I need to go to the UK in May but the prices to get there are just outrageous, especially on the big carriers like American, British, Continental, etc. Even the prices on Tuesdays which are usually the cheapest days, the average price seems to be way over $450 per person. Apparently there's charter airlines that go between Canada and the UK for really low fares but I live too far from any major Canadian city to make it worthwhile to drive there. How much money would I need for roughly 2 months travel in the states. I plan to go NYC, Washington DC, New Orleans, Mississippi, Texas, LA, SanFran, SLC Utah and Chicago. I've calculated that I would need 4,000 British pounds as Hostels is roughly 600(cheap hostels)-900(the more expensive ones) and a 15segment rail card from Amtrack is roughly 300pounds. So 1000 for flight and Amtrack rail pass 1000 for hostels 1000 for food and local travel 1000for reserve and going out. Is that enough or am I being to hopeful? I have been looking at several different flight options, and one of the cheapest and most convenient is one from Brussels to Cancun, but this flight includes a stopover at Varadero (VRA) airport in Cuba. I have been told that as an American, the Cuban authorities would not stamp my passport if I asked them not to. I will return to USA from Mexico.
