Dachshund Adoption Questions asked
Resolved Question: Pregnancy and adoption and boyfriend being a jerk.?
Am i really a horrible person? Okay im sixteen about to be seventeen. The father who is also my boyfriend is nineteen. When i was six months pregnant we decided on adoption being the best decision. Im thirty seven weeks pregnant now and to be honest this entire pregnancy ive felt lonely. My boyfriend would much rather be out with friends than sitting at home with me. I would go with him but i just cant even keep up with everyone half the time nor can i really take part in most activities like walking the stupid mall for hours or going to parties. So instead i stay home and get pretty lonely. And on top of that last week i started home study where a tutor comes to my house and teaches me. Well since my birthday is right around the corner i got the idea to get a puppy. I picked the breed i liked most and thats a dachshund or aka weenie dog. My parents agreed it might help with the loneliness and the need to fill my spare time. And to even help with the saying goodbye to my baby process. I went and got my puppy saturday. Im constantly taking care of her and teaching her. Im happy and i do feel a lot better. But my boyfriend thinks i got her to replace my baby. And that i didnt care about my baby at all. But i do! Nothing is ever going to replace my baby but cant i atleast find something to help me? Something to give my love to? Something to keep me company? Hes making me feel like crap... Am i a horrible person... moreResolved Question: DS: Which dog would you rather keep? Adoption?

I've had 3 dogs in my life, a parrot, two hamsters and a two fish. I'm 14 years old. None of them are with me now, not because they died (well, the fish and one hamster did...) but because we move constantly (every 2-3 years) and we ALWAYS end up giving them away, despite my pleas to keep them. And it's not just moving to a neighboring state, but I mean moving to different CONTINENTS (so far, lived in Canada, South America, Asia, and Europe). It is not fair to my pets and also to me that we just "throw them away" because it's too much of a bother to pay for the airplane transfer bills for my dogs. I read a couple of other answers to this question, and most of them said, "show them you are responsible". I have always done my homework, (4 A+s, 3 As, and an A- ^^ I'm not trying to show off...:D), I got into the honor band, (we will fly to Germany this March to perform) and I have been on the high honor roll for 5 consecutive years. I do my chores, I respect my parents and I have never, ever done anything bad or illegal (like smoking or drugs). I never lied to them, and I put my family and education first. When my pet poodle (that I had when I was 7) had to get stitches because two German Sheperds attacked her, I was the one who sat with her until she fell asleep, and I was the one who literally spent two hours cutting up the kibble into small pieces so she could eat them (her jaw had to get stitches too...) . My dachshund, Rocky (I adopted it when I was 11); I always fed him, bathed him and gave him tons of love. But then my parents gave him away because he was "too loud" and because he ripped up one of the pillows. After only 4 months keeping him! So about 6 months ago, we moved again (to spain!). Spain is very pet-friendly and we see dogs and cats everywhere. And it's not like I just want one because kittens are cute and cuddly. I am willing to commit to it as it was my own little sister/brother, and pay for all the vet bills (have saved up 400 euros so far). I've searched adoption websites in Madrid, pet breeders and animal shelters. I've called them and searched where they are, and even before that I did all the research about cats. I asked my mom a few days ago, (not begging, but a serious talk). She straight out said no. She didn't even want to hear anything I said. I just don't get it! She is usually a very happy and accepting person, but she keeps saying no to a cat. She loves cats in general but thinks that there's no point in getting one if we'll move in 3 years. But see here, I'm the one who's crying and pleading my parents to PLEASE take my pet to whichever new country we'll be going to, and THEY are the ones who say no, even when I'm willing to pay for the airplane fee for pets. Please help me, I have tried so hard and my parents just won't listen. Thank you so much..... x moreResolved Question: I don't own a pit bull but...?
