Resolved Question: Questions on guitar picking/fretting techniques?

I have been playing guitar for more than a year now, and i have reached the point in my life where i can't seem to progress anymore with guitar. It's not that I am that good, i would barely call myself an intermediate guitarist. I used to be able to learn at least something every week, but now I get sick of playing the same stuff every day. I really want to progress with guitar, but every time I try, I fail. I have a few questions about my techniques. I have problems with strumming up and down, I only strum down. I have trouble with hammer-ons and pull-offs, (maybe because of my guitar?) like in the song Reckoning by Killswitch Engage. I cannot learn to gallop. I feel that my finger placement on some songs really slow me down, but I don't know how to conveniently place them. When I do strum up and down rapidly, I have to turn my pick sideways. When i try to learn a really fast-paced riff (such as a solo) i can't do it quick enough, and i get discouraged. Please, help me. I'm stuck and I can't get out. I'm buying a new guitar soon, and i don't want to waste that much money. thanksi also have trouble with harmonicsI have tried guitar lessons before, but we just don't have many expert guitarists with the ability to teach around here. Would online videos help? And, I definitely need a new guitar. more

Voting Question: Learning How To Play Guitar!=D?

So recently I have been interested in playing guitar again..I learned when I was in grade 10 but the only thing my teacher thought us was tabs!. I learned how to do chords myself even though at times I'm very slow at it, but I'm sure sooner or later I'll learn to do it faster. My problem at the moment is I wanna play lots of songs but when it comes to strumming chords it doesn't sound right, its like I'm just randomly strumming even though I'm holding down the right chords. It's like I know what chord to play but its the strumming that's annoying me. I don't really wanna go to school just to learn this because that will be a waste it's not like I plan on becoming a Rock Star, it's just a random hobby. So any suggestions on what I could play like a easy song for beginners and sites to learn how to strum or tips. Thanksss!. more

Resolved Question: why does my guitar sound so bad?

ok i know chances are you are thinking im just crap on the guitar. well im not steve vai but im not bad either but i have been playing for alomst 3 years now and i cant get a good guitar sound no matter what i do. its been bad for some time but only now its getting annoying because i sound crap when i play somethin thats good. im trying to learn thunderstruck and the intro just sounds like a mess when i play it through the amp but it sounds perfect when i play without an amp. i have tried so many different types of effects to get the sounds. i have a pod x3 live and i downloaded a thunderstruck patch but still the same problems. ive tried keeping the volume on the guitar down as low as possible but the same thing just at a lower volume. there is no delay or reverb or anything like that. a single note on its own is ok and for slow enough solos its fine but for faster parts where there are many notes it all mushes together and i just get a load of noise and cant make out whats being played. what am i doing wrong? i have an ibanez sa260 its not the best but it cant be that bad of a guitar that its messing up my sound that badly, i have a pod x3 live and a marshall mg50 amp i never got guitar lessons so this is why i need some help on how to get better. there is a slight bit of fret buzz on the lower frets but the higher ones are fine more

Resolved Question: How should I take care of my guitar?

I just got an a Yamaha acoustic F-325. The guy in the shop tunned it for me but its still making a buzzing sound. Also, I haven't gotten the case yet because they don't have it in stock so how should I store it? In its box? Strings facing the cieling? How should I clean it? Where should I store it. I'm still learning to get all my chords down, so far I memorized my D, G and C. What should I learn next? I can read music, but I'm really slow and I hate doing it. So, can you answer any of these questions? (including that one) more

Resolved Question: Should I learn classical guitar?

