Open Question: How long will it take my to learn guitar?
I've learnt how to tune, hold (properly) and play G major, C major and D major chords (but cant switch between them quickly) on a acoustic guitar. This took me about a hour and a half (split over two days) using internet tutorials. How long would it take me to be able to play a few basic songs reasonablely? I'm just doing this for fun so I don't want to take any lessons. moreResolved Question: Begginer guitar player looking for advice?
I want to teach myself how to play guitar. Sooo i have some questions 1. Does anyone have any advice for me first off? I am a COMPLETE begginer btw. 2. What are some steps i should take to learn guitar? 3. DDoes anyone know any books/websites that might be helpful? 4. Suggestions of what kind of accoustic should i get? im thinking about the Yamaha fg700s dreadnought, but what do i knowww lol 5. My brother has an electric, would it be ok or difficult for me to practice on it? 6. Lastly, how long did it take you to become intermediate at guitar if you play? How many hours a week would you say you practiced? Do you love it, or just like it? Thanks so muchhh! moreOpen Question: Can I become a piano player or a piano teacher?
Im 17 years old & I have always loved music. I have been playing the guitar for the past 7 years & I can play anything on the acoustic & the electric. I thought myself how to play & when I went to 1 lesson, they told me there was no need for lessons because I have a natural gift with reading & playing music. I have really grown fond of the piano. I have never played it, though I want to learn. I think I want to try & master it. How can I become a piano teacher? Is it to late to start learning now? Is the piano harder to learn, than than the guitar? Do I have a chance of becoming a great piano player if I start off now? & I mean GREAT? How long should I practice for & should I teach myself or get thought? How long will it take to be able to teach the piano & where should I go & what should I do? I Hope you can answer my questions. Please write whatever you want & please try & give me some good advise. Thanks :) xxx. moreVoting Question: how long would it take me to learn guitar?
i want to play guitar. I am in a SCAPA program and i take muscianship theory so i know my chords, grand staff, triads, scales, and now we are composing the treble clef parts of two part inventions. Im learning by myself, and using musictheory.net guitar trainer since i cant afford a tutor, Im playing it for church so ear playing is m ybest bet. I already play a treble clef wind instrument. I generally catch on fast. How long do you think it would take for me to learn Guitar well enough to play songs during praise and worshipi aslo know the notes of all the strings each octave all sharps and flats and naturals...so far lol moreVoting Question: Poll: Have you heard the song "Stairway to Heaven"? And the solo?
Learned it note for note, and HAVE had it in my back pocket since the summer of 1977 when my cousin originally laid it out for me in like a 3 part process; and it worked really good I think...I don't normally give guitar lessons; however, in '97, someone that caught us while making a living on the road,,approached me and asked IF, I would be interested in teaching him...22year old dude from Chicago,,,name J.T..(We are still friends to this day),, but anyway,,, I didn't think he was ready really and I was actually right; but when I got home to south lake tahoe, Ca where AM not living at this particular time; but usually DO, as it is my home, and have lived there just up from the clubs @ the Nevada/California state line...So,, after a couple of weeks,,I get a call from J.T..who thought he'd move on out to Tahoe.. Big change for him being from the south part of chicago...but he had a love of the blues..and my cousin who IS a blues man..(Lonnie Mack)..Lonnie did make a regular stop at "Legends"..(Buddy's joint), and JT saw us there,,,although, he just happend upon me, at a booth, foolin' with someone's accoustic,,,and trying to get it to take a tuning,,and stay... So, I was using "Stairway to heaven" as a "control"...and he heard me..and I CAN imitate J. Page's version And one of my own,,and have actually been doing it since high school in the mid '70's when I'd play the whole tune,,,about 12 or 13 minutes long when laid down properly,,,and sang with the right "Feel",,etc...I have actually officially taught that song to about 5 people in the last 30+ years,,,and the last one WAS J.T,,,and he paid me a total of $750.00, but I had to give him a whole new way of aproaching the instrumant,,,And "Undo" some really bad habits that he'd picked up somewhere;;So, we spent a good 3 weeks 'De-Programming" his incorrect aproach to the guitar in general,,,as it prevented him from being able to "Move on" alone..and teach himself stuff, and he couldn't grasp what changes, and how subtle, and chilly the whole mellow thing was, when it came to getting his abiltiy to play with a, or as part of, maybe is what I meant to say.. of a Unit...or team,,,and if enough "Nare-Do-Wells" showed up in the same place, then maybe even a quick "Thow-it-together band"...and I even layed out the basics or the basic Nashville picker's # system that they,,them..and I'm not ashamed to say I myself have better success with that old number way of dealing with other players..it's just a better way... You know what i'm talking about,,??? Like if we didn't know each other; but we could still just walk on each other's bandstand and earn a night's work because of the # system...?? Like,,I turn to you and simply say: this song's an Old Merle Haggard thing called "Footlights",,,(for the "Chance that you Might already know of the song..what it sounds like, or anything at all that could help...),,,so,,let's say you say "I'm not a walking, fossil steve,,and I have never heard of your ancient monk's chant......So,, we're lucky 'cause even though I don't actually read music near well enough to be of any practical use when entertaining for paychecks and percs....BUT..I can look at you and even if it's noisy and wildly busy in the club...we will be fine, even without ever having practiced together at any time in the past..I'll say,,,"Merle's Footlights"..in "D",,, go 1, 4, 5, with a 7th,,,get "Out of the way" for a lead break that my Telecaster Master over there's going to ease into from HIS que, that's coming from Bob,,"Grizzly" Smith,,,my Pedal Steel Guitar genious...(Watch out though; as this only applies with Bob, during actual sets throughout the night, and the genious thing will go away later,,,and the opposite effect replaces the other...Anyway,,,after the Guitar's lead break,,there's one verse, and one more run at the chorus..however?? just as Steve wraps his solo,,we're going to modulate on full step...alright with that so far??? Remember,,we started in "D"..right?? So,,You must also either be a, or become a,,singer of harmony parts,,as I'm not going to take bread out of our pockets just because one of us can't sing harmony...You'll find that to be the case in virtually every situation, where there's a club owner, and pickers, that do it as thier sole form of making a living.. So,,back to the quick rundown for the opening number of the nights 3rd set.. after the lead break, there's a full step modulation, You sing 5th part with me on the very last 2 lines of the song...And just follow, and watch my eyes,,,and within' a week or so we'll sound like we've been playing with one another for many years... Right on/??? Anyway...that's pretty much what J.T got for the "Really just sybolic" 500 bones..