Resolved Question: How long did it take you to completely declutter your home?

Hi there, I'm on a bit of a journey. For as long as I can remember I've always had too much stuff. Its a trait passed on from my mom and from hers. I've been embracing the joy of purging and clearing out cupboards, but somehow it feels like there's never an end. Somedays I look around me and I feel overwhelmed. I'm sure there are folks that are far worse off then my husband and I are, in regards to our junk. But I find as I get older, I just want less stuff. How long of a journey is this going to be? How long did it take you to be rid of your 'stuff' and finally live better with less? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.  more

Resolved Question: How can I declutter my bedroom?

I'm a teenager, before I start. My bedroom, even when tidy, looks cluttered. When I've made the bed, vacuumed, still looks cluttered. I have a few things on my chest of drawers, a few on my desk, and a few on my windowsill, and people have said if I remove these things it'll look less cluttered. My shelves have minimal things on them, aside from one shelf which I'm cleaning out later. What should I do?  more

Resolved Question: Suggestions to reduce stress in the home?

My wife and I have recently noticed the level of stress in our home has increased. Much of it is related to our jobs (my company is in Chp11 so job security is an issue, her company is having issues also). We have two children, ages 10 months and 3 1/2, they are an absolute blessing, but keeping up with them can be challenging. Our mornings are rushed, and our afternoons are rushed to figure out and prepare dinner, play with and get the little ones down for the night...then we are exhausted and feel like we are letting ourselves and our house get further and further behind. Any ideas or suggestions from others out there in similar situations? Need ideas on how to better organize our time, declutter our home and lives, and learn to relax.  more

Voting Question: I want to get rid of some of my baby items...what should I get rid of?

My daughter is nine months old and starting to out grow some of her things so its time to pack some things up and get rid of others. I know that my husband and I want another child but I don't think I will even try to get pregnant again for another two years, What sort of things should I get rid of and what should I keep? So far all we are going to sell is the Baby Einstein bouncer because my daughter doesn't like it and she has a walker and an activity saucer. In a few months I'll be throwing away her bath tub, bottles and pacifiers. She has a swing, a pack-and-play, a floor activity mat, tons of clothes, etc. However most of it is all girl stuff and the only things that are gender neutral are her highchair, car seat and stroller which also concerns me if we have a boy next time. I just want to start to declutter because we have no storage space. What sort of things would be valuable to keep for our next child, what things can we do without? Thanks for any advice!!!!! For now, things will be stored in our garage (we live in California so the weather isn't extreme but there are black widows...YIKES!) and then eventually when she outgrows her crib we'll get a storage unit. If this helps....  more

Resolved Question: Should I sell the baby gym/playmat now too?

OK so I'm about to move house and trying to both declutter & raise funds for stuff we need by selling a lot on eBay. Things like the bumbo, the lindam door bouncer, a kick & play toy etc are all going. I'm in two minds as to whether to get rid of the baby einstein play gym - my son sits unaided but still uses this ocassionally, but I'm wondering by the time we move will he notice? I highly doubt it. He's 8mos now and we're moving in about a month. When did you stop using/ get rid of the play gym Thanks Lynne you're welcome to the bumbo - its a lilac one too!! I'm sure we can work out a way with good 'ole paypal x who knows if/when next time will be, I'd rather buy again if needed and clear space now, no position to hoarde!  more

Resolved Question: How can I help my family declutter our house?

We've got so many papers, antiques from my grandparents' house (after they moved to assisted living facilities), and just JUNK in general. I want to help clean but I never know what papers or documents are important, and I really don't want to throw out like a bill or something... We're trying to move all my grandparents' stuff downstairs to the basement, so that's slowly getting taken care of... But yeah. The problem right now isn't mopping or vacuuming-- the problem is getting rid of junk! Thanks for your help.  more

Resolved Question: Decluttering--how to "let go" of THINGS?

What do you tell yourself to 'let go' of things and not keep them just because they were you mothers or grandfathers (both long ago deceased) or one of your greatest friends (also deceased for a few yrs.). It's not like those are the only things or I'll really lose my memories. I have a bit of guilt when I let go. Some are just 'not me' and just 'dust collectors'. Maybe someone has some magic words, thoughts, a proverb that would help me let go and help me declutter. I would most certainly appreciate it!  more

I don't want the 8 year old to get sad, and I don't want my other relatives to feel hurt either....but I have too much clutter! David, I didn't say these were Christmas gifts... Resolved Question: Yahoo is running REALLY slow..?

For some reason every once in awhile(several times a week) yahoo slows down to a crawl. Pages refuse to load and the internet takes forever to log on users. I have broadband(or whatever the fastest is..) and this problem should NOT happen. It's not my computer since I regularly upkeep it(I run ani-virus/adware programs, declutter, defrag, and run the disk cleanup every week. I clean cookies and everything else via Ccleaner.) My point is that it's yahoo. I have done numerous speed tests to no avail(speed is always up to par). I have called customer service and have had several techs come out and check everything. I have just about had my fill...Yahoo may lose a customer very soon if a solution doesn't present itself in less then a month. Anyone else having this issue?  more

Resolved Question: How do I cut out the clutter?

I have a huge home and you would think with all the space it would make it easier to keep things organized. But with four children 3 of which are in elementary school (lots of papers hanging around) and one being a toddler, a husband who is a pack rat and myself trying to keep up with all of it is a huge task. Seriously i am at the point of getting a huge trash can and tossing anything no matter how important it is! I don't mind being the one doing all the housework considering i stay home and my husband works his ass off to support that decision. But now i am just overwhelmed with all the mess. I guess what i am looking for is any and all suggestions to try to declutter my home and find places for everything all while on a tight budget. It would be easy to just go and buy tons of organizers but honestly I've looked and that could get expensive. my trouble areas are kids rooms and laundry!  more

Resolved Question: How can I declutter my home and keep it tidy?

My husband & I started off in a tiny 1 bedroom flat. We were happy like that & figured we'd get a bigger place when I finished college & we were ready to start a family. But we had a contraception accident & we got pregnant earlier than planned. I had to give up college and now we have a beautiful baby but we are stuck in our tiny home with only one income. Everything is a big mess. We have no time, no energy, no space and even when I try to tidy up, there is no room to put anything. There are 3 of us in a tiny place that was meant for only one person. The place is a wreck. We need all our stuff but there is nowhere to put it and we can't find anywhere else till I have a job and we have 2 incomes. That's 3 years away and it seems like we're wasting our sons early years in this mess. I see families on tv where the child has his own little bedroom and it all looks so beautiful and it makes me cry to think we can't give that to our son. We have his cot and our bed and clothes and toys and everything in one room and it just looks like one big mess. I don't know where to start - even when I try to clean up, there is nowhere to put anything anyway! :(  more

Resolved Question: advice; moving in 11 weeks?

any tidbits on moving this far out. I will be gone two weekends between now and then. I have not moved in 22 years however I am organized and declutter all the time. I don't have anywhere to put the packed boxes short of piling up my house. How much should I do now? I would like to pack boxes according to the rooms I am putting them in and then have a color chart for each box to where everyone knows where to put them. I also think I am going to move my kitchen the week before so I can have a pot of chili waiting for those moving us. I don't want to wait too long however I don't want to be rushed or stressed either. Thoughts? TIA  more