I first picked up guitar about nine years ago. But even though I've been at it for years, I've been stuck at a beginner's level. I can read chord charts and tablature. I know commonly used chords/fingerings. I can figure out the chords to a lot of songs by ear if I sat down with a recording, pausing for each chord as I look for its match on the fretboard. But all I can do so far is just simple chord strumming. I don't know how to read music and I haven't really even gotten the names of the notes on the fretboard memorized (except for the fifth and sixth strings, because that's usually where the bass notes of chords are located, right?) I play songs mostly from the alternative rock genre (partly because I like the genre, and partly because there are a lot of songs from the genre that are easy enough for me to play). And sometimes, I like to try writing my own songs. Which is why I would like to learn how to play lead and improvise - so I could embellish my own songs and come up with more interesting sounds. I think I could use some music theory too. Without music theory or even knowing the notes on the fretboard, one could still come up with musical ideas, but to me, doing it that way feels like groping around in the dark. Also, I was thinking that if I knew some music theory, it would be a lot easier for me to figure out how to play other people's songs by ear. Of course, I could just look for tablature and play by numbers, but I want to understand what I'm doing... not just mindlessly hit these notes without knowing what they are and why..... So recently, I decided to sign up for lessons with a teacher. (I think one of the reasons my progress has been so slow is that I have been playing and learning mostly by myself. I was thinking I could learn more, faster, with the guidance of someone who knows what he's doing.) When we first met, my teacher asked me what exactly I wanted him to teach me. But I wasn't really sure how to put it in words. There are so many things I want to learn, and I probably don't even know what some of them techniques are called. :) He also mentioned that he didn't want to teach me by reading off sheet music, because, he said, it just might make me dizzy. Part of me agrees with my teacher. The thought of learning to read music, how it relates to the guitar, and playing the music as I read it just scares me. It seems so complicated. Also, if he does teach me to read music, he's going to be giving me classical lessons. Now, I LOVE listening to classical music. It's beautiful! It's just that I never really imagined myself playing it, because, well, it looks so difficult! :) However, there's also a part of me that thinks maybe it would be good for me. It'll motivate me to learn the notes on the fretboard, I'll learn proper fingering positions... and I'm not sure, but I have a feeling that I'll need to know how to read music if I want to learn some music theory - is that right? So now, I'm not so sure what I should do. Should I go ahead and learn classical guitar? Or should I just ask my teacher to teach me rock/blues songs and scales and solos, etc, by "shape" instead? Because I really want to understand what I'm doing... and I'm up for learning new and challenging things. But then again, I'm not sure if my brain can handle it (I'm already 27 years old)... or if it would really help me with my goals (songwriting, improvisation). I mean, it's probably not very realistic of me to aim for really becoming a classical guitarist, when I'm starting out this late in life. But I'm willing to learn what it has to offer, so hopefully I could apply it to other genres and perhaps even my own music. Yet, I'm also afraid that like my teacher said, it would just make me dizzy.. What do you think? :) By the way, I already decided to give the classical lessons a try. Last week was our first classical lesson. We haven't gotten to the part with note reading yet - just p-i-m-a exercises and tablature. It takes me forever to get it right there and then, on-the-spot, and we haven't even gotten to the good stuff yet! hahaha! :) Not to mention that these hourly lessons don't come very cheap. :) (we went over a Study in E Minor, "Andantino in C" and "Romanza") So now, I'm wondering if I could ask my teacher if he could give me the classical lessons more as homework/supplementary material, and just use more of our session time on rock/blues techniques..? I don't know. Would that be a better idea? Thanks... :)haha, yeah Matt B... I tend to write too long... haha... :) I'll try to write shorter next time. :)) Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Help writing an essay?

