Open Question: How can I deal with a terrible dad?

My *father* is pyschologically sick and has always gone out of his way to hurt me. He started off by just being abusive to my mother and angry at everyone around him, but in recent years he has started a vendetta against me because I'm the only one who stood up to him. He paid for my younger sister to go to college and won't pay for me. She is not even that interested in academics whereas I am very academic and it was my dream. I also got very high grades. He also tells me: "I will never help you to get what you want". I am a nice girl and have always done well at school. I don't drink heavily, never smoked, never did drugs and am ambitious. He doesn't like my ambition because he was not ambitious himself. He is a misogynist and dislikes smart women. Even if they are his own daughter! He treats my sister like gold and rubs it in my face. He just let her go to university and yet told me I'd have to work myself for it. When I was a child he used to act aggressive towards my friends if he met them so I didn't bring them home. Now, he acts specially nice to them. Not so that nobody expects abuse, but just to put me down. I feel so lost and alone. The ones I am supposed to be able to turn to (my parents) are abusive. What can I do? I tried to see a counsellor but she was no help emotionally. She just said: "Well, what are u going to do?" I said, "make enough money on my own to go to college". She said: "Good, u don't need me then" and went to see the next person. If u want to get a decent counsellor u have to pay money (which I don't have). I will be starting college 3 years late for no reason at all, except for him. On my 18th and 21st birthdays, he would not say happy birthday, didn't write me a card nor give me any kind of present. Conversely, he took my sister on a special vacation for hers and through my mom a huge 50th birthday party. The abuse is not physical so there is nothing prosecutable. I want him to pay for what he has done and left me in such an awful situation. How can I rectify what he has done? I need some kind of support base and to build back up my self-esteem, but I doubt I'll get one. more

Open Question: How to be happy being single or alone or whatever?

I am a single 18 year old guy and have just graduated from high school last summer and simply just trying to find a job to save up some money for college. After graduating from high school, I find myself, lonelier than I thought I would be. My friends have moved on to Universities or some special college, but even then, they have enough or even go out of their way just to make some time for their other friends. And they all make time for each other, except for me. I guess in my own special ways, I find myself "comfortable" being alone. So I only talk with a few good friends every now and then, and spend most of my time playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with my, "internet friends", online for like 6 hours a day because I have nothing to do since I have no job. I would even go as far as to say, that I know them better than my real life friends, and we call each other our real life names instead of our user names like, "Detective Socks". And when I go out, I get glances from the occasional girl at the street or mall and make eye contact too. If my friends have told me that I'm funny, intelligent, and cute looking, then why am I still single still? Or why my friends have more time for others but not me? I know dating isn't everything but... I hate this feeling of being alone and that there's nothing great going on for me at all. And everyday I stay up till 4AM on the internet or playing video games and have found myself looking at a lot of porn, not the really obscene ones. I've always hated when people tell me how great of a person I am or some cliche like I should live my life as if I would die tomorrow. If I am so great, why is it that I have so little to show? I know what some of you are thinking, "Why don't you go back to school and get a student loan?". Well, to make things a lot shorter, my older brother would beat the snot out of me and mock me and made me feel inept in everything I did and therefore I became easily flustered to the point that I believed I was conditioned to be socially inept and felt that I was incapable of living ever since, why?, because I didn't get very good marks ever since I was in Grade 1 and then when I told this to my Mom 11 years later who lives in California she flipped bananas and wanted to take me away with her and that started a bloody storm of family fights but in the end my older brother was sorry to me even though I don't feel a shred of mercy for him but did treat me a lot better afterwards and my mother left me because I didn't want to go to school for a year so I can make money for next year at school and at my birthday she sent me a birthday card with many motivational platitudes she could ever think of to win me back so I can be her, "Son", again. So did you think I could concentrate at school? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I failed at high school because my Grade 6 teacher once told me that average was only good enough for me when I asked her if the provincial test was hard. And now, after looking for 7 months for a bloody job and have gone no where in my life except reading philosophy of mainly Existentialism and watching Diehard in 4 in the morning. In short, my life sucks and have never been close to anybody in my life, even my family and friends. How do I live at least more comfortable being single or alone or whatever? more

I'm in a bit of a hurry right now, so I'll just put the details in list form: - On average, I make 5 A's and 1 B on my report card. - I'm 14 and going into high school (9th Grade) this August. - I've rarely gotten into a fight with my parents - I do all my chores consistently (which is cleaning up, literally, the whole house; maintaining the cat; and so on) - My parents appreciate my friends (In other words, they don't think they are evil or up to no good) - My parents are not having any finacial issues (They buy expensive things all the time without a credit card) - They have a great cellphone plan (unlimited texting and internet; calling is free at night and on weekends and to people with the same carrier, plus 400 minutes a month for other times/carriers. It would cost nothing to add another phone) - Both my parents have nice cellphones - My 2 sisters got a cellphone around 13/14 and they were "very irresponsible" (as said by my parents) - I'm a boy (just mentioning that in case that might have anything to do with it) I've talked about it before (only a few times, no more than once every other month) but they always say something along the lines of "you're too young" or "when I was your age, we..." It just doesn't make sense too me. P.S.: My 14th birthday was a few months ago, so they were not saving it for that.Yes, I am the youngest. God, I hope that's not the reason they hold back on spending any money on me :-P more