(I always get something out of teaching a pretty much of complete beginner what I've been toiling with since the summer of '68, when I was 7 years old,,and got my 1st electric guitar at the "Flea Market" in San Jose', CA,,, for 20 bucks,,,An old "Kay",,and an old SearsSilvertone amp..1/12,,and almost no controls, of any kind... So,,I've got "some" experience under my belt that does tend to make things easier not for me only,, but everbody leans on me from time to time, and It 'doesn't bother me man.. Who do I think I am anyway??? You know what I'm sayin'.. we're all in it to sound FANTASTIC, and for the drunks, and customers,,,to drink more,,and more,, that's what we're technically there for...it helps to remember that..And if your thinking "Oh **** that,,I don't want to deal witht that ****...here's the thing that real music player's must face sooner or later..and that's "Do you want to do this for your weekly bread,,,pay your bills, and send the kids to school, etc..??? Or,, do you want to work at K-Mart,,and meet us on Friday & Saturday ONLY??? Well,, then sorry dude; gotta let you go on your way..because we've chosen to do this for more money than Sears can pay us for selling new tires,,or working at some "Jive-Turkey" music store,,pedaling stripedaling strings and giving away picks to Johnny the Trombone student that hangs out at the store, pounding on one of the Drum Kits until we all want to choke the little turd,,and his trombone... I choose to show up for 4, maybe 5 sets a night,,,4,,maybe 5 nights a week.. Scale's usually around $500.00 a week these days; although I make Much Much, more when we hit the road,,,,that's a whole nuther trip,,,Are you through with this email now??? Steve with the Stairway to Heaven Licks, & tricks... elcamaro72@hotmail.com Bear in mind man; I wasn't able to read your whole email...and took you to be pretty much a novice learner young player..No offense...I came back and used the "Edit" thing on here to help me explain why this letter is so ,well,,the way it is...I was worried that you wouldn't follow my "Jive talkin',,which I tend to do..(I still call pickers "Cats" sometimes... I know I am a dinosaur, and that I'm one for the road... but,,that's show biz,,,Right?? One thing..zzzwhy I"mOne thing..zzzwhy I"m back here...I have been laying that Stairway lick..well, all the licks,,of all the different parts of the song as it winds it's way all the way to "And she's buying a Stairway.......to...hea.....vennnnnn/// ziiiiiiiiiipzaaaaaaaaaaptidahdahdaydadad… whatever..I'm kind of "Bozo'd" tonight man... but; my 1st reaction when I read your whole email was "NO, NO,,it's NOT that hard man,,, however..even in your email,,you remind me that '1977 was a little over 30 years ago,,,,and once the "Cat was out of the bag"...that I knew that particular tune, the WAY I did,, well, you can imagine what happens next... before you know it the same clown is standing on a cocktail table howling "FREEBIRD" over and over; and I usually give in to that request as well. As it took Almost as long to learn the proper way to deliver that beautiful song without wrecking it... "Less is more" if you can dig what I'm shoveling on that line of thought..?? It's always been about the quality for me..and my family..of which almost all play for thier bread. And have as long as my memory's started forming...so,,,"FreeBird" was a "Must Learn" for me back then too.. BUT,,I have some how lost my "Feel",,and I can't get a decent "Freebird" out of the old wooden box without a month or so to "Woodshed" ...all of them for that matter... I'm zipped man... email me IF perhaps you want to discuss any other musical interests's ,,as I have a few of my own lately and not a soul that has the foggiest idea what I'm "Lippin'" about.. Later man! Halsey... moreResolved Question: How hard will it be for a trombone player like me to learn other brass instruments?
I've been playing trombone for a few years (since 5th i'm in 9th now) and would like to play the tuba and trumpet as well. my friend plays tuba and at his house i tried it and it didn't seem to hard. i was able to play a B flat scale no problem and my articulations were pretty clean after a little while. i'm not looking to be a crazy player, i just want to get pretty good and be able to do jazz improvisations and stuff like that. another reason i want to play tuba is because my school band's tuba player is a senior and next year we will be tuba-less. how long to you think it will take me to get good at the tuba and trumpet? music theory and reading is not an issue for me since i play piano and guitar, and i'm pretty deep into jazz theory. i guess i want to get deeper into the trumpet than tuba, because in order to improvise on it i'll have to learn all sorts of different modes. i tend to pick things up quickly, and i can't image that buzzing into a trumpet and tuba mouthpiece can be that much different than a trombone mouthpiece. so how long do you think it will take me? moreVoting Question: I'm a dissapointment to my mother?
I've always loved my mother a lot. But why can't she ever be proud of me? I've accomplished so many things like winning basketball season, soccer season, and also cheer leading finals. But why can't she ever be proud of me? I must admit I'm not a mother's dream. I have short hair (like a guy) I hate make-up, I prefer guitar and sports over dance and ballet, and I look like a guy! Does my mother find it weird that me and my father are so much alike? Or does she just find it weird to have a daughter who hates wearing dresses and skirts? I know my dad is proud of me because now he feels like he has 3 sons who likes sports like him and is learning karate (like him when he was little.)Or maybe she finds it freaky when she wakes up in the morning and see me and my little brother both drinking out of a milk carton. (Ok. Don't say this is gross or anything it's just that I'm so tired in the morning and I'm to lazy to pour it in a glass and clean up after wards, I'm usually in a hurry... And as for my little brother I think he's taking after me or something I don't know it's just that he enjoys copying me for some reason.) Or maybe it freaks her out because I look nothing like my mother but alot like my father (or at least the skinnier version... no offense dad...) But at least I'm trying my best! I'm trying so hard to smile when she puts me in a dress and powders makeup on my face and plays with my short hair. And I'm also trying hard to cook, although I must admitt it is fun cooking in the kitchen but the only problem is cleaning up afterwards. And when I come home I try to smile when my mom sprays her strong smelling perfume on me. ( I guess she thinks I smell... Bad...) I guess she really wants a girly daughter but I don't know how long I can take this, (I'm skipping sports alot lately) because I want to make my mother happy. Should I give up my boy-like ways and act like an girl for once? And, how can I make my mother proud without making my dad feel bad? moreResolved Question: I want to play the drums!?
