I've been playing guitar for around 3 years but i play mostly acoustic right now and even when i play electric it's more acoustic type songs. i am poor and live in the middle of nowhere the most i can afford to spend on a guitar is around $250, i REALLY want to go to a music store or something and try out guitars but the closest one is a 3 1/2 hour drive to vegas. i mainly just want the best quality one i can get for such a low price range but it has to be the cut out shape to reach the higher frets easier ( i despise the 8 shaped ones) i have been playing for a while and am intermediate-advanced (i play edgar cruz and tommy emmanuel mostly) however the only one i have ever used is a cheapo one i got at a pawnshop, and wanted to learn how to play and get good before i upgraded to a "good" one. my old one is now completely dead (suffered serious injury lol) and i have to get a new one asap any help more

I am looking to learn how to play the guitar, but I not sure what guitar to buy. I have looked online and in stores and its rather overwhelming. I don't know quite what I should be looking for. I want something that is good quality and I have budgeted up to $250 for it, but I would prefer not to spend that much. Any advice on the best one to get. I am definitely thinking I want an acoustic guitar, but beyond that I have no idea. Another concern that I have is that I am a college student and I spend a lot of time traveling back and forth across the country. I am worried that a guitar might get damaged on my flights. So I've been playing acoustic for about three months, I first started learning chords, than I learned wonderwall by Oasis. Im also working scales and different keys (i can play twinkle twinkle little star in the key of c) , I dont take lesson I just learn from online and through books. I can play time of your life by Greenday pretty well i practice it everyday, I can arpeggiate the intro as well. I just feel like im falling behind, cause i dont take lessons. Recently I decided that I would like to learn how to play the guitar. I don't really know anyone in my family who can recommend a good guitar. So I need to know which one is a good beginner guitar that has great sound, quality, and most importantly price. Preferably acoustic. Nothing too expensive since I'm only learning so I have a hobby and not seriously wanting to be a musician. However, I also don't want some cheap guitar that doesn't sound good and breaks after only a little while. Also if anyone could advise me what I should start off learning and any books or websites that would help me. Do I need any accessories and what not along with the guitar? How do I tune it without an electronic tuner or another instrument to help? Here are some of my questions concerning learning: 1. How long and often should I practice? 2. When should I be able to see results? A month or two? A year? (I have a good memory so I can remember a lot but my fingers might have trouble since their short and little) 3. What are some ways to soothe sore fingers? 4. If you have any tips or stories of when you were learning. (If you don't play guitar then any tips on sight reading?) 5. Resolved Question: Bought an acoustic guitar. What/how should I learn to strum with?

I recently bought an acoustic guitar and I'm kinda learning it myself (haven't had any teachers or anything) Initially i used to strum down (and only down) using the tip of my thumb.. then someone informed me that i should be strumming up as well as down and i should use my nail. So now i've started strumming by placing my thumb on my forefinger and using the nail on my forefinger to strum down, but when i do this I am not sure what to strum up with. Basicly I'm having a strumming crisis, I don't know whether (when learning an acoustic guitar) to buy a plectrum or pick and use that... or to use the nail on my forefinger.. or use all the nails on all my fingers... and the biggest problem in all of this is I'm just not sure what to strum up with when using my fingers. Have searched online but almost all the tutorials i find involve a plectrum.. should i buy one? is that the best way to play?? any help really appreciated. more

Well just yesterday i staarted learning to play the guitar on my own..my sister gave me her electric guitar ( its made by fender...Squier Bullet.) and books because she dosent play it anymore. i dont have anything to tune it with so i looked up how to do it and tuned it myself and i think that i did a pretty good job..not that good but good hah..anyways. Resolved Question: What is a somewhat easy instrument to learn that you think I would like?

I want to learn to play an instrument because I love classical music, but I'm not sure which I would really like. A bit more than half a year ago I was searching around online a bit to see what would suit me. Then one of my mom's friends offered her a great deal on an acoustic guitar. It was only $110 dollars. She bought it for me and it is the most beautiful sounding guitar ever, but I just can't get into it. I just don't really like playing it that much for some reason. I don't like to quit things after I just start them (I never really do that actually), but I want to try something else. I was considering drums because I've tried my cousin's before and I really like playing them. I haven't really played anything on them though. I just keep a simple steady beat with them whenever I go over to his house and play them. I get so mesmerized by a slow steady beat. I don't know if this would be too hard to learn though. My brother is one of those people who like playing music more than anything. He's getting an electric violin for Hanuka this year, and I was thinking maybe I could try it and see if I like that. My brother plays piano, trumpet, flute, and harmonica if your wondering. I'm kinda good at reading music too. So what instrument do you think is pretty easy to learn and what do you think I should learn? more

Resolved Question: Beginner to Acoustic Guitar?

As the header states, I am trying to learn how to play guitar and need some help :). Well first off, I know how to read tabs and all, but i'm having a problem playing. When I try to play a note (or strum, I believe is the correct term), I keep getting the same annoying buzz sound. The sound is as described: It sounds like the string is bouncing around on the metal part of the fret (I think that's what it's called). Does anyone know how to avoid this, or keep myself from doing it? Also, does anyone know of any online sites where I can tune my guitar using a mic? All help is appreciated. Remember they aren't like little 8 year old learn to play guitars. They look pretty good online. I'm not wanting to get real serious with guitar though so i don't need a first class thing you know. I've had an acoustic guitar for a couple years now, and just never got the time to play it. Now I find myself sitting on myspace for hours with nothing to do, and I'm just curious if I actually started learning to play it, about how long would it take to actually play some good songs? I sing and stuff too so I think it would be great to play the guitar and sing, maybe making youtube videos.. If it's as easy as my friends say it is, is there any FREE guitar lessons online I could learn from? I'm a visual person so video's would be helpful, but if there isn't any then I'm fine with just reading and learning. Please help? :p more
