Voting Question: beginner guitar help?
I've had my guitar for a while now and i haven't made any progress with learning how to play. My main problem is that i don't know where to begin. in a few months my sister is getting a bass for her birthday and I want to get a head start on learning so I can teach her as well. So where do I begin? Do I start with learning chords or do I just learn easy songs and work my way towards harder songs? And are there any websites where I can learn how to play for free without a catch? Thanks in advanceAlso, if I go with learning chords first, in what order do I learn them in? moreResolved Question: Where in manhattan can i get guitar lessons for free?
i really want to learn how to play the electric guitar. where do they teach for free (if its private even better)in manhattan.(electric guitar, bass, and drums.) moreResolved Question: my friend is too lazy to help the band...?
what do i do? my friend and i made a band. i wrote a ton of lyrics and i've been singing my heart out since i learned to sing(which i think i taught myself). I play my guitar / bass in my free time (which i don't have a lot of due to school. i continue to write lyrics the second they come to my head, but since she wanted to be the guitarist and sing backup she doesn't really contribute. her exscuses are the following: me: hey, i wrote another song and the tune is still in my head, you want to try to work on it? her: sure. when? me: tomorrow at school during break/lunch her: but i don't wanna carry my guitar D: me: please? i really want to get this song finished ASAP. her: will you carry it? me: why? your guitar isn't heavy. her: yes it is D: i don't want to take it to school. you see my problem? no matter what i try (i don't want to break out into a figh) she just won't try. when she's home she uses the computer, watches tv, (doesn't even have hw) but still doesn't even TRY to pick up her guitar. and when she does she does other bands songs, she doesn't try to do anything for our band at all. she also has stage fright.. but she wants to be in the band. not optional: i won't cut her from the band (right now it's only us two and she's my best friend) i can't record her part too (hell i might as well go solo. [also not an option]) i can't just yell at her and tell her she needs to do her part (she gets pissed off as quickly as i do) etc... please help me :( i really just want to get my music career starting *oh, and my other best guy friend is a musician (and a SUPER AMAZING one at that) and he has a band; he agrees with me that she isn't helping the band by being lazy.. but even he knows we can't be seperated. moreResolved Question: Whats the difference between amps?
Ive been playing bass for bout 2 years now Im in a band and everything but i never really learned much about amps. Like I play an Ampeg BA115 and all ik is that its loud and has an awesome tone. But like whats the difference between a tube amp a cabinet a combo (which I think the BA115 is) and shit like that. This goes for both bass and guitar amps so whatever you know please feel free to share. Thanks moreResolved Question: Drum and bass play-alongs?
I've been playing guitar for 6 few years and techincally I'm quite allright... the problem is all my playing entirely comes down to the find-the-guitar-pro-file-and-learn-it-by-heart style. I'm therefore slowly diving into the sea of improvisation. ;) Anyway, what I wanted to ask is where to find good free drum and bass backings I could improvise to... I did some googling but couldn't find anything that meets the following criteria (which might be because I don't speak English perfectly... so I might not know the appropriate vocabulary?): 1) it should be free 2) it should be bass + drums, preferably calm. You know, warm bass and calm percussion, just something to provide a nice background for clean or slightly distorted electric guitar. 3) it should be mp3 (with all due respect to midi-lovers out there... I prefer "real" instruments) do you think it is possible to find such tracks in the internet? moreResolved Question: Is this to much instruments?
Well I play Piano, Guitar (somewhat), Recorder (somewhat), Flute (Band), Bassoon (Switching from Flute), and Tenor Saxophone (Marching Band). But i want to learn more instruments like Clarinet, maybe Piccolo, Oboe, Maybe Bass Clarinet, Alto Flute looks awesome. So yeah....... I would like to play all those instruments. (I didn't name any brass cuz i'm not a big fan (Sorry any brass players!!)). But is that you know....... to much? I have a lot of free time. But i'm just kinda worried, that all those instruments would get in the way of hanging out with friend, but i really, really wanna learn them. I kinda need help. =] some1 help? moreResolved Question: Is there a site that has bass guitar parts to rock songs?

I've been playing the bass guitar for over 4 years. I wish to buy a decent keyboards and learn the essential piano things which will allow me to compose. Like chords, basic technique etc. Is there a good youtube channel or a website for piano lessons? moreResolved Question: Help writing an essay?