Hey guys. Ok, so I've been playing guitar for about 2 years now, but recently I've been very interested in playing the drums. But theres no way I'm going to stop playing guitar, I'm also a self taught guitarist, I feel thats the best way to learn because I think everyone has there own style of playing their instrument. So I will also be a self taught drummer, so I just want to know a few basic things from you guys, like, what is a good beginner kit, but i also want a electric kit as my parents will not let me get a acoustic kit. I'm 13, how long do you think it will take for me to be considered a "Good Drummer". Thanks Guys! Thanks "Out Of Her Head She Sang..." moreResolved Question: Question for you guitar players out there?
I've been playing for about two years and I'm starting to learn how to shred. I have some questions -How long did it take you to actually shred? Did you have to practice a long time? -Do you have any tips? I'm trying to learn by myself so some tips would be GREAT! Thanks! moreResolved Question: How long does it take to learn to play the guitar?
I really want to be able to play songs, like folky type indie music that I listen to so i can sing along. moreResolved Question: How can I be less anti-social and shy?
I'm an 18 year old male and I've always had a problem with communication, dating, being outgoing, depression, etc. I've always been shy and I haven't really talked much all throughout school. I don't have a lot of friends. The ones I do have seem to never want to hang around with me because I'm quiet, nerdish, and a loser to most people. It feels like they are ashamed of be. People are always telling me to "Be Social" and "Stop being so quiet. Be yourself." But no one ever invites me to do anything or have any fun. I'm not one to invite myself to do anything because I feel like I would just be tagging along and not really wanted there. I've had awesome grades through high school. I got accepted to a great college. It hasn't all been bad, but I feel like I'm missing out on most of my life. I usually spend most of my time studying, watching TV, or playing my guitar. But I know that some of my "friends" are going out bowling, to the movies, to the mall, or just hanging out at random places. Most of my friends aren't single, but I have been for a long time and it gets lonely and depressing knowing that no one wants you. I will admit that I am too technical when I do talk sometimes and I guess part of the reason I'm single is because I have a slight weight problem being that I am a little overweight. My self-esteem and confidence are really low. I don't even want to go to my final high school prom because I don't want to go alone and sit by myself like I did last year. This kind of thing is slowly ruining my life. I don't know how I am going to succeed in college if I don't do something about it. It is also ruining my educational and career dreams. I've always wanted to be a doctor so I can help people and learn about medical illnesses and cures, but if I don't learn how to be more social and outgoing with people than I am going to fail everything I try. Someone please help me. Give me some advice or something. I'll even take a pep talk just ask for my IM or post yours lol. It would be nice to have someone to talk to though. Someone who understands what I'm going through. moreResolved Question: How long would it take to learn how to play the snare drum?
Im going into high school next year and I signed up for drumline. I can play guitar but I've never really had any experiance with drums. The band teacher at the high school that im gunna to be going to says alot of people who have joined the drumline hadn't had any experiance either, and some without any instrument experiance at all. So the band teacher at my school says it would probably be a good idea to take drum lessons during the summer. How long on average do you think it takes to learn to play the snare drum? And if you do play it, how long did it take you? Thank You! moreVoting Question: HUH? SO DOES HE LIKE ME OR DOESN'T HE?! confused :S?
I was almost positive he liked me. He offered to teach me guitar and eat dinner at the dhall some times during the week. He also invited me to watch a movie with his friend but she was off partying and never showed up (the movie was because we couldn't find time for a guitar lesson). He offered to drive me after learning I biked next to a highway in the cold at night. The same night we had a guitar lesson and he made plans with friends so that it wouldn't last super long and I could party after (our last lesson was 3 hours after 9pm on a saturday night). He offered to let leave my guitar in his room so I could party and pick it up the next day. They went to McDonalds and he asked if I wanted something and offered to bring it to me (even though I was going to a different building on campus) and when I paid him back he was kinda surprised. He also let me know that he and a friend would be watching a movie later, so I dropped by. And after about 10 min of not responding on IM and a few hours of not responding via text he apologizes for taking so long (he was busy) yet never initiated those convos. He also asked me twice if I met any "striking young gentleman recently" told me he kinda has something with someone who he likes (not her) when I asked him if he likes one of his friends, then he asked how "my gentlemen" were and I told him I really liked one guy (but didn't say it was him). So thinking he liked me but was too shy to do anything, last night I went to go and make it clear that I liked him. I tried to kiss him but he held me back and told me that he was "kinda seeing someone" and "wants to stay friends." I'm not going to pursue him romantically or anything since he's with someone but if I try to hang out with him I'm going to feel like I'm pursuing him but he wants to stay friends. And if I find another guy I like and I think likes me I'll probably go for him instead. Should I wait until he contacts me again to hang out (I was normally the one tried to hang out with him, but he offered to teach me guitar)? Also, why didn't he say he doesn't like me "that" way? I'm really confused because I thought he liked me and I really like him. moreResolved Question: Deal with a best friend moving?
OK, so I'm 16 years old and a sophomore in high school. I just learned today through the grapevine that the guy whom I was best friends with for 7 or so years will be moving to Arizona here in May. We used to be inseperable from elementary school through middle school. We'd practically live at each others houses on the weekends and do all kinds of fun stuff around the neighborhood. We never got into arguments or fights, just good times through and through. I even remember making us making promises of going to the same college and being roommates. It was the by far the most fun years of my life, hanging out with this kid. Not only was he my best mate, but his parents were awesome too, and we had almost grown to be family. When high school came around, we slowly started going our seperate ways. By mid year freshman year, we stopped hanging out alltogether and rarely communicated. This likely occured because he entered the dating world long before I (I still really haven't too seriously) and took his musically more serious than I (we used to get together and "jam out" on weekends, he on guitar and I on drums), whereas I began identifyong with the "sports group" at school more. However, despite going our seperate ways there was and is absolutely no animosity between us. We still occassionally chat at school. But here I am a year after I stopped talking with him regularily, and I am still crushed to find out he is leaving. I guess it's just because my fondest memories are paling around with him, and knowing I will never see that person again in a matter of weeks. In a way I am glad our close relationship ended earlier, otherwise this woupd be even harder to go through I'm sure. I have never gone through a "loss" I guess you'd say like this before. I need some advice on how to get through this tough emotional time. Please help. moreResolved Question: WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TELL A GUY YOU LIKE HIM?
