Open Question: Help me with this girl I am falling for!?

Hi So there's this girl in my music group. She's 15 and I'm almost 15. She's black (maybe mixed race) and I'm Indian. She sings really, really, really well and I think I'm a very good pianist. There's another mutual friend who plays guitar and the three of us have formed a sort-of band. I think she really is impressed when I play piano for her. She's usually not the shy type but she acts shy when she's around me. If the guitarist-friend isn't at school, then she doesn't talk to me much. She's very comfortable with me when he is here though and will talk/ask me questions that she doesn't to others - like she's quite interested in me. On MSN, I always seem to be the one to start the conversation but sometimes if she's online, then I stay quiet hoping for her to start for once. (Doesn't usually happen). I'm a pretty shy guy, and some may think of me as being a nerd. I'm just really good at any subject and pay attention in class and finish the homework. She's really a popular girl in our year. Recently, this girl is the only thing I can think about. Just before i go to bed, as soon as I wake up etc. And I've never felt this way about any other girl. She's admitted I'm one of her best male friends though we've only been friends for about 2 months. Before then, the three of us in the band were sort of going our own way. I usually play really advanced solo classical piano pieces but ever since this band, I've been focusing on learning songs that she likes that we can play in the band - just to be around her more. As I said, I'm a shy guy. I've never had a girlfriend or anything - and other boys call me "gay" because of this. Maybe I haven't found the right girl just yet...? I doubt my parents would let me be in a relationship at this age, they say to focus on my studies =P Especially with a non-Indian girl. I don't really have a specific question, but if you guys were kind enough to read through this whole thing (I know its long), then if you could give me your thoughts on my situation.  more

Open Question: How do I handle these issues (please read)...?

I'm 17 and I just graduated high school. The problem is, I'm tired of being blown off. For example, I failed the first semester of algebra 2 (honestly the teacher lost my work and my couselor knew it, but told me to make copies of my work for proof). When I knew my grades were slipping I told my mom, and she just said okay work harder. I gave 110% and stilled failed, but she got mad and said I didn't apply myself so I had to take night school. Things like that always happen because I just get blown off. Now, the problem is bigger. Where I live, I could've had my driver's permit at 15 and 9 months and if they would've taken me then I could have my license by now. Because the fact I can't drive, I have to postpone college this fall until I can drive because I have no way to get there (despite the fact it's the closest college to home, and its' a community college- the city bus or train doesn't go there). Now my mom took me a couple of months ago to get my permit, but I failed. The thing is, I still wudda had my permit because you have to hold it for 8months and can't drive by yourself with it. Who knows, if they would've just taken me on time to get it, then I could of had my full license by now (trial and error, it's been 2 years since I was eligable, and now I know that book forwards and backwards). I'm also having trouble finding a job. I've applied at 5 places. 4 haven't gotten back with me and the other one (Vector) was a scam. With no job (no money saved) and not being able to drive, I feel trapped. I'm out of high school and still fully depent on my mom. I still have to ask to go out with my friends, and there are times she says no because either I have to babysit or she doens't feel like taking me or giving me the money. It's not like I go out a lot, but when I ask it's like I'm annoying her and it's sickening. Also, she doesn't hardly ever believe in me. Yesterday we went to Best Buy, and they added a music instrument section in the store. My mom knows I can play piano, but she told me drums and gutiar are a waste. Now when I played the drums and guitar, she was shocked and couldn't believe it (I learned guitar/drums at school from friends). Also, she says things to me like "If you lose weight, you'll be pretty, have a figure and get guys" and when we go shopping, she looks at me like I'm the most disgusting thing when I try on clothes, and it hurts (we also don't get along). She gave me such a hard time about prom dresses and losing weight, I didn't even go to senior prom (nor junior prom or any homecomings) because I was insecure. I'm tired of feeling trapped like this. Any advice? Thanks so much  more

Resolved Question: How would i harmonize 2 guitars?

Well i just read this book called Music theory for dummies lol and i learned all about intervals and triads and all that fun stuff. I looked around on the internet but i found conflicting information on how to harmonize 2 guitars like in Master of Puppets. I know the guitars can each play the same thing or play something an octave apart, but i dont understand how to harmonize using thirds or fifths. Do i use a major or minor third or a perfect fifth, or am i totally wrong.  more

Voting Question: Heeeey R&P, is 17 too old to start learning how to play an instrument/ learn how to sing?

