Open Question: Would you be upset if your boyfriend does not go out of his way for birthdays/holidays?

Ok, so yesterday was my birthday. I do not expect much from anyone, I do not have high expectations but I do expect a little something out of the ordinary from my boyfriend, mostly I want him to be with me for at least a day. Here is the scenerio, the day before my birthday my boyfriend gave me a card and he just signed it happy birthday. I was really happy about the card and everything and I was like oh you gave me the card of my most favorite movie!!! He was like yeah, hold on a second and he went and to his room and got the DVD to give to me as a gift. I was looking at the DVD, still unopened and I was like "Hey, isnt this the DVD I gave to you some time ago?" Caught, he guilty tone he answered "Um, yes". I just played it off laughing because it was not really my birthday yet and I treated it more or less like a joke. We laughed about it but I thought ok, from this situation he might try harder on my real birthday. So, a few hours later, I noticed it was a little after midnight and my boyfriend was talking about how late it was... I was hoping he would realize that it was officially my birthday but he never said anything until the morning when he called me. Later in the day, I was to go visit him at work and I was hoping he would take some time off to spend with me. He owns his own business and it wouldnt hurt if he ordered someone else to close for the evening. Around ten at night, he was like, well I am going to close out some employees bc we are closed now. I know it takes at least 45 minutes to close and he just left me in the office. To make a long story short, we did nothing out of the ordinary on my birthday and he never really had a gift or anything for him. He just told me, let me give you some money to buy a new pair of jeans..... He asked me how much my jeans were bc he had given me money for those, like $400, but for me its not the money, its the thought. I told him no, I do not need a new pair of jeans and I do not want to put $400 into blue jeans... If you see what I mean, I just want him to spend time with me or set up an evening for just "us" rather than him putting me on the back burner. We have been together 5 years, it has always been this way... In fact, I have never received any kind of special jewelry from him, I dont mean expensive, just something to remember him... Do I need to talk to him about how he doesnt go out of his way to please me for holidays, birthdays... I mean on a daily basis he does nice things for me like makes me dinner, but could it be that he makes the dinner for his own benefit, he NEVER asks me what I want, he just prepares things for me without asking me what I want... In restaurants, he orders food for me too and I really dont get a chance to decide. I suppose that it is expected that in high school there will be dating issues but I have been experiencing quite a few lately. About a year and a half ago I dated a guy that was definately not my type for stupid reasons. The kid was an egotistical and stuborn jerk that clung to me like a leach for six months before I was actually fed up enough to dump him. It was my birthday and I knew he had some present planned. For the sake of my own consiounse I dumped him before he gave me the present. The next day he showed up at my house uninvited with the gift and kind of let himself in. I was too embarrassed to say anything after I opened it and so we sat in an awkward silence for near 2 hours. My step dad finally took care of it and told him to leave. After that, he still showed up at my house on monday to wake me up in the morning as he always did and postponed telling his friends, with whom I was also close, that we were not dating for about two months. I still hung out with his/my friends during lunch and began to develope feelings for one of the guys in the group. My ex was still nearly stalking me and it came to the place in which I resented my ex But, despite my resentment, I didn't make a move on the friend for many months until one day we were hanging out. I told him how I felt about him and he kind of brightened up but didn't say anything. After that we hung out a lot it what he called "dates", though he hadn't even told me that he liked me as well. It was very similar to our friendship before hand. I eventually realized that I valued him more as a friend than a boyfriend and so I kind of distanced myself. Which was fairly easy since he and I were not really a couple. We continued to hang out with the same crowd for quite a while until family issues forced me to move states. The move was supposed to be perminant however we came back after three months to the same house. I reconected with my friends and everything was going well for a while. After about two weeks of me being back the guy I lost feelings for asked me out. Not thinking correcting considering the circumstances of my current living situation, I said yes. Both of us kept it a secret while we were dating and only a week, I realized that I could not see him as more than a friend. I broke it off as that, expecially considering the stress I was under, I did not see us being able to be in a relationship. I felt bad about both of the guys and confided in yet another, kinder, friend of mine from that group what had happened. He gave me advice and helped me through until he began asking some rather odd questions that threw up red flags in my mind. I asked him about the questions and he said that he too liked me. The unfortunate thing about all of this is that I dated my boyfriend, even though I had a large crush on kinder friend. It has been a couple of weeks since he told me and I am still rather shaken up about it all. What should I do? more

Open Question: Do boyfriends like getting stuffed animals as gifts?

