Voting Question: Need advice - how to "back off" and give him space? I know this question is long but i'm really confused!!!?

I met a guy on my last night of a two week holiday in Bali recently and slept with him that night before I flew out the next morning. Ever since that night we had been in almost constant contact via texts and/or phone calls and facebook, which include his siblings adding me on facebook AND his mum getting very excited in the background when she knows he is on the phone to me. I live in Sydney and he lives in Melbourne, and he has come up to Sydney twice in the past month to see me, and we have also planned for me to go down to Melbourne to see him over the Easter break. When he was in Sydney last Monday night (due to fly out on Tuesday morning) we went out for a few drinks and when we came home I ignored my common sense and asked him "Are you my boyfriend yet?", to which he replied that he thinks it is too soon, and that we don't really know each other that well yet and that he thinks we need more time. He also said that he didn't feel ready yet because of his break up with his ex girlfriend five months ago, and that it is still too "raw" for him to consider starting something with someone else. I told him that I understood (which I did) and that it was ok, and I apologised for being "silly" and that I knew I should have kept my mouth shut. I was so embarrassed. He said not to apologise because obviously it's something I have been thinking about and that at least now we know where the other stands. He also said that he really does like me alot and that he doesn't want to be with anyone else. He flew home on Tuesday morning and I think we did our best to ignore the previous night's conversation and enjoy our remaining time together. During the week I spoke to various girlfriends and work mates about what had happened, and of course I was offered every piece of advice under the sun. I was becoming very confused and somewhat scared at some of the anecdotes and theories that I was being offered, which were only exasperated by the fact that I could sense he was a little more distant that usual on the phone, plus there was some minor activity on his facebook page from his ex girlfriend. On top of this, I started to become quite angry about the fact that if he didn't want a relationship or for things to get too serious, what did the fact that he had come up to see me twice in a month, and have booked flights to go down there for Easter mean? And if you "really like me alot and don't want to be with anyone else" then what more do you need? Friday rolled around and I had purposely not msged him to try to give him space, but also hadn't heard from him all day either. I had a particularly bad day at work, and so ended up msging him anyway in the afternoon. Later that evening I was out for a friend's birthday dinner/drinks, and when I got home I called him and we ended up getting into quite a heated conversation about how I was feeling and how he was feeling. I can't quite remember the whole conversation because unfortunately I had had too much to drink, but I know that whatever I said was like karma coming back to bite me, and I totally freaked him out. I do remember getting angry at him and asking why the heck he was bothering getting involved with somebody else and travelling all this way to see me if he wasn't ready for anything and still not totally over his ex. The next day I had to work, but when I finshed I got home spoke to him about the night before, and he tried to fill in some of the gaps for me. But in the end when he explained to me his side of the matter I totally understood...it IS too soon for a relationship because when it comes down to it we don't actually know eachother that well, and even if we did become boyfriend and girlfriend it still wouldn't change the fact that we're 900 kms away from eachother. I do totally agree with him and feel/felt so foolish for being such a twat about the whole thing. We agreed to just try to keep floating along like usual and see where things go. Now it is Sunday night and we have just had a conversation (via text) because he still had some reservations about what was said on Friday night. I can do no more than apologise for whatever I said, and tell him that I agree with what his opinion his. He says he felt really "inundated" (I think the word he was probably looking for was 'overwhelmed') by what I said, and that its making him want to pump the breaks and that maybe I should back off abit. I said that I will pump the breaks but that my biggest worry is that if I back off then he will lose interest all together and the trail will go cold (for want of a better phrase). He said that the opposite is probably true but that we'll play it by ear and see where it goes. I apologised for messing things up, and he said that I haven't messed things up, they're just abit hazy at the moment. And so I left it at that. I have deleted my entire inbox and sent items on my phone, deleted his number and removed it from my recently called list. I know that sounds dra more

Resolved Question: Advise May for this law question.?

May booked a ticket with AirStar to fly her from New York to Melbourne on the 1st December 2009. The ticket was booked far in advance, paid for and the flight conformed. On 1st December, however the flight was cancelled and the airline was unable to give May an alternative flight on that day. Consequently, May was forced to put up a night in New York. The next afternoon, she flew to Melbourne on another airline. On reaching Melbourne, she found that she had lost a business opportunity which resulted in her losing a considerable sum of money because she arrived in Melbourne too late. Advise May more

Resolved Question: Is the Thailand word 'MALI',it means Jasmine flower,is derived from Tamil word 'MALLI'?