I'm pretty sure he likes me, he told me he likes someone (not her) when I asked him if he likes one of his friends, then he asked how the guy/guys I like were. He offered to teach me guitar and eat dinner at the dhall some time during the week. He also invited me to watch a movie with his friend but she was off partying and never showed up. And he's asked me if I met any "striking young gentleman recently" but I don't remember my answer, and offered to drive me after learning I biked next to a highway in the cold at night. And after about 10 min of not responding on IM and a few hours of not responding via text he apologizes for taking so long (he was busy) So the plan is I'm going to go to his room tonight with the premise of either "talking" for a couple minutes or just coming to see him or want to tell him something. (Which would you recommend?) And I'm going to talk to him for a couple minutes, then hug him, kiss him, and tell him I like him. Then I'll probably leave, I don't want to pressure him into responding right away. Is this a good way to tell him or should I do it another way? What do you think the best way is to tell someone you like them?Oh and we're kind of friends now so I don't want to mess that up if he doesn't feel the same.Oh and we're kind of friends now so I don't want to mess that up if he doesn't feel the same. moreResolved Question: Question about a guy I'm crushing on and currently talking to. Does he like me or not? What else should I know?
Here it goes: So there is this guy who I'm talking to. We didn't know each other at all, had no classes together, or lunch together, but I always wanted to talk to him, he looked like a humble guy, someone different and not to talk about very good looking. So for the next week, my friends were trying to help me out by giving me motivation, because I AM a VERY shy girl when it comes to men. And it took one of my friends to go tell him without me knowing that i wanted to talk to him (which scared the living peaches out of me) and I thought he was just going to walk away from that, but actually did want to talk to me as well, but on that day I left early and he approached me two days later when he had school. He looked hella nervous before he came to talk to me, and looked like he was about to walk away but then he said my name and that's where it all started (I had added him on my facebook, which is how he knows my name). I mean we talked and he asked me for my number. he text me the next day and we text for 8-9 hours straight. And it went very well. And we don't text often, and I kinda like that. We usually talk in person during school, and I give him a laugh sometimes in our convos and we basically talk about anything. At first it was getting to know each other questions. I mean whenever we text or talk, they're long convos, and I really enjoy talking to him, I mean, I guess I kinda like him now :]] But sometimes he doesn't text me and I text him. The last time i spoke to him was on a Friday and it's Sunday now. He hasn't text me since, and sometimes I wonder if I should text him, but I don't want to be obsessive, like text him every god dam hour and annoying him. I mean, I know I would hate that. And sometimes I feel maybe he doesn't like me, but then again he looked for me and sat down with me this Friday and we spoke. He loves my art and photography. And found out I can sing and I'm learning the guitar. I also know he sings as well, has an rnb group and he's a very dedicated person. He loves his family, hard worker. We both want to be teachers as well. We love music, but our music tastes are different, because...well I'm "a rocker" (i listen to industrial, metal, melodic death metal, hardcore, rock.roll, funk rock etc) according to him and he's the "ghetto kid" (rnb, rap and "everything"". But we share our music and he likes some bands I like and know as well =]] We can both drive, but we have no car. But the BIG question is, how long should I wait until our first date? Who is supposed to ask who out on a date (cuz he is kinda shy, but so am I >.<). I've never had a boyfriend, never dated...so I'm kind of new to all this guy stuff. And he's the first guy I never knew who I got to know. Sometimes I think I'm doing things wrong, maybe I should try to text him more often? or I don't know. Sometimes he acts so normal. Is the fact that we still aren't making body contact ok?(e.g. hugging or kiss on the cheek). And remember, it's only been a week and a half we've been talking. So anything i missed or anything I should know? Please enlighten me.He also cut class just to talk to me on Friday, I didn't like that, but it felt pretty cool :) moreVoting Question: What instrument should I take lessons for next?
I'm taking drum lesson right now, at "Sabado's school of music" and I'm in a band where I both drum and sing. I'm trying to compose all the music for every instrument, and the instruments in the band right now are guitar, bass, and drums. We're hoping to get keyboardist, then a brass instrument (like trumpet or saxophone), and when we record the guitarist overdubs so there are 2 guitars and we're going to get a second guitarist for live shows soon. I'm getting pretty advanced with drums, I know guitar chords, and I know basically how to make a bass rhythm out of root notes, but I don't know anything about single note melodies with guitar or bass. I own a drum set (but it needs to be fixed up, its kind of destroyed right now), a piano, and an acoustic guitar. Next year is my sophomore year of high school and they offer guitar lessons as an elective, so I'm taking it, but I don't know exactly how much they'll teach me and if I should get serious lessons. Bass is my favorite instrument and is really fun, but isn't as useful right now for composing especially since I don't own and can't afford a bass. When I can afford and have time for more lessons for another instrument, which instrument should I choose? Guitar --Pros: I own a guitar, I understand it, and I can compose with it --Cons: I'm already going to take a class on it next year anyway, so it may be a waste, (although I don't know how much the class will teach me) Piano --Pros: One of the best instruments to compose with, due to the grand staff and how easy it is to do both a melody and rhythm --Cons: I already have a book on piano chords and scales, lessons could be a waste Vocals --Pros: My voice could really use lessons, I'm kind of a horrible singer --Cons: They might only tell me stuff I've already learned from books and the internet Bass --Pros: My favorite instrument, really fun to play, and I'd like our songs to have more bass-melody instead of just rhythm --Cons: I don't own a bass and lessons wouldn't really be that useful Trumpet or Saxophone --Pros: This way when we get a brass instrument player, I can tell them what to play and have control over that part of every song --Cons: I don't own a trumpet or saxophone, and it isn't that useful for composing the overal song, only for composing that instrument's part Help me choose please! Sorry for the really long wall of text!I know a lot of guitar chords already. Not just the like seven essenial ones but several advanced onesand power chords, what I have trouble with is single noes and barre chords. Also, recommending thins because they'll take me farther if I play it in a band doesn't really make a difference, I already both play drums and sing in a band, I wouldn't be playing any of these other instruments in a band, I'd only use them to compose the songs for the other band members. moreResolved Question: PLEASE READ AND COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
