morphine to treat them," said Dr Helen Mactier, a consultant neonatologist who studied drug-dependent pregnant women at The Princess Royal Maternity in Glasgow. "It can take anything from 24 hours to a few days for a baby to detox from heroin and months for babies to detox from methadone," she added.Edit: Bear, then why did they get pregnant & choose to have the baby? They seem to be lost...no one will intentionally harm a life growing inside of you...which is part of you. They need help & if they don't take that help, their babies need the help...away from their helpless Mums. zzzzz more

Resolved Question: Why are republicans getting mad at Obama for signing the smoking bill? Does it make you no longer pro-life?

Tobacco use is the nation's number one cause of preventable death in the U.S. The facts are clear. Over 40,000 careful studies have proven that smoking causes disease and death. Every medical and health agency agrees. Each year, more Americans die from smoking-related diseases than from AIDS, drug abuse, car accidents and murder combined. Take a look at the facts about cigarette smoking and your lungs. Cigarette Smoking -- The Facts An estimated 430,000 Americans die each year from the effects of cigarette smoking. * Smoking causes 20% (or 1 in 5) of all deaths in the United States each year. * Cigarette smoking is the major cause of: o emphysema o lung cancer o chronic bronchitis o heart disease and stroke * In 1988, the U.S. Surgeon General reported that nicotine is just as addictive as heroin and cocaine. A "hit" of nicotine reaches the brain in seven seconds, twice as fast as heroin injected into the vein. * In the U.S., about 1.3 million people quit smoking each year, but about 48 million continue to smoke. * It is estimated that 8,200 (19.8%) of the deaths in Washington state in 1997 were attributable to smoking. * The 1998 Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) reported that 21.4% of adults in Washington State currently smoke. Tobacco Costs -- The Facts * Cigarettes are the most heavily advertised products in the U.S. * Tobacco companies spend over 4 billion dollars each year on advertising and promotion of their deadly products. * Smoking costs the nation over $100 billion per year in health care costs and lost productivity -- that's about $398 per American each year. * In Washington state $1.3 billion is spent each year on health care costs associated with caring for people with tobacco related illnesses. Women and Smoking -- The Facts * Lung cancer has now surpassed breast cancer as the leading cause of cancer deaths among women. * Current female smokers aged 35 and older are more than 10 times as likely to die from emphysema or chronic bronchitis than nonsmoking females. * Americans are starting to smoke at a younger age, especially young girls. * Pregnant smokers have higher rates of miscarriage, stillbirths and babies who are born too soon. More of their babies die soon after birth from crib death than newborns of nonsmoking mothers. * In 1997, nearly 11,000 Washington babies were born to mothers who smoked during pregnancy. * As more women start to smoke, their death rates from smoking-related lung diseases are fast approaching male smoking rates. Men and Smoking -- The Facts * Cigarette smoking is the #1 cause of cancer death in men. * Current male smokers over age 35 are almost 10 times more likely to die of lung disease and 22 times more likely to die from lung cancer than nonsmoking males. LINK http://www.alaw.org/tobacco_control/quit_smoking_today/quit_kit/facts_about_cigarette_smoking.html Why are republicans advocating the right of a business to intentionally sell a poisonous substance to people in order to turn a profit? Resolved Question: Did the Hippies do more damage to society than good?

Okay the hippies were about peace and love. 30 Years later- there is still war also 30 years later- there is a drug epidemic, teen pregnancy, children out of wedlock, and sex before marriage seems to be the norm. It is the norm to have friends with several half siblings. It seems the lasting impact of that movement was a loosening of public morals, and substance abuse. Resolved Question: What are your reactions and how do feel about divorce?

Many of today’s marriages seem to disengage, even though the U.S. society actively continues to support marriage. The divorce rate in the U.S. during this century has fluctuated dramatically with changing conditions in society. The United States has one of the topmost marriage rates in the world. In the U.S. society, the divorce rate today has risen significantly and is ten times higher than a century ago. At least four in ten current marriages will terminate in divorce. Societal factors influencing the divorce rate include: individualism is on the rise, romantic love often subsides, women are now less dependent on men, many of today's marriages are stressful, divorce is more socially acceptable, and legally a divorce is easier to get. People at greater risk of divorce include: young spouses, women in stressful careers, couples who marry because of an unexpected pregnancy, marrying after a brief courtship, couples substance-abuse problems such as alcohol, geographically mobile couples more