Well first things first, I've realised how much I want to make music. This is really embarassing, but every day I imagine that I'm in a band; I have all these lyrics written in my head and ideas for melodies and songs. I would love to be on stage so bad, I feel that it's something I must do...but the only problem is I CAN'T PLAY AN INSTRUMENT or SING. I know 17 is a bit late, but I'm willing to practice every day at singing, and keyboard and guitar. I really, really want to create music. Am I too late? Most musicians I've read about started at a young age, and I fear that I've left it too long. This is sort of a secret ambition of mine, I've wanted to do this for years but I find it pretty embarassing to tell anyone for some reason. In 5 years, will I be competent enough as a musician to start a band with people, and to perhaps start playing gigs? THANKS DUDES ;D  more

Open Question: How, in what order, and where can I learn music theory?

So I've recently managed to piece together a band with a bunch of people at my school. I'm currently the only one who seems to be capable of making music, but I'm mostly guessing. The rest of the band kind of expects me to write all our songs, which I'm cool with, I'd love to do that, but I just need to know a little more about HOW to do it. I've tried reading about a lot, but I can never seem to find a good order on things and what to learn. Could someone please recommend to me what I should learn? I'd also appreciate if you could point me at some places where I can learn music theory (otherwise I'll just keep trying ultimate-guitar.com). Thanks!:) Genre: Death Metal My instrument: Electric guitar Any further answers would be appreciated.  more

Resolved Question: Has anybody else who has learned any Metallica on the guitar that nearly all their songs include the same...?

Has anybody else who has learned any Metallica on the guitar that nearly all their songs include the same notes, or very similar notes. I don't know anything about music. I recently bought a guitar just to learn the songs I like. I have looked at a few metallica tabs and was pretty surprised at how similar some of them are even though they sound completely different (If that makes sense?). Is it just that i'm reading shit tabs? Is it the same with all bands. Also, on some of the tabs I've seen, alot of the song is played on just one string. Like a lot of master of puppets is played on the E string. Is that how Metallica plays it or has it just been simplified to make it easier? And. Are Hetfield and Hammet both playing the intro or is it just one of them? Thank you if you took the time read that and answer. Diddler.......What? Ak...........What?  more

Voting Question: Is it hard to learn to play piano?

I am 24 years old and have always been interested in playing the piano and the acoustic guitar. Since I was 4 years old, I was in dancing and my parents could never afford the extra money for piano or guitar lessons. I danced for 18 years, but after a couple of injuries to my ankles, knees, and shins, (mainly due to a car accident in 2004) I decided to call it quits for dancing. I miss it so much, but know that I will never dance like I used to. This is the first year that I am not dancing, and I am becoming very bored! I figured this would be a good time to pursue the piano. I got extremely interested after watching "Twilight" and hearing the compositions in the movie. I can somewhat read music from the choir classes I took in Junior High, but that was some time ago! Is it very hard to learn to play?  more

Resolved Question: Is it possible that Dyslexia can run in families...?

Because, my older brother sister have it, my cousin has it and my younger brother has Dyspraxia which is kind of part of his Neuro condition, known as Neurofibromostosis. Anyway, I have no idea wether I have this or not, or possibly something similar. I have always had problems in English and Maths, other subjects I was good at, like Science, Humanities, Design, Art, Music, etc, but whenever it came to writing or working out sums, that's when I was held back. I was always good at Spelling at school, but sometimes, I always end up spelling the words wrong, like mixing the letters up. I used to write the letters the wrong way round too. - Sometimes I misspell things even when copying something from the board or from a book. - I can't punctuate very well -I often make mistakes when writing things. -I can't read maps very well -I have an unusual pencil grip, often with the thumb on top of the fingers (a "fist grip") -I am really shite at maths, I just can't do it at all. I know basic maths, like multiplying, adding, subtracting and deviding, but with everything else I usually just forget. -I find it really hard to work out formulas in my head, I end up having to use my fingers. - I have always had trouble with speech, like I stutter and jumble my words up, especially when I'm nervous. -I can't sing the alphabet backwards -I have a fear of speaking incorrectly, I have become withdrawn and shy. I have heard that dyslexic people are quite creative in a way, as I have always been good at art from the age of 4. I've just finished my A2 levels in Textiles, Graphics and Fine Art and was predicted A's in all subjects. And I can play all kinds of instruments, like drums, guitar, piano, organ and that and I can play any kind of song without having to learn. My parents have always though I had learning difficaulties, but they wearnt sure and I have always been ashamed of my self because of my disadvantage. Thanks for your help. Oh and sorry if it's too long and there's a bit of grammer and spelling errors, I was going to edit it, but yahoo was being an idiot. Oh yeah forgot. I find it hard to get to sleep most nights and I heard that people with neuro conditions find it harder to sleep.  more