I just finished up a rough draft for my essay. I'm not that great of a writer, actually I pretty much suck haha. Can anyone just read it over and if you have any input at all, corrections, opinions, advice, anything would be really helpful. I was eight years old when I finally got a Christmas present that I loved. My parents called out my name that Christmas morning, and as I ran down the stairs, they handed me a box that was almost as big as me. I was pretty excited, considering I never got a present that didn’t come in a 10x10 Macy’s box. Frankly, the gift wrap was a waste; I tore right through it faster than I had ever moved. When I opened the box I didn’t know what to do, I was speechless, even motionless. I couldn’t think, I just stood there in awe. After a few minutes of realized I had basically become a statue, I picked up my brand new Ibanez, my very first guitar. Up until that day I had only dreamt of holding a guitar in my hands. I couldn’t quite grasp the small, nor have I ever had a guitar before, but I could already tell I loved the smell of the carved rosewood, and absolutely adored the divine sound of the new strings. Over the next 9 years, I had a few teachers, and I educated myself as much as I could as well. I was always eager to learn more. Eventually I even started playing other instruments such as clarinet, bass and now my instrument of choice, drums. For me there is no such thing as knowing “enough.” I was never satisfied with what I knew; this would probably explain the switching of teachers and instruments. To me music has always been a gateway to a world of freedom, free to think, free to express yourself, no limitations. Each song is like a new book, and every lyric like a new page. I think it’s safe to say not only has music gotten me through some tough times in my life, but many other people as well. Music is inspirational to everyone and enjoying music is something that everyone can agree on, regardless of what was happening, what time period it is, where you’re from, or what you believe. Music has always inspired me in many ways. Not only do I feel that music is a way of expressing one’s emotions, but I also feel that music has the power to alter ones’ feelings. For example, when I’m listening to a nice slow acoustic song, it allows my consciousness to imagine and soar to a calm peaceful parallel world. Some music gives energy, some relaxes us, some makes people feel romantic, some makes them feel angry. It is a universal language that anyone can relate to no matter your cultural background. Paul Hewson, mostly known as Bono, the singer of U2 couldn’t have put it in simpler terms: “Music can change the world because it can change people.” There are different ways that music can affect a person. When someone is listening to music they can pay close attention and appreciate the skills of the musicians and can push a person who is also a musician to try harder, to try to reach their max potential or even overpass what they thought was their max potential. Why? If this person can do it, why can’t we? We’re just as human as them. Aside from the music, the lyrics in a song can also be a very fervent part of a song. Lyrics can help people realize that they are not alone, other people have felt the way they are now and that everything works out. Music has constantly been around in cultures all around the world and I feel it’s become more of media then culture these days. Maybe one day I’ll be able to touch people with the music I create and inspire them to do something great in the world as it’s done for me Thanks a lot. more

Voting Question: Can you agree that through music; you can really learn to understand yourself and others?

I myself have been playing guitar for about 6 years and have created dozens of my own songs. When i play them I can reflect the music back on to me, like i'm peering down into my soul. Over the summer I had gone into a depression and the music i came up with at that time was parallel with my mood. It was slow, dark and moody; exactly how I felt. Think it's very interesting playing those tunes now. But if you listen to someone like Mikeness(lead singer and guitarist for Social Distortion). His music portrays his life, and the things he's gone through. I've tried changing my style, tuning the guitar differently, but all my music sounds alike. But different... Same style and mood, just different texture... more

Resolved Question: will putting stickers on the fretboard have a major effect on the sound?

I want to learn the scales really fast, (such as the arab or the pentatonic scale) but I have a weak memory so it takes me days for my brain to take something in. Anyway, I've been trying to learn an entire scale but its really annoying looking at a piece of paper constantly to check where stuff is and it slows down my playing a lot. Also I sometimes misjudge distances such as how many frets to travel. To alleviate this I had the idea of placing little red round stickers at the notes that I'm allowed to play within the scale so I know to just play those notes and hopefully it'll allow me to steadily memorize where the notes all are. Will this have any major effect on the sound of the guitar? (i'm willing to sacrifice my ability to do hammer-ons for faster learning). Thanks. more

Resolved Question: is high action better then low action on an electric guitar?