I just finished up a rough draft for my essay. I'm not that great of a writer, actually I pretty much suck haha. Can anyone just read it over and if you have any input at all, corrections, opinions, advice, anything would be really helpful. I was eight years old when I finally got a Christmas present that I loved. My parents called out my name that Christmas morning, and as I ran down the stairs, they handed me a box that was almost as big as me. I was pretty excited, considering I never got a present that didn’t come in a 10x10 Macy’s box. Frankly, the gift wrap was a waste; I tore right through it faster than I had ever moved. When I opened the box I didn’t know what to do, I was speechless, even motionless. I couldn’t think, I just stood there in awe. After a few minutes of realized I had basically become a statue, I picked up my brand new Ibanez, my very first guitar. Up until that day I had only dreamt of holding a guitar in my hands. I couldn’t quite grasp the small, nor have I ever had a guitar before, but I could already tell I loved the smell of the carved rosewood, and absolutely adored the divine sound of the new strings. Over the next 9 years, I had a few teachers, and I educated myself as much as I could as well. I was always eager to learn more. Eventually I even started playing other instruments such as clarinet, bass and now my instrument of choice, drums. For me there is no such thing as knowing “enough.” I was never satisfied with what I knew; this would probably explain the switching of teachers and instruments. To me music has always been a gateway to a world of freedom, free to think, free to express yourself, no limitations. Each song is like a new book, and every lyric like a new page. I think it’s safe to say not only has music gotten me through some tough times in my life, but many other people as well. Music is inspirational to everyone and enjoying music is something that everyone can agree on, regardless of what was happening, what time period it is, where you’re from, or what you believe. Music has always inspired me in many ways. Not only do I feel that music is a way of expressing one’s emotions, but I also feel that music has the power to alter ones’ feelings. For example, when I’m listening to a nice slow acoustic song, it allows my consciousness to imagine and soar to a calm peaceful parallel world. Some music gives energy, some relaxes us, some makes people feel romantic, some makes them feel angry. It is a universal language that anyone can relate to no matter your cultural background. Paul Hewson, mostly known as Bono, the singer of U2 couldn’t have put it in simpler terms: “Music can change the world because it can change people.” There are different ways that music can affect a person. When someone is listening to music they can pay close attention and appreciate the skills of the musicians and can push a person who is also a musician to try harder, to try to reach their max potential or even overpass what they thought was their max potential. Why? If this person can do it, why can’t we? We’re just as human as them. Aside from the music, the lyrics in a song can also be a very fervent part of a song. Lyrics can help people realize that they are not alone, other people have felt the way they are now and that everything works out. Music has constantly been around in cultures all around the world and I feel it’s become more of media then culture these days. Maybe one day I’ll be able to touch people with the music I create and inspire them to do something great in the world as it’s done for me Thanks a lot. moreResolved Question: Learning the piano........?
Basically I've been wanting to learn the Piano for some time and I recently obtained a Keyboard for free and I guess now's a good time? I'm not exactly new to instruments I already play Guitar and Bass but I pretty sure that won't help me, right? Anyways, one to my main questions. I could use a keyboard to learn right? I mean, I know I could get the basic feel but I would like to learn a song or so before going after a real piano to see if I like it or not. The keyboard has 35 white keys and 25 black ones. Another Question I have is how hard is it? I mean I know it's not going to be easy but like it's not impossible right? I don't have alot of money to spare to take lessons and I would be just trying to scrape the basics I would need to know off the internet... Would this be ok? And I guess the last one is does anyone know a good site I could learn off of for free? Like looks for tabs (Is it called tabs like for guitars or is it sheet music?) and lessons. I'm not talking theory or anything just how to place my hands and whatnot. Thanks for all answers ahead of time.Oh, one more question! I'm new to bass guitar, not guitar, just bass. I've already learned a few songs (Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, The Cure, Korn, etc.) I'm looking for suggestions of good, relatively easy (but still fun to play) songs that would be easy for someone like me to pick up on. I started playing bass first and I started playing like a year and a half ago. Then a year ago, I got a guitar and started playing that. The hardest song I can play well is Reptilia by the Strokes ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBGz-14yv-8 ) and that song's pretty easy... So any tips for getting better? What should I practice? What are some important techniques I should learn? What are some important chords that I need to know? And should I learn them in different positions too? What would be the best/easiest way to learn, preferably Without lessons? I don't want to pay for an instructor...I have plenty of free time and nothing to do this summer. Thanks moreResolved Question: AM I TOO OLD FOR THIS?