Resolved Question: Easier to learn PIANO or GUITAR?

Voting Question: How do I know if I am good at guitar?

I am 14 years old and have been playing for about 4 and a half years. I can read sheet music very well and I know how to play almost any chord in multiple positions. I can freestyle solo to blues, or jazz, very well. I know my minor pentatonic scales, major pentatonic scales, and other scales. I know how to play about 15 songs- pinball wizard, sunday bloody sunday, while my guitar gently weeps, where the streets have no name, won't get fooled again, mysterious ways, the weight, had to cry today, can't find my way home, layla, behind blue eyes, and a few more...I know thats not many songs, but when I take the time to sit down and try to learn a song, I can learn a whole song in under an hour. From reading that, do you think im good considering how long I have been playing and how old I am. Also, I broke my arm twice during those 4.5 years and I have to take 3 month breaks both times. If you think I should be better, then what should I learn, and how should I get better? Also i have 2 fender strats-one mex and one american  more

Resolved Question: How hard is it to learn guitar? (Newbie here), good beginning guitar?

Ok, so I have very minimal experience with music. I used to play trumpet, but I quit because I was too far behind because I could not read music. So I started playing and I was pretty decent, but not great. So I'm not the greatest at music. But I'd like to pick up the guitar, seems like it would be a useful and fun. How long do you think it will take me to learn? Keep in mind I can't read music and I'm a bit of a slow learner. But I'd be motivated to play songs that I like on the guitar, I think that would be cool. How long until I can play some good songs and maybe memorize them? Where can I find a good guitar for a beginner? I'd like to spend <$100, and keep in mind I'll have no idea how to tune the thing. Any other tips? My goal is to have a pretty good grip on playing in about 2 years. Oh, and sometime I'd like to pick up playing the ukulele. Is this easier or harder than the guitar? Should I learn the guitar before the ukulele? Thanks  more

Voting Question: Help me with bass tabs, (or any for that matter)?

from being a child i've known how to read sheet music, but obviously you can't learn guitar with sheet music. but every time i try to read a tab the numbers and symbols get jumbled up and i end up f-ing it up. I know how to read them but is there any other way like tab to learn that wont get jumbled up? it always happens with numbers and symbols You can't really cos there's so many different places on the guitar where you can play the exact same note (not dif pitches like middle c can be played in at least 3 places). The things i do know how to play i've learned on keyboard, piano or cello first. but that makes it take so much longer, trying to transfer things to guitar, the other things i've learned by ear, which again, takes ages. Right so when i'm reading tab, after about 5 mins the numbers and symbols on the tab start moving around, (dyslexia?) because of this i can't focus and see where i am with the tab and obviously can't carry on with it. It happened in maths as well, my teachers' always had to write sums out in letter form otherwise i wouldn't be able to do the work.  more

Resolved Question: I got $400 for a graduation present, i want to know how you would spend it on guitar equipment.?