I'll describe my gift. It's an amigurumi (crocheted stuffed animal) of a creature from an animated movie he and I both really like. I didn't buy it, I made it myself. It's also something you will not find in any store. Would a guy like this sort of thing? I'm asking because I know that the majority of guys aren't into stuffed animals and wouldn't really appreciate getting one, but in this case, since I made it myself, and it's of something specific that I know he likes, and it's unique, I thought that might make it a good gift even though it's a stuffed animal. Open Question: Help, I want to run away from home..?

I am about 8 months from turning 18. My immediate family treats me like I'm unwanted. I do all the chores of the house and in the past, I've manage to keep my grades above 3.6 on a 4.0 scale. I've never had a "grats" from anyone when i do great things and my mother doesn't allow me to do more community work than i do now. I only teach Bible Studies class once a week and help with a quarterly events at church. I am never allowed to leave the house to enjoy time with friends and I feel as though I never had a childhood considering the fact that I've been shut away in the house almost all the time. I've never been allowed to participate in school-related events such as clubs or activities after schools of such. I just don't know if i could survive my senior year of going through this again. I've cut too many times and I've shed too many tears. What I'm trying to ask is, is it reasonable to run from home once I turn 18? Is it possible for me to leave at 18 while still in high school? I will have passed first semester when i turn 18 and I could most likely live with my boyfriend who lives right next to the high school or with my friend who's been with me through everything. They've tried to help me cope with this, but it's not helping. Problems always arise within this household and it just makes everything worse. I wouldn't mind giving everything back to my parents. I guess I could be called spoiled or more than deserving or whatever you want to call it, but it's just been enough for me. I'm tired to being blamed for all the wrong doings that I don't have part in. I would be willing to give everything back to my parents. Clothes, phone, my birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, etc. They could have it all back. I just don't want to deal with cutting myself over this anymore. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. more

I'm putting together a gift basket for my boyfriend's nephew (so I don't plan on spending a fortune). Okay, I'm in a long distance relationship. My boyfriend and I have been dating for about 6 months now. I send him emails every morning, afternoon, and after school. This is a little long, but what girl can tell a short story. Haha. OK girls, I have always been a girlie boy. My friends have always been girls. In grade school when we would line up tallest to shortest, at the end of the line it was always the last boy, four girls, me (I am a boy) and a girl about an inch shorter than me. If she wore maryjanes, she was just taller than me, and the other girls teased me a little about it, but in a sweet way. I was a very feminine boy, and I was always around girls because of my hight, in grade school I was friends with the girls. I was never invited to one of the boys birthday parties, but I was always invited to the girls birthday parties. At first I knew being girlie was wrong because I was a boy (7 years old), but at the same time, I liked playing dress up instead of baseball. At the first three birthday parties, i think i was in first grade, I briefly protested participating in girlie games, such as realy races in heels. But the mom was always sooo sweet and explained how much fun I would miss out on and that I may hurt the birthday girls feelings if I did not participate, so I played along. After three birthdays parties, and a lot of play time with the girls, dressing up as a princess at a party was as natural as walking. To the girls, I was no longer a friend that seemed out of place, and the mothers were sooo sweet and treated me like one of the girls. At first, the girls had gift bags with toy jewelry and make-up. maybe a tiera, and I got a gift bag with a mens watch and maybe baseball cards. It was sweet that the moms would go out of thier way to get me boy toys. But after I started to fit in with the girls, I got the same gift bags. My dad left when I was little, and my mom was very feminine, so when she would pick me up from a party, she would ask what I got. When I told her I got lipstick, she would ask what color, tell me how pretty it will look, and talk to me liked I was her daughter. I think if I was bigger, she would have treated me more like a boy, but all my friends were girls. When we went out, like to the roller rink, my mom hung out with the other girls moms, we even went on the annual trip to the American Girl Store for tea. I had a Molly doll. To make a long story short, I was always one of the girls. I am now 19 and am dating a boy. I am still feminine, like a masculine guy and like to make him feel like a man. At home, I am his princess. His girl. AndI like to make him happy, and will get him a beer if he is watching football. Or make him a snack. I like to take care of my man. But when we go out, all of a sudden he treats me like a guy. He will ask me who I think will win the superbowl, or something like that, even though my girlfriends see me as one of the girl and their boyfriends see me as a sissy who would rather go shopping than watch a football game (by the way, I am proud to be sissy. Lost my right to be a guy in the 5h grade when my girlfriends stood up to boy for me). So, to get my boyfriend to treat me like the princess he says I am, I am going to wear some lingerie for him I plan on walking out of the powder room just when he gets in bed (he will be suprised because I have never worn lingerie for him before) I will ask him if he thinks I am pretty. Hopefull he will say yes. I will then ask him if I am pretty enough to be his princess. (again, he is all man and has called me his princess before). Then I will tell him I love being his princess, but a princess needs her prince to treat her like a princess, my favorite flower is a star gazer lilly. Hopefully he will get the hint and start treating me like his girl and relize I need him to be a man for me. Open Question: I don't think i can stand my boyfriend much longer?

