Resolved Question: Is this true about compressor replacement and seer ratings?

I just called a company to ask about replacing my compressor. I believe I have a split system. While I haven't had any major problems, it is 10 years old and is very loud. The existing system runs on R22 refrigerant, and after this year you'll be unable to purchase new compressors that run on R22. I've that R22 and the new R410 systems aren't compatible, so if I need to replace my compressor, I'll have to replace the entire heating and cooling system. In addition, I'm hoping that a new compressor will be quieter. So my thought is to strike while the iron is hot. So I called a company and they quoted me an approximate price based on my square footage. Great. Then I told them I had a Lennox system, and I wanted to be sure that they sold that brand. They said it doesn't matter what brand my new compressor is. I've always heard that you should install the same brand for compatibility. They said that they would be installing a Copeland compressor, a brand I've never heard of before. I then asked what the Seer rating is of the Copeland and I was told that it really didn't matter, because the Seer rating doesn't pertain to the compressor. Is all this true? more

Resolved Question: How do I know if I have a bad Compressor on my AC condensing unit?

I have removed a complete 8yr old Ruud HVAC system from one house and re-installed it in another house of the same size. I did all the work myself except for hooking up the new line set and charging the system. The unit worked perfectly when removed from the old house and now the installer is telling me I have a bad compressor. He is basing this off of the compressor heating up and shutting down and the temp not rising above 20 deg. The compressor is also now making a funny sound when it shuts off, almost like a helicopter or something. He is recommending replacing the unit. Any advise? Should I replace the compressor or replace the entire unit? Could moving the unit have caused the compressor to fail? Could I have a problem with the drier on the unit? The unit was left charged and sealed for the move and is a Ruud with a copeland compressor. more

Copeland said he regretted going chest-to-chest with McCauley, but wasn't about to apologize for trying to score a rare basket. "I wanted to score just like anybody -- if you haven't played, you want to score," Copeland said. "I guess he was frustrated too. He fouled me hard. Nobody wants to get beat like they did. I was just about to try to score and he just took me out. ... I definitely regret doing it. I made a bad mistake. It was on my part. I should've just walked away and shot my free throws." The senior forward was just 1-for-4 from the field for the season while playing a total 11 minutes in five games as he comes back from a serious knee injury. He tore a ligament in his right knee while playing a pickup game last May. "They weren't going to give us a free layup," Tar Heels forward Danny Green said. Resolved Question: having problems with a compressor contactor fusing together evert 2 weeks. no voltage drop across contact poin

a new compressor replacement occured a few weeks ago and every two weeks the contactor fuses together on 2 of the three leggs causing the compressor to shut down on internal overloads. 208/230 vot 3 phase power. each leg read 120 to 124 volts to ground.no voltage drop on contact point from line to load. 40 amp contactor with compressor running at about 12 to 13 amps per leg. watched it cycle on and off. everytime threr unable to find anything wrong. copeland requirements is max of 30degrees super heat at compressor or less. getting about 28 degrees. this is second compessor in 2 months. its like clock work every 12 to 14 days contactor melts together. Could there be a voltage drop to the main panel from power grid at night causing higer amp draw. all wire connections are tight back to & including the breaker. a/c unit is in the same panel and it is only happening to the walkin cooler condenser more