Please... Help get justice for Rocky. Please explain to me why people are so prejudiced against this breed? I'm a pro dog groomer and have been bitten by many many dogs. Golden Retrievers are a big culprit, collies too, as well as shih tzus, dachshunds, chihuahuas, and sheep dogs... But never ever ever has a pit bull type breed even growled at me! Ever. Paws for Life rescued Rocky in May 2009. His owner, who took him in as a puppy, lost his job, then later lost his home to foreclosure. He surrendered Rocky and another dog, as well as two cats, to PFL. Rocky passed his temperament test with flying colors. We were able to easily handle his paws, ears and look at his teeth. He gave up no issues and only wanted to roll over for belly rubs. In foster care, Rocky played with other dogs and spent time with children and people of all ages. Again, no issues with his behavior. Rocky attended numerous adoption events of all kinds. Again, no issues with his behavior. He was a healthy, happy goofball with a loving smile and always-wagging tail. Rocky moved to a new foster care home in Royal Oak as summer ended. He was a daily jogging partner and constant companion in his new foster home. He again had frequent playdates with dogs of family members and friends. A 3-year-old, neutered male mutt, Rocky had ZERO prior incidents with people and other animals. He loves to play with his toys and romp and run through the yard. He was an affectionate, kind-hearted teddy bear. On Sunday, October 25, 2009, Rocky was out jogging with his foster care mom in Royal Oak, Michigan. A dog across the street was walking with his owner and a friend of the owner. The owner let his dog off leash and Rocky slipped his collar. The two dogs ran toward each other, met in the middle and began to sniff one another. The other dog growled and a fight ensued. The friend of the owner stuck his hands into the dog fight and was bit on the finger, but no one knows by which dog. The police were called and Rocky was taken away. Monday morning, Oct. 26, Paws for Life called the Royal Oak police and asked when Rocky would be released. We were told he would be released once they received proof of his rabies vaccine. So we faxed them the rabies certificate. Animal Control Officer Briggs then drove to our foster volunteer’s home without reason to do so. She coerced the volunteer into signing over Rocky, knowing full well from the 8 conversations we had that morning that he was the property of the rescue and the volunteer had no authority to sign anything. And she never would have had she not been threatened with fines, tickets and arrest while officers were standing in her living room. Upon leaving the home, Officer Briggs immediately had Rocky euthanized, even though she did not have the legal right or authority to do so. We are asking for your support of Rocky and dogs like him. He was given no chance for justice. He was the victim of breed discrimination and hatred. Any other dog breed involved and both owners would have been ticketed and that’s it. Other animal control agencies, rescues and shelters are outraged at how this case and Rocky himself were handled. Again, Rocky had NO prior incidents. He never attacked or bit anyone or anything. He came from a home with other dogs and cats. He frequently played with other dogs. He attended adoption events without problems. He was a big goofy teddy bear with a silly heartwarming smile and always-wagging tail. He loved children and he loved every person he met. He didn’t deserve this. Please spread the word, share Rocky’s story with everyone you can anyway you can. Call and write letters to Royal Oak and Berkley officials too. They have jurisdiction of Officer Briggs and the incident, which was not handled according to the law. This is a gross abuse of power by Officer Briggs who ignored a STOP order from our attorney, who acted according to her own personal, prejudiced beliefs and outside the law. Regardless of the incident and which dog was at fault, Rocky was given no time to have the situation examined. There was no opportunity for anything. He never had a chance. Other officers and officials have expressed their outrage and shock by the rushed and hurried nature of what they did. Officer Briggs lied to us and deceived us, repeatedly. http://justiceforrocky.com/I am not affiliated with this rescue in any way. I just live near the city in which this happened and I am upset. I am worried this sets a bad example of how to deal with large and powerful breeds, and things like this. moreVoting Question: what kind of dog is this?
can anyone tell me what kind of dog this is? http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14833665 i know it says a dachshund but i contacted the adoption lady and she said it was just a guess. people have told me it's a dachshund, boston terrier, fox terrier, rat terrier... what do you think? moreResolved Question: is 780US$ a good price for a miniature long haired dachshund ?

I feel terrible...?
We adopted a four year-old beagle/dachshund mix from a beagle rescue and we love her to death. She was perfectly fine in the house when we got her, but 5 days after the adoption she just started dribbling urine whenever she was comfortable or her hind leg was elevated. We took her to the vet and apparently she has struvite stones and a UTI. We feel terrible because we have to crate her for the majority of the day. My wife doesn't work during the summer, so between the two of us we take our pup out for a few hours a day. We have puppy training pads in the crate and urine spots are showing up over time. She's getting restless and we feel terrible! We're ignoring the whining and the jumping completely, but it's so hard having just adopted her. Should we be afraid that the beagle will start resenting us? Can it take several weeks for her to fully recover? These stones are terrible...she just can't control herself and she even tries to lick herself clean while she's dribbling because she knows it's bad (we think). Can anyone offer suggestions to make our lives and, most importantly, our dog's life a little easier? We're thinking about getting doggy diapers, but they're super expensive and we've already shelled out $400 in vet bills + $250 adoption fee in a matter of 7 days! I almost wonder if she had the UTI/stones before we got her! moreResolved Question: Are Shih Tzus good dogs to have?
