Open Question: Wizards of Waverly Place birthday cake ideas?

I need to make a WOWP birthday cake for my daughter's upcoming birthday party. I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas of what to do? I've seen the wizard hat cakes but can't really figure out how to go about making one. I mean I know how to decorate it but I don't know how to get it in that kind of shape. Does anyone have any other ideas? All I can come up with is like moons and stars, or maybe paisley because they use that pretty often on WOWP stuff. Anyone have any good ideas? Oh cupcake ideas would work too. more

Resolved Question: Any ideas on how to celebrate birthday when u have boy and girl that birthday is a week apart?

I have a 7 year old that's birthday is march 7th and have a 3 year old which birthday is March 14th. my boy is a fan of Batman and my daughter is a fan of anything girly. Well we know how the economy is so hard right now we are going to have one party for both but my husband and i decided to split the invitations. 25 invitations will go for my son and 25 will go for her. Now I'm debating on the decoration part. i already have everything i need for batman. Is it okay or should i decorate some stuff for her too. She said she doesn't mind she only wants a separate cake and doesn't care about the decoration. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you more

Resolved Question: Orange creamsicle birthday cake?

My daughter loves the orangey-vanilla flavor of creamsicles, so we want to make her birthday cake with those flavors. Have you successfully (or not) made a cake like this? I was thinking white cake (colored orange) with orange filling and frosting? Ideas? The theme of the party is not Creamsicles, so I'm not decorating the cake with them or anything. more

Resolved Question: 14th B-day, party game ideas... anyone? Please?

So my 14th birthday is around the corner and I have very little idea what I’m going to do, no games come to mind! I desperately need games!! My house is small, but the downstairs is fairly open. We’re not allowed upstairs during parties because it’s small and my brothers’ rooms are too close to my own for courtesy. The only other circumstance is to try to avoid my grump-munster bros (and my dad -but the whole time he‘ll probably be building something or sleeping for his work (nightshift, luckily). (around five to seven 13/14 year old girls running around, maybe my friend Matt, (but Matt’s gay [literally, not jerkish insult] so it’s not going to waver anything, he’ll be going home before the sleepover itself, assuming he attends) So far, I know this will be going on: 1. ---It’s a slumber party, we’ll crash all over the T.V/living room. 2. ------During the day we’ll have the first two Twilight Saga films playing for a few hours, but afterwards we’re going to have a continuous marathon of lame horror vampire movies. (captions, no sound, it’s mostly for people not enjoying the particular game) 3.-----We’re probably going to do makeovers. 4.--- Only healthy snacks, and that’s already planned as far as my mom says. No candy (I’m getting braces in march). No cake, but awesome decorated cupcakes (in case that sparks inspiration) 5----I know I’ll have a ton of music, letting the guests send me individual playlists so everyone gets what they like. 6---- I’m a June baby, so we might be going outside, but it’s not likely because it’s usually buggy and hot. No pool, no trampoline, only a small wooden play-gym and open space for about 12 feet by 10 feet. No pool party, and no lual because my mom doesn’t want to spend too much money. 7---- I live in inland CT, so a three hour drive to the beach is out of the question :’( But other than those ideas, I have to find a way to fill 48 hours with very entertaining activities that girls (and a feminine guy for about a quarter of that time) can play and be entertained by. more

Voting Question: Justin Bieber themed cake?

My daughter is going to see justin bieber in concert for her birthday, and afterwards her friends are coming back to my house for pizza and cake. I enjoy decorating cakes, and I am comfortable working with royal icing, buttercream icing, chocolate, modeling chocolate, gumpaste, and fondant. Any ideas on what cake I should make, that is Justin Bieber themed? Or even just concert themed... like maybe a ticket or something? (PLEASE be appropriate. I dont necessarily love him nor hate him and I dont want anything dirty or nasty okay? Thank you!) more

Resolved Question: What would be a cute/clever way to reveal a surprise to my boyfriend on Valentine's Day?