He never tells me he loves me unless i say it first and he treats me worse then most people, he said me and his ex are the only people he treats bad. In a 3 hour conversation through text he never used more then 3 words to reply and most of the time his answer was lol or haha and it's really pissing me off. I am looking for a thoughtful/original gift for my boyfriend. His birthday is in April. He really enjoys scuba diving over the summer so I was thinking of maybe doing something around that. He took me for a weekend away and planned out everything for my birthday, so I want to put in the same effort. Any thoughts? more

I have alot in my head that needs to come out and i feel like i have no one to talk to...i'll try to make this as short as possible, bear with me, it won't be easy but i really need help since jan. 2006, i have moved from new england to the south, while down there, had many jobs, many moves with bad roommates and a roller coaster romance that eventually led to me moving home in april 2007. during that time i also dealt with my mother back home battling cancer. i drove back and forth several times over 9 months to visit her, only to end up watching her take her last breath as i held her hand. (this is the short story, there is way more to it, as you can imagine.) shortly after moving back home, i went to dinner with a friend who wanted to set me up with one of his friends. i said no, after everything i had just dealt with, a boyfriend was the last thing i wanted. well, we decided to have a casual night out with our friends, no big deal. that night, none of my friends showed, but all his did. as a fun person, i went anyway. needless to say, i got drunk and woke up in someone's bed...you guessed it, him. i was embarrassed, but he explained everything that happened, which was one humiliating scene after another until i passed out and he volunteered to take care of me. i was relieved to find out that nothing happened between us either. we had a good time that night, but no instant attraction. anyway, we ended up spending the weekend together talking and just having a nice time. i'm trying to keep it short, but it's hard. continuing on, a week later, we were madly in love and couldn't get enough of each other. 6 weeks later, we were pregnant. we decided having a baby is wonderful. we tell our families, mine in new england, his in the midwest and both are thrilled. 8 weeks later, march 2008, we decide to move to the midwest to be closer to his family to have help with the baby.(since my mom is gone) a mere 6 weeks after moving, my dad dies. as the oldest of 4, i was left in charge of his estate (which is a WHOLE other set of issues) and had to spend 2 weeks back home handling everything. can you believe this crap? now, when we moved we didn't have jobs and we discussed me staying home while he works, fine. he didn't work the whole time i was pregnant. good, because we really got to know each other. bad, because we spent almost all of our savings in the process. he got a job just after the baby was born in sept 2008 (side story...creepy enough, when i told my dad the baby's due date, it was 9 days before his birthday and he said, "i hope you are late and have him on my birthday, that would be the best gift". the baby was born the day before my dad's at 11:38pm cst, it 12:38am est, his birthday, crazy, huh?) where was i?...oh yeah, his work. so, he got a job, quit that job to take next job, next job laid him off 6 weeks later, then unemployment for a month or so until his current job in sales, making a third of what he made before we moved. now, it's 18 month later...my son is the most wonderful, beautiful boy you could ever meet. i love him more than anything...he's never a worry. now, here's the problem...daddy (as i will refer to him) and i aren't getting along and we are now at a point where we know we either need to fix it or move on, but with a kid, it's complicated. and with my set of circumstances, it's complicated. however, i know that those are excuses. i know i can change my life. i've been researching, reading and watching videos to get answers to questions i have about all aspects in life including health, fitness, nutrition, happiness, money making opportunities, investing and so on, because i truly want to be a better person, successful, happy. but, i don't keep up with anything. i gained 75 lbs during my pregnancy. lost 25, off the bat.i started working out when the baby was about 6 months old, 5x a week, and ate healthy most of the time, lost 15lbs. i still have to lose 35 and really want to before my sister's wedding in july (maid of honor). not only to look good in the strapless dresses she chose, but to be fit and healthy for life and be a good role model to my son. i've never had a weight issue, maintained my weight, occasionally gained 5-10 lbs, never more than that. but now, i feel fat, jiggly and out of shape. i want every workout video i see on tv, it's silly. but, i can't seem to get myself out of bed in the morning. i want to wake up at 6:30, workout for at least 45 minutes, shower, get dressed (instead of staying in my pj's all day), get the baby up, fed, me (and daddy, if i could get him to eat breakfast) fed, teeth brushed, and on with the day. that's not what happens, i get up when i hear the baby talking, sometimes i'm motivated to workout and i do, but it's not consistant. i change him and feed him while daddy hurrily gets ready for work because he's late again for the job he hates. he leaves, we play and wthen when i put him down for a nap, i go and smoke some pot. i hate to admit it, but i'm addicted to pot and it's just stupid that i smoke anytime my son is sleeping. that's just one issue. daddy is a stressball who has a completely cynical, negative outlook on life, has a poor diet, has gained weight, is in poor health and hates his job so much he doesn't want to wake up in the morning. before i get cut off again...what do i do? i have no parents, all of my friends are 900 miles away and i don't have enough money to see a therapist. (he controls all the money and isn't doing a good job keeping us afloat). how can i be motivated to get up in the morning, workout, eat right and get on with a productive day? how can i help my man see his destructive path? how can we get our finances together? what steps should i take to better my life? i want to be a smart, successful, happy person with a loving family. thank you for reading this, any positve advice is appreciated. more