I saw a Shih Tzu on the humane society website thats up for adoption. Its a boy and he is 2 years old. I have a parrot at home and a Dachshund. Thanks to everyone who answered!!! moreVoting Question: How do I get my Dachshund/Min. Pin puppy to accept our Golden Retriever & other big dogs?
Me and my wife picked up this adorable Dachshund/Miniature Pincher 8 month old puppy "Tony" last night. At the adoption center Tony was very nice to the other dogs and submissive. Tony is really a cool dog in all respects except his Loud pitched yelp whenever it sees another big dog. Our roommates also have a Golden Retriever Puppy "Louise" who is very sweet and gets along well with other dogs. As soon as we introduced Tony to Louise, Tony started biting and yelping as if he was being tortured. I could hear the neighbors talking about it. How can I introduce these dogs, and get Tony to not be afraid of other big dogs. moreResolved Question: Is this a hypo-allergenic dog?

Im from a chicago illinois suburb and is looking for a red female dachshund puppy to buy or adopt. I am looking for a certified breeder or adoption agency. I do not support pet stores except my local pet shop which only accepts puppies from breeders that they have personally inspected. I am a very devoted animal lover and would love to save a dog before I buy a brand new puppy. But dachshunds seem to be very hard to find dogs. Now that the weather is warming up and my semester is nearing the end I am at the perfect place to train and bond with a new dog. Any advce on where to go or what to do??? Help! moreVoting Question: Does anybody have a dachshund up for adoption or know where I can get one from a breeder in CT or NY?
I either want a miniature dachshund that i can adopt or one from a breeder that is cheap. I'm trying to convince my parents to let me get one! moreResolved Question: How can I convince my parents to let me buy a dog?
So, I want a toy dachshund, and my parents have already said they'd want a new dog soon, but their soon is different from my soon. My soon is in a month or so, when their soon is probably August. What can I do or say to convince them that I want a puppy? Also, do you know of any online adoption centers where you can find healthy puppies? Thanks!I may be sounding a little impatient, but that's because I am. I really want a puppy soon, mostly because I've wanted a new one for over a year. And sorry if dachshunds don't come in toy sizes. I saw that on a website so I thought they did. moreResolved Question: What is a bunch of small breed dog rescues in Southern Ontario, Canada?

Does anyone have a greyhound that they can share some information with me? Please no links that took no more effort than Googling greyhound, thanks! 1. I have applied through GPA to adopt. How long should my process be to "get the dog"? 2. What will disqualify me and what will qualify me? I have a small terrier and some outside cats (2). I also have a 2 year old child that loves all animals. The cats are VERY dog friendly. 3. I prefer low key, lazy type dogs. And henceforth Greyhound's tend to match my desires in a large breed dog. Should I expect a hyper, spastic dog like my terrier? Certainly they will not always be a "40 MPH couch potato". 4. How do they do with stairs? I have a large, two story home with a large yard.We are trying to get some "areas" fixed with our wood fence. We recently had a hurricane that let the fence have it. Our neighbors behind us claim its their fence and say that we aren't to touch it. Its ours, but hey... let them pay for it! 5. We have the invisible fence (one of the co's other brands" pet containment system. Will we get disqualified for this? Our terrier is trained well now and hardly ever has to wear the receiver collar anymore. The "box" is on the wall in the garage. Will the adoption case workers look in my garage and see it? 6. The adoption case workers, as I call them are supposed to come to the potential pet parent's home to do a home study. Where will they look, what will they be concerned of, what will they care about? I had to take my SPCA dachshund to back to the SPCA last year due to his escaping from the fence. I followed protocol "Spca requires him back to them if I have to get rid of him". He had been in our family for 5 years. moreResolved Question: Purchasing vs Rescuing?