I have secretly purchased tickets to see my boyfriend's favorite band in concert. The show takes place on his birthday so I decided a reveal on Valentine's Day would be a good idea. Any clever ideas as to how I might be able to reveal this to him with a sort of Valentine's Day theme? I was initially thinking of baking a small cake and decorating it with the album art on top, but I'm not sure I like that idea. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: I decided that I am going to have a Party :D?

I have made 4 friends at my new school. I know my birthday isn't until May but I want to pick what I should do for my birthday. Most of the children (friends included) come from low income family's can't afford a shopping party or can give me a gift BUT I am ok with that :D My friends are girls of all different ages. One is in 8th maybe 9th grade. 2 of them are in 6th. 2 others are in 10th grade. They are all my friends and we all get along well together. Their will be me and them at my party. Which makes 6 of us girls. I live in south Florida and I have a few options in my home town and towns around. Some of my options are Spa Day - at WoodHouse Day Spa ~ it is very near our school and my mom could pick us up from school and take us there (because most of the girls don't have rides) Beach Party - I'm not the most appealing thing in a bathing suite and the other girls are. But also what would we do at the beach? There is a place to eat cake but that would be GRRROOSSSS and why would we go to the beach after school on a Friday that is something you do on the weekend here. Ceramics - but the thing about ceramics is that we have to pay for everything ~ the ceramic thing the cake the pizza or food AND then what do I do after ward ? Have a sleepover at a hotel ? my house can't hold all of us Hotel Party - have all the girls bring clothes and a bathing suite and robe and slippers and have an amazing slumber party with junk food and a room decorated with favors. the last thing I could even think of is taking the girls to an amusement park like disney or epcot? Spend the weekend at a hotel like nickoloden resort or laki tiki? I just don't know what to do or where we should go ? If we spend 2 days in a resort we could get room service and go get our nails done but like I said thats all on me and my family (the money) So please help me I want to make invitations and order personalized party favors and have my cake designed special but everything is so much money Please HELP ME find a good median between all my ideas and problems more

Resolved Question: What colors should I make a hello kitty cake?

I want to make my friend a hello kitty cake for her birthday but i'm still trying to get ideas on decorating it. I have a hello kitty candle that I want to use. I also have some fake balloon decorations that I had laying around in my kitchen that happened to be the same colors as the hello kitty candle. I want it to be a girly cake and was thinking of frosting it white (just whipped cream) and then decorating the borders pink but i'm not sure if there's enough pink in the candle and ballons where it will go. Do you think pink would be a good color? If not, what should I use? The candle: http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j289/jewpandabear/IMG_2627.jpg The balloons: http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j289/jewpandabear/IMG_2628.jpg I was thinking of putting confetti and curled ribbons around the cake and writing happy birthday in glittery yellow. I like this idea of the hello kitty faces around the sides of the cake but i'm not sure if it would be too much going on with what my plan is. What do you think? http://www.amazon.com/Hello-Kitty-Toppers-Party-Supplies/dp/B001P2SC16/ref=pd_sim_misc_3This is the yellow sparkly icing I have for the writing.http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j289/jewpandabear/IMG_2459.jpg oops, forgot to put the link more

Resolved Question: Hash Brown Birthday Cake?

My little cousin is turning 14 in March. This year she doesn't want a traditional birthday cake, she wants a hash brown cake and I volunteered to make it. My plan is to bake it in a cake pan so its like a sheet of hash browns, and I'm going to write Happy Birthday in ketchup. I was wondering if anyone had some ideas to add to this to make it a little more fun. Serving or decorating suggestions or if there are better ideas to make it. more

Resolved Question: 80's themed 16th birthday, any ideas?

