i'm planning a trip to germany (munich to be specific) over spring break this year. i looked up costs a couple weeks ago and the prices were about $720, i've been checking the prices frequently since then and its remained around the same amount until a few days ago when it jumped a to around $820. i want to buy tickets when the fare is at its cheapest because money is tight. i have to book the flight through northwest airlines because of frequent flyer miles. i know that the cheapest prices are on their website and i know to do the +/- 3 days option when searching. i've heard that the cheapest time to buy is during the middle of the week but its still been expensive. any advice about what would be the best time to buy? any insider info i'm missing? ways to find promotions? btw, when i first looked at for flights, the $720 price had a star next to it saying it was a promotional price. the new $820 price doesn't have the star. i looked for other promotion on the website but couldn't find any. more

I realize that this is a bit questionable to some who are reading this. I am going on a 1 1/2 hours in a couple of days with no plane changes. My kitty has taken this flight with me several times and he has always gotten his own ticket, even though he is treated like any other personal carry on. On these trips, a current Vet certificate is required and they charged a fee of 50.00 each way. Though I didn't want to, I had made arrangements with my good friend to watch over Bogart during the 2 weeks I am planning to be away for the holidays due to finances.. However, I just found out that her plans have changed and she will not be in town to help me with kitty. I am new to this area and have no one else to ask. A neighbor would be a normal consideration, but my only one seems not to like people to much and is the type that calls the police for any little neighborhood disturbance. I called the airlines to check on making arrangements for him and have learned that their ticket fee has gone from $50.00 to $100.00 EACH WAY! This is more than my ticket cost and I got a seat. There is no way pssible I can afford this fare for him. Mind you, it's not that I just dont want to pay for a ticket or that I would be going over my budget if I did get one.. I honestly do not have the money. We bought our tickets months ago. Now, my husband's employer is behind in paying him and has not been able to make the payroll for the last two pay checks due and before that only paid him 1/2 of a third one, so we are missing almost two months of pay. (I know, I know, but that is a different story.) So with no other options, I was considering smuggling kitty on board. He is an excelllent flyer and never makes a peep or get very nervous during trips. We are flying on Allegiant Airlines and we fly on them 2-3 times a year. They don't seem to be "on the look out" for stowaways when we travel. Anyhow, If you consider all the $4.00 Cokes and $3.00 bags of pretzels we have bought from their mile high snack bar, as well as the fact that the kitty & carrier would be a good bit smaller and lighter than the carry on I would take in his place, it doesn't seem to bad ethically. Of course my other BIG concern is if I can get away with it. Does anyone else reading this have any experience, insight or suggestions. I was a Flight Attendant with American in the 1990's and back then they didn't gave us any instruction on a smuggled pet procedure. Any thoughts, insight or experience is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! Im leaving for marine corps boot camp in 13 days and most of the time my recruiter is completely up front with me but i don't know whats going on with my MOS. I signed contract for three MOS fields with no one solid answer to what ill be doing, is this common practice? Ive told former marines and they always look at me strange that i don't know what my MOS is. and the three fields aren't even directly related its meteorology, enlisted flight crew, and anti-air war fare. i don't think my recruiter is tryin to do me wrong but should they limit it down more b4 i go in? every former marine and even some current marines think im stupid when i say three MOS's as what im going in for. To Dan lol i know all about parris island i live less then ten miles from the base i can hear the rifle range in the morning i go to church less then 3 miles from it i have base acess and have been just about EVERYWHERE on that base even took a field trip thru my rotc unit and went down to the ranges on a carrer day. i know all about the weather and bugs but ive lived here my whole life and am a avid outdoors man none of it really bothers me, i think ill be ok with all the mind games cause i know DI's, the only thing im kinda hesistant of is the one person fucks up then everyone suffers train of thought. i understand where it comes from but i'm not looking foward to being punished for someone elses fuck ups more

Planning a weekend trip to Las Vegas in early February 2009. Got a great cheap deal for flights from Montana and 3 nights at an on-strip hotel for under $400 for two people. Neither of us are interested in gambling, we're coming to see the sights and a few shows. We'd like to see cirque du soleil and maybe one other show. Would also like to spend one day out at Hoover Dam/Grand Canyon. Trying to figure out if if it's better to book the trips ahead of time online, or wait until we get there and find discounted deals? Due to the time of year and the great deal we've already go on hotel/flights, I'm wondering what the odds are of anything being sold out? Also, how much is cab fare from the airport? Not sure if it's better to book a shuttle in advance for $14.50 per person.. Any other suggestions on what to do/see for non gamblers also appreciated! Free or for cost... Also, any suggestions for a good non-gambling bar/club to head to on Saturday evening? more