I am a member of a "discussion club" that meets once a month to talk about different subjects, we each take a turn choosing a subject and discuss that subject at the next meeting, after people have had time to reach informed opinions. "Tracy" is looking into getting a pomeranian. She has been looking at rescues and breeders. The rescues require vet references, fenced yard, etc. This would be her first pet, and she lives in an apartment so has neither of those. Her statement was that she can get a puppy of the same quality from a breeder as she would get from a rescue at the same price. Her topic for next meeting was "do you think rescues inadvertantly encourage the BYBs to produce more dogs through stringent regulation and high adoption fees? What are your views on this? ADD: I support rescue, but I also breed dachshunds. I have never thought about this particular topic. Intelligent points of view appreciated, I know all about spay, adopt, etc. The question is not where should she get a puppy, but whether rescues inadvertently and unintentionally encourage people to buy from a classified ad with prices at or near adoption fees.AUSSIE: I agree. She has been looking in classified ads, not through a breed club. She stated why pay for a show dog when all I want is a pet? I do not agree with that mentality, but it will not be me obtaining the dog.RESCUE MEMBER: You are preaching to the choir. I do provide rescue to my breed. I am fortunate that I have never had to take back a puppy of my breeding, but have taken in quite a few others over the years. I agree she is uninformed about BYBs and rescues. Fortunately, she does not plan to obtain a dog until spring, and I am hoping to educate her a bit more about dog breeders and quality vs quantity.RESCUE MEMBER: You are preaching to the choir. Right now my family has two Australian Shepherds, they're beautiful and we love them. =) But I'll be leaving for college soon enough, and I'm going to want my own dog. Problem is, I don't know what breed I'd like to get... I really do like small dogs, the other day I met a lady with two dachshunds and they were of the piebald coloration and were freakin adorable... but I don't know if a small dog would suit my lifestyle. I walk at LEAST two miles everyday and I'd want a dog that would be able to keep up with me without getting tired halfway there... Sooooooooooo any suggestions? I'm going to thoroughly research each breed I consider before making any decisions. =) I'm also going to really think about adoption too, but I'd just like some suggestions to start with. Thanks!! =)Oh, I also don't think I'd want a huge dog either, cause I want something that'll be able to cuddle on the couch with me when I'm feeling lazy. :D moreResolved Question: What do you think this dog is mixed with?
http://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/adoptions/gonzo.html I'm thinking he's part mini longhaired dachshund, but i dont know what else :Syeah he's adorable :) i don't think he's a terrier, so many dogs at shelters around here are labeled 'terrier' when they clearly aren't. moreResolved Question: Convincing my mom I am planning for a dog and don't want Instant Gratification of having one ASAP?
For my birthday in a month and a half, I have been looking into getting a puppy dachshund. My family doesn't necessarily support this idea, but I have been doing my research and have been preparing for the possibility of a "Yes". My mom is well aware that I want a puppy, and I have talked to her about it alot, but I don't think we see eye to eye. I looked up breeders in our area, and found a place that will be able to sell puppies to us right before my birthday. When I showed my mom it, she started yelling to me about how I wanted instant gratification and I had to have everything now, but I know that I can't get anything now because the puppies arn't old enough to be adopted out and that I just wanted to be prepared. She said more puppies will be born and we can look into it later, but I want one for my birthday, and if that was going to happen, the puppies would have to be born two weeks ago if they were to be the proper age for adoption. How can I convince my mom that I don't want instant gratification, I just want to be able to get a dog for my birthday and not a few weeks after it?Also, my father wants nothing to do with a dog. He is completely against it, but if my mother is fine with it, he will go along with it. moreResolved Question: is this LEGIT, please help?

My Fiance is looking to adopt a dog after the Holidays towards the end of January. While I won't be with him in the dog for about a year full time, I am being included in the picking and adoption process. I was wondering if any of the experienced adopters have any tips for adding another dog into the mix. Here is what we have: He has 2 Cats and a dog. The dog he has is around a year old, house broken, and is a Medium Boxer/sight hound mix. She is SUPER people, cat, kid, and dog friendly and is higher energy (which may drop slightly after her spaying) He is able to give 2 long walks a day, or a free run in a securely fenced field. I also have a Dachshund, who travels with me and a cat who keeps to herself. We are looking for a Medium to extra large mix (or purebred), and would like something shaggy (though we won't choose a dog based just on that), we also what a dog that is between 1 and 3 years old. Any suggestions on what we should look for when we start our search, and what breeds you feel fit us well. He/we both also travel a fair amount, and love to camp and spend time outdoors. Any help would be great!I would LOVE a Shepherd or Shepherd Mix as well, but unfortunately that would create a problem as my mother is TERRIFIED of them due to a horrible childhood experience, and I don't think she would EVER let us bring it home. So that makes me sad. We could get away with a mix of a shepherd that didn't look overly Shepherdy. Which is sad, that because of my mothers fear we have to eliminate a common mix.Good point on being cat tested (Danes and Pits). Our Current Rescue (boxer mix) is not a dominant dog in any way, but your tips were good. We will take those into account. The 3 cats could care less about the dogs, and one will even play with both the boxer and dachsie. They aren't fazed by much. One of them is a rescue that we brought back from late stage Hepatic lipidosis. moreResolved Question: How many of you have been to your local animal shelter?