So since I missed the 80s by about 5 years, I thought it would be super fun to do an 80s theme for my 16th birthday. My party will be on february 19th. (Which is my actual birthday) I'm inviting about 6 people in additon to my family which is huge like 20 people! My older brother has a large basement with a pool table and a bar. He said I could use it for my party. I have some ideas as to what im gonna do. For decorations I wanted to get some posters of some 80's musical icons like Michael Jackson, Madonna etc.. Also an 80s party sign I will probably make myself lol I want the attire to be full blown 80's I'm thinking of doing a sideways ponytail and not sure what for clothes. I was thinking for a cake I would do a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and decorated like this one http://acreativecake.com/uploads/80_s_Th… For party favors I was thinking of tying party bags with a scrunchy (Scrunchies were popular in the 80s right? I remember wearing them in the 90s) and having stuff inside like razzles, pop rocks and such. As for food I was thinking Pizza and some other snack stuff. And of course 80s music. So I need Food, Game, Clothing, music, and some other decoration ideas. So any 80s kids willing to help me out? :) Thanks for your help! The link for the cake http://acreativecake.com/uploads/80_s_Theme.jpg more

Resolved Question: Tea party themed birthday for a 5 year old?

WooHoo, my baby is turning 5...actually it makes me tear up, but anyway! So we were thinking of doing a tea party. We are going to rent out an indoor area at a local park (because her birthday is the end of March and weather around here is rather unpredictable). I just need a few ideas... 1. food 2. games I was thinking finger sandwiches (pb&j and something else for allergy reasons) I need an allergy friendly idea! Juice (tea) and ice cream sandwiches instead of cake. We are going to do a book exchange instead of presents. I was thinking they could make bead necklaces and decorate canvas purses. I was going to decorate a tea cup for each girl with their name on it also. Any other ideas? Also...Is it ok that we only invite girls from her preschool class? Since its a tea party? Also there are a few girls and their families in the class that don't speak english, how should I go about inviting them and talking with them at the party...I hope that doesn't sound rude, Im just curious. Thanks for any and all suggestions! :) more

Resolved Question: I need help making my daughters birthday cake ^^ pleeease?

I have some good recipes however this is my first "real" cake that I've ever made. Sure I have baked a cake and frosted it and it was ok, but I'm making her a decorated cake like you would get from a bakery as she requested. I have bought some tools, they are icing bags and the metal tools used for making leaves and flowers etc. I don't even know how to use them? Do I slide the metal piece down into the bag until it pokes a hole? What I need are cake decorating ideas, Pictures would be best, something for a beginner like maybe just a frosted cake with ruffles at the bottom and top edges but I am not very creative and cant think of a pattern or design or anything like that. Her favorite color is purple, so I'm thinking of a pastel cake frosting and then a dark purple for the ruffles and decorations? I need tips and advice, pictures and anything else you can tell me or show me to help make this work out. The cake is going to be a double 8in round. I really want this to work since she requested it. =) Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: The Wizard of Oz themed birthday party ideas?

I will be 17 this year and having a party at my house. I was thinking about giving it a theme. Nothing too extreme. I was going to wear a blue dress over a white top and wear some red shoes, with my hair in plaits - like Dorothy! I will not be renting/buying an actual costume as this costs too much. I don't expect the other guests to come in costume, as that is a lot too ask. -The invitations will be Wizard of OZ themed. -I will make a 'yellow brick road' leading from my front door to the backyard where the party will be held. -The backyard/patio will be decorated all in green to look like the Emerald City. -The cake will be Wizard of Oz themed. Do you think it sounds like it would be a good party theme? And do you have any more ideas on how to make it even better? Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Cupcakes, cookies, or cake for birthday at school? Something to easily decorate and wrap?

