Resolved Question: How do you read guitar tabs?

I just got a guitar yesterday I've had no previous experience with music, I got an Epiphone PR-4E Steel string Electric/Acoustic I watched the DVD and learned 3 major chords E, A, and D after that I thought chords were pretty boring and everytime I play A major my guitar buzzes. I tried searching up some tabs and I could play the first bit of Coheed and Cambria's Wake Up but when it got to the hammer on bit I just gave up and got frustrated can someone tell me how to do a hammer on and pull of in playing the song. The problem I'm really having is the buzzing it seems to be coming from the bridge this happens when I usually play chords but minimal buzz happens when I play an open string. I also got the first bit of Wake Up ok, I just don'r know how to do a pull off, I can hammer on from fret 2 to 5 now. How do you do a pull off in these examples; 2p0 or 4p5? I also need help with tuning when I try to play along to a song, it just doesnt sound right I have an electronic tuner but I'm thinking of getting a chromatic one. Should I take my guitar to a guitar tech to see what's causing the buzzing? more

Resolved Question: What college should I apply to?

I'm faced with a small problem as to deciding which colleges I would like to apply to due to a little disparity in my stats. I have a G.P.A of 2.9 Not very good by most standards. (most kids in my class fall at around a 3.6-3.7) However on the second time I took that SAT reasoning I scored 2100 critical reading: 720 math: 700 writing: 680 SAT II scores: U.S. Hist: 720 Math II: 690 While my tests scores are good everything else is kind of bland. I have a minimal amount of community service and no heavy extracurricular like sports or managing a club. I do, however, have 2 advanced extracurricular art classes as well as a college writing course at Columbia University though it is worth no college credits. I'm part of a few clubs but most of my extracurricular list is composed of hobbies such as playing the guitar, writing, drawing, and reading. I can claim a fairly high level of ability in all of them. I'm just having a hard time figuring out what my range is. I mean I have the test scores to get into most schools like U Penn and Chicago but my 2.9 G.P.A is more typical at schools like U of Arizona or U Colorado at boulder. It seems likely that by the end of the semester I can raise it to like a 3.0 or 3.1 if I'm lucky. Also I have been diagnosed with an auditory processing disorder (a type of learning disability) that may give colleges a reason for my grades. (Though I have heard many colleges will avoid accepting students with any learning disabilities though they are not legally allowed to discriminate) I have yet to decide on a major nor do I really have any idea as to what I could possibly major in. Really any advice would help because the school college counselor has been 0 help. more

Hello if i get my gpa up to a 3.0 in high school then go to a junior college for 2 years get a 4.0 in there. And also do some volunteer work and get a job. And maybe a club if they have one. could i then transfer to a good 4 year undergraduate business program?? like wharton or nyu /chicago/indiana etc.. then double major in finance and economics for undergrad then get a job on wall street for 4 - 5 years then go to grad school and earn my MBA at also a top school?? i speak 2 languages and am learning a 3rd one. play guitar and violin. thanks? also to add i would get a good SAT score above 1900 and a great GMAT score above 700 more

Okay so I just got an electric guitar yesterday and I want to know how to read tabs.I know where to put your fingers and stuff but I don't get the little "---" lines what are you suppose to do on those? I just started to learn guitar. it is a little hard but I've already learned how to play some songs by using only one string like amazing grace, egypt's national anthem and other songs.