This is the first chapter of my book. Does it move too fast? I looked up at my wall and let my eyes fill with angry tears. How could he just up and leave? He was a star now, but I missed him. Charles’s picture hung everywhere. I had to be his biggest fan. He was my best friend. He was just a pop star now. I wanted my best friend back. On the posters he was posing, sometimes with his shirt off and his awesome abs showing. My heart pounded hard every time I looked into the eyes of each of his posters. Man, was I in love with him. Charles was coming back though. He was staying for two weeks this summer. Maybe I could convince him to come home permanently. My tears spilt over and I sobbed into my pillow. A knock sounded at my door and I wiped my eyes. “Come in!” I called. The door opened and a familiar face popped in. It was Charles. I jumped off my bed and threw my arms around him. He hugged me to his chest. “Someone’s a big fan,” he put me down. His voice was deeper than it had been six months ago. He walked around my room, looking at each of the posters. “You have nearly every poster made of me,” he turned back to me and hugged me again. “I missed you,” I mumbled. “I missed you too,” he let go of me. He looked over at my guitar. “You started playing?” He smiled at me. I nodded and picked up the guitar. I sat on my bed and adjusted my fingers. “I first saw you under the stars, when I started school In Seymour,” I started strumming the guitar. “I don't tell you how I feel cause . . .” I smiled. “No one is there to help me send.” Charles sat next to me. His foot tapped to the beat and he smiled at my guitar. It was just like his. I changed chords a few times then started the chorus. “I think of you every single day, I think about you everyday. I like how you are a sweet, loving person, it's a pleasure to be sad around you,” this was true for me. This whole song was true, I loved him so much. He was the best friend I met in grade school outside the school at night. Charles was still tapping his foot, but now his hand slapped against his knee to the beat as well. “My life would be complete if we were together. When I started school In Seymour, I could only hope that we could be together. Naivety plaguing me,” I sung louder. Charles’s face was full of approval. Both of his feet tapped in unison, his hand tapped against his knee, and his other hand was resting on my shoulder. “I think of you every single day, I think about you everyday. I like how you are a sweet, loving person. A fight here or there but they weren’t that bad,” I strummed the guitar on my last chord and looked over at Charles again. “Wow,” he chuckled. I blushed and took out a small book from under my mattress. “These are my songs,” I handed it to him. He flipped through the book and smiled at me. “Wow, you wrote all of these while I was gone?” he got up and looked around my room again. “I didn’t notice a few minutes ago, but you changed your room since I was last here. Besides the posters I mean,” he looked at my bed. I had changed the covers from blue to red, one of my favorite colors. “Yeah, and I got a new desk, and added a couch in the corner,” I pointed to the couch. “Do you think you could teach me that song you were singing? I’d like to learn it,” he plopped down on my couch. I shrugged and nodded, looking into his hazel eyes. His brown hair was neatly cut, like it had been before he left. I was glad that there was one thing that didn’t change about him. I stared into his eyes for the longest time. I didn’t really notice when he got up and waved a hand in front of my face. I shook my head and blinked a few times, trying to clear my head. “You okay?” he sat down next to me again. “Yeah,” I took a deep breath. “Here, let me teach you some of the chords,” I adjusted my fingers on the strings again. “Not right now. Your graduation is tomorrow, right?” he leaned against my headboard. “Yeah,” I leaned my guitar against the wall and pulled my knees up to my chest. “Well, I have an early graduation gift for you,” he reached into his pocket and pulled out a little box. He handed it to me and I opened it. It was a little bracelet in it with my name on it. “Do you like it?” he slipped it onto my wrist. My name, Elizabeth, was carved into the silver. “I love it,” I gasped. He patted my hand and leaned back against the headboard again. We talked for a while, catching up on what he had been doing in Hollywood and what he was doing after he left. It pained me to know he was leaving in only two weeks. “You know, I’m going on a world tour when I leave. I’m going to Hollywood first to pack though, then I’m going to Italy, Japan, China, Russia, then tour around here,” he tucked his arms behind his head. “Really?” my heart hammered in my chest. I wasn’t going to see him for ages. He nodded. “Yep,” he got up and leaned against the wall. “I really don’t like being a pop star sometimes. All I want toHe nodded. “Yep,” he got up and leaned against the wall. “I really don’t like being a pop star sometimes. All I want to do is put on a few shows around the country, not go on a world tour,” he sunk to the ground. I changed the subject. “Did you ever get a girlfriend in Hollywood?” He looked up. His eyes were suddenly filled with tears. I jumped off my bed and knelt beside him. I hugged him and he hugged me back. “What’s wrong?” I pulled back. “I did have a girlfriend. She dumped me right before I came here. I told her I was excited to come here because I would get to see you, then she dumped me,” he wiped his eyes. “It’ll be okay,” I patted his shoulder. “Thanks,” he smiled. moreResolved Question: How long does it take to decently take to play the piano?

I started in May, and I am doing my debut in May this year. My teacher says that I will do grade one in December and then grade two in May next year. She says she thinks I will be ready for it, seeing as I am a fast learner, I practice non-stop, and I have a David Bowie guitar book which is advanced, and I can play it, although it does take me a while to learn each song... do you think I will be ready for grade two so soon? I have just realised that I can play barre chords.... Thanks in advance :) moreResolved Question: Time with spouse vs. time alone--what is fair?
