Hi i'm 18 years old and have taken a year out of education and i start back in september 09. I've always wanted to go to New York and now i think is the perfect time. I lIve in London so i know that things will work out cheaper for me because of the currency dfference between the pound and the dollar. I was considering going with friends but for the most part all my friends are all broke or don't really want to go, and pretty much my only friend who isn't broke and lives in Florida is heavily pregnant so that would seriously hold me back. So i figured i'd go by myself and found some good flights. Is it wise or safe to go to NY by yourself? I do have family in New Jersey but i was only planning to visit maybe, i don't really want to stay in somebody elses house. Also do you think it would get really lonely? i was thinking i'd leave mid november and come back the beginning of December because i'd spend Thanksgiving with my family and i'd still be around to shop on Black Friday. Also i heard that it would be cheaper to stay in a hotel in New Jersey and take the train into new york. Is It Far. Or Could i just stay somewhere like Brooklyn, are the hotels cheap there? please rate 1-5 *5 being best* And also, if you wouldn't mind putting in some helpful advise that would be welcomed COLD BLOODED KILLER As the bullet shot out of the barrel, a body covered in blood hit the ground with a dull thud. People started to gather around, I bolted through the crowd “DAD!” my voice broke as I yelled and pushed strangers out of my way “Dad!” I was 10 years old when my father was shot and killed. Hello, my name is Jack Collar, I am a senior in high school. I’m not what you call average, unless you think having a 3rd degree black belt and a gun license is average. I live in an apartment in Michigan, Detroit. I have been hunting down a man named Bobby Deep for 8 years. This is the man who killed my best friend, my father. Now I’m going to find him, and return the favor. I’ve been tracking his every step since he killed my father and it is clear… he’s a cold blooded killer. We lived in New York City when my fathers was shot, after that he made his way across the U.S, all the way to California, so that’s where I’m heading. It took three days by plane to get there; weather delayed the flight plan, causing a layover, finally the plane landed in L.A. “I know he’s in Southern California”, I said to myself. Now I have to keep my eyes peeled. “he has to be here somewhere” I spoke again “let’s see, he has short brown hair, brown eyes, he looks like he needs to shave, has a crooked nose as if it was broken, a scar near his left eye, and about 6’7” I stayed in a cheap motel for three weeks. I was about to give up, thinking he had moved already, but then I heard it… a gun shot! I jumped out of bed, put a shirt on and grabbed my .44, ran out the door, slamming it so hard it almost shattered the windows. I ran in the direction of the sound of that shot. Then I saw the river of blood. “Another innocent person, dead” I whispered to myself. I stepped back and saw some footprint. “Found you” I said. I followed the prints until I could hear him running for dear life, then I could see him. His short brown hair wasn’t as short as it used to be, and he was still huge. He knew I was chasing him. He kept dodging in and out of alley ways “mistake, not that one.” I thought to myself “and now you are trapped, that one is a dead end.” I snickered “Please don’t kill me I have a wife and 2 kids” he pleaded. “Yeah, well did you give mercy to my father?” “I’m sorry man, please don’t kill me” “…I’m sorry, I’M SORRY, Is that the best you can do, you killed my father, my best friend!” I yelled. he is 14 and this is just the beginning of his story. moreResolved Question: Anybody knows where I can get cheap flights from New York to Buenos Aires? By SARAH LYALL Published: August 23, 2008 MALIA, Greece — Even in a sea of tourists, it is easy to spot the Britons here on the northeast coast of Crete, and not just from the telltale pallor of their sun-deprived northern skin. Phil Harris/Mirrorpix An injured British tourist lay by a curb on a recent weekend after a fight in Malia, Greece. The New York Times British tourists have caused havoc at the Malia resort. They are the ones, the locals say, who are carousing, brawling and getting violently sick. They are the ones crowding into health clinics seeking morning-after pills and help for sexually transmitted diseases. They are the ones who seem to have one vacation plan: drinking themselves into oblivion. “They scream, they sing, they fall down, they take their clothes off, they cross-dress, they vomit,” Malia’s mayor, Konstantinos Lagoudakis, said in an interview. “It is only the British people — not the Germans or the French.” Malia is the latest and currently most notorious in a long list of European resorts full of young British tourists on packaged tours offering