Resolved Question: English Project on Old man and The Sea?
Hi!, I have an english project on old man and the sea where i have to read the book and make a magazine entirely about the book. I cant write things like a book review for the book, but i can write articles about like the old man catching a big fish or a crossword puzzle. I'm not looking for people to do my homework for me because that would be so wrong, but i am looking for ideas on what to put in my magazine. For example, it can have a "dear abby" section using one of the characters from my story. It has to be 5 pages and i'm having a very hard time. Any ideas? moreResolved Question: anyone good at crosswords?
I just asked about the meaning of stratified with seven letters and got advised layered was the correct answer which means my existing answer for my other question is wrong. This is a crossword clue from one of the uk,s competitions magazines. The clue is, "Desert waterholes". Now i had "Oasis", nut if the yahoo people are correct and layered is the answer to my other question then "Oasis" must be wrong. I have searched on the net for another name for desert waterholes other than Oasis but can find none. So it is "Desert waterholes", 5 letters, O##E# (if layered is correct) I challenge any of you to help me find correct answer moreResolved Question: Who is a leading "enigmatologist" (10-letter phrase/name)? 10 points?
the world's only academically accredited enigmatologist, __________, born on an Arabian horse farm in Crawfordsville, Indiana (1952). He's the current crossword editor of The New York Times, the puzzle master of NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday, and the author or editor of dozens of books. He sold his first puzzle to a magazine when he was 14 years old, and within a couple years, he was a regular contributor to puzzle publications. In college, he designed his own degree program in enigmatology, which he describes: 'Literally, it's the study of riddles, but at Indiana I defined it as the study of puzzles.' He drew himself up an undergraduate curriculum of classes in English, math, philosophy, journalism, and linguistics, and wrote a thesis on the history of American word puzzles before 1860. He went to law school, thinking he'd work for 10 years and earn a bunch of money so that he could pursue his avocation of puzzlemaking. But after graduating from law school, he skipped out on taking the bar exam and went straight into enigmatology, earning a living by creating puzzles for publications like Penny Press and Games magazines. In 1993, he became the crossword puzzle editor for The New York Times, only the fourth person to hold that position in the newspaper's history. He has made some changes to the Times puzzle page in his 16 years of editorship: The crossword puzzles now have constructor bylines (before the contributors weren't acknowledged), and the puzzles contain more references to contemporary pop culture (stuff like rock and roll and what's on television). Puzzles also now have more tricks and ambiguities, he said. He has also 'increased the slope of difficult further,' as he claims, between the daily puzzles so that Mondays are slightly easier than before he took over -- while Friday and Saturday crosswords are even harder than they used to be. He said that the idea is 'to have something for everyone, both beginners and veterans.' His all-time favorite crossword clue is 'It might turn into a different story,' with the answer 'SPIRALSTAIRCASE.' His favorite crossword puzzle is the one that was printed on Election Day 1996, designed by Jeremiah Farrell. The puzzle had two different correct solutions with the same set of clues. The clue whose answer formed one of the middle rows across read, 'Lead story in tomorrow's newspaper.' The answer seemed to be CLINTON ELECTED, but Jeremiah Farrell had carefully constructed ambiguity in all of the crossing clues, so that the answer to that middle-across clue could also be 'BOB DOLE ELECTED.' Either answer worked perfectly in the puzzle. The first downward crossing clue, for instance, was 'Black Halloween animal.' Either 'bat' or 'cat' would be correct, with the C for the start of CLINTON or the B for the start of BOB DOLE. Will Shortz later said, 'It was the most amazing crossword I've ever seen. As soon as it appeared, my telephone started ringing. Most people said, 'How dare you presume that Clinton will win!' And the people who filled in BOB DOLE thought we'd made a whopper of a mistake!' More than 30 years ago (in 1978), he founded the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, an event he still directs. __________ and the Tournament were the subjects of a 2006 documentary by Patrick Creadon, called Wordplay. The film also featured a string of prominent puzzle-solvers, like Bill Clinton, Ken Burns, Jon Stewart, and the Indigo Girls. When asked why people are so drawn to puzzles, he once said, 'We're faced with puzzles every day in life. What's the fastest way to run some errands? What's the lowest price we can get on home repair? Most problems we're faced with, we just do the best we can -- we muddle through. We never know if it's the best solution or not. With a human-made puzzle, when you answer the challenge, you know you have a perfect solution. It's satisfying.' moreResolved Question: leader & a common person must receive treatment of laws. so is equity for we the people, it is not happenning?