My wife and I are in our late 20's. We have been married for 2.5 years. We have been through many arguments, but we have also had many wonderful moments--which I gather is normal. We moved to a new place for my job, so we don't know very many people here. My wife works 15 hours a week to help support our finances a little bit, but for the most part, she's at home. She is diligent, does all the chores, bills, cooks, and cleans. Since it's just the two of us, it's not much--but I still appreciate it. She manages to find time to read online articles, keep in touch with friends and family. She is telling me about a wonderful book she is reading right now; she goes shopping for gifts, does arts and crafts such as scrapbooking, finds ways to decorate our place, etc (while I'm at work). I appreciate the things she does, but in a way, I am envious. I don't remember the last time I was able to read a book. I have voiced to her interest in learning new hobbies. I am particularly interested in learning guitar, writing short stories, learning how to program flash games, martial arts. She tells me she supports me, but whenever I tell her I need alone time in these endeavors, she becomes defensive--claiming that I don't want to spend time with her, or that I long to be single again. We spend entire weekends together. I promised her, happily, when we married, I would take her out on a date every Saturday--or if we don't go out, we'd spend time together in some form. I continue to keep my word. She suggested a new tradition on Sundays--we cook breakfast together. She likes to sleep in on weekends, but I, being a morning person, wake up early. So I try to do 'me things' in the morning when I'm not too exhausted, but she expects me to spend time with her when she wakes up till she sleeps (which means staying up late--being awake for nearly 24 hours on some occasions, or getting 3-4 hours of sleep before waking up for work the next day). I try so hard and I really do enjoy spending time with her, but after doing weekly chores and getting ready for the next week, the weekend is over. I want to find activities that challenge me mentally, push my physical limits, or tap into my creative / artistic mindset. If I push the issue enough, it always becomes an argument--I then get my time to do things alone, but it's hard to do creative writing right after fighting with my wife. It's hard to play guitar when my wife, in mockery, is bitterly and blatantly ignoring me for my 1-2 hours. I suppose the conflict could push me to run an extra mile (jk). I have told her on many occasions that when we spend time together, I have always shown a good attitude about what she enjoys, but she always abhors what I enjoy when it doesn't pertain to her likes. For example, I have watched all seasons of Sex and the City with her (every episode, including the movie). I have asked her to purchase an adventure video game that we can both take turns playing, unfolding a story interactively--she declines, saying she doesn't enjoy video games. For me, I didn't watch TV, by choice, for an entire decade. When discussing time together and time apart, what standards are fair, generally speaking? What have you and your spouse done that worked well for you? What have you done that backfired or did not work well? Please help me .. I started playing guitar and singing some time ago. Music means so much to me! In just a normal day, when I'm all alone at home or outside, all I see is Music. I believe in music so much! It's life, and it's what keeps me living. I know it's not everyone who feel this way about music, but me, I do. Music is my everything .. Playing guitar and singing makes me express myself.. Whatever I'm feeling, happiness or sadness, love or hate.. Lately I've been having problems in playing guitar. I study.. A lot!! But sometimes it feels so hard! Some days I just play pretty well.. other times soo bad. My guitar teacher tells me I'm very good in playing guitar, but I am seeing no improvement. It feels so hard! I don't wanna give up .. I want to learn guitar very well. Practically if you play guitar all I'm asking is, when you were learning it, in the very beginning, have you ever found yourself losing faith and thinking you will never be able to play well? And how long did it take you to learn guitar pretty well?.. I just find myself thinking I'll never be good when I see others playing guitar. They are so relaxed when playing, and so fast! How is that possible?! Please Help... My love for music is more than anything one could love in the whole wide world.. I don't want to give up, but I want your opinionNo, my teacher isn't bad.. This is not the absolute beggining of te story, this is after they meet. How they meet is that she was dw at the pond by her house ( they own a vineyard, they are rich) and she brought her guitar, but she dropped her pick on accident and Will was walking by and saw it and gave it to her. Then she told him how she wasnt good at playing theguitar and wanted to learn, so she snuck out at night to have him teach her but she fell asleep while he was. So now they are at the carnival, and what will does is keep an object from each night they are together. In the first day they met, he saved a dandelion that he put inher hair, he second day he saved the stuffed animal he won her that she let him keep. Thats why he kept it, btw. Thats as far as I got, so read my story so far, and if there are any improvment i can make, please say so! Thanks! We entered the carnival, seeing people who were most likely tourists, for there were many this time of year in Northern California. I saw a family of five, two parents and their 3 kids holding balloons, and a bear, and a small red stuffed tiger which was probably won at one of the games. They all showed content expressions. There were a bunch of couples I could spot, all seeming a few years older then Will and I. A few girls my age walked by giggling and eyeing Will. He gave a blushed smile in the other direction. I gave them a look that told them Will was all mine, when in reality we were just friends. Will finally broke the silence in between him and I. “Amelia, what do ‘ya wanna do? There’s plenty o’ games. Rides? You wanna go on a ride?” “I don’t mind. Maybe we should play some games first, let the lines settle down. If we stay that long.” He didn’t quite process what I said, and it took him a second after he looked around the carnival area searching for a good game to fully do so. “Over here.” He grabbed my hand, leading me to a game booth. It was one of those booths were they lined up and organized ten cans in a triangular form, and you gave one dollar for two throws, which I thought was just like giving your money away. For me, at least, who could barely run in a straight line and be expected to be able to throw a ball and hit down ten cans from ten feet away. The booth was decorated with lights, inviting the sun to completely dissolve into the black star-filled summer sky. There were stuffed animals posing as prizes which were hung up on the frame of the booth, and at the back. A sign said that if you hit all cans down with only one ball, you win one of the smaller stuffed prizes. And if you get lucky and knock the cans down both trys, you win one of the bigger prizes. Will let go of my hand when he was giving the person running the booth one dollar, and the person running it gave him his first ball. “Watch me, Amelia. Ima knock ‘em down my first try.” I must admit I liked Will. He was confident, and easily pleased me. “Alright Will, but don’t be upset if you don’t knock them down your first-” He hit them all down, with his first try. Impressive, a boy with a good arm. I laughed because I was so incredibly impressed, and I had no way of explaining why. Guys usually figured having a reputation of dating nine million girls impressed a girl. I don’t know about all the other girls, but it sure did not impress me. I say that from experience. Guys were something I constantly worried about, why I couldn’t find Mr.Right, and why when I thought I did it all ended up with me disappointed. This is simply sub-stage one. Stage one would come when we, if we even did, started dating. Will passed my expectations on a first date with flying colors. Sub-stage one was the stage of friendship, before we dated. Stage one was when we get along so well, I feel like this is the one, and then he fails stage two, three, and four. I had a feeling maybe Will would ace my standards. But, then again, my standards don’t call for much. Will, I had a feeling, would pass up my standards, with more than 100 percent. But we’d just have to wait. My laughter was unusually filled with my amazement in him fulfilling what he said he would do. His eyes shun with the sentiment that he had accomplished what he said he would, in front of me. He laughed as well, and proved me wrong. But I liked being proven wrong when it came to him. “I told ya, Amelia! I got it! You wanna bet Ima knock down the cans my second try, too?” This time I thought I would just agree with him and not be proven wrong. But I loved the look he had, and the amazement I felt so much, I had to doubt him agI'm only 14, thats probably why I have a load of grammatical errors...And Ive never actully writtn a book before, but Ive one many writing awards so I figured it would be fun to... moreResolved Question: what kind of guitar shud i get????