Ok i've come up with 3 things im interested in. 1) Epiphone G-400 guitar: The Gibson SG is my all time favorite guitar, and from what i've read about the G-400, its the next best thing to an actual Gibson. I'm in desperate need of a new guitar. I got a BC Rich RAVE for christmas 4 years ago and have learned everything i know about music on that guitar. Reality is, the guitar sucks and I need something better than that. 2) Line 6 Spider III 75w: The reviews i've read give this amp anywhere from "Amazing" to "Dismal" so i'm assuming, like all pieces of musical equipment, its just an opinion thing. I've played on this amp and love the features it comes with, but probably will end up using it with some pedals instead of it's built in effects. I want something thats gig-worthy, not something thats gonna sit in my basement. I'm playing on a little 15w Big Mouth amp thats been great for me, outplaying and fender amp ive played on, and is more than enough for practicing purposes 3) BOSS pedals: BOSS pedals, in my experience are the best. $400 towards these can get me a pretty standard rig (Distortion, Delay, Chorus, Wah). The thing about the pedals is that i know that they're good enough that i'll stick with them for a long time and they'll be solid for me. Honestly i'm leaning towards the amp. Line 6 makes excellent products from what i've seen and at less than $300, its the best value of Money for Wattage ive found. I know that all musicians are different and their opinions vary all over the spectrum. But there's gotta be some products out there that are collectively agreed to be great. Let me know what you think, what should i go with? Or if you have a different suggestion... i just wanna make sure i'm going to get the best bang for my buck. Thanks  more

Resolved Question: Going to a jazz conservatory?

I was seriously considering attending a conservatory for jazz, until I realized that none of the guys I like attended school. Monk, Byrd, Dizzy; none of them went. Miles did for a bit, so did Trane, but it seems as if you have to find your calling in the streets. Am I wrong there? The academisation of jazz has given us crap, in my humble opinion: Scofield, Lovano, Marsalis; they all bore me. I think that the Berklee method of improvisation is just wanking with scales incessantly, from what I've heard. I have no interest in that. I'm currently a sophomore in high school, but I'm in an advanced program that lets me graduate with an AA degree from an accredited college. Am I on the right path? I want to make the music I hear in my head, but I'm not sure university will help me at all. For what it's worth, I command a fairly advanced knowledge of theory, but I can hardly read music, although I know all my keys. I prefer to learn by ear. I'm a competent guitar player, but I dabble in violin, trumpet, and piano. Thanks for any help guys. Thanks for responding 'D', although I'm not sure you'll see this. As for Parker's rumour of practicing Cherokee (I believe that's what I read) in all 12 keys, and other things, there's not much to corroborate it, although his technique and phrasing is obviously dazzling. Saying I can't read music is a half-truth...I can, but I just don't devote the time to sight-read effectively, being that my ear works much faster, as I learned to recognize intervals the same way they did; went out, bought myself a Technics SL-1700, bought some records, and sat there, replaying and replaying them, stealing Django's licks, recognizing the devices they used. I still believe this is more effective than anything else, but time will tell. I say that about scales and modes because I learned them a few years ago, and I'm not sure what else there is to learn, other than their usage over certain passages (Say, F Lydian over Amin7 or something). I hate to sound like a haughty prick, I'm really not.  more

Voting Question: Lots of questions about a used fender stratocaster and a new guitar learner(experienced guitar players help)?

I have someone wanting to trade me a 1999 blue and white with a rosewood fret mexican made fender stratocaster with a little scratch under the bridge for my 1 year old acer laptop. Good or bad deal. Is the mexican made ones just as good or what's the difference. What should I be looking for when I inspect the guitar before I trade? Is this a good beginner guitar I made a mistake of buying a really cheap guitar before and never played it because it sounds horrible maybe it's the amp. What is a good cheap amp I should go with that sounds great? I really do want to learn guitar but have never gone though with it because I get frustrated does any one have any tips. I like the fender stratocaster because I've heard people play blues on it and I think it sounds great any tips on learning blues on a fender stratocaster? Really if any one can help me learn please do it's something I"ve wanted to do for a long time. Are there any good learning websites or anything I should pick up at the local music store? What's the best kind of pick to use? Everyone who reads this please write a comment short or long the more responses the better.  more

Voting Question: Keyboard or E. Bass Guitar?

