So.......I've shopped a lot but cant seem to find that one big thing for her christmas gift. Resolved Question: Can anyone list some TV shows for 6-10 yr old girls that don't have mean girls, bad attitudes, kissing, etc?

Our daughter is 7. She has continued to watch preschool shows, dvds and other things because most of what is offered for her age group (Hannah Montana, iCarly, etc) all contain things we feel are not appropriate until she is a little older. Girls being mean, rude, rolling eyes, bad attitudes, kissing, dating, cheating boyfriends is just not her world yet, and it doesn't need to be. She still plays with dolls, loves dress up, and imaginative play. It seems there should be some shows for girls, besides Bindi that are cute and funny less the attitude. Does anyone have suggestions? more

ok so i have a guy friend who is 11 years old!!! ad he is more girly then other boys his age!!! for example he likes to do people hair, like mine he is always asking if he can style it. In the past few years the Television programs for 6-11 year old children are about shallow middle schoolers who's main purpose is to "be popular" and get the "hot boys", also in recent years 4th -6th graders have suddenly become "little teenagers" i.e. wearing make up, trying to dress older, having cell phones, and "dating" little boys. When I was that age all the 6th graders still had dolls, now if you're 10 and still own a barbie doll you get picked on by the other kids. Do you think there is a connection between the popular "tween" shows like Hannah Montana and anything on Disney channel, and the way little girls are now acting?Yes, I do agree that a lot of it is the parents. Often it's the parent's thinking that their kid wanting to be "grown up" is very cute, so they encourage it. What they don't realize is that it's making these kids very spoiled and is sending them on a little power trip (i.e. talking back, disrespecting adults, thinking they're on a higher level than a child should be on) more

Ok, well, it's kind of a long story but...here it goes... Let me start off by saying I'm thirteen-years-old. NOW, here it goes... My parents got divorced when I was little. My father lives in Florida now, and he basically lets my brother and I do whatever we want. So, my mom is the strict one. She's always picked me out things to wear. She's a total fashionista. She never walks out the house without her high heels, makeup, palm pilot, and looking like a million bucks. Ever since I was little, she always made me look like a million-and-one bucks. But back then, I never really cared about what I wear, which is probably what every other kid is like the first....0-10 years of their lifetime. Now that I'm older, I start getting more into the rocker-chick thing. I got interested in rock music. I started to listen to it more than my Beyonce', Usher, Lil' Wayne, Ciara, and other hip-hop CDs. Then I started to drive into the style. Black fingernail polish and tennishoes. Listening to rock music was weird for my mom. Dressing like it was even weirder to her. And the weirdest thing is that I'm African-American who dresses scene and loves rock music. It's been over a year scince I've been into all this, and my mom still tries to dress me up and make me look like a Beverly Hills, Hannah-Montana princess. I think she should already get the picture that I'm pratically Scene (not emo, there is a big difference, look it up). How do I let her know that I'm not into all that preppy girl stuff and I don't want to be her dress-up doll anymore? Is she just trying to get me not to be scene and into rock music? We are expecting twins in November and are putting together baskets for each of the kids. They aren't really that special and I am not spending a lot of money on them. Resolved Question: How can I be a better role model to my ten-year-old cousin?

She has a huge personality, thats for sure, and she's a good kid too. But I feel like she's been steered in the wrong direction in terms of her values. She's obsessed with Hollister and Abercrombie and won't shut up about Hannah Montana and Bratz dolls. It's all about the stuff she has, how she dresses and the way she acts. Her family has more money than my mom ever did, so all of her requests for this kind of mind-numbing crap are met immediately. Even so, when I was her age I never even thought of buying stuff just because everyone else did. I don't want her to turn into every other clueless girl, and I don't want her to think that she has to live up to some kind of standard just because the media tells her to. So what can I do as the "cool big cousin" to get her to see the light here?I was thinking that I should see her more often and have her come visit me in NYC (she lives in Long Island) so I can take her around to art galleries and museums, things of that nature.Just to clarify, I'm only asking this because I feel that her obsessions are harmful to her psyche. My girls are very young and I was wondering about Christmas gifts that I could get them that might make positive examples of being a girl for them? It seems all that they sell for little girls anymore is Bratz dolls and Hannah Montana and Dress up stuff and cell phones and junk that sets the wrong example, I think. What's something I could get them that they would enjoy WITHOUT making them feel like being a girl is all about being pretty and having lots of material possessions?