This is a description of me, I tried to list as many features as I could think of without putting down the obvious stuff. My sleeping pattern is constantly changing, sometimes I'll go to bed at 6pm and wake up at 2am, sometimes i go to bed at 9am and wake up at 5pm, sometimes it's normal. Whenever i go to a restaurant i feel the urge to get all the knifes, forks and spoons and start balancing them on each other. The volume control on anything i use is always set to a multiple of 5. I'm not a particularly 'clean' person, just normal really, although my bedroom floor is below average. But even though everything i own is scattered everywhere, I know exactly where everything is. I train my dog to be able to do things it would probably be better if he didn't know, such as how to open the door (none the less this is still awesome for a dog). I like maths, although I don't remember the terminology well. Even though I do maths at university. I still do other random subjects such as learning C++ or Japanese or learning to draw in my spare time and I set myself very optimistic goals with these, then give up just when i'm starting to get good and come back to it a year later and dabble every now and then. I learnt to play piano when i was young, and gave up after about a year, but i still dabble in it now, i also did the same with guitar and drums but i played drums in a band for about 3 years and during this time i improved rapidly. When I create things, my first attempt is usually rubbish and takes quite a while even though i try to incorporate every technique i know at the time, then my second attempt is awesome, but i do everything extremely specifically and it takes me a very long time and i don't finish a lot of the time, then my third attempt and those after are usually done at an average pace with quality almost equal to that of the second but by this time i've given up and things don't get finished because I only dabble. I intend to be a maths teacher, because of my experience with this, my public speaking confidence has rapidly increased over the last year and a half. When i'm typing i constantly write down (changed from 'from') the wrong word, but i always stop when ('what') i finish a sentence to check everything is right and fix it. I avoid taking any kind of drugs (but not so much alcohol) except medication and recently i've started to avoid the sweetener aspartame. I'm 6"0' and weigh at most 9 st 11, yet i eat probably over 3000 kcals per day sometimes. I also excercise extremely little. I have friends, and even though I'm sure they like me (right now) I still get insecure about whether they do for the slightest things. Some will get me random presents both on and off occasion (usually a girl if off), even though i've never gotten them anything but I do really appreciate this. They consider me to be a quiet person and sometimes i think i'm better off being quiet. I'm always cheerful, and I never get angry at anything. I haven't had a girlfriend before (i'm 19), I've no idea what the reason for this is (I'm pretty confident in my looks). There's a girl I like right now, but she got a boyfriend (who not many people like really) just about the time i realised i like her and even though we still spend a lot of time alone together, she hasn't done anything about it for the last year and a bit. This is getting a bit frustrating and i'm starting to get bored.. I think. There have been girls who have liked me before, but examples include one who was over 2 years older and didn't even know how old i was and another before, one who i had no feelings for at all, and now, years after she's over me, i'm starting to like her slightly. I get very confused about what I like in a girl, but i would say 'cute' is the common factor, although that doesn't mean much. I don't like sand at all, it's coarse, it sticks to you, it gets in your cloths and you have to put up with it the whole time till you get home and have a shower. I construct elaborate plans if there's something i want, start them a little, then don't continue just out of laziness, especially if there's a high probability of failure. I'm extremely good at managing my money, I've no idea how I do it to be honest, but I manage to go to university without any loans (only the standard grant), go out for meals 1-5 times per week, have days out at theme parks and see at least half the films that get released in the cinema, buy expensive things like a new pc, graphics tablet and a parrot, I've only got a bit above minimum wage weekend job and I don't get money from my parents. My grandad died a few months ago, this i the first person i've known who has died yet i was completely unaffected in anyway, i liked him and knew him quite well, but i just show no reaction to things like this. I also did the same thing when my parents got a divorce the day after my birthday, no reaction. I don't like deleting things from my pc in case I want them again, althou..(continued) I don't like deleting things from my pc in case I want them again, although I rarely do, so I make sure I have plently of space, currently 3TB, 50% is used so far. I sometimes make things physics or science related and have a play with them in the garden (I caused an explosion not too long ago by accident which was extremely loud, but no complaints so it's ok). Whenever I leave the house I go through a list of things i have in my head and consider whether I need them. "Keys, phone, money, iPod, tape measure (take it anyway), school bag, additional/specific clothing, etc." I keep the boxes for everything I own, they take up probably half the space in my room, but I'm not getting rid of them. This doesn't include disposable things. I like riddles and puzzles, but not ones that can have mulptile answers. When I found out I was starting to get a little short sighted, I started staring into long distances whenever possible and now my eyesight is fine again.sorry about the format moreResolved Question: How Long Does It Take To Learn The Guitar?