Malli is the jasmine flower worn on the head by Tamil Women.Same word in Thai language too. Malli is grown in large quantity in Tamil Nadu and airlifted to Singapore and Malaysia by daily flights and it reaches fresh. Baby Elephant Named in Melbourne This baby elephant is the first-ever born at the zoo here in Melbourne. And to come up with a fitting name, Victoria residents took part in a naming competition. And the winning name was “Mali,” the Thai word for jasmine. Today she was officially named during a Buddhist ceremony at the zoo. [Katie Pahlow, Zoo Spokesperson]: "Just as a demonstration of how much she's captured the hearts and minds of so many Victorians, we had 34,000 entries into the competition." Zookeepers say Mali is drinking around three and a half gallons of milk each day and is putting on about three to four pounds of weight. http://english.ntdtv.com/ntdtv_en/ns_offbeat/2010-02-25/658724654001.html more

Resolved Question: $150 for petrol Melbourne to Sydney?

I was offered a rideshare from CouchSurfing, and the guy said he drove down to Melbourne (Dandenong) from Sydney (city centre) and it cost him about $150 in fuel. Now I'm a little hesitant as, split between only two people, this is more than an economy flight! Am I being ripped off? Note: I know nothing about cars, including his car. I assume it's quite modern though. more

Voting Question: Is it a long distance relationship?

I met a guy around 3 months ago at a bar, I wasn't having fun and neither was he, and I wanted someone to walk home with so I asked him to. On the way back to my house we had a talk about lots of stuff, at the time I was pretty drunk so didn't think anything of it, certainly hadn't considered a one night stand for some reason even though I had randomly invited a guy from a bar back to my house. We got home, had both sobered up and it was slightly awkward, so just went to bed. Then we had the most amazing kissing session in the world, best Ive even had (no sex), he had to catch a flight back to melbourne at 6am in the morning, but before he left we discussed how we had clicked and exchanged numbers. Anyway, since that time we have been talking at least once a day on the phone (he calls me) and he flew down here to come visit me for a week - it was really good and we didnt get sick of each other the entire week, which is a big deal for me because i can be quite intolerant of most personalities. The phone conversations have continued, but we never discuss 'us'. He is not the sort of person to rush into anything, and I have a feeling that what we are doing is just seeing where this goes, getting to know each other over a long period of time before any decisions are made whether we are staying together or what. The problem is for me is that I am in love with him, I love everything about his personality as a friend and also sexually and physically and he lives in Melbourne (an hours flight away from where I live) and is going travelling to Europe in August for an indefinite period of time. I just dont quite understand the situation, its making me upset and I think about him all the time. If someone could make some sense of it that would be great, some advice on what you would do in this situation. more

Resolved Question: ABC - A Better Choice, is this property investment agency legitimate or is this a scam?

We have been called up by this agency and went to a free seminar all to do with purchasing investment properties, these properties were in Melbourne and we live in Adelaide. We had the man from the company come to our house and discuss with us about their company and how we can make money, he also offered flights and accommodation in Melbourne to go look at the properties. The company is called ABC (which stands for A Better Choice) I really would like to know if anyone else knows more about this company, or has had any first hand experience with them or something similar.... I would really like to know if this is legitimate or not (there is a lot of stories about fake or phony agencies that seem similar to this which scam people for money) Thank you in advance. more

Resolved Question: What's the best time (weatherwise) to go to Australia?

I'm considering a month long trip to Victoria, Australia (to a cattle ranch in that area, near Melbourne) and want to know what kind of weather to expect for let's say July or August? What's the best time weatherwise? Also, what about the poisonous stuff? Is it true that it's all over the place? Is there a time of year when those things aren't much of an issue? What else can you tell me about flights to Melbourne? What's the "best" airline to use? I'll have to fly economy, because I noticed that business class or first is like $5,000!!! Holy cow!! So....anything really, you can tell me about Australia, traveling there, would be awesome. I'll give you 10 points for the bst answer. Also,....can I just use my US passport to travel there? Or do I need to get something else? I'm not going to work there for money, but I am going to "work" in exchange for full room and board. But that's not working for money, so why would I need anything else? Thanks in advance for any info! more

Resolved Question: Can I fly to vietnam without a visa and apply for one on arrival?

