I think so. Decades ago, it was decided to put Franklin Roosevelt's image on a dime. Later, they made half-dollars with John Kennedy's image. And on a $1 coin, they put Eisenhower's profile. That was the largest and heaviest coin in modern American history, I believe, but Eisenhower wasn't the biggest, and heaviest President--Taft was. More to the point: why was it OK to change the famous images depicted on coins, but not on paper money? The most "modern" image on the face of any US bill is US Grant--on the $50. Alexander Hamilton was a very impressive, important American. But he never was President. Thomas Jefferson was our 3rd President, but he only made to the heads side of a nickel! Replacing the head of a buffalo, of all things!! Can anyone make sense of this? Reagan was a popular President who embodied many of the best American traits. He became President at the age of 69, when he looked about 55. But Hamilton died at the age of 47! Why does he get the red carpet treatment, with his noble portrait right in the middle of a highly respected bill--the $10?Well, I can see that I am dealing with some highly intelligent people here, so if you don't mind.........................I would like to suggest an alternative solution. How about: THE FIRST EVER US CURRENCY WITH 2 FACES ON IT? How about a new $10 bill with the faces of BOTH Reagan and Hamilton? This way we can reconcile the old with the new, and our nation's early history with its more recent history. Plus, both men were handsome. And that is always good for America's image. moreResolved Question: Any coin collectors out there? Help with composition of coins!?
I need to know the history of u.s coins...the composition. what is the history of the composition on nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar, and dollar... (i already have penny). Thanks to anyone that collects coins or just happens to know....i tried google, but it didn't come up with alot of info. Thanks!! i appreciate any info you can give me about composition of coins! (like what they are made up of...the types of metals in past times! thanks!) moreResolved Question: Americans, how would you feel if the penny became obsolete?
The U.S. Mint has reported that, for the first time in history, the cost of making pennies now eclipses the value of the coin (i.e., it now costs 1.2 cents to make a 1 cent coin). This is due to higher metal prices, specifically zinc. So, do you consider the penny a "nuisance coin"? Would you rather get rid of it and round off prices to the nearest nickel? Oh, and by the way, the nickel now costs more to make than it is worth, as well.