I'm 19 and I really really really want to learn how to do these four things: 1. Play the drums, rock and roll style! I've wanted to do this for so long, but I haven't really known many girls, if any, that play the drums. I did play in middle school, the bongo, and I picked it up quickly. My teacher said I have a natural knack for it, but I don't know if this would translate to rock-n-roll type of drumming 2. Guitar - I play the flute, so I do know how to read at least some music, and I was also drum major during high school, which forced me to get a little more familiar with various instruments, such as th bass 3. Dance- Club style AND Hip-Hop style - not too gangster lol, but not too sexy/"bootylicious" either. Um, I did ballet when I was like, 10... lol So, I hope that SOMEONE out there can help me! 1. Am I too old to be able to become good at these by the time I'm 28? 2. Is this a waste of my time? I feel a passion and desire inside to go for it, but I don't want to not perform at my optimum level in other areas where I KNOW I'm talented ( i.e. my college education and my aspiration to become a doctor, my flute, art, writing, soccer, etc.) 2. Can you recommend some FREE and/ or priced learning materials that can help me get started? What are the best tutorials out there on the internet for BEGINNERS??? 3. Do guys think that girls who can play the drums or guitar are hot? I mean, is that type of talent attractive? I'm a total girly-girl so I think it might catch people off guard a little bit lol. Any helpful answers out there would be GREATLY appreciated! Seriously! Thanks so much :D moreResolved Question: I learning Bass Guitar simple?
I currently play saxophone, percussion, clarinet and keyboard... Im thinking of taking up bass guitar in my free time so I can get with some of my buddies and jam out with them. I would like to know if I pick up a bass guitar if it would be easy to teach myself with method books and online stuff. If push comes to shove I would probably get a few private lessons. I can read notes and rhythms... Im guessing the only thing that will be new to me is learning the notes on the guitar and finger positions... I do now what to play tabs though, I want to read notes. How easy is this? (learning bass guitar) I have no interest in slap bass btw. I don't know if those are two different instruments to even begin with. : ) All the help will be great! Thanks! moreResolved Question: What is the name of this song?
I was on my computer the other day putting music on my MP3 player and found a folder titled Blue Grass, I listened to the 8 songs that were in it. I have no idea where the folder came from, but I loved the songs. Some of them had titles, some didn't. I really want to know the names. The first untitled song goes like this: In North Carolina where my papa came from a man was known by the work that he done. Welfare checks never paid his bills, Papa made a livin' by workin' saw mills Papa made a livin' by workin' saw mills And the chips would fly and the blades would whirl bringin' home a livin' to his Carolina girl. Sweat would roll where the wood met steel Papa made a livin' by workin' saw mills Papa made a livin' by workin' saw mills. He'd leave every mornin' with his axe and saw, cut down the timber that the horses would draw A God fearin' man with a woodsman's skill Papa made a livin' by workin' saw mills Papa made a livin' by workin' saw mills CHORUS Lookin' back on it all now I finally understand its hard to make a livin' as a saw mill hand But he raised nine kids with (I can't understand what these lines are) Papa made a livin' by workin' saw mills Papa made a livin' by workin' saw mills CHORUS 2X I really like this song and I'm learning to play the bass part on a bass guitar. The second untitled song goes like this: It's a long lonely road and these shoes are gettin' thin thumbin' my way back home Cold fallin' rain is clingin' to my skin chillin' me clean to the bone. Big semi trucks nearly raise me off the ground as they go screamin' by But the (sign, or sun? I'm not sure what) in my head says I'm homeward bound An' I'll get there by and by Take me back to old Kentucky I wish I'd never left to roam Take me back to old Kentucky I miss my old mountain home I miss the Whippoorwills singin' their song as the shadows crept over the farm An' I miss that old rooster crowin' at dawn from the fence post down by the barn I've had years of city livin' but one thing a country boy learns No matter how long he lives in the city that country fire still burns CHORUS 2X Then there is a song titled Matthew Was an Old Man. I don't know why it's called that, the soloist it clearly singing the name Clancy in the song. The next one goes like this: I have walked the pathway for my Lord and Savior Now the record of my life is nearly ore' I hear angel wings a hummin' in the distance They will fly me to that bright eternal