In a few weeks time me and my best friend are going to southampton, its the first time i've been away on my own (apart from leeds festival) and im really nervous. One of the main reasons why im nervous is because I have to wake up for our flight at 4am, then theres a short car journey, a plane then a bus for 1h 30mins.. all this is during the morning! I dont normally get travel sick, but my nerves seem to take over and it ends up making me feel really lousy and sick - however i havent been sick because of my nerves as of yet, I was just wondering if theres any helpful tips such as what i should not eat before the flight? what i should eat to settle my stomache? what drinks should i stick to? breathing techniques? .. I know i sound so silly, but it really does effect me and this trip is for my birthday, i dont want it to get ruined by me feeling ill or i wont want to go around shopping! :( please any useful information or experiances will be MUCH appreciated! more

Next year I'm going to Alderney from Southampton. The only way to get there is by a tiny plane. I haven't been on a plane since I was about 13 (I'm 17 now) and since then I have developed a fear of heights and I often get claustrophobic and anxious easily. I also hate people throwing up so what if someone is sick?! The flight is only 45mins but apparently the plane has no aisle and is less or the same as the width of a car. I need to get to Cardiff from Fareham, Hampshire, travelling Saturday 13th and returning Sunday 14th. National express coaches take seven hours and go via heathrow(!). I'll be ending a cruise in Southampton in June. My flight back to the US doesn't leave until noon the next day. By the time I disembark the ship and get to London it would be early afternoon. Is it worth it to make travel arrangements to London and spend the remainder of that day sightseeing or am I better off staying in the Southampton area and doing some sightseeing in that area - and then making my way to Heathrow the next morning. I'm just concerned that with so little time in London it may not be worth the hassle (and expense) of seeing it in 1/2 day. more

Does anyone remember that AWESOME kid's animated film called Flight of Dragons? How much did that rock?! I remember being in Varsity bar in Southampton once and it was playing on the big screen! My friends were then treated to a night of impressions of Giles, the camp wood elf. HahaWhen I was a kid I never realised but don't you think it's slightly weird that Sir Orin vowed to fall in love with a small child when she was older? Also the bit where they yurn cider to milk, the cider was pink - bear in mind this was 20 yeas before Magners - truly visionary:) I always love the speach just before sir orin faced off with the evil dragon. Resolved Question: Airport security - justified or a step too far?

My parents have just booked a flight for the three of us to go see my sister in Southampton at xmas and I've been informed by them that I cannot wear boots on the flight. I thought this was a joke but apparently when my sister was visiting last week she was stopped at Edinburgh Airport and told to remove her Caterpillar boots because she could have a device hidden in the thick soles! I read over the conditions we got with our e-tickets and it seems that this is correct. I usually wear knee high boots in the winter but now I'm going to have to wear shoes or trainers for the flight. Is it just me or is this too much? I'm not disputing that we all have to be vigilant when travelling but does it really matter if I wear boots or flip flip flops? If someone was determined enough to carry out an act of terrorism such as blowing up a plane surely they would have thought up new ways to hide the devices? Will the next step be a strip search for everyone or am I just being silly? more