I mainly like to play a lot of metal and shred a lot. i have very fast fingers. my guitar does not buzz no matter what action i have it on it has a flyod rose lo pro edge bridge so i have experimented a lot with action as it was easy to adjust. when i have it really low it does not buzz and its not hard to play at all its just i never feal the strings and my fingers go way to fast i end up notes ahead of me picking after a while and it just gets sloppy. even when i sweep pick my fingers come up way to early no matter what i do i cant go slow enough on low action its way to easy to go fast and sucks in my opinion when it comes to the tone i hear and my calouses are so big i cant feal the strings. so i decided to raise my action and it was a miracle my hands coordinated much better. it slowed me down just enough yet it sounded better. is high action actually better? people online i read say low action they think is better for this because its easier but i find it goes to fast and you dont actually feal like your playing the guitar it feals like your playing a keyboard with no springs and i cant understand how you get any fidelity on bends, or noting or any techinique it feals like the guitar plays its self. is this true what i am experiencing is high action better? i have only been playing the guitar for a month with my first guitar ever an ibanez rg570ct. is it possible i am not doing anything advanced enough to notice the difference. i have been learned to play iron man, canon rock, and my latest song i have learned to play is steve vai's the audience is listening. are those songs difficult enough to notice which action is better? more

Resolved Question: Guitar Pro Questions?

I'm seriously thinking of purchasing the Guitar Pro, however I'd like to find out some information about it first from people that own the software: 1. The website says it comes with some scales on it and I'm wondering what scales are there on the program? Major, Minor, Modes, Beebop, ect. I've seen some in a screen shot, but not all. I can't find any information on the website other than the screen shot as to what scales it comes with. Also, are you given the tools to create/save your own synthetic scales? 2. Also, I'm purchasing it so that I can further enjoy the tabs on tab websites that support Guitar Pro, however, I was wondering if the sheet music would come in along with the tab as a general rule? Would be awesome if it did, but it's probably left up to the author of the tab is my guess... 3. Assuming the program is one that plays a synthesized instrument along with the tab (which I believe it does) is one able to speed up/slow down the playing of the tab to help him/her learn the piece? It looks like an awesome program, I just want to get a good picture of what to expect in these areas :) more

Resolved Question: Still love my ex gf. Really need some advice!?

Okay, so bare with me on this one, and i will take all the criticism you can give. Me and my ex only dated for 1 1/2 months, but from the get-go, we hit it off extremely well, we have so much in common, the chemistry was perfect, and she is an amazing person! However, when I realize i really like someone, i get anxious about the relationship, that tends to get in the way of my self-confidence, and i get very scared of losing that person. So scared, that most likely, i would end up doing something stupid and childish, and losing them. It was not different with this one. I thought she was acting distant, so one day, via MSN i asked her to "rate our relationship from 1-10" and that did it.It turned her off completely, and we wound up braking up. Anyways, we had some really bad fights mid-brake-up, and i said some mean things, which left her and me with a huge bitter taste in our mouths. I tried to get back together with her a couple times, and we would hang out, we would kiss, but then, later she would tell me it isn't gonna work. She would say that i am a great guy, who deserves someone who will return the exact same amount of love. HENCE, she did love me until i said the "rate the relationship" crap. Well, after the attempts, we got into another HUGE fight, and didn't talk for 2 weeks. But then, 3 days before her birthday, i invited her over, because i had something prepared for her. So, when she came over, she walked into a candle-lighted living room, a beautiful birthday card i wrote, a "fake-rose",and my guitar sitting on the chair. I gave her the fake-rose, with my cologne sprayed on it, and told her i didn't get a real one, because they die quickly, and i wanted her to have that rose forever! Gave her the card, which she loved, and played a beautiful song on the guitar, which i NAILED! It was a very complex song, and i learned it in like, 2 days.....After apologizing about all the evil things i said, and even braking-down for like 2 seconds, i told her i didn't want her to give me an answer right there and then, but, that i was still in love with her, cant stop thinking about her, and that, if she ever finds a way to forgive me, take me back, and take things real slow, that i am waiting for her, because i can't remember feeling this strongly about anyone before. She said we gotta work on our friendship first, because of all the fights, and take it from there, then invited me to go to the beach, and her son's birthday....i REALLY love this girl. Anyways, it's been 2 days. Now my question is.... From this point on, what should i do?????? Should i not look for her? Should i try and talk to her from time to time? ....i don't know what to do...Little help?? Thank you!! more

Resolved Question: How can I learn to down strum faster?