shore I will see you on the other side of Jordon I am laying down the cross I've carried here Keep your hand in the hand of our redeemer and we will meet again I know up there It is time to say farewell for death is creeping Oh do not mourn nor shed one tear for me I am sailing to a home up there supernal and the face of my dear Savior I shall see CHORUS 2X Then there is a song called Mordecai, then one called Carolina in the pines. There is 8 musical pieces total First just some Bluegrass music, than the Sawmill song, then the Old Kentucky one, then Matthew Was an Old Man, then the I Have Walked the Pathway one, then another piece of Bluegrass music, then the song Mordecai, then the song Carolina In the Pines. They are all Bluegrass but two of them don't have any words so I can't describe them to you. If you know any of the lines that I don't then please tell them to me. Also who are these song by? Are they popular? Were they all from the same album, or compiled by who knows who? Any information would be helpful, feel free to ask questions. Thanks!I tried the GOOGLE thing, it didn't work.Yes, that is the Matthew one, thanks for all the hard work!I found a YouTube vid of Carolina in The Pines that sounds exactly like the copy I have, so I think its by Josh Williams also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LCdW6JgEnM moreResolved Question: Please help with my problem...?
I'm sixteen and I've been playing bass and guitar for three years. I recently visited my cousin and played on his drum kit, and haven't been able to think about anything since. I really really want to learn to play now. The problems are... 1. I don't have any money to buy drums (All of the money I get from working goes toward gas and a trip I'm taking this summer... and I don't want to wait until my birthday... which is... 10 months from now). Paying for lessons isn't a problem, though, because my dad has a friend who runs a music shop and gave me free bass lessons. 2. My house is kind of small, with no sound insulation whatsoever. I'll be sitting in my room, with the door closed, and I can hear my parents' conversation in the kitchen perfectly. It doesn't help much that my step-mom will be giving birth in the fall. What do you suggest? Like I said, I've never wanted to do something more in my life... Thanks so much for the help! moreResolved Question: Help with drums.......?
Alright, here's the deal. When I grew up, I played video games during every moment of free time I had. This lasted up through when I was 18. I really think as a result of that, I learned how to be lazy during my free time now, even though I ditched video games long ago and never play them at all, ever. But instead, I sit on my computer listening to all my music, checking Facebook (even when I've got nothing new to look at on there). If not Facebook, I'm on youtube looking up all sorts of videos. Sometimes I'll play my bass guitar, in which case a lot of times I go on my computer again to look up tabs that I can't figure out on my own. Right now I'm on Spring Break, stuck at school. I have a ton of homework to do, but I procrastinate constantly. I could go to the gym, start actually researching grad schools and internships, or something else, but I'm a waste. I stay up doing my computer/music routine til 7 or 8am, even if I worked all day and should be tired, and I sleep til about 3 in the afternoon, only to start up the same wasteful routine again. Even on days I have classes, I sleep in until the hour before class, even if my first one is at 2pm. I watch people like Bear Grylls and feel like crap. He's pretty much everything man was supposed to be; out in the wild, just surviving. But even just looking around on campus it seems everyone's got something they're good at that's impressive, from anything like skateboarding to lifting to an impressive internship and scholarship. Then I look at me and wonder what the hell happened. I mean, I play bass, but I'm just a novice, and I suck at meeting people, so I couldn't form a band ever. Plus, nobody respects a bassist. So what can I do? I feel like it's a lost cause unless someone is with me everywhere I go, forcing me out of my habitual lack of activity and importance. I need a personal boot camp instructor or something. moreResolved Question: Does anybody know some cool songs for bass guitar that iI could learn?
I want to learn some cool songs that arent too challenging (peace sells by megadeth is just a tiny bit too hard for me) but still sound awesome. Any input would be appreciated. I want to learn how to play the electric bass but figured I'd start with a beginner acoustic guitar to actually learn the strings and all that jazz. One of the new things I want to do for 2009 is learn how to play bass. I know the best thing to do is to look for a 'starter kit', but I don't know if I should order one online or try to find a music store.