I urgently need to travel to vietnam and won't be able to get a visa unless I book later flights. I'm wondering if I can get on a plane from melbourne to vietnam via malaysia without having to get a vietnamese tourist visa and then get one at the gate? I'm confused cause last year my grandpa was dying and our travel agent said we won't be able to board the plane without a visa and it meant our flight would be delayed at least 2 days because my parents passports were still being processed and in order to obtain a visa we would need to send our passports interstate to get them done. On the other hand, my girlfriends uncle in vietnam who works as a flight attendant said we can just bring all our papers and obtain a visa on arrival. Can someone clear this up for me? and I'm not talking about visa on arrival where you bring a letter with you to vietnam because they are on vacation for week ThxI mentioned that this isn't the same as visa on arrival with a letter. This is because they are going to be on holiday for a week starting today more

Resolved Question: How do I go from being an housewife to an MBA from a decent B-School?

I am 28yrs old, got married to wonderful person 3 months back, I have been making attempts to transition my career from airlines (I was a flight attendant for 1.3 yrs) by doing a couple of IT courses but the recession did not help and I had to relocate to India after my marriage so I been unemployed for a about 2 yrs now. I am VERY interested in getting an MBA from ISB [www.isb.edu] or similar school inorder to relaunch my career in a Business Analyst/Managerial role at a Technology firm. I have a 3.8 GPA in BSc. (Computing) from Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia - graduated in 2005. It took me 5 yrs to get a Bachelor's Degree that would have taken 3 because of US immigration application requirement. However I did do a 1 yr internship at Computers for youth [www.cfy.org], get nominated for IPDY. But mostly my work experience has been unrelated to my undergrad education - ranging from being a IT Recruiter to Flight Attendant to Loan Modification Specialist. So I am not sure if I have a shot at B-School or not. If I do, how do I shape up my B-School application and essays so that they take me/my application seriously and I have a chance of getting my life back on track?I'm not interested in Distance Learning or Online courses. I thrive on interaction and competition, so I'm looking into a one to two year traditional MBA program. more

Resolved Question: How Would These Lost People Survive?

I have been discussing the following story with my Mum and sisters this evening and we all came up with different ideas. What do you think? I really value others opinions. Donna On 31st January 2009 a group of year 11 students left with their teachers for a trip to Barbados to attend the World Youth Forum. The met at Tullamarine( Melbourne Australia) airport for the flight, and despite warnings of rough flying conditions, left on schedule. Eight hours from Melbourne, the plane was hit by freak conditions that destroyed its electrical system. All communication was lost, and with the tail fin torn from the chassis, they were flying off course. The pilot eventually ditched into the ocean. An inflatable life raft was activated, and the pilot, students, two teachers and a tour guide (Peter) scrambled aboard. They had no food or drink. The powerful currents of the Pacific Ocean pushed the raft another 100 kilometers off course until they landed on an uncharted island somewhere off the coast of Tahiti. As they dragged themselves up onto the beach, they were lost, dazed confused and very hungry. The Island was quite fertile with native fruits and berries, and bird life in abundance. The waters were teeming with fish and fresh water could be obtained from a waterhole. This group was destined to spend twelve weeks on the island before being rescued. Q1: How would they survive? Q2: Study the characteristics (Below) of the members of the group; Do you think they would live in harmony? The group consists of: MAX -28 yr old pilot/married/unbeknown to Max he is HIV positive. VICKI -22 yr old teacher/married/18 weeks pregnant/liked by most students. JOSHUA - 44 yr old geologist/unmarried/experienced hiker/homosexual. WALEED - 17 yr old student/class captain/strong academically/devout Muslim AMELIA - 16 yr old student/former girlfriend of Waleed/from a wealthy family. Resolved Question: How is life as an International Student in Melbourne?

Hey! I am a Brazilian, who grew up in the States, lived in Austria and is now studying in England. =) I have a pretty strong American accent, and I'm tired of moving around from place to place. I really want to find somewhere that I can truly call my home. I set a bunch of criteria for a city that I want to live in: safe, multicultural, warm, friendly and Melbourne seems to fit the ticket. But is it too good to be true? How is life in Melbourne. Is it a big enough city that things are always happening? I really want to get involved and do volunteer work and become part of the community. Does the job market have good prospects? And for internationals, how do you cope with living so far away from home? I checked the ticket to Brazil, and it costs $2000! And the flight is so long! Thanks! Daniel more

Resolved Question: Wanna hear a story that is extremely funny?