My 17th birthday is coming up (this Friday) and I want to celebrate at school by giving my Spanish Class snacks. Someone in our class for her birthday brought a whole cake from Safeway or Fry's. But I was thinking of not doing that and I wasn't sure if maybe I should bring cookies or cake. Pros of cupcakes: Bigger serving?, Cons: Not sure what to carry it in. (Maybe plastic wrap tied with a string?) Pros of cookies: Easy to carry in, lots to bake?, Cons: Not much creativity? Pros of Cake: Enough for everyone?, Cons: Same idea as last person, more expensive? Note: My class has about 30 kids, so that is not good because if I brought cookies, I would not know how much to bring because some might want more than one, and if I brought cupcakes, then I am not sure how to bring them to school and store them. Another question is should I bring store bought or bake them myself? Help me please. :) more

Resolved Question: What party theme do you like the best?

it's for my 13th birthday party in June. a limo is going to take me and about 15-20 friends to a really nice italian restaurant and we r going to have our own party room. I need help on which theme I should pick. Diamonds are forever/tiffany & co.- everything would be decorated in robin egg's blue. I would get like huge fake diamond rings and put them on the table. The cake would be a tiffany and co. box with the white ribbon. black and white- everything would be decorated in black and white and I would have everyone wear either a black or white dress and I would wear a pink dress. the cake would be like mac cosmetics or sephora bag. hollywood glamour- the decorations would be mostly red gold and black and maybe i could get a hollywood sign hung up on the wall and like those movie film things and a directors chair. the cake would probably be like a topsy turvy with hollywood signs and stars coming out of it. pretty in pink- everything is decorated in pink. the cake would be a juicy couture bag or a pink juicy couture purse. here's an idea of what each cake would look like: tiffany & co.- http://www.blogcdn.com/www.aisledash.com/media/2007/12/pinkcakeboxdotcom-tiffany-cake23.png black and white- http://kiacakes.com/280_224_csupload_4897080.jpg hollywood- http://www.pinkcakebox.com/images/cake649.jpg pretty in pink- http://www.pinkcakebox.com/images/cake943.jpg and please give more ideas for the theme you pick.... Resolved Question: Does this party sound like fun? 10 POINTS?

it's my 13th birthday party in June I'm not have a bat mitzvah even though im jewish cuz i never felt like going to hebrew school lol so that that's why this party is expensive anyways I was thinking i could invite around 20 girls and at about 5:30 they would come over my house and a limo could pick us up and take us to this really nice italian restaurant that's near me and they have a party room and I would decorate the room that goes with the theme that im not sure of yet. We would have dinner and then we could rent chocolate fountains from the restaurant and i might get a cake from carlos bakery (cake boss on tlc) since i dont live too far from there. is this a good idea or does it sound kind of boring??? the restaurant isn't too formal so would it look weird if we all came in dresses lol?? what are some good themes? i was thinking Diamonds are forever/Tiffany & co. theme and then the cake could be a tiffany and co box. please give more theme ideas!!!!!!! Resolved Question: I need ideas for decorating a cake for two people - 30th and 40th birthdays?

I'm pretty decent at decorating cakes, but I need some ideas for an office party for a guy who's turning 30 and a gal who is turning 40. I'd like to incorporate them into a sheet cake, but I could do 2 rounds. I've only been at the place for a few months, so I don't know them really well and I don't want to be really cruel (one of them may be sensitive to the age thing). I do know that they both look much younger than their ages. Does anyone have any ideas? more

Resolved Question: Birthday traditions in your family?

How do you celebrate your childrens' birthdays? When my kids were little, we always did the good old fashioned birthday party thing, with the pinata in the backyard, card tables in the garage, pin the tail on the donkey and, of course, a craft of some sort, lol. On their actual birthday, though, my husband and I would have the house completely decorated with banners and balloons when they woke up. We'd do cake and presents as a family, and every year I would sit down with the birthday kid and we'd watch the video from the day they were born. This was one of my favorite traditions, but now that my kids are older, they're a bit less willing. It was my 14-year-old's birthday yesterday, and when I proposed the idea, she wrinkled her nose and said, "Mooooom. I want to go over to Cynthia's house, not watch some grainy home movie with my MOM." I believe her statement was punctuated by an eye roll. Sigh. I know she's just growing up, so of course I let her go, but I watched it by myself later and I cried. I remember when she was that big. :( more