I have been playing guitar for a good while now and I can do all that jazzy strumming. My fatal flaw is I can't maintain a fast beat strum only going down. I'm trying to learn songs which keep up a steady beat that is most easily performed by just strumming downwards. The thing is, no matter how tight or loose I hold the pick, my hand and wrist both end up cramping up, causing me to stop completely. And it isn't really that fast. I can barely keep a pace which is seen as slow to most others. Is there an easy method as to helping me adapt to a faster down strum that works somewhat quickly? more

Resolved Question: Playing Sweet Child O' Mine for school rock band?

Alright, so I joined the school rock band earlier this year after someone left, and I'm one of 2 bass guitarists (the better of the 2, actually). So the other day the teacher suggested we play sweet child o' mine by guns n roses and because i knew how to play some of it i started playing an easy, slower part of one of the solos. She heard it and suggested that they might put me on guitar for that song... the thing is, even though I'd LOVE to do it, I don't know if I'd be able to play that well, and then I'd be letting down the bass side of the band too (cos the other guy sucks). so i've been playing guitar for a year and a half now. i wanted to learn a new song thats not to punk rockish this time. so i decided to learn wonderwall by oasis because i simply adoreeee that song! anyways, i got the chords down and everything, but i still can't seem to get it right. i know you guys are gonna tell me to be pacient and keep practicing, but how can you be pacient when you keep missing some chords or something. cuase then if i keep practicing it this way, i'll just learn it wrong. :( should i take it slower and not move on until i mastered part of it? more

Resolved Question: do you know of any program that slows down MP3 and MP4 songs? so i can learn the guitar parts to a song?

Resolved Question: Should I Buy a 7 string guitar or a 6 string?

k so ive been playing guitar for about 4-5 years. im just now finishing my sophomore year of high school. i first learned on on an accoustic the like a year later i got my mim stratocaster. so this has treated me very well so far. only thing is now i need more. my demands from a guitar are to high for ir now. so currently my friends are getting a band together. we all are into hardcore music and one of our favorite bands is KoRn. and lately most of our ideas invole some form of dropped tuning. so im very much considering a 7 string to solve this issue. my price range is $1000 tops. I am also mainly looking at Ibanez and Schecter. so any info on the best that those two brands offer for under $1000 would be good. also i love to solo as well. would playing a 7 string slow me down or not effect my lead? also im probally not going to need a tremolo. i just hear they are cool and fun but, they are really anoying to deal with a times and they are more $. so ya, any advice or help would be great. more

Resolved Question: Shy or unattracted?? [girl's perspective especially wanted!]?

Hey, I’m not sure what to think about this girl I really like… Basically I took her to my year 12 formal (last Friday) and things went ok. (We’ve met and talked online a fair bit before the formal). Anyway, we talked and I asked her to dance which was ok. Only 1-2 awkward silences. Anyway I really liked her, but when we talked and danced I was looking at her pretty much the whole time, and trying to get eye contact, but she kept looking away from me. Also she doesn’t really talk that loud so I had to lean closer to her to hear what she says. Also for ‘afters’ we went back to my friend’s house to relax, and everyone went to play guitar hero. So I said to her “Hey, can I borrow you for a sec? I wanted to show you something” but she was really hesitant to come with me, so I offered for her best friend (+ her date) to come with us. And my date was ok with that. So I led the way to the piano room, and everyone sat down (just the 4 of us), and I played “River flows in you” for her. I was looking at her for about 50% of the song and smiling to her. At the end of the song she looked semi-embarrassed, semi-uncomfortable but happy? And everyone said well done. Basically she had to leave straight after that (within 1 min) since her parents arrived (this was at 1am). I stayed at the afters until 2am, and on my way back home I got a txt saying “thankyou again. That music touched my heart.” So I replied “No problem :) glad u liked it. Thanks for an awesome night. Xx” So the final question is: Does she hate me/unattracted to me or was she just really shy? If she is attracted, where do i go from here? Should i just take it really slow? My friend is having an 18th in 3-4 weeks and she's coming, so i was planning on learning a new song for her..."A whole new world" by Aladdin ? Any opinions on this ? Also i noticed that she never starts convos with me on msn - i always have to say something first, and she'll continue it. Any way to reverse this ? or to hint that she can talk to me first ? Where to go from here/what to do from here? Sorry this was so long but opinions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Blues Guitar Beginner - > Not a Guitar Beginner though?

