Yorkie Terrier Puppies For Adoption Questions asked

Resolved Question: How to tell a puppy is a Yorkshire Terrier or not?

Hi there! I am thinking about purchasing a Yorkie puppy (from an adoption center or breeder of course) and i'm not sure about it being a Yorkie or not. I have done research and I have found out that there are Silky Terriers, which look much like a Yorkshire Terrier. I can tell the difference when they are adults though. What about when they are puppies? How do they differ from each other as puppies, not adults? I just want to make sure I get exactly what kind of breed I asked for. Thanks for all the help =) more

Voting Question: How to stop dogs from fighting?

Alright, a while back a my mom got a boston terrier from a animal rescue. Thing was still a puppy then and was getting along fine with her yorkie mix up until a few months ago. Another one of the dogs went into heat and by now the BT had matured. That was when the fighting started, the kind of fighting that if no one was home we would have one less dog. We have done everything from separating them to neutering them to no real effect. just hours ago they fought and there was enough blood on the walls and door to ruin two towels. The BTs leg somehow got broken in this recent mess and now we are basically out of options besides giving one of two up for adoption. Personally I never really cared for either of them but my mom cried for hours just over the thought of losing one of them but at the rate this is going I think one is about to make a good pet for someone else or good fertilizer. I would rather not have to force my mom to choose one or make her lose both so if you guys and gals know anything that might help I would appreciate it. And yes the female dog has been spaded for some time now. Long version made short. two small dogs, killing each other, blood everywhere, anything that might help em stop? more

Resolved Question: "Corkie" puppies for adoption?

So we were browsing Craigslist as we have been seeking a puppy and we came across a woman adopting out "Corkie" puppies for $100.00 each. They are hald Cairn Terrier and Half Yorkie. She said the litter was an accident and that is why they are not being sold for some huge price...they are 6 weeks old and weigh just under 1lb. I looked online and I guess this has been made into some "desiger mutt" but what I am wondering is if anyone knows anything about them and their personality. We are going to see them at 9:00 tomorrow AM and I want to research as much as I can. I have looked up each breed individually but was curious how they usually combine. Thanks...Thank you for your responses. I appreciate everyone's opinion...in my area shelters and "rescue groups" are adopting dogs out for anywhere from $79.00-$179.00 dollars so $100 for a puppy is not a huge amount. The puppy has had first shots, been vet checked and had 2 wormings. We are aware they are too young, but she is selling them and we can at least give one a good home. She is a piece of crap, but that is not the puppies fault. That is one criticism I have for the responses...why should these puppies suffer and not go to loving families who will take care of them because they were bred by a BYB? Do you believe if they didn't go to new homes they would have better lives with her, in a kennel breeding program no dount, than shelter dogs have? Regardless....we will go see the pups as it isn't their fault this woman is irresponsible and they don't deserve to suffer because she has no moral base... Thanks again... more

Looking forward to your prompt e-mail again. Thanks. I replied asking about the female bulldog or yorkie and how much he was asking for. he replied: Hello, Thanks for your interest,I only have one left and is female puppy available for adoption,Name Lacy is still very much available adoption. she is 14 weeks old,This puppy health is %100 OK!, 1st shots, AKC registered,Baby is so animated and will keep you entertained for hours. She really had her own distinct personality.Loving and very affectionate personalities are standard with other animals. She is very affectionate and like to give kisses all the time. This Female pup presently weighs about 3.1 lb .live here in Kansas city, Kansas (USA) with the baby .Am going to ship to you via express delivery on same day delivery, so if you are interested in having the puppy, i want you to get back to me with your full name, address, phone number including the nearest airport to you. Please if you know that you are not going to take very good care of my baby, do not reply me because i am not giving because of bad condition or anything i am only giving this puppy out because we don't have time to take care of the puppy again due to my work here. She is priceless therefore she will be going for free, so i will like you to get back to me with your full name and full address including your nearest airport so that we proceed with the adoption process and also find out shipping cost,I want you to know that you are paying for the shipping cost. Best Regards. Thanks I then asked him to help ease my doubt that this may be a scam or that the puppy wasnt healthy or registered because he was giving her away for free.... He replied: Thank you for the mail back and your sincerity, really known how you are feeling about this whole thing, and thats very wrong, if you are thinking that I just wanted to take your money for nothing. When I known how people worked and earn their money, I will never think of taking some advantages over you and your money, please take that out of your mind, that is really awful thing on the earth that I will never think about doing. Please understand me better, I was not trying to lure you into this, everything about me and my puppy are 100% real ok, i will like you to know one thing i have the fear of God and i such much believe in his words and i wouldn't do such a thing when i have blood running through my vain. And i want you to be more believe that this transaction for real and good proof Thanks. I am a very trusting person and beleive he is just wanting the puppy to go to a good home. What do you think? Is this a bad idea? What should I ask him? what can I do to ensure the puppy is ok? more

Resolved Question: TEACUP DOG HELP PLEASE!!?