I'm writing a composition about entertaining ideas for parties for class. I've come up with a couple do you have any other ideas? 1) I once bought an inexpensive glass figurine for my daughter for her birthday and put it into a beautiful little box. I then went to the bank and had the teller give me fifty one dollar bills for a fifty dollar bill. I went home and crumpled up the dollars and used it like packing peanuts to protect the figurine. I wrote on her card. That I had ran out of packing material. You should have seen the look on her eyes as she opened that box. 2 I had a buddy who was having a birthday and knowing his taste for beer, I was stuck on what to give him for birthday. My wife asked if we should bake him a cake? I said no, cake doesn't go good with beer. I thought let's just get him a 12 pack of Coors Light, his favorite. She asked if we shold wrap it in gift paper. I said no, he'd know what it is. Then my brain went to work, Let's frost if like a birthday cake and put one of those big candles on it. So I bought 2 cans of white frosting and some decoration frosting and really made it up big. You shoud have seen the look on his face when he tried to cut into the cake. lol he laughed his butt off. He told me he would never forget that one. He said it made his day. I wrote on the card, forget the cake let's have a beer instead. These are some of the ideas I have. Open Question: Am I depressed or just extremely sad?

Ok so I am 15 years old and have been fine. But the other day I was walking home and I saw kids playing at a park and I just got sad. And now all my memories that I have been trying to forget o=are coming back. Let me explain myself. I am the middle of three brothers. And when I was 5 my father walked out on us leaving us to be raised by our mother. My brothers never liked me and my mother never paid attention to me. When I was 6 I was being constantly abused by my step father and my mom didn't care. And at 8 my mother just stopped caring about me and just sent me to live with my grandmother. There none of the other kids talked to me. My whole life I have never had a friend. Nobody would play with me or like I said even give the time to speak to me. I spent all of my time just sitting on a bed in a dark room. I never really got to have my childhood because my grandmother (Who works for SPAR) made me work putting up the greeting cards or building those sunglass displays at places like RITE AID, LONGS, CVS, ALBERTSON'S,and Kmart. And at home she made me clean. I was never aloud to have an opinion on anything it was do it or eat it. I never even had my own bed I shared it with my grandmother. And all of this time I didn't once hear from my mother or brothers. My summer vacations were spent working. My weekend were spent cleaning. I never celebrated my birthday or even got Christmas presents. And my family wasn't poor we are high middle class. I only got to eat if I did good work. I never got to do sports or listen to music. I never got to play ball with the neighbors, nothing.I never even got to enjoy simple things like pizza because I am allergic to tomatoes. When I was 13 my mother moved to the same city that I lived in with my brothers but they almost never visited. And when they did my brothers would beat me up. At 14 my mother made me move back in with her. I then realized that I am the most responsible person in my family. Both my brothers are no good pot smokers and my mom is now living off my new step father who luckily is nice. So Instead of being a teenager out having fun I clean and eat Hot Pockets and Top Ramen since I am the ony one who cares about anything. And still nobody talks to me. And now I am one month away from getting a learners permit and I started to notice children playing. And I just think about how I am almost an adult and have never played fort orclimed hills, I have never gone to the beach or eaten pizza with friends. I never had a childhood and now I am too old to. And I cry. because I never experienced the best years of life. And with how I have to take care of my house in order to live I can't even enjoy being a teen. Even if I did't clean and cook I would be able to do it because nobody at school likes me and they tell me to go away. I know this is just a sob story but am I depressed, I have never really put all of these thoughts together before untill I saw those kids playing. So what do you think and is there any you suggest me to do. Note I will not take up drugs or alcohol. But am I depressed? more

Situation: I like my one of my friends A LOT, but I can tell that she doesn't like me that way. We never talked about this stuff but I'm pretty sure she knows I like her, but I'm not sure if she knows that I am fine with her not liking me. Anyways, since I am fine with her not liking me, I still like to tell her how beautiful she is (When ever I can). I just got a new camera for my birthday,early birthday present actually :) So my mom bought me the Coolpix s3000 and I have read the entire booklet and cd that came with it.But I still have questions that need to be answered.So Here they are: 1) How do you know when the charging is complete? Open Question: How long until a girl should text a guy after their first date?