So anyways, I've been playing guitar for years but have only really played Rock and Metal (by metal I mean death metal [all shall perish sorta stuff], and some black metal [children of bodom]) I can shred like anybody, I have technique down pat and intense speed, also musical knowledge. However; my soloing abilities are METAL... meaning I basically do huge runs up and down scales and modes, and sweep pick arpeggios and chords, I don't really do a terrible amount of other things. I mean, I'll occasionally throw in a bend or whatnot, but mostly just fast stuff. I want to start playing slower bluesy stuff with more feeling, and then incorporate my speed into it and do some Blues Shred. Any idea where I should begin when learning the blues? I know all the scales and such, I'd really just like a reference as to who I should listen to. I know a lot of blues musicians as well, but I'm not sure which ones to start out with. Any suggestions are appreciated! Also, links to websites that might give short lessons on blues bending techniques would be helpful as well! ^_^ more

Resolved Question: What is your guitar experience?

When you were just learning it at first? What age did you start? How was it for you? Was it tough? What are the hindrances that kinda slowed down your learning to play it? I'm 18 and I decided I want to play the guitar. I'm passionate about music, and now I'm just waiting for my money in order to buy one and get started. My dad said I'm already old and I should have started sooner, but I don't want ot be discouraged. I just want to listen to you guys. ^^ Thank you!! more

Resolved Question: Wrists clicks lightly, what can cause it?

If I hold my wrist straight and move it backwards towards myself, it makes a really light clicking sound. Its barely audible unless its quiet, but its odd. I noticed it quite a long time ago, can't remember exactly how long though. I've never experienced any pain with it, or any feeling discomfort within my wrist. It just clicks. It does it more often if the movement is fast, like a flick, and a little less if its just a slow bend backwards. It will also never seem to click if I do the same movement when my fingers are in a fist-shape. If I put a finger or two on my wrist (as if I was feeling my pulse, but with hand palm-down), on the opposite side of where the ball joint is (so, left side on my right, right side of my left) I can feel something move very slightly as I bend my wrist, no idea really what. Since there's no pain or discomfort I'd probably just ignore it, especially since its done it for a while, but I've been playing guitar a little while now and just started to try to learn it more seriously, and since that involves a lot of fast wrist movement etc. it worries me a bit if my wrists might become weaker as I get older or something. Oh, and I'm 19 and I've never noticed any other problems with my wrist, I've never seriously injured/broken either of them or anything either. Is it anything to really worry about? Or something I might just grow out of? I'm guessing I should probably try to click them as little as possible? Lol. Any ideas would be appreciated, if its nothing potentially serious it'd be nice to stop worrying. more

Resolved Question: My right hand's a lot faster than my left hand.I want to play guitar. What should I do?My left hand's so heavy?

I've been playing keyboard 10 years as a hobby. In keyboard your right hand plays all of the main, fast melodies while your left deals with chords, so you right hand becomes very fast... My left is so damn heavy, slow. It's kinda retarded. So what should I do now that I want to learn how to play guitar? It's all upside down for me. Is this normal? I mean is this something that everyone experiences when deciding to play guitar, or unlike me do most of the people have their left hands stronger than their rights? more

Resolved Question: I just realized that I have a GIBSON LES PAUL STUDIO!!! BRAND NEW, why am I not excited though?

