Resolved Question: Please save me some embarrassment from my project, or support what I am doing.?
I am working on a math project that is extra credit. I currently have a 66 in the class from the last time I checked my grades. I like to be creative and funny, and for the puzzle, should I write the definition of the word as the clue or should I make it a word pun? (Example, Mongolian raptors in New York would be velocity because the proper name for a mongolian raptor would be VELOciraptor, and New York is a CITY.) I'm not sure if other students will be filling this puzzle out. I feel as if I do it regular, people would get disappointed and ask me why isn't it more "outrageous". People already know I come up with "outrageous stuff" and I asked my teacher in front of the whole class if I was allowed to use word puns as the hints instead of the actual definition. She said yes, but she also said "as long as they aren't off the wall." I try to make them understandable, but I also make it so that it has easy questions and harder questions. I feel that if I do it my way, I'll be happy about myself that I was being creative and being myself, not the person everyone wants me to be, but what if there is negative commentary on my project? What if I get a lower grade because of it? I feel that if I do it like everyone else probably did it, I'll be happy that I breathed like a normal person for once, but then I'll feel like I was being too mature and more sullen and boring and in a way. The other kids in the class are mostly chavs and jocks; boring to me; I don't want to be a normal person because a lot of people say that the unpopular, more creative kids are the ones that are successful not the popular idiots that probably won't even get half of this stuff. I over-think things too much, don't I? It's a bad habit. It kind of sucks. I'm sure once I click "continue" this is going to be long as hell. So what do you think? Should I be myself and make the best crossword puzzle out of everyone in the class? Or should I just blend in and probably not talk to those kids anyway? I know that making this crossword puzzle won't give me the "path to popularity" but I don't care about being popular I have friends in other classes and outside of school but just for a little joke, I really would like to make this. This is MY AMBITION, to make this goofy crossword puzzle for extra credit, but what do you guys think of the idea? Do other people like this, or am I just a madman? moreResolved Question: Would you call my teacher weird?
Teacher #1: -I had her last year in sixth grade. -Let's call her Mrs. H. -She was my homeroom and American Nation (history) teacher. -She babied these three girls and it got so annoying. **^ One time, my best friend and I were copying off of each other(yeah, i know, it's wrong, but that's not the point) on a crossword puzzle (our reading homework) because we couldn't get all of the answers, and she yelled at us. ... but then, about a week later, one of the girls that she babied was copying (math homework) off of another girl that she babied, and Mrs. H just said, "Are you cheating?" in a voice as if she were joking and the girl that she babied said, "No, I was just glancing at her paper." Mrs. H didn't even yell and just laughed about it. -Mrs. H had a girl bring a hair straightener to school so she could straighten the teacher's hair. She had the girl straighten her hair in front of the homeroom. -She always talked about her personal life about how she was in debt, what her husband did, how she bought a new Hummer, and always spoke her mind. -Somebody was playing with a toy they got for Easter, and Mrs. H said, "Crystal, put that away. If Mr. (principal's name) would walk by, he would think 'what the h3ll'" (She actually said the word.) -She gave us a 32 point test and let us use our book. -One time, she went over the exact answers to a test right before she gave it to us. -She told us not to say 'freaking' and 'retarded'. Then, a week later, her phone rang, and she ran as fast as she could, and tripped on a cord (LOL!!). She kept saying 'I look like a freaking retard.' over and over again. -She would always text message in homeroom. -She let the girls that she babied check tests (Mrs. H didn't even watch them.) -She said that one time, a couple years ago, she was handing out money to the kids if they got an answer right, and another teacher came in and told her that was illegal. (**Is it illegal to hand out money to students?) Mrs. H said that she was mad. -She probably did plenty of more things that I can't think of at the moment. ---So what do you think of this teacher? Teacher #2: -She was my music/chorus teacher. -She would flip out on everything. -One time we made her mad, and she said that she wanted to slit her throat. She told us that she was joking, though. -She said that she wants to kill people (but she was joking). Still, you shouldn't say this in school. -She always said 'suck.' -She said BS (bullsh!t) -She said BFD, which meant 'big f*ck!nG deal.' -She was best friends with Mrs. H. -She talked about her boobs. -She said that when she was in High School, people called her and her best friend lessbians. -She moved away to Tennessee this year (Thank God, and I live in Pennsylvania by the way.). I think that she got fired, but she said that she was moving there because of the money. -We were going to tell the principal last year on her, but she found out and then apologized to us (probably just because she didn't want to get fired.) ---So, what do you think of this teacher? **Do you have any crazy teachers like this?I know this is long, but still please read it! moreResolved Question: Need book ideas for a high school class book exchange? (novels, joke books, whatever. anything goes!)?