I love my mum dearly and we have always been close. However, in the last 15 years she has become more and more of a bitch to me. I come from a "dysfunctional" family, but see myself as the black sheep as I have made something of my life. My dad was an alcoholic and died in his 50's, my mum then dated a string of toyboys. My sister and two brothers are wasters who take drugs, live off state benefits and dont ever bother about me or my Mum. I own my house, work, have a lovely son and boyfriend and treat my mum with respect and am the only one who bothers to get her Xmas, Birthday, Mothers Day gifts, I take her out for meals and try and do nice things for her. However, she critisises what I buy her, what I do for her, and tries on every occasion to run me and my life down. So everytime we meet, we end up having a huge fight, I end up feeling guilty for shouting ( as she is my mum and I love her ) so I arrange to meet up with her again, and the cycle continues.We meet, we fight, we meet again. I hate the way she is towards me, but I love her. I am so torn as to what to do? more

Ive been looking into the German State Flag, I want to buy one for my boyfriend for his Birthday. However, I've been noticing that one flag has gold coloring, and the other bright yellow. There also seems to be an eagle thats longer (taller) looking and one that's more stubby. I'd like to buy an accurate replica, specifically in 200d woven (knitted is considerable) polyester in 3X5 foot dimensions, however it seems all manufacturers only make it as high as 150d polyester knitted (which feels very cheap and has a crappy bleed through). Does anyone know what the facts are about how the flag is supposed to look, and of any suppliers that would make or customize it in these specifics? It'd be so appreciated, and would make my boyfriend very happy to receive such a nice gift like this :) more

My ex called, the morning of my birthday to wish me a happy a birthday. Later in the evening, after seeing that I was upset that we could not meet for lunch, he asked me to meet him online, so he could show me something. When I met him online, he showed me that he got me a gift. A very thoughtful gift that took time and consideration. I was so surprised, and I said to him, “you got me a gift?” And he replied with “of course I did.” He said after this quarter of school is done, he wants to sit and talk about "where we stand, and where to go from here." He said he doesn’t want to talk about it, because emotionally it will screw him up, and he can’t afford to fail school, and I agree with that. What does this mean? I know that he still cares, but is it as a friend, or something more? I have talked to him a few times this past week, and he has called, and I have called. We are laughing and teasing, and its like the spark is still there. His cousin called in between one of our convos, and when he was done, he called right back...what do you think? Resolved Question: I need some advice girls/ guys help me out?