Ok So I'm writing a story and this is what i have so far. Please can you point out the good And bad points and how I can improve. Thanks! My acrylic nails tapped nervously on an old copy of Cosmopolitan. I checked the big, silver clock above the reception-nine thirty three. I told myself that I wouldn’t be kept waiting much longer (my appointment time had been nine and I think I’d flicked through every magazine in the waiting room). I’d always hated the doctors and tried to avoid it as much as possible but this time was different. This wasn’t just a case of the sniffles, this was my life hanging in the balance. Sat on one of the grey, plastic chairs I certainly felt out of place. The majority of people there were either pensioners that I imagined paid a weekly trip to their GP or mums with children. I was a twenty two year old business woman with a gorgeous flat on the marina and an Audi TT also known as the love of my life. I’d worked my socks off after I’d finished my A Levels, choosing to start off as an office assistant in a large advertising company rather than go to University. Four years down the line and I had worked my way up from filing invoices to the head of the cosmetic department with a team of people that worked for me and a spacious office with a fantastic view of Topshop. My best friend and flatmate Joe was forever telling me I needed to let my hair down more often but the thing was I loved my life just how it was. Of course I enjoyed the occasional nights I went out and got completely rat assed, I just also found satisfaction from getting my head down on a new deal. I tottered over to the reception desk in my Jimmy Choo’s where a short, chubby middle aged woman with glasses to rival Deirdre from Corrie smiled at me. “Sorry, do you know when I’m going to be seen? Only I’ve got to get back to my job…” I began impatiently. I knew it wasn’t her fault but I’d done enough crosswords that morning to last me a lifetime. The receptionist waddled over to the computer, “Name?” “Tammy Evans-I was supposed to be seeing Doctor Khan almost an hour ago.” It was bad enough that I was a bag of nerves, the waiting was agonising. She tapped on the ancient keyboard slowly, as if trying to piss me off. After a few minutes I got a response, “Ah yes…The doctor shouldn’t be long.” I decided to visit the ladies to freshen up. Even though I’d only applied my make-up before leaving the flat I could feel my foundation melting under the pressure. I wiped the counter with a piece of tissue paper before placing my D & G bag down and took out my make-up bag. As I brushed my cheekbones lightly with bronzer I tried to stop myself from shaking. This was stupid, I was a grown woman. I heard my name being called over the loudspeaker and knew it was time. I paced up the corridor until I came to the tacky yellow door that lead to answers. Knocking, I entered and took a seat opposite to the doctor. He looked at me in the eyes as I greeted him. “Miss Evans…I asked for you to come back because I have some news for you in the form of results. Let’s just say you can stop taking those antibiotics I gave you as it definitely isn’t a water infection!” I swallowed hard and crossed my legs, “Well? What is it then?” “You are pregnant Miss Evans. Congratulations!” My heart sank as I took in the crazy words I was hearing but in reality I already knew. I’d been needing the toilet a lot more frequently and throwing up in the middle of GMTV most mornings. May periods had always been abnormal so I didn’t necessarily panic when I didn’t come on for two months running, it just felt different. When I’d first visited the doctor the previous week he had prescribed tablets for a simple infection and now I was bloody expecting. Me of all people, the least maternal person I knew. Shit. moreResolved Question: I need help with 4th grade homework/crossword puzzle?
My son is required to complete a crossword puzzle listed in the Missouri Studies Weekly magazine. Thanks in advance!Civilization works as the answer to the second one. I'm just curious as to why people seem to think this is "legitimate" to do with the Bible? I ask this, because I'm really tired of seeing it in magazines and such. Many of which supposedly say that the "Bible codes" predict some disaster to happen on x date. This is not the same as prophesy. It's basically playing crossword puzzles with the text, from what I understand. I am Christian, but I don't see people's reasoning in this. The Bible itself says that there is no private interpretation of it. 2 Peter 1:20, "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation." Thus meaning that there is no 'secret meaning' of the things stated, unless it is a parable. Even with those, the Bible explains a lot of the parables and their meanings. The Library of Congrees and everything else probably has 'codes' too, if you look hard enough. Oh yeah, this is NOT a question for people to debate whether they "think God exists" or all of that.I was kind of hoping that some of the people who believe in these "codes" could shed a little more light on as to why they do so. But I see a lot of odd things...people mixing "Bible codes" with "Mayan foretelling of 2012" and all kinds of weird nonsense that just doesn't have any basis that I see. Anyone? And pardon the spelling errors on "Congress" and whatever else I misspelled. Multi-tasking. :-D moreResolved Question: This is a sunday people Magazine crossword clue taking advantage of a weak point 5 and 6 ?l?n? s??i?g?

You were so close! You and this conflation of speech and money. While you may be in line with the current courts, as someone obsessed with original intent, do you really believe that the founding fathers defined speech in such a way that would dis-proportionally award more speech (and therefore influence) to some and not others? Isn’t speech the very quality that a person has idependant of status and money? In the fusion of democracy and capitalism that currently defines American life, speech is the only freedom left that transcends class, but when you say that money is speech, then you disenfranchize all those without it – surely not an original intent.