I went on a date with a guy I had met on vacation. He was a true gentleman. He asked me if I'd like to go out for coffee and paid for the drinks. He listened to me when I subtly mentioned sitting outside, and he asked if I would like to sit outside. So, we sat outside, drinking our coffee and talking about ourselves. In all of that, I suggested trading addresses so I would be able to send him a birthday card for his birthday in a few days. He said to text it to him because he would lose it otherwise. Well, I asked him to walk me across the street to a restaurant where I would meet a few of my family members. He happily agreed and we ended our date with a hug. I sat down at the table and about an hour later, I texted him my address. He has not responded yet, but it has only been a day and a half since I last saw him. Should I wait for a text from him? Or should I text him one more text saying I enjoyed our time together and thought he was a true gentleman? I don't want to break any of those "man laws". haha. more

So my crush's bestfriend is having an 18th birthday party tmrw and i bought him a led zeppelin tshirt. However, my crush's birthday is tuesday and i was planning on slipping a card into his locker and leaving a gift on the lost and found shelf for him (the card would tell him where it was). I was going to make him record (vinyl) bookends because i thought they were cool and it shows him i spent time making them for him. Open Question: Should I give my daughters paternal grandparents a chance- they forgot her birthday?

My daughters grandparents on her dads side have never really shown any interest in their grand-daughter. They have only seen her once when she was 2 weeks old and have not bothered to ask to see her until now. It was her 1st birthday on the 8th march they have my address and did not even bother to said a card. They phoned my ex the father two weeks later and FORGOT it was her birthday and made up excuses. They have asked to see her, i dont know whether I should allow it seeing as they cant be bothered to send a card in time. They never phone to ask how she is, until very recently. I do not get on with my ex's parents I think they think I am a homewrecker because I got with my ex very quickly after he broke up with his previous ex who he has a child with. the grandparents have otherchildren that they dont ever see either but I am not sure on the circumstances why so cannot comment on it. But I was very upset that they could not send a card or even bother to phone or contact me on facebook do you think I should allow them to come to my house and see my daughter ?At the moment i will not allow my ex to take my daughter to his home as it is a shared home which he shares with 5 males and I do not know who they are, so my boyfriend can only take her out or come to my home to see her. She calles me her best friend but I dont consider her mine. I mean yeah I hang out with her a lot but shes not the first person I call whenever I want to talk to someone. She hardly listens to me but im always there for her. She is really selfish at times and has no common sense whatsoever. Lets just say shes not the sharpest tool in the shed. Shes always absent minded and is just an idiot. And she has no maners. My other friends and I would go to her house and when we got there she would totally ignore us and go and talk to her family like we werent there. It just bothers me so much cause she has no maners. You dont do that when you have people over. It was my birthday this week and she didnt get me anything, which I was kind of shocked by. She bought me a cookie cake and we cut it at her house i mean that was fine i dont want anything big i really liked it. As soon as we cut it she took it away and didnt ask anyone if they wanted more, and kept it for herself and didnt let me keep it. I mean if you buy a cookie cake for someone you would let them keep it right? it was really tacky. I would totally let the person keep if if I bought them a cake for their b-day. It was really rude. I know its the thought that counts but my other friends just made me cards and stuff and didnt get me anything and I loved it because you could tell they put thought into it. I liked it better than what my other friend did. Taking the cake away right away made me feel like she didnt want to do anything for me and she only did it cause she had to. Shes really moody and i dont know if I can take it anymore. It annoys me so much. Some days she will want to talk to you and shes fun to be around and other days she will be really boring and wont talk at all. She gives me a ride home from school and sometimes doesnt even talk to me, which makes it really awkward. I try to keep a convo but all i get out of her is "yeah" "ok" "yeah" "i know". She says nothing to keep the convo going. Most of the time she acts this way through absent mindedness and I know maybe shes not aware of what shes doing but it still annoys me. So tell me, do you think it was rude what she did with the cookie cake and would you be friends with this person or am i overreacting?and i dont think i could confront her about it cause i hate it and i feel like im being mean and i dont want to start drama with anyone. i know its bad but yeah lol. more

this guy sent a birthday card to a friend, when the friend received it she thanked him on his facebook wall, the guy replied saying youre welcome etc and wishing her a happy bday again, and THEN once again on her actual birthday (like day after receiving card) he wrote on her wall another long happy birthday message!? i know this guy is a nice guy but what's the need to wish happy bday so many times? seems quite desperate imo, but what would be the aim of his actions - theres nothing going on between this guy and girl, as the girl has a long time bf and theres very low chance this guy is interested in her in that way? more

Open Question: How to convince her to trust me?

I met this nice and very intelligent girl through an online social networking site. We chatted for almost 5 months, having incredible conversations. She sent me a card for my birthday. Now her birthday is coming up and I want to send her a card and present. She balks when I ask for an address to send it to and suddenly acts like I'm dangerous and untrustworthy. All i want to do is send her a birthday present. I told her that if I was really dangerous, I wouldn't have invested as much time and energy into her as I did. But she is stubborn and won't budge. I said some things to her that I shouldn't have said, in my anger, mostly criticizing her for being so paranoid and not trusting me, trying to make her see reason.