Star this question if it is a good one. Ok, so I was 16 and worked for 3 years at a grocery store (bagboy and stocker) and I was in a band and did the whole punk garage band thing, and well now I'm 24 and starting med school, and this guitar I haven't touched in honesty 5 years. I was browsing some cheap fender stratacoustics ($300) because for some odd reason I played one in a music store like 4 years ago and just really liked it, and I couldn't explain why. Now that I'm older, I was browsing ebay for the stratacoustic and was then pondering... shouldn't I be happy I have a les paul? Am I crazy? Shouldn't I be ecstatic that I actually shelled out $1400 bucks on something that was actually a decent guitar? Do I have the thinking reversed? I have the "dream guitar" but its not appealing to me. Should I make myself like it? Should I keep it locked up in its protective case and just buy a used strat for like $200 off ebay since I won't phase last for longer than a few weeks? I fell in love with piano, and play several hours per month. I just thought about guitar recently and wondered if it is worth learning again? I used to be very good--trust me--practiced 4 hours a day and was the best in my school at speed-metal and routinely "stole" good members from rival bands, like the best drummer, etc... Now I suck at guitar (haven't played in 5 years) and that gibson lespaul sorta symbolizes the skill that i abandoned and lost. I will never be able to love that guitar because I'll never be that good again (i don't think its physically possible, my hands have slowed down, my brain has slowed down, and its part of growing old). If I play the les paul, I'll judge my skill. If I play the randomly nice sounding stratacoustic, I will play for enjoyment and without and pressure. Can anyone share a similar story of something in life that is similar to this? I can pull from a parallel story, since I doubt there are other people with my exact problem. So I'm putting this into the philosophy section of Yahh answers. Thanks in advance for each response! more

Resolved Question: I need help on being happy, I can't find anything I'm good at?

I don't want to seem like a complaining teen and I belive that there are better options then using a computer. Thing is I alredy tried em, I'm turning 18 in April , I live on my own and I work obviously. I didn't get a chance to finish due to being kicked out of both my parents and grandparents places. Although I am taking correspondence schooling it's just taking a while, I never visit people and I'm always at work or home, I don't drink and drugs arnt in my life..tho it's been very tempting recently by how people seem more happy when on them. I been to therapists and on anti depressants just to make things worse. I don't have tv or computer to waste my time on , tried learning guitar for a few years only to suck at it makin me feel worse. All I want is to find something I'm good at but when I do try anything (and I don't give up very easily , I keep at it for a few months) I just end up bad or suckin at it... Which evidently brings me back down further. Since 16 on my own I have noticed I have matured quite a bit but as I time goes on I justget brought down more...I don't no what to do. I do enjoy life but I can't just sit back and enjoy it . Just seems like I'm moving to fast and I can't slow down because I need to stay alive pay rent, bills and food as most of you already have to deal with . I just want to be happy...at least no I'm good at somthing and have a place in this world.I also forgot to mention I have a girlfriend she loves me I know and I love her to,she is the reason I'm still sane but I feel guilty and lonly after she goes home and I don't understand why... I need someone to help me. I'm falling apartI just want to be good enough at somthing for myself something I can look back on and say "I did alright" somthing that reminds methat I am capable of achieving something and doing a good job of it. I don't care about what people think of me because I live for myself... I just can't live happy more

Resolved Question: Beginner guitar player-Where do I go next?

I've already got down a handful of chords down, but still practicing bar chords. Learned how to read music, play scales, and other basics. What's wrong is that I'm still stuck practicing the same basics, knowing I can learn new things. But I don't know where to start. There's resources all over, but there's so much information that I can't find the most reliable source that I can use to learn more effectively. So I guess my question is, what's a great place that I can learn more from where I am? I'm not interested in playing mainstream songs or emulating other works. I want to use the knowledge of music I gather to create my own work. Also, I like jazz music, and I want to play slow, mellow and calming instrumentals. more

Resolved Question: Why do my parents treat me this way?