I want to adopt either a Teacup Yorkie or a Teacup Chihuahua. I am looking for one that I can get for free, adopt somewhere. I want to get your opinion on which dog would be better! I want it to be at or less than 5 lbs., FULL GROWN. Are long or short hair Chihuahuas better? I know how Chihuahua's can grow up and have coarse-looking (and sometimes feeling) fur & can be 'stocky' adults like these: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7388762@N03/2343576973/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/daviderwin/13409323/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/8878081@N03/544587325/ http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/images14/PomchiChihuahuaPomeranianFoxy1yearOld.jpg And Yorkies have that "grayish" hair, which is actually called "blue": http://www.flickr.com/photos/48507514@N00/3053888401/ http://www.poodle-oo.com/images/articles/art-yorkshire-terrier.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/kgboxer/1866345701/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/kgboxer/1866335487/in/photostream/ Soooo PLEASE HELP!! And if you know any breeders, adoption centers, animal clinics, etc. around ABERDEEN, ASHEBORO, CARTHAGE, ROBBINS & BISCOE, NORTH CAROLINA that have teacup Chihuahua puppies or teacup Yorkie puppies FOR FREE, please please please tell me! I don't order dogs over the internet, so don't give me websites to go to. Please help me & thanks if you do help me! And thanks for reading all this too!!!!! more

Resolved Question: I live in South Korea (Osan Air Base) and want to add a Yorkshire Terrier (or mix) to my family.?

I absolutely will not support a puppy mill, but I'm not sure how to find reputable breeders in the area. If anyone knows of any breeders or dogs for sale/adoption, please let me know. I am open to a Yorkie mix as well. The most important thing for me is that my future dog be healthy, have a good temperament, and be a good companion. I need a dog that is small because of my lifestyle. That being said, I need the dog to be HEALTHY, not "teacup" size. Any advice you can give me would be much appreciated.  more

Resolved Question: Why are the "adoption fees" for small dogs so high?

Would someone please explain why the "adoption fee" for Yorkshire terriers are so high? There are some local rescues who have fees that are 175 to 700 dollars! I support and am willing to pay a reasonable adoption fee but 700$? I could buy a purebred whatever puppy for that I'm sure. Heck in this market you could buy a decent HORSE for that much. I'd love to adopt a yorkie or other small dog one day, but it may end up being cheaper to go to a breeder. Yikes. I never though t I would say or think that. This place is a 501c. I understand wanting to recoup costs of upkeep and whatnot, I'm just saying that you could find a Yorkie for much less than 700$ or even 4 to 500 around here or through an owner surrender. But hey if people are willing to pay that more power to them.EDIT: My point was while costs are high and shelters need cash, those kinds of prices (and I wasn't just looking at purebred yorkies) seem prohibitive. Sure you should pay SOMETHING to adopt. I understand that but the max I would consider to adopt a dog is 100 to 150 dollars. Why? Because for 400$ or whatever you can find a decent breeder who knows the parents, knows the pups histories and there are few surprises. That is NOT what I prefer, I'm just saying it is a reality. I guess my frustration is paying such a high price for the "privlege" to adopt. I think it is dangerous to make pet rescue "trendy" b/c ppl will take it less seriously. But that is another issue. I think I will avoid the local rescues and look for owner assists. I had the opportunity to adopt a beautiful yorkie 5 years ago, actually she had no adoption fee, but I couldn't provide for her at the time.I just wanted to add that I was look at OLD yorkies and mixes too, not young pups. Thanks everybody for your input! I appreciate it! more

Resolved Question: I am looking to adopt a puppy in Maryland?

Resolved Question: Can anyone please give me advice about taking care of a Yorkie?

I'm looking to adopt/rescue a Yorkshire Terrier. It would be my first time owning a pet independently. I just had a few questions regaurding their care :I'd like to know what amount of time is safe to leave a Yorkshire Terrier by itself, the average cost of rescue/adoption, and the average monthly cost of owning such a pet. Between my roommate and I the puppy would be alone approximately 2.5-3 hours a day. I'd also like to know the approximately how many grooming trips a month I would need to take the dog to if I kept his/her hair relatively short. I was speaking to my mother about caring for a dog and she was concerned because I live in a flat instead of a house, do you believe that this would cause a problem? I'd just like to be 100% that this is an educated dissicion and one that is in the best interest of the dog. Thank you so much in advance. more
