What song should i choose to learn on guitar. It should be a good one, probably clean/acoustic in parts. I don't know when Ill get an amp. I am a beginner, I have been playing for almost 3 months at school and trying other things by myself at home. I have tried the very beginnings of some songs like One by Metallica, Fade To Black by Metallica, The Day That Never Comes by Metallica, Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones, and thats about all that I have been pretty successful with. Only the very beginnings though. I also played the chords for Comfortably Numb and probably got like 85% when playing with the song. I still cannot switch fingers very fast, but if I learn a song I could practice doing it in that song. Please suggestions. Not any older than 1975 please. You could suggest trying the songs i have tried the beginning too. more

Voting Question: Why do people play guitar hero when it costs more and is harder to play?

Uhmm... I've seen people blow hundreds of dollars on these complete setups, and all the bonus disks and stuff, all the different versions of the games. And it's like... why bother? I play real guitar and after two weeks I was rocking, it takes less effort to learn guitar than it does to play a song on expert mode! With the money they spend they could buy a decent acoustic or a nice little beginner's electric package... I just don't get why people waste their money and countless hours on these games when they could be doing the real thing for much less time and money. Plus nothing beats the satisfaction of playing a song all the way through with a live band, it's a better feeling than scoring any amount of points in some stupid game could ever reacreate.Dude must be shit at bass then... cause I was playing jaco solos within my first year. Maybe he should spend more time actually practicing the real thing instead of playing some bullsh*t game, kinda the point. And I'd rather spend time actually doing the real thing and being fat bald and unfulfilled, than playing some video game and doing the same thing. At least I'd have gave life a shot. Guys need to get out more... more

Hello! I really would like to learn how to play guitar and I have a acoustic guitar. It wasn't bought for me though, it was for someone else in the family. The neck is fairly wide but as it goes down it gets wider. I have small hands so it's really difficult for me to get my fingers over to the sixth string without accidently touching other strings. SOAD stuff Fallen Leaves - Billy Talent Im into every style of music, minus bluegrass and country. Heavy metal, soft acoustic, I like it all. I'd really dig some nice acoustic songs that arn't just 4 chords repeated over and over that might impress some people (maybe some beginner's fingerpicking?), or a rockin electric song that blows up people's brain. Well I've always been one of those people who needs to be taught something and needs directions on how to learn something so being a self-taught guitarist is a little overwhelming. I, nor my family, can really afford lessons right now and everyone I know that does play guitar plays electric and I want to play acoustic. A couple of my friends were playing a guitar a few nights ago. The were covering songs and it was such a cool thing. I love music and have what seems like millions of songs memorized word for word in my head. I never thought there would be a way to express that until I saw them. I really want to learn. The only thing is they have been playing since they were kids, not starting at 17. How long would it take a motivated person to get good enough at guitar to play songs on it? Hii, I've had a 3/4 sized guitar for a few years and had forgotton about it untill about 6 months ago, and recently i have been 'teaching' myself to play it. I can play G, C, D, Cadd9, B and a few other chords, but i still need practicing. Also, i can play a few realllly easy songs such as 'Hey there delilah- plain white t's', and 'nicest thing- kate nash' and the intro to 'you're beautiful- james blunt.' but i'm not all that great. The thing is this guitar is out of tune and is very old and the strings aren't all that good, so i was planning on buying a new one. I don't want to spend loads, btu i'd like a full sized guitar and a few plectrums to improve my skills. I don't think i will be having a tutor, and i quite like to figure things out by myslef with the help of books, internet ect.