I'm a senior in high school and in our class we're doing a book exchange. Everyone will bring in a book wrapped in wrapping paper, and we'll hold a "Chinese auction" of sorts. I need ideas on what kind of book to give! It needs to appeal to just about any kind of high school kid, boy or girl, etc. I don't want Twilight or other super-common books, or really boring books or really long books (War and Peace? No thanks.) Other than that, anything goes--a classic favorite, a contemporary cheesy novel, or a book of crossword puzzles. Any ideas? I was thinking something funny like perhaps the Failblog book (Fail Nation) or something of that sort. I wanted to use the FML book but I don't think it's quite "school appropriate". moreResolved Question: johnny tremain crossword answers please!?

I have this project I have to do for my history class, and we need to create this children's book explaining the declaration of independence for a child. I was thinking of adding in some little children activities within the book for things like: - connect the dots to create a flag or an outline of the US, - create a crossword or a word search with things having to do with the declaration - a front page that says "This book belongs to ______", but instead it has a copy of the declaration of independence on it, so it would look like you signed the declaration - and possibly some pop ups What are some things I can add on for the cover, or some activities I could add in to make it look fun? What do kids look to in a kid's book? And how could I make a decent cover? Because I'm just using printer paper for the inside pages, and I was thinking of using a binder and just painting on it or adding glitter and strings and cottonballs and all that. Any ideas would be great! ThanksWell, the point of the assignment is just to explain what the declaration of independence is, not so much as going into too much detail and writing out a 4+ page mini book. All we're required to do is: - create a cover/title page, - write an introduction quickly explaining what the declaration is, who wrote it, why it was made, etc. - and to include 4 pages of excerpts/quotes from the declaration, and explaining what they mean so that a child would understand. However, seeing as I'm in a gate (somewhat advanced) class, I'm expected to do more than that to get a "good grade", which is why I'd like to add in some fun activities to make my work stand out a little more. But anyways, thanks for the suggestions :). moreResolved Question: Need some help on a crossword.?

Is this malpractice or something? PLEASE HELP?
My great aunt is 82 and she had a big cancerous lump in her jaw. She went to the hospital and got it cut out last week. In the process, they had to cut a nerve in her neck, so the left half of her face is paralysed (not sure if this has anything to do with it?). Before the operation, my aunt was perfectly sane, apart from she was suffering from depression after her husband's death last year, which she took Prozac for. Now, though, she suddenly has bad dementia. As soon as she woke up after the operation she was freaking out, saying all her children had died in a car accident (all of them are alive and well). For the last week she's been greiving for them, even though all her kids have visited her in hospital and tried to talk to her. She can't be upset about her face because she hasn't seen it yet. She's refusing (or just unable, we don't know) to eat or drink, so she's on a drip. A lot of the stuff she says doesn't make any sense, and she's no longer capable of doing jigsaws or crossword puzzles (which she was great at just ONE WEEK ago). The doctors are convinced it's dementia, and that she had it before the operation. They're accusing my gran, her sister, of neglecting her. But before the operation, evaluations both in hospital and also for an old people's home that PROVED she didn't have the slightest bit of dementia before last week. Now the doctors say she has quite advanced dementia, and it's not just shock from the operation or morphine. Could the surgery have caused her dementia? Is this the doctors' fault, or is it just a mystery? Please help, thank you moreResolved Question: Where can I find free online crossword puzzles for young teens?

