Voting Question: What things should I sell at my garage sale?
In my room, I have a bunch of random things from little collections that I had when I was little (Backstreet Boys, Egyptian things, etc.) These things have been sitting in my room for awhile, and I don't look at them ever. I was thinking whether or not I would display these things in my house when the time comes, but I don't think I would (or I actually would and just cram in some random place adding clutter). My problem is attachment =] Half of these things I don't want to get rid of because I remember collecting them, but if I think about it, I haven't paid attention to these things for YEARS. I want to declutter, but it's hard to let things go! So basically, what are some good guide lines to follow to get rid of things to sell (and to get over the "memories" hahahaha)? Thank you =]You, my friend, are a first class A. Hole. moreResolved Question: How/where do I start in in turning my home into an oasis? Need advice on decluttering/cleaning.?
I'm sitting here googling "declutter where to start" because I'm so overwhelmed! I want to turn my home into an oasis, but I can't seem to make headway. Years ago when I was single, I decluttered my whole house in one week, got rid of about 44 giant trash bags of stuff. I want to do this again, but it's frustrating because now that I'm married I can't go on the declutter rampage that I want to do! Every time I try I end up with another box for my husband to go through and then piles start accumulating all over the house again. I'm thinking about getting one room "perfect" and then going from there, but that will require paint and buying a rug. Any advice on where to start, what to do to get started on this task would be appreciated! Thanks, Kerry moreResolved Question: If people have clutter in their home, does it look terrible?
I'm always embarrassed because I seem to have clutter in the house. I have a 9 yr old daughter who's into crafts, plush toys, etc. and they're all over the apartment. Then I see people who have no clutter whatsoever and the house looks like a show home. Is it possible to have that type of environment when you have children? I feel like a failure in that aspect because as much as I try to organize or declutter, it just comes back to haunt me. moreResolved Question: My mom wont declutter or clean her house?
And my baby and I have to stay here for a week before my husband can come get us and take us back home 400 miles away. I cleaned the floors as much as possible but there is just so much STUFF! And they don't need it, don't use it but are either too lazy or unwilling to clean it up and throw it out. She will not get help to clean it and has all day every day to clean but she doesn't. The only thing wrong with her is arthritis and I've tried to clean it before but she gets really mad at me when I even bring it up. It's seriously not right for anyone to live in-- let alone my baby but I don't have a choice. Any advice? moreResolved Question: What are the main things you look for when buying a house? Your pet peeves etc?
I'm fixing up our house to sell it and trying to declutter. I already have a realtor. I'm curious what other people mainly look for when buying a house. For Example: I like lots of light coming in the windows..I hate living in dark places and I hate it when the sink is on the very end of a counter and there isn't room on both sides dishes. What do you like/dislike?I meant 'for' dishes..oops. moreResolved Question: How can I convince my parents to let me spend a week alone at our lake house?
I live in a very fast-paced city and have a demanding, stressful schedule, and I have a really strong desire to spend a week of my winter break up alone at our lake house in the mountains just writing, painting, and chilling. I've been inspired by Walden Pond and want solitary time in nature to reflect. I would send them a text or email every day just to let them know I'm fine, but would spend the rest of the time without the internet or TV and just declutter my brain. The house is only like a three hour drive from my house, and I'm familiar with the route, but haven't driven it before just because it's slightly winding and they're paranoid about me getting into an accident. I'd go up during the daylight before it gets snowy, and go to the store and get everything I need for the week, then not drive again. I wouldn't have anyone over. The house has a high-tech alarm system so nobody could break in. I have a health condition, but I can manage it myself for a week, and one of our neighbors up there is a retired oncologist who knows us well, so if I truly needed help I could go to him. There are medical facilities up there. It's close to a ski resort so they have all the things you'd need. I'm 17, and will be 18 next spring. Do you think this is an unreasonable request? I mean, we have the house and it's just sitting there empty so why not use it? How can I talk them into agreeing to this? I really need to go, so helpful answers would be appreciated.CC - I don't spook easily. I don't think it snows that frequently in the mid-morning, and the roads are maintained. Yeah, our house is slightly more plush than Thoreau's! :) moreResolved Question: cleaning a cluttered house!?