Ok this is gonna be a long story, but I feel it's necessary so you can understand what the situation is. It involves a friend and I, both of us are 23. I have a friend who I've known since Freshman year of high school. We've had sex a few times, but we were never at a point in our relationship to call ourselves boyfriend/girlfriend. We were pretty much friends with benefits. So 2 years ago after a bad fight I decide not to waste my time anymore on her and stop talking to her. We would talk the occasional "hey how are you?" or "how was work?" talk but nothing like "What are you doing tonight?" talk. Now I'm not one to hold a grudge for a long time, so a few months ago she messages me on Facebook and invites me to a pub to see this band play. I told her I can't go. She invites me to her birthday last month in February and says "I'd be really excited if you came to my party" now me being suspicious am thinking "either this girl is playing me" or "it's probably one of her friends playing a joke on me" but I bite and tell her I'll see her for her birthday which was a two day event going on Friday and Saturday. I give her a gift because she's my friend and I like her as such. The fight we had was two years ago and I had gotten over it. We both agreed that there's a lot we needed to talk about. So we clubbing with her and her friends on Friday then out to drink on Saturday. She's happy I came. Fast forward to this month, she really wants to spend time with me because she was really happy I came to her party and says "We can go where ever you want and do whatever you want" as a way to thank me and explains how sorry she was for putting me through all the bullshit. So I'm like alright, whatever, no problem, I'm not really buying into it. I tell her we could go out for drinks on Saturday and that she could invite some friends and we'll make it l a little group thing. She says "that's great but I really want it to be just us." Now the problem I have with this is that I know this girl very well and whenever she wants to spend time alone it's a clear sign she wants to have sex. I have no problem with that since we've already done it before, but from the 7 years I've known her since High School to after College. I've been less attracted to her, she's gained weight and smokes on a regular basis. The weight I can handle since I'm not Brad Pitt myself, but the smoking I find as a total turn off. I only like her as a friend and no longer sexually attracted to her. I want her to understand that I don't want our friendship to be just sex So my question is how do I tell her that I don't wanna have sex with her without making her upset? ps. I know some of you are probably thinking "what kind of 23 years old guy DOESN"T want to have sex?" but I've matured a lot more since high school and college. more

I know what you're all gonna say.. you should've been abstinent!!! Cause thats the 100% birthcontrol! or take the pill or whatever.. . .but damnit. I had all these ideas that I would wait to have sex till I was 18.. so if I got pregnant it wouldn't be too much of an issue.. But it turns out, it's really really hard to hold back, when you're tempted. So yesterday I lost my virginity to my boyfriend.. and we weren't using condoms or anything, because previously we weren't sexually active, and didn't need them.. Well.. in the heat of the moment. yeah. we had sex unprotected. But the thing is.. he tried using the pull-out technique.. and he's convinced he managed to hold the sperm in, long enough to get his penis out of me.. But I'm still paranoid. And I'd rather die, than let my family and friends know that I'm not a virgin anymore.. and I could possibly be pregnant.. My concern is that he could've accidently let go of a little inside of me without realizing it. Though he keeps trying to reassure me that he didn't.. . I wouldn't know. because that was my first time ever having sex.. .. But atleast I was.. what.. 9 months away from my 18th birthday... Oh fuck.. that would be such a twisted birthday gift.. Okay.. my question... are there effective ways to kill pregnancy if it occurs,, without my family and friends knowing?.. Please don't just tell me that I should know better.. She doesn't wear make up, she's really into music (like seriously she has voice lessons, guitar lessons, and piano lessons and listens to almost all music genres), down to earth and enjoys life's simplicities and is naturally beautiful. She's 5 7-ish, moderately bouncy hair of average length, light skin tone, green eyes, and a couple dozen freckles on her face, and a beautiful smile. I don't know what to do. My boyfriend will constantly tell me something he doesn't want me to do (like rinse off the dishes)--but heck he waits 3 days to clean his, I wash mine within 20 minutes. Then after he picks on me for a spoon that wasn't rinsed, he tells me I can keep his birthday gifts I bought him, and don't take a shower to go out to eat for his birthday.