Why even bother going to class if you aren't even going to take notes? I've had a class where a quarter of the kids never showed up, those who did show up either did crossword puzzles, suduko, their homework or else talk to their friend who happens to be taking the same class. Some bring laptops and go on Facebook or MSN. I just don't get. I find it extremely rude! And it is hard to try and ignore it when you can hear them talking or if they are sitting right in front of you. This happens not only in big lectures but small ones too. I know that there is nothing that can be done about it. I just expect more from college students. I mean, we are considered adults, act like one! Show some respect! Does anyone else get annoyed with people who do this? If you do this too, why do you do it? Yes, lectures can be boring, but have you ever thought about how it would feel like if you were the one giving a lecture on a topic and people don't pay attention to you and they do it openly too.I understand that it's their money, so they can choose if they want to learn or not. All I am trying to say is that it is a bit distracting when they are doing it right infront of you.Sorry Adam, but I will have to disagree with you. I believe that there is always a few things that we can learn. I mean, growing up, Pluto was a planet, I am sure that we all knew that! But now it's not a planet. I know that despite not paying attention in class, some kids still do well. Also, even if you do know about the topic being lectured, you should at least respect the person giving the lecture. moreResolved Question: review my essay? All the thoughts of the last day ran through Theodor’s head as he woke up to the buzzing of his hated alarm clock at 7:00 A.M. Crawling out of bed he took a longtime needed shower half awake. Putting on his wrinkled and dirty clothes from the day before he started to feel the call of food from the fully stocked pantry in the kitchen.“Find the answer to the crossword puzzle” he read on the back of the almost empty box of Lucky Charms he was eating hurriedly. Out by the bus stop in the morning dew was the damp morning paper that he tossed up by the front door of his house. Boarding and finding his seat on the bus were the faces that Theodor has seen every day of the school year, yet has never taken the time meet. Getting off the bus, he saw a huddle of peers unsuccessfully trying to hide the marijuana that they later offered him. Theodore was pressured with Marijuana but knew what was best. Theodor thinking to himself and running through his mind were possibly the thoughts any teen would think. His conscience and pressure were causing a mental battle inside his mind. “It’s ok, I’ll prove my friends wrong a show them I’m not a sissy”. Yet, his loosing conscience told him to not do them and endure the consequences. On the outside of his body was the crawling skin of a pressured and accepting hand reaching for the joint. His hand, shuttering with the pressure of it all, grasped the joint and put to his lips and inhaled a clammy breath. Fear ran through his body thinking about what he was actually doing, which was soon shut out by the drug taking effect. The thoughts and fears soon scattered away like a roach in a spotlight. Theodor’s mind slowed to a lull while the joint was passed around the circle of friends. Oblivious to the world around him, slowly everything that was never given a second thought about is funny or weird. Looking around with twitching watery eyes that are starting to lose a grasp of where they are have finally had enough. The effects that happened to Theodor were not just mental, but physical too. The effects of Marijuana were more than enough to overpower the bowl of cereal he had earlier that morning and was making the circle of friends want to get something to eat. Thirst also played a trick on them which usually does when pot is smoked. Not only did it get him high, but lifelong consequences that Theodor will have to face came along with his bad decision. The thoughts that did not cross the teens mind might have swayed him otherwise. The thoughts of one day, when having to tell his future kids that he had fallen into peer pressure and smoked pot were saddening to him. Destroying a future did not cross his mind or his friends on that day, nor the thought of having to explain to his teachers and parents what he was doing. The future Theodor would have had was squelched with each joint he couldn’t wait for. Wanting more, Theodor hung out with the wrong crowd just for his next fix. Being around the wrong crowd was a window of opportunity for him to explore more types of drugs and get even more hooked on them. Suddenly, Theodor woke up in a cold sweat to his alarm clock telling him to get ready for school. Hurriedly, he ate banana and cheerios and rushed to the bus stop. He saw a group of friends at school that he denied when they offered him Marijuana telling them the consequences of their actions. Theodor, making the right choice was able to make it through school and become a successful business man. I have a feeling that I will end up being hospitalized again soon and I was wanting to know some fun things to do while be stuck in the hospital bed. I didn't get answers the last time, so I'm reposting. I got online and printed out Sudoku, crossword, and other puzzles. Even went as far as printing coloring pages. I am even bringing an iPod. I am not into reading books, watching much tv, won't be eager to talk on the phone, I'll have no use of a laptop, and I don't want to go out and buy expensive entertainment. Keep in mind, I have kids so I will not have any visitors since my hubby will be with the kids so cards and 2 people activities are out. Also I do not knit or do any crafty stuff. Are there any word games I could write, paper activities, or anything else fun I may have missed I could print free on the internet? Please leave serious answers. Not just "I don't know" or "Sleep alot". I will be in alot of pain while I'm there and just want some entertainment. Thanks moreResolved Question: Fun things to do while in hospital stuck in the bed?

I swear my grandparents can stay up later than I can. Last night...... Okay, it was about 11:30, and my grandparents FINALLY went to bed. Yes!! I was free to watch something other than the news or the History Channel. Okay....12:07-----They come back in the living room........ My grandpa goes in the kitchen & starts a pot of coffee!!! And my grandma sits on the couch and starts doing a crossword, and asks me "So, what did we miss?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Then here comes my grandpa out of the kitchen, coffee in one hand, honey bun in the other. And changes the channel----of course----to the History Channel. They did not go back to their room until 1:48. I'm not even kidding. Shouldn't old people be in bed by like 8:00? Any explanation or weirder story than that???Ok, just to clear a few things up that were noted in some peoples responses....I am sorry that I made it sound like I was ticked off at my grandparents. I Love them both to death!!!! They are my role models. I just thought it was a funny little quirk, yes sometimes irritating, but I definitely appreciate them. They have helped me through some serious issues, especially lately. Sorry that it got taken the wrong way. moreTop Crosswords Kids Links