I dunno what to do anymore.. we are clean the house is clean. its just little spots of clutter.... most of it is putting things outta my sons reach. so those areas look all cluttered. and we have tons of papers. to be shredded just dont have a shredder.we have boxes in the closet with some of the stuff that we have like sentimental and stuff. even that is getting all messy.what are some tips to declutter, it is all getting on my nerves. moreResolved Question: How to de-clutter and prevent hoarding and bring myself to through things out?
I wouldn't consider myself OCD for hoarding as I don't have an awful lot of possesions. I have a tidy room and a bit of stuff in my closet and a few boxes in the garage, not a crazy messy house spilling with stuff if thats what one pictures of a hoarder(not too anxious about it too),but I am trying to declutter my life and need a little help here!I have in the past kept things because I think I will need them in the future habit from my mom i think, now I am trying to be ruthless because I want simplicity and space and organisation, should I throw away old school work papers/books too? moreResolved Question: How can I get my wife to declutter our house from all of her stuff?

I just feel like my house has way too much clutter, but when I look at the whole big picture I get discouraged so I don't do anything. I need to figure out how to get rid of the junk/clutter room by room? Also do you have any organization tips, since we don't have a lot of closet space, etc? moreResolved Question: how can i organize and declutter my home and sort things out effectively?
hi everyone~ok i have been ignoring the clutter and disorganization that i live in,i am trying to make a start, but when i do nothing seems to change, any efective ideas advice or motivation much appreciated. i live in an old house which is my parents that needs so much repair,so itend to have clothes in suitcases, and piles of stuff everywhere,i am going to sort out the clothes by getting them done in the laundrete because im so overwhelmed with stuff even when they come back they have no place,i am on a limited income and cant completely fix up the house and remodel it,any cheap ideas, another big clutter problem is piles of magazines and newspapers i keep them for reference as i am interested in the beauty industry,i have no place to store them,i just cant cope with everything i have piles of bags with stuff and no where to put them i got in a bad rut,i also have stuff belong to my parents that i cant throw out as they are sentimental but they are adding to the clutter,if anyone has any thoughts on how i can tackle or get out of this please thank you moreResolved Question: How to live on less, save more money?
This might be helpful. This is for those who are trying to get through the reccession. To do this on a long term basis, decrease all unnessecary expenses. Instead of driving, carpool, walk, ride a bicycle or take public transportation. (1)Take a look around your house or apartment. Go through every room and get rid of the things you don't need. Your stress levels will plummet as you enter into clutter free rooms for the first time. Declutter! Sell all of your unwanted items to a thrift store (You keep landfills free of rubbish and you save more money). By selling your unwanted items to thrift stores, it aslso helps those businesses get revenue. Keep them to the the essentials (You need food, water and shelter to survive). (2)Closets:Clear out all of your closets. Ten outfits of clothing is plenty for one person. Sell all unused clothing to a thrift store (as well as closet hangers). It saves space and time for packing if you are planning to travel. (3)Food. Buy food in bulk. It lasts longer, you save more money and you lose weight without even thinking of going on a diet. Avoid grocery stores (they are too pricey). (4)Repair and maintenance. Repair your clothing by sewing. Have your purses repaired too. (5)Shopping. Buy all clothing at a used clothing store (Department stores charge more). (6)Internet. Use the Internet at a public library instead of at home. (7)Suitcases:Replace them with backpacks (You travel lighter and it saves you more time, money and effort). By doing so, you save a lot of time, money, effort and space. Your stress levels will plummet and you have a clearer head and more freedom (more quality time to spend with friends and family). Having less is better. Trying doing this on a long term basis. Here is one more suggestion: By spending less, put all money in your bank accounts to pay off all expenses (bills, debt etc). moreResolved Question: How do I declutter my house before moving?

I need to streamline my house a bit. It's amazing how much stuff a family can accumulate, we've lived here since 1981, and have recently become 'empty-nesters'. I'd love to learn about how other people have 'decluttered'. moreVoting Question: What to do about shopping bags?