I went today to look for a lost pet I thought (was hoping) was picked up. I haven't been to one in years. It was the most depressing sight. I went about 7 years ago to get my dog sprung out, and told myself I would never buy another pet and I would only adopt. Every pet I have now are strays. Please adopt your pets. Go visit your local shelter they have a little of everything there. I saw a dachshund, a lab puppy and a chihuahua to name a few. Numerous cats and kittens of every color. I'm so depressed now tho!!!! For those that have been, do you still buy pets or only adopt? And why buy when you can find whatever you want thru adoption? moreResolved Question: How many of you have been to your local animal shelter?

I was trying to talk to the lady that works there and I could feel my throat tightening and tears welling in my eyes. I didn't want to look at the animals so I was trying to look at the ceiling when I was talking. She knew I was about to lose it, so she gave me a kleenex. If you're into showing dogs or sporting dogs I get buying from a breeder. I should've phrased the question for the pet owner that wants a companion. If you think pugs are cute and would like one for a companion and that's it, then you can probably find one at the pound. moreResolved Question: Advice Needed On My Dog?
In May, I found a pit bull mix who was near death. (Her name is Baby) I rescued her from the side of the road and nursed her back to health. My Mom and I put her up for adoption to find a good home once she was well again, and couldn't say goodbye. So, we adopted her for ourselves. We already have a dachshund and a couple cats. But, she torments our cats and our dog, and she gets jealous easily. She also tears a lot of my Mom's things, and still uses the bathroom inside the house. She has bad separation anxiety everytime we leave the house, which is what we think causes it. We are trying to crate train her currently. We love her dearly, but we don't know if we should keep her or put her up for adoption at a no-kill shelter. If we put her up for adoption, we'd be heartbroken to say goodbye, but at the same time, my other pets can't come near me anymore without her interfering. And, I go off to college in 1 1/2 years and don't want my Mom to have to take care of her by herself. I need advice...:[I love her very much and would hate to say goodbye, but it's unfair to my other pets and my Mom. I found one shelter I really like that interviews people and matches a certain dog with them to fit them with the perfect family. moreResolved Question: What should I do about this dog adoption?
I am trying to adopt a 6 month old Dachshund/Beagle Mix that has seizures. I am absolutely in love with this dog and I REALLY want him. Problem is, I've sent three emails to the business that is affiliated with him and I have gotten no response whatsoever. I've checked all the sites that have him on the available list, but it says the last time the page was updated was in September. All their pets stay at foster homes instead of shelters and I have no idea as to who is fostering him. I tried calling a couple days ago and there was no answer. I am so frustrated because they have alot of dogs up for adoption and they won't answer ANY of my emails or calls. It is a good business, it's not some hobo selling dogs out of a box. I am at wits end on what to do. If anyone has any advice on what I should please tell me. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Has anyone ever fostered a dog from the Humane Society?
I have a dachshund, I'd like to have him have a friend and also help a dog in need, I know my local humane society has foster parents for dogs. Couple questions: if they dog has any medical problems while being fostered, does the HS pay for the expenses? I of course expect to pay for dog food and other general care items. Have you ever fostered, and how long was it for, and was it worth it?? How do you get a fostered dog adopted if not at the shelter? (I'm guessing adoption days or if someone sees the dog on the HS website and wants to meet him) moreResolved Question: How do i persuade my parents to let me have another dog?