cheap alcohol and a license to behave badly. In Magaluf and Ibiza, Spain; in Ayia Napa, Cyprus; and in the Greek resorts of Faliraki, Kavos and Laganas as well as Malia, the story is the same: They come, they drink, they wreak havoc. “The government of Britain has to do something,” Mr. Lagoudakis said. “These people are giving a bad name to their country.” They are also hurting themselves in the process. A recent report published by the British Foreign Office, “British Behavior Abroad,” noted that in a 12-month period in 2006 and 2007, 602 Britons were hospitalized and 28 raped in Greece, and that 1,591 died in Spain and 2,032 were arrested there. The report did not distinguish between medical cases and arrests associated with drunkenness and those that had nothing to do with it. But it did say that “many arrests are due to behavior caused by excessive drinking.” So it would seem. Reports of scandalous incidents rumble on regularly here and elsewhere, helping to cement Britain’s reputation as the largest exporter of inebriated hooligans in Europe. Earlier this summer, flying home to Manchester from the Greek island of Kos, a pair of drunken women yelling “I need some fresh air” attacked the flight attendants with a vodka bottle and tried to wrestle the airplane’s emergency door open at 30,000 feet. The plane diverted hastily to Frankfurt, and the women were arrested. In Laganas, on the Greek island of Zakinthos, where a teenager from Sheffield died after a drinking binge this summer, more than a dozen British women were charged in July with prostitution after taking part, the authorities said, in an alfresco oral sex contest. More alarmingly, a 20-year-old British tourist partied with her sister and a friend into the early hours in Malia also in July, then returned to her hotel room and — although she had denied being pregnant — gave birth. Her companions say they returned later to find the baby dead; she has been charged with infanticide. And in Dubai, also this summer, a British man and woman who met during a drinking bout were arrested and charged with having sex on a beach, after repeatedly shouting abuse at a police officer who ordered them to stop. All of which leads to a natural question: Why? “I think that in their country, they are like prisoners and they want to feel free,” said Niki Pirovolaki, who works in a bakery on Malia’s main street and often encounters addled Britons heading back to their hotels — “if they can remember where they are staying,” she said. David Familton, a Briton who works in a club here, said that it was a question of emotional comfort. “It’s because of British culture — no one can relax, so they become inebriated to be the people they want to be,” he said. Worried about the increase in crimes and accidents afflicting drunken tourists, the British consulate in Athens has begun several campaigns, using posters, beach balls and coasters with snappy slogans, to encourage young visitors to drink responsibly. “When things do go wrong, they go wrong in quite a big way,” said Alison Beckett, the director of consular services. “What we’re trying to do here is reduce some of these avoidable accidents where they have so much to drink that they fall off balconies and are either killed or need huge operations.” What do you reckon? moreResolved Question: Cheap airfare to Orlando, FL (from Albany. I am hoping to get it done in 40 hours, 20 dual and 20 solo...and then taking my written exam down there. i am planning on doing all of that in about 3 weeks. then leaving at the end of august back up to connecticut i will have all of my requirements to get my private pilots certificate with logbook endorsement to take my checkride and oral exam, and my student pilot certificate and 3rd class medical. then i would go to westchester airport when i turn 17 in mid september and take my checkride and oral exam and get my private certificate. that is my plan as of now so i would appreciate it if any other pilots out there can comment on my decision making. thanks!! moreResolved Question: Can I take my private pilot oral and practical exam in a different state than where I did my training?
Basically I'm 16 and Im going to be doing all of my flight training and take my written exam at an airport in North Carolina. (mainly because it is alot cheaper than in New York) But during the time that I am there I will not be 17. So I am planning on going back to where I live in New York and taking my oral and practical exam there when I turn 17. I want to know if this is possible? I am trying to book a flight to vegas from oakland california using orbitz, priceline, cheaptickets, etc. and ALL the flights have atleast 1 stop, taking me clear out to New York, Utah, or Miami before hours of lay over and then BACK across the country to Vegas. This requires a full day (or more) of travel and the ticket price doesn't seem cheap enough to go through all of that.