Resolved Question: Is it wrong that I don't want a sweet 16 anymore because of what my mom did (details inside)?

this will be longg, so please read it! ok well my 16th birthday is in january. and i was planning a sweet 16. just 40-50 friends in my backyard(my backyard is really big) and i was just going to decorate my backyard with lights and stuff. i was gna get catering from Stonefire(we have it in california, dont know if they have it anywhere else...) and i was going to get a DJ and what not. so this is the problem. everything was going fine, until a few days ago. i looked everywhere for cute invitations and couldnt find anything at stores like walmart, hallmark, party city, anywhre. so i found this website that has them and ordering like 50 of them is like 70 dollars or something. and i personalized it and everything. and my mom flat out said no. and then she said "are you planning on getting a DJ?" and i told her yeah and she flipped saying no. and then she said that its going to be too cold and windy at my house on my birthday, and i souldnt even have it. it really sucks. she ruined all my plans and then after shes like why dont you just email the invitations or whatever. and i told her i just dont even want one anymore. and she just kept going on with the email idea. and i told her that i didnt want one anymore. i told her whats the point of having one if i cant have anything. then she asked me how many people i was planning on having and i said 40-50 and shes like what? no blah blah. i told her "really?! mom are you really saying i cant invite my friends?" she literally told me i can only have 20 people. and we can do it in my living room... and i just had it then. she literally ruined everything. theres no point of even having a sweet 16, because it wont be sweet or fun. it will be utter crap. and i dont even want to get into the cake bit. my whole birthday is ruined and its not fair. because of everything she did, i dont even want to do a sweet 16 anymore. so my questions are: do you my mom took everything too far? if so to what extent? and is what im doing right?yeah im really spoiled... if i was spoiled i wouldve had my license and whatever i wanted. im not allowed to get my permit until 16 and a half and license at 17 and a half. i never get anything i want, i wanted it for my birthday which i cant even have. i have to work for what i want. more

Resolved Question: Artsy cake for my teacher's birthday?

Resolved Question: Do you like this idea for a 13th birthday party so far? 10 POINTS?

My 13th birthday is in June and for my birthday I want to have it at a fancy Italian restaurant (my favorite). I am inviting 15 of my best friends (girls only). We are going to have dinner and then for dessert we are renting a chocolate fountain with strawberries, brownies, and pretzels. We are also getting a cake from Carlo's Bakery (on TLC). The 2 themes I have in mind are Diamonds are Forever/Tiffany Co. or Pretty in Pink/Fashionista. For Diamonds are Forever the cake would be a Tiffany & Co. bag or gift box with diamond rings (fake lol) all around it. The pretty in pink would probably be a juicy couture purse. The decorations for Diamonds are Forever might be a silver carpet (like red carpet) leading into the room. I think I am going to scatter fake diamond rings and like diamond chunks on the table. I would have silver and Tiffany blue balloons all around the party room. I am going to have a silver table cloth and if I can find at huge plastic diamond ring then that will be the center piece. I'm not really sure how I would decorate for the other one maybe like a pink carpet with pink balloons, I don't know. I think I really like the Diamonds are Forever theme I think it would be so fun! Also, if we can find an inexpensive one, we might hire a limo to either pick everyone up or drop everyone off back at there houses at the end of the party, tell me what do you think would be better? if you have any other ideas please tell me but more importantly tell me if you think this party would be really fun!!!! Thanks so much to anyone who answers and I will give out 10 points!! more

Resolved Question: Birthday cake decoration ideas for an elderly lady?

It will be my 88 year old great aunt's birthday in a month and I volunteered to make the birthday cake. I can bake well, but I don't have much experience with cake decorating, so I thought I would skip the piped flowers and other decor that I would need a pastry bag for. I was thinking of possibly using fresh flowers around the cake (it will be a chocolate cake with chocolate icing) and possibly a couple of flowers on the top. Also, how would I do the candle/s? I was thinking of a single candle, but since the cake will be a 9"x13" cake, would the single candle be dwarfed by the size of the cake? She is a lovely old lady, and I don't think it would be a good idea to have the cake be covered in 88 candles that she would not be able to blow out. Any ideas would be appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Is it possible to throw a First Birthday with less than $100?