I have a 2 yr old golden retriever, bitch, she is spayed and is really friendly. I was looking on the internet and i saw a little dachshund x up for adoption from a rescue centre near where my nan lives. He looks perfect for our family and it says that he is friendly and gets on well with kids and other dogs. I would also like it so that my dog would have company when my family goes out during the day and she is left by herself for a couple of hours. However when i have asked for another dog in the past my parents have said no because they are alot of responsibility. When i saw this dog on the internet i fell in love with him and i would do anything to adopt him. How do i persuade my mum to let me have another dog. I want to show her that i am responsible and that i can look after another dog! Please help!!!!I always walk my dog and clean up after her! we barely ever go abroad so kennels wouldnt be a problem! moreResolved Question: Should i get rid of her?
im due any day now and i was wondering what i should do about our inside dog? she is about a 5mth dachshund and she is real hyper sometimes, sometimes she will just be lying on the floor with her toys and the next shes going crazy running in circles and jumping around. me and my husband think its a good idea to probally give her away for adoption although we dont want to but we dont want to put her outside because shes been an inside dog and we dont want to just keep her locked up she is a wonderful loveable dog and we wanted our little man to grow up with a pet. What would you do? moreResolved Question: I want a papshund?
I really want a papshund (papillion/dachshund hybrid). Please tell me if you had a Papshund orr if you know about them. please tell me there grooming, temperement, activity, etc. I will do MY reasearch! PLEASE INCLUNDE A LINK TO PAPSHUNDS AVAILIBLE FOR ADOPTION, SHELTER S ONLY!!!!!! amanda s thanks moreResolved Question: My dog "took" today & I have a few questions?
My dog took today (and my mother has bred dogs before, even though this is my first time) What kind of food should a pregnant dog eat, because I have been doing some research on the internet and it said that certain human food can give it the nutrition it needs better than dog food. And will it take around 63 to 65 days for the dog to give birth? And yes (For some inconsiderate people who answered my previous question) I do want to breed my dog for they are purebred miniature dachshunds and they will make great puppies and I assure you that they will be giving to good homes (I won't put them in an adoption center) and by the way, I'm not crazy, I just want one of the puppies for myself and for other people to enjoy having what the good Lord put on Earth. If there is anything wrong with making people happy, then look me up because I want to hear every detail. :b I would be happy is someone gave me some friendly advice. Thanks and God bless you all. moreResolved Question: can we determine?
this one's mix? he was surrendered to me last week with a pair of akita/lab siblings (the lady was going to breed them together so she'd have "pure-bred hybrids" to sell. I KNOW! sheeesh!). but this little guy i can't figure out. 95 % certain about beagle, and there's alot of JRT's and feists around here. he's about 4 mths old and the little black dachshund x he's playing with is just over 1 yr (about 12 lbs). i know it's always a guess with the mutts, but i want to post them for adoption and it's easier if people have an idea of size (although my husband and the little terrier have become quite attached to Rambo (husband named him), i feel he may be another keeper. http://www.flickr.com/photos/27357944@N08/?saved=1CHRIS T: the big one on the couch is Rocky. he's a ridgeback/mastiff x we rescued 4 yrs ago from a dog fighting ring.STAR: i appreciate the idea, but i'm trying to incorporate a shelter in my area and if i keep them all, i can't help others. there are 11 dogs here right now. they'll only go to homes i approve with a return clause in the adoption contract.he's only been here about a week. too early to determine any habits other than the puppy stuff. about 18 lbs at 4 mths. moreResolved Question: Question about finding animal shelters?
My family and I want to adopt a kitten. We have been all over the place, but each place has such a detailed adoption process, and we have even been turned away because we have been truthful and have said that we have a 3 year old miniature dachshund. Are there ANY PLACES WHERE YOU DO NOT NEED ANY APPLICATION TO ADOPT A CAT?!?! It's getting a bit ridiculous. I live in Bucks County, and I would like to adopt from a shelter. I've looked all over trying to find a shelter that doesn't need so many appointments with each animal before you can even be CONSIDERED for adoption. Please help me out! We would like a kitten! moreResolved Question: When I adopted my Chihuahua/Dachshund mix.....?
she was 2 months old. It was the shelters policy to get all animals spayed/neutered right after adoption. Isn't that a wee bit too young? She's 2 years old now and by far the smartest, funniest dog I've ever met. But, that's very young to get spayed! Right? With my other 2 pups, they came from breed specific rescue groups so I had to sign a neuter agreement so they weren't that young when they were neutered. What are the cons to spaying/neutering so young?Well, it was done about 2 years ago. She's a grown girl now and I swear she's a little genius. So, definitely no mental problems there. I was just thinking that that was very young to do a spaying. It was policy though and I had to save her from that shelter. moreResolved Question: Irresponsible agency gave me a sick dog..what would you do?