Every time I get home from shopping I just leave the bags full of the stuff I just bought on the floor and it adds to the clutter. I'm going to declutter my house but I'm not sure what to do about all the clutter I get from just going shopping. I use the things I buy but if I don't need what I bought right that minute, it will just sit there and take up room. So what should I do?? Usually what I buy I need like clothing and other things moreResolved Question: Suggestions to reduce stress in the home?
My wife and I have recently noticed the level of stress in our home has increased. Much of it is related to our jobs (my company is in Chp11 so job security is an issue, her company is having issues also). We have two children, ages 10 months and 3 1/2, they are an absolute blessing, but keeping up with them can be challenging. Our mornings are rushed, and our afternoons are rushed to figure out and prepare dinner, play with and get the little ones down for the night...then we are exhausted and feel like we are letting ourselves and our house get further and further behind. Any ideas or suggestions from others out there in similar situations? I have a small appartment, and it's very cluttered, and I want a new look. I can't paint because I rent, but what are some ways I can give my house a fresh look and declutter? moreResolved Question: Serious Question for the environmentalists...?
Okay in my area we have one of the largest landfills where 6 states, plus places in Canada send their household wastes. And this landfill is rapidly filling up. Of course, no one else wants a landfill in their back yard. Most of the junk in our home is not suitable to be donated, nor is it something that is recyclable or can be put into something else, nor is it a case where someone would want to buy these broken down items. A lot of these are things like old broken electronics equipment and various outdated technology and odds and ends, broken toys, old junk that really needs to be gotten rid of. So, short of keeping it in my house or burning it, or wasting a lot of gas to drive it to a center that takes things like this (no place within 2 hours drive from our home), what options do we have to de-junk and declutter our homes? It seems like we would have to toss these things in a landfill. moreResolved Question: What works for you? Decluttering... details?

I really need to start letting go. I have to move to a smaller house so it won't be practical to take everything with me. We are a childless couple and live in a small apartment. It's a 2 bedroom apartment with an open concept living room/dining room and a small kitchen. I study from home and my husband works from home, so we've managed to cram 2 computers in our place, and a whole bunch of my husband's other stuff. Since he started working from home, he had to empty his office and all of his office stuff came home. We've already filled up our storage locker, his office (that's the second bedroom) and there's even stuff in the living room. We don't know what to do. Ideally, we feel like we definitely need to move in a house, because once we have kids, we're going to have to. But, in the meantime, what should we do? I'm thinking maybe rent a public storage space, because I think we definitely need one. moreResolved Question: Are you surrounded by clutter?
What I'm really asking is, do you have too much "stuff?" I am starting to declutter again today and find myself overwhelmed with stuff. Stuff. In fact, from when we moved into this suite from the last suite I have 2 boxes of undisplayed ornaments. I don't mind having little ornaments and trinkets on a few surfaces, such as the top shelf of my desk. But ornaments and "stuff" (there we go again) are overtaking the apt. My dining table is covered with stuff. The funny thing is, I am a very organized person. Things are genreally where they should be, but I am no match for stuff. For the longest time I have only brung into this house what is needed, what we use. What I need to do is get rid of stuff. Share your tips! Anything! What do you do about stuff? How much can I actually put into storage?I've been to flylady numerous times, I'd say she's good for the beginner, but I need something, almost more drastic lol. i recycle what i can , but i'm looking round my house and think it needs a bit of a declutter anyone else like me lol ? moreResolved Question: Where do I start to declutter my house?
I have quite a bit of clutter in every room. This clutter is mostly paper. There are some boxes and there are some things that belong other places such as the things on the kitchen counters, the things on the dining room table etc. The carpet was removed last November and this caused the furniture to be removed and then replaced. It is not placed the way I plan to keep it; it is just in the house instead of outside. I have so much clutter that it is overwhelming. I start in one room decluttering, but I become overwhelmed because of the seeming lack of progress ( I know that there is some progress, but there is such clutter that I become overwhelmed and stop.) I have tried to take one room a week. I have decided to take my smallest room and then clean and declutter it, but there is so much there that this idea is not working.