OK, first off, I got a 68 on a test yesterday, and he was like, "YOUR A JACKA*S AND YOURE STUPID!!!!!!" And he alsays says I cant do stuff that I can. Once, our router wouldnt turn on and it was broken, and I knew the problem. It wasnt set up properly. So im like, " I see the problem. Will reinstalling the whole router work?" and hes like, "Shut up. You dont know what your doing." So im like ok. Also, he threatens to hit me and does. He'll say things like if you dont shut up ill beat the sh*t out of you. once he grabbed my hand and i tried to pulll away and hes like DONT F*CKING PULL AWAY FROM ME ILL PUNCH THE SH*T OUT OF YOU AND YOU WILL BE PICKING YOUR TEETH UP FROM THE GROUND!!!!. Also, he hits me. he drinks every night. and when i asked him to slow down he got all pissed. also, i play the guitar, and when i was showing him a song i learned, he was like thats decent, well, ok i guess, but if you want to ACTUALLY play good, i suggenst you tune it. and actually practice. I PRACTICE 1 HOIUR A DAY~~~~~!!!!!!~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALSO, he gives me no opinion as a person. Its basically like he has to raise me and when im 21 i can do whatever the f*ck i want. He says that i am his son and i live under his roof (no problem there) and because of that i am not entitled to a valid opinion. and he says that i dont deserve respect from people. I play the guitar and the songs i wanna learn are somewhat physically complicated, so i think if i can slow the songs down i can get the solos and stuff and work up my speed. but i need to know how to do that first. one boy on youtube said he uses Windows Media Player to slow songs down to learn them. my question is, how exactly would you do that? more

Resolved Question: Why is it that I can change guitar chords fast but not slow?

I have been learning the guitar for about 2 months with a private instructor. He taught me a song called Canon in A Major. He gave me the chords then told me there was a 4 beat pause in between. I tried this but when it came to the F bar chord and the C bar chord I would always mess up and slow down. But when I used a strumming pattern from a exercise which is DDUUDU. when I used this for the song I switched chords much faster and easier. It was like my fingers knew where to go=] Is this normal?? The song chords are A Major E Major F Bar Chord C Bar Chord D Major A Major and E Major more

Resolved Question: Am I trying to speed up my guitar speed too soon?

I started learning the pentatonic scale 10 days ago and to start with I played it slowly for a couple of days, then i practiced it quickly but not as fast as possible, then after about a week i tried playing it faster and yesterday i was trying to play it as fast as possible, I've been stuffing it up heaps now, I practice 5-10hrs most days. should I expect to play it so fast after a week or does it take months, am i better off playing slowly now and speeding up later? I timed how fast I'm trying to play now and its all the way up the scale and back down, repeating the 6th note and the 12th, in about 4 seconds, I can't get it perfectly clear and continuous sound but I can get through it without missing any notes like once for every 5 times i try. i was doing it this speed a few days ago and getting it right every time, but i slowed down for a while to get it perfect then ive sped back up, am i trying to learn it too fast? im not naturally good at playing, i have to practice lots to get stuff rightyou kidding!? randy rhoads guitar playings still cool shreds great, I dont want to be like slayer speed though coz it sounds fast but crap, van halen speed's good, eg running with the devil solo, its not shred but its still fast and if i can play like that ill be happyish more

Resolved Question: Is there any finger stretching exercises or something like that? [Keyboard players]?

My fingers are kinda small and arent really able to go stretch across to certain keys. And I know that my friend did some sort of stretching technique or something so his fingers got more flexible. He did it so he could reach across the fret board better [guitar] Im learning keyboard, and ive done the little stuff [Mom told me i have to start slow so i did mary had a little lamb/Silent Night/etc] and its not helping me at all and i feel stupid. I can do the intro part to 'Always - Blink 182' Its not the real thing, but im alternating between [GC][GD][GE][GC] on the 2nd octave and it sounds like a more acousticish sound. <- found it by accident. and now today im working on 'You Found Me - The Fray' and ive almost got the intro down. <-watching tutorials Im in a band, and i wanna do sort of like the fray does where its based around piano and tht sort of sound. more