I have 22-25 people who are JUST family, and a few of my friends/family friends add up to about 35 total! I just found out that a refund check I'm supposed to be getting won't be quite as much as I had hoped for, so I can only spend $100 at the most. I was planning on doing sandwiches (pb&j - grape and strawberry, crunchy and smooth, pimento and cheese, and turkey, ham and roast beef, with stuff to put on them and white and wheat bread), Rotel cheese dip and chips, cookies, and cupcakes instead of a cake now. Plus drinks, decorations, and plates and cups etc etc. We're having it at home or at the city park, somewhere free! There's only 4 kids under 10, and one is younger than my son, so she won't need a "happy" bag, and the others I could probably get some stuff from the dollar store, like $5 total! Is there any way to stay under budget with that many people? Any suggestions on how to cut corners on prices? Any cheap decorating ideas? Its a cow theme! more

Resolved Question: birthday tea party ideas?

I am giving a tea party for my daughter's 9th birthday. I don't want it to be too boring for today's sophisticated kids. We will have a cake decorating contest and dress up. We also are having a pinata (a family tradition). Any other ideas? Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Need help with diabetic holiday recipes?

I am recently married and my new grandmother-in-law is a diabetic. I have always loved to cook and bake so we are hosting both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Being my first with my new in-laws I want to make sure everyone enjoys the food. I need to find some good diabetic dessert recipes. I know I can just substitute artificial sweetener for sugar but sometimes that make things taste funny. Any ideas on where I can get recipes. Also I make and decorate cakes My grandmother-in-law, husbands, and father-in-laws birthdays are all in the holiday seasons so we were going to have one big party for that. Anyone know where I can get a recipe for or buy fondant, gum paste and molding chocolate for diabetics? Is it even possible.oops that was suppose to be modeling chocolate. . .the recipe I have to make it calls for corn syrup which I know she can't have. I would hate to see her have to peel off all her decorations. more

Resolved Question: Help with 14th birthday!!?

I'm saving a lot of money up and doing extra chores to make this the bomb party, and its next month! Heres what I plan to do: OK so it is a Willy Wonka themed party. so i want to have a large room. So im gonna clear an area for a stereo system, and ask people who are coming to email you a list of songs that they want you to play at the party and you buy it on your ipod or cd. decorate the place with giant lolypops, (those big circular ones and the long twisty ones) and have a buffet like counter with lots of candy and hang candy streemers all around the place. Make the invites on golden tickets. Ask people to come wearing a white tshirt and leave with it splattered neon paint. Have black lights and provide everyone beads and glow sticks. In goody bags have candy, bows, packs of gum, rings and beads. Have lots of balloons and maybe even colored light bulbs. Have lots of chocolate dipped fruit/pretzels and make ice cubes out of cool-aid to put in sprite and other soda. Have a couple friends sleep over or just come over the day before the party to help you prepare setting up and make the food stuffs. Oh and have each table decorated with lots of colorful paper and crayons in a cup so people can doodle on the table and you can keep it for memmories like a big birthday card. can have games like kareoke and dance dance revolution and twister. Invite a lot of people and instead of a big cake make a bunch of really colorful and crazy cupcakes with lots of candy on top. My question is: Is this dumb? I want it to be a really popular party with a lot of people going, like 80 people and I was thinking I would rent out this big room with a stage that my community center has. Any further ideas?? THanks!! P.S. i have a good feeling about it and have an awesome picture in my mind, but i'm scared that i will pay for the room, and start to set up and realize that it looks really stupid and that a lot of people are coming and it will be lame so I need help to make sure its fabulous!! THANKS AGEN!!! more