I have a return flight with Continental, I flew the outbount part of the flight, but am not gonna use the return flight and at this time I don't have any plans to reschedule the flight. i booked tickets from thai airways for delhi - bangkok- delhi. On reaching bangkok i went to macau for three days visit by airasia, as thai airways do not have any flight to macau. After reaching macau i heard in news that bangkok airport is closed due to protest. So i was not able to reach bangkok airport to catch my flight. So i went to hongkong and requested thai airways officials to kindly arrange a flight for me to fly back home. But they denied to help. Flying is, without doubt, extremely bad for the whole climate change situation. Me and my partner have been trying pretty hard to avoid flying. For example, we're arranging our holidays in the UK and she's going to Germany by car. However, there is a course we really want to do, which doesn't take place any closer to the UK than Switzerland. We've been looking into train fares, but they would cost us a small fortune. I know that offsetting the carbon emissions won't be the same as not flying in the first place, but I thought that in this case it might be worth looking into as an affordable alternative to train travel. However, I am utterly shocked by the online calculators I've been checking. They are saying that a flight to Switzerland can be offset by a payment of about £2.50. What a joke! How could £2.50 possibly achieve anything even remotely similar to undoing the damage of my share of a passenger flight? So now what can I do? I suppose I could just pay an amount of money to a worthwhile green company that I feel is fair. Can any of you suggest a carbon offset calculator that's actually realistic? Or do you have any other good suggestions? Message to Roger D and any other global warming deniers. Clearly you're not a climate scientist. If you were you wouldn't be chatting this nonsense. I recently booked a flight from Denver to Phoenix in february. Originally the price was 232.00 for the fare with taxes. I noticed recently the fare went down on their site. So i modified my reservation to have the same two flights but at 32.00 dollars cheaper. It not says that I have this credit on that booking reference. Turmoil in the Airline Industry Even before the September 11 terrorist attacks, the major airlines were flying into stiff head winds. Slim to nonexistent profits, bankruptcies and buckets of red ink, poor service, late arrivals, overexpansion, frequent air-traffic control breakdowns, some of the worst labor-management relations in business, high fuel costs, a full-blown economic downturn, and the collapse of business travel had cast this industry into one of the worst periods in aviation history. Road Warriors Get Smart For years, the major airlines had succeeded in getting business travelers (road warriors) to pay premium fares by pampering them with special business-class seats and other perks. Business travel was their lifeblood. Sales of unrestricted fares and last-minute tickets generated about two to three times as much as economy fares and contributed about 70 percent of a major airline?s revenue. But with corporate profits hitting the skids in late 2000, companies put the brakes on travel spending. The corporate exodus hit the major airlines hard. Resourceful business travelers used substitute products such as videoconferencing or other transportation modes ? even if it meant putting up with inconveniences ? to reduce travel expenses. Some turned to the Internet to find cheaper airfares. Others moved their business downstream to discount airlines such as Southwest and Jet Blue. Major airlines tried to raise round-trip leisure tickets to make up for their lost business revenues, but fierce competition from discounters prevented them from doing so. Air Travel is ?Wal-Marted? Just as Wal-Mart did in retailing, the discounters of the air such as Southwest and Jet Blue are squeezing the major airlines from all ends. Low-cost carriers now account for nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic air capacity, up from 6 percent in the early 1990?s. They can afford to sell travel tickets for less because they have many cost advantages over full-service rivals. To begin with, they have younger fleets, which require less maintenance, and younger labor forces that aren?t tied to complicated, inefficient labor contracts. Moreover, low-fare carriers typically fly one airplane model, thus minimizing maintenance, operating, and training costs. By contrast, big carriers typically fly six or seven types of aircraft. And unlike the big guys, the discount airlines don?t operate expensive hub-and-spoke systems. Caught Between a Hub and a Hard Place Using a hub-and-spoke route system, major airlines scoop up traffic from smaller cities (the spokes) and funnel it through a few gathering points (the hub). This practice allows airlines to serve small markets and offer passengers more destinations and more frequent flights. But is also presents a logistical nightmare. It forces major airlines to schedule lots of flights to arrive and depart within narrow windows of time in order to minimize passenger layover times. here's the deal, my mom purchased a non-refundable plane ticket for herself on spirit and accidentally purchased the $9 fare club membership (which is not refundable). Ironically, we checked the cost of the plane tickets with the membership and saw that it would be SUPER cheap if i went along with her. The catch is that she, being the member of the $9 fare club, has to be one of the travelers when we make ANY reservation. BUT she already has a ticket on that same flight. The weirdest thing happened - at first when I checked my account online it showed that the fare had been deducted from my checking. Hello. I am an inexperienced traveler, so maybe there is an obvious solution I am missing. For my next vacation (in about five weeks - I'm a late planner) I want to start in Europe, fly to California to visit people, fly to Florida to visit others, and then fly back to Europe. Ideally I would buy one-way tickets for each of these steps. But then I saw how one way tickets are about *twice* the price of the same leg of the trip when you buy round trip tickets. Does anyone have any advice for how to get around this? Is it possible to buy a "three-way" ticket? Alternately, would it be possible on any airline to buy a round trip ticket, route my return trip through Florida, and delay the second stage of the round trip by a couple of days so that I have time to visit my friends?