I adopted a dog on Thursday from a no kill shelter in Texas. As soon as we left the little guy was hacking away - it corresponded with his walks so at first I thought he was allergic. I took him to my vet today and he has kennel cough and now my dogs do to. My vet told me there's no way a vet could've listened to his lungs and released him all clear for adoption, especially to a home with other dogs. I had to spend another $100 for medication on top of the $160 adoption fee. BTW...the dog is not a puppy dachshund as they stated, he's a full grown chihuahua mix. I want my money back in full or at least the 100 I paid for all three to be treated - if not I'm giving him back. What would you do?The point being: They are supposed to "match" their animals to good homes - how can they do that when they are sick? They lied about the breed, age and condition just to get it a home. Don't be shocked that I want to give it back....that's their bad. And while I'm at it, I'm throwing out all of the papers they gave me, just to inconvenience them as they did me. moreResolved Question: Has anyone adopted through DRNA (Dachshund Rescue of North America)?
My family and I have been looking for a companion for our current dachshund and ourselves for the past 6 months. We came across DRNA and found multiple dachshunds for adoption in North Carolina. We filled out the application about two weeks ago and read the adoption process. It said that they will conduct reference checks and vet checks and then contact us for a home visit. They haven't contacted us yet, but the dog that we sent the application in for now says "Adoption in Progress" as of last week and it didn't say that about 2 weeks before we sent in the application. We don't know if this is us or not but if anyone has adopted a dachsie from DRNA, can you tell us about how long it usually takes for someone to get in contact with us. Thank you moreResolved Question: Should I give my puppy up for adoption? I did not socialize her properly and now things are bad...?
I apologize for this long post... We have five dogs - 2, Cody and Molly, 13yr and 8yr old Malteses, an 8yr old German Shepherd Rotweiller mix, Brady, who has recently gone blind, and a 6 year miniature dachshund, Hamlet, who is very jealous of my attention. About 3 weeks ago I got a new puppy, Zoey. Hamlet was so upset with me that he did not look at me for 2 days. He is not as close to me as before and is stubborn about commands now. The rest of the dogs in the house hate her. Brady is in a constant state of panic, b/c she tries to chew his tail and run circles around him to get him to play. Hamlet stands up for Brady against Zoey. The puppy stays in a kennel in another room, and the other four other dogs stay in the kitchen when we are gone. Tuesday I came home to a bloody kitchen. Brady had cornered Cody and I think tried to give him a warning bite and accidently bit him HARD. I should have brought Zoey in on a leash at all times and slowly, but what can I do now? moreResolved Question: Puppy Compatibility?
Hello, my girlfriend and I are about to adopt 3 puppies. At first we were just going to get 3 of the same breed but now we want to mix things up. We already have the puppies lined up for adoption, I just want to hear a few experienced opinions before we go through with it. The question is, will 3 puppies of different breeds interact well with eachother? One is a Dachshund, one is a English Bulldog and the last one is a Greyhound. I've already heard certain breeds are more aggressive then others, but I also heard it varies from puppy to puppy. moreResolved Question: Can an 8 month old Dachshund puppy be accused of a bite in court hearing?
I am considering adopting an 8 month old male Dachshund but he was acused of biting a neighbors kid. I don't know the details of the acutual incident, but the owner is denying it. The kid's parent called the police and made a report as well as took the kid to the doctor so there is a paper trail here. The puppy is not available for adoption until after a court hearing to determine if he is a biter or not. It just seems to me to acuse a puppy of biting viciously is not right, especially for this breed. I can think of a lot of defense for this poor little puppy whose fate is in the hands of a court. Any input would be greatly appreciated. moreResolved Question: Are ther any Dachshunds avaliable for adoption in Columbus, OH, or someplace near there?
Hello everyone, I'm looking to adopt a Dachshund (Short hair, preferably young) and I'm living in Columbus OH. Does anyone know a rescue center that would have dachshunds? I've been looking all around and I can't find any. If anyone knows where I can get one I'd be very grateful. Thanks again, Go Bucks. moreResolved Question: I want to adopt a dachshund, but I cant fiend a local shelter near Philadelphia?