WALKING THE DOG A WOMAN was flying from Melbourne to Brisbane .. Unexpectedly, the plane was diverted to Sydney Along the way. The flight attendant explained that There would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted To get off the aircraft the plane would re-board In 50 minutes. Everybody got off the plane except one lady who was Blind. A man had noticed her as he walked by and Could tell the lady was blind because her Guide Dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of her Throughout the entire flight. He could also tell she had flown this very flight before Because the pilot approached her, and calling her by Name, said, 'Kathy, we are in Sydney for almost An hour. Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?' The blind lady replied, 'No thanks, but maybe Buddy would Like to stretch his legs.' Picture this: All the people in the gate area came to a complete standstill When they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane With a Guide dog! The pilot was even wearing sunglasses. People scattered. They not only tried to change planes, but they were trying to change airlines! True story.... Have a great day and remember... ..THINGS AREN'T ALWAYS AS THEY APPEAR. My daughter and I travelled on EK092 from Milan to Dubai on Monday 28th December and from Dubai to Melbourne on connecting flight EK406 on Tuesday 29th December. She was wearing a cream dress and a knitted vest. She is not smiling, has two big brown eyes and has two round ears. Maddy is of great sentimental value as my daughter has had her as a friend and comfort all her life. My daughter and I were sitting in rows 21 or 22 K and J on both flights. Resolved Question: Indirect long haul flight?

I am flying from Dublin to Melbourne, Australia. The flight was booked all as one flight but I first fly to Heathrow and then on to Kuala Lumpur, and from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne. I have been told by my boyfriend who has flown in this way before that I only need to check in at Dublin, not the other airports. I will not see my luggage until I land in Melbourne. And I will only need to use the boarding passes that I will be given in Dublin. Is this correct? Also do you have to go through security again at each airport and go to a different gate? Or do I just get off the plane and re-board? Any advice would be really appreciated as I've never flown by myself before. more

By the way, if i book the "Go Fare" with VirginBlue, can i declare my wheel-luggage as hand-carry without "checked Baggage? Beside those flights, do i have other optional flights or train/bus travel in cheapest way? Greatly appreciate if got any input. Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: Any suggestions or tips for a cheap overseas honeymoon?

We are looking at spending around $5k all up, and flights will be ex. Melbourne. I figure for this price we will be looking at a package deal to either somewhere in Asia (prefer not Bali, been there done that) New Zealand or Pacific Islands. Has anyone experienced these places or something similar? any tips? My partner and I have travelled together around Australia so much with work, we are really hanging out to go abroad, even if it is not far. We are happy to travel on the cheap, camp/ drive/ low budget accommodation, we are open to anything to make this happen. I just want to add before anyone start with "save up longer" or what ever, the budget is so tight because since booking our wedding date and paying the deposit my partner has had surgery and 4 months off work, and I was also laid off from my job. This of course was all unexpected. We also only have one month free between the wedding and moving interstate for my partners new job, so postponing the honeymoon means it may never happen! more

Resolved Question: I fly to Singapore from Tasmania->Mel (Qantas) then Mel->Sin (Sin airline). how to make 2 a connecting flight?

I am actually flying to Singapore with Singapore airline at 5PM on Dec 21. However, boss sends me to a conference in Launceston (Tasmania) in the morning. So I will catch a Qantas flight back to Melbourne (arrive Melbourne at 2:40 PM). (1) I just wonder whether it is possible to make the two flights as one connecting flight. Then, Singapore airline will make sure I can catch the next available flight back to Singapore if I missed my 5PM flight due to the delay of the previous Qantas flight from Tasmania. (2) Is it possible to do so? Should a contact Qantas to do so or Singapore airline? Thanks a lot =)I am actually flying to Singapore with Singapore airline at 5PM on Dec 21. Resolved Question: Qantas delay compensation?

On 30th of Oct, I took the Qantas flight QF29 from Melbourne to Hong Kong, about 6 hours before I went to the airport, I received SMS from QANTAS said the flight would be delayed until 2am next day because of the mechanic problem. I received 20AUD voucher for eating. However, on 2am when I board the plane and just before the plane took off, it was found that the engine has some problem and I must stay in the airport until 6:30am, I also got 30AUD voucher for eating. Therefore, the flight was delayed about 6.5 hours. According to the law, if the flight was delayed long time, the passenger can claim the compensation. Also in QANTAS website, it is said: "If travelling on Qantas, we will use all reasonable efforts to depart on time, but we do not guarantee flight times. If your flight is delayed or cancelled, you may in some circumstances be entitled to assistance and/or compensation depending on your journey and applicable law." (http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/conditions-carriage/global/en#jump8). Could anyone can answer my questions: Can I claim the compensation? How much? What is the applicable law about flight delay compensation? Thanks for your reply. more