Okay, first of all let me say that I don't want anyone giving some crap about being a whiny teenager, yes I'm sixteen, yes this is about my parents, and I live with both of them, but this is more about my mom than anything. I turned sixteen over a month ago and it had been promised that I would get my dad's Ford Fusion. It's a 2006, and I love it. It was also promised that I would take my license test the day I turned sixteen. Now, my mom never lets me drive..anywhere! She goes out in her mercedes with my older brother, just to make me as mad as possible. So I rely on my dad, but he works..a lot. Thursday, of this week, he told her to take me to take the test. She went out and got her hair done. Today, my brother and I finally got home from school and I went to get my birth certificate and everything, and he said he wanted to go to Cape Girardeau. He doesn't work, she gives him all of his money. So, they left, leaving me to babysit, again, and when I told her that she was a liar, she started yelling that I was an ungrateful whore. This is my birth mother, not stepmother. She's always doting on my brother, and trying to irritate me. This isn't new. As long as I can remember, I've been jilted so that she could reward him. And this is the woman that tells me that I need to see a doctor about trust issues, or that I'm antisocial. Every time I do try to trust her, she blabs and makes fun of me for whatever I've told her. I don't even know why I try anymore. That's the main issue. If I try to tell her she said something different five minutes ago, I'm told that I'm disrespectful. If I tell her she's playing favorites, she goes on about how she would never do that and how she treats us both equally. Then I ask for some money for a book, and she gives my brother money to go get Subway or something. I told her I want to be a veterinarian and she said I could never do the classes, that I'm an idiot. I try to make her proud and she only gets mad and says something like I'm trying to make my brother look bad, or being a smart aleck. I don't even think she realizes how much it can hurt to feel like your' own mother doesn't want anything to do with you. I know my dad loves me, but he's hardly ever here. All she ever wants to talk about is how my brother learned this or that on guitar. I'm not sure if she knows that I own a drumset, let alone that I can play it. She told me that I need to be more feminine, or that I should just get married and have kids because I could never be successful, then started laughing because she knows that I'm infertile. It's not a happy issue, and she brings it up whenever she can. It's really hurtful, and I'm not mad, I just feel forgotten.I've tried walking out of the room, but she just yells about me avoiding problems and that I'm then groundedMy brother encourages her. He's been mean to me since we were little. moreResolved Question: how hard is it to learn to play the guitar?

How did you learn? any advice welcome please!?
I have no previous musical knowledge (apart from a few guitar lessons whilst i was a school) but i have decided i would like to learn to play the harp. I am very serious about this decision and have wanted to for some time but dont really know how to go about it! I am aware how expensive they are so wouldnt be able to buy one for a long time, do i just find a teacher and use theirs? is it better to hire one? is it difficult to learn? do you need any other equipment other than the obvious, the instrument!? How much can lessons cost? How long realistically can it take to become able to play full length peices? I know where to look for a teacher but wanted to hear others expeirences first. I live near Stansted Airport (UK) Any advice or Personal experiences would be really helpful! thanks :)Whats the difference between the type with pedals and the type without? If i do buy, what important points do i need to look out for? moreResolved Question: HELP HELP HELP! Does he like me? (10 easy points.)?
So... It's a long and confusing story I'm going to get started. Please read to the end if you are going to answer my question seriously. His name is Jake. He's sweet, cute, hot and sexy all at the same time. He's also a skater, way taller than me by about six inches, putting him and six foot one, and has cute skater hair that does the little flippy thing without him messing with it in the morning. I am about six months older than him, but in a grade above him. We have been friends for about two years, and recently became really good friends about a month after school started in the fall. Being my neighbor, we hung out all the time. He was teaching me to skateboard, and I was teaching him how to draw. We were learning guitar together every day after school and hanging out almost every weekend. I was really starting to like him more than a friend. Then basket ball started. It took up every evening from after school until about six p.m., and by then, it was getting dark and I wasn't allowed to walk to his house. His games would take up Saturday and Sunday, and he rarely had time for a phone call. Our only was of commuincation was through texting between his basketball practices, and my mulitple music lessons. I kind of assumed that he liked me, and I flirted with him a lot. Halloween, he asked me out. I said no. Try to understand where I was coming from: My dad had just been torn away from my family because he had been abusing me, and we had very little money to support four kids while maintaining a decent house in the country. My best friend was moving out of state, and I was really stressed out trying to make voice lessons, piano lessons, guitar lessons, dance lessons, art classes, and show choir rehersals and compitions. We never saw each other and a relationship would only add more stress. I didn't want to say yes to a guy I wouldn't have time for. I told him that maybe with the new year, when most of my lessons would be over and basketball season ended, we could get together. He said that was cool, and acted like he understood. We were still friends, meeting up when we could, but not pursuing a relationship, even though we could both tell that we really liked each other. I could tell he felt bad about getting turned down, and I new a lot of other girls like him. I told him maybe he should go out with someone else, though I secretly kept it to myself that it would hurt me. He insisted he didn't want to date anyone else, so I didnt' say anything about it again. Finally, January came and all my lessons ened except show choir. So I called him, and left him a message of how if he wanted to come over anytime just to message me and I'd be free. He never called me back. I texted him the next day, just a simple hey, not worrying. He still didn't answer. I texted him the day after that and he still didn't answer. I texted him one more day, and he still didn't answer. I wondered about it. He had never ignored me like this before, or if he had, he had always given me a good reason in advance - like basketball. But I didn't worry. I'm not a clingy person, and I new Jake would text me back in his own time. Maybe he just got his phone taken away. A week later, when I still hadn't recieved any communtications from him, he called me. He told me that he had a girlfriend, and her name was Abby. It hurt me when he told me this, especially after telling me he was going to wait at least until Febuary for me. However, I pretended otherwise, like I was glad he was with someone, and congrautaled him on the new relationship. I couldn't tell if he seriously liked her or not, and some of my friends think he may be doing this to make me jealous. He hasn't talked to me since telling me he had a girlfriend, but I will start seeing him regularly again with up coming Monday. One of my friends even went as far to say that maybe he is dating this girl to try to get over me but with seeing me regularly again, he will start to like me. I know that it is partly my fault, seeing as I like him, but turned him down and told him he should get a girlfriend. But he also knows the reasons why I turned him down and why I wanted to wait, and he told me he would wait. So do you think he still likes me? Everyone says the girl he is dating is kind of a slut, even though I dont know her personally. And honestly, I don't know what to feel. I haven't cried over him, but I do feel... depressed maybe? I don't really don't know what I feel. I think it might me shock. I know its hard to tell, seeing as you don't know either me or him, but I would just like an outside opinion. So once again the question is: Does this boy like me and is he trying to make me jealous, or has he geinuinely moved on? moreResolved Question: Is learning to play the guitar hard? what kind of guitar is recommended to buy for beginners? and how much $?