I'm so confused on what to get. Both cost $1000, give or take <$100. Yamaha P-140: I love the sound a keyboard/piano gives. I'm not an adept at piano at all, but I've been playing every now and then since 1st grade, and I also know enough of the basics for self-teaching. I've had a teacher for about half a year. According to my old music teacher and parents, I would've excelled piano if I kept practicing. Unfortunately, I was too stubborn and impatient during a lesson on time signatures that I almost stopped playing entirely (I was about 9-10 years old). Playing the piano became really sporadic, and I became focused at school and other things. -I love the sound of composers like Chopin, Joplin, etc., but I myself cannot play much, and due to education reasons (long studying hours), I don't think I have the time to learn. -I'm a little slow at reading notes since I stopped my playing, but I'm a fast learner, so all I can do is just keep practicing. But self-teaching myself a bit after homework is not much of practice... -A relative plays the piano, and I know that she would love it if I had a piano in the house. My dad also wants me to get a piano, saying that it is a "gift". Honestly, I don't have the inspiration to play the piano, and now, it doesn't feel like a "gift" at all. w/e bass I feel like getting: As mentioned earlier, ever since a family member got two guitars (acoustic and electric) and another managed to get drums, I was thinking of getting a bass. I've been interested in the bass even before that, and I love the sound of it. I've had experiences with string instruments, mainly acoustic guitar, but I'm no master at it, like how I am with a piano. Again I just know enough of the basics for self-teaching. I can also just pick this up and play a simple tune. It'll also be nice to have a new instrument to use. Honestly, I want a bass... but I'm being pressured to pick the keyboard... they both are wonderful instruments in my book... ______________________________________________ I have a pretty bad "indecisive" personality, so help me out here. ;A; I'm also being really pressured to make a choice. Most of it is from me, but my dad is also. But really... I think both are WONDERFUL instruments...  more

Resolved Question: is teaching yourself guitar hard?

I learned to play the sax three years ago in middle school, and got pretty good at it. it was ok, but i've always wanted to play guitar. i have an old one that stays in tune for about an hour, then gets weird. i know how to read sheet music, but i understand that guitar sheet music is slightly different. i personaly do not want to take lessons on playing guitar, and even though my family would pay for them, i would rather they not. Soooo, i am dedicates, know what it takes to learn how to play an instrument, and have the basics to teach myself. is it hard? o know the internet has lots of resources, but would like to hear from people who were in the same situation... thanks!  more

Resolved Question: Has anybody bought the metallica guitar books?

I'm considering buying a book called Death Magnetic easy guitar. I think theyve done the same for all their previous albums. Is it written as propper music? you know, the crazy beethoven kind of shit. Or is it tabs? I cant read music and really cant be assed learning. So yeah, do you have to be able to read music to use these books.  more

Voting Question: Keyboard, Sax, or Guitar (bass or acoustic) which do I choose?

From middle school to freshman year I played trumpet then moved onto Baritone once in high school. I loved playing music and a huge fan of jazz. Well to the point, I am wanting to pick up an instrument and teach myself to play, but I cant choose which. Now I want an instrument I can play to relax with, I guess to get that smooth jazz feeling. Im 30yrs old I have time to learn to play if I need too, so I can read music, and I can picture myself play each of these, so Im asking for adivce and help. Thanks.  more

Resolved Question: Am I too old to start learning how to play guitar?

I took guitar lessons when I was about 9, but I think I was too young then. It was too hard for me then and I never really practiced. However I'm 15 now and I'm really interested in learning. I really don't remember anything I learned previously so I will basically be starting fresh. I love music, and I always have. I've had dreams of being able to write my own songs for a long time, I've just never really pursued them. I sometimes write lyrics, but when it comes to the actual music, I have no clue how to do it. I would love to learn how to read & write music, and I'm pretty sure that will come with learning guitar, considering I would need to learn how to read it. But, I feel like I'm too old. Most famous singers and songwriters have been playing since early childhood and I feel like if I start now, it's going to be a really long time before I can really play and it won't even be worth it. So I'd like to hear thoughts and opinions from anybody, but especially people who play guitar. I'd love to know how old you were when you started and how quickly you progressed. Stories from people with experience are great. Thanks guys!  more

Voting Question: Finding the right instrument for me; questions on price, quality, sound, and more.?

I have the ability to read music, knowledge of piano and guitar basics, and time to spare. I think these things will allow me the resolve to master an instrument. The question is, which one. My guitar is old, and broken. The piano in my house is a very good piano, but it's also very out of tune. I could get a new guitar, or pay for a piano tuning, but I think that, since I'll be spending money either way, this will be an excellent opportunity to try a new instrument. I'd like you to help me choose which one to try. I do not plan to professionally play music. I only want to learn to play so I can create, and do all of that artsy, musical stuff. Personal use. I want an instrument that is portable, preferably. The more portable, the better, as I understand the difference between carrying a guitar around, and a pan flute. I want to stay away from the guitar; it's an awesome instrument, but I'd like to try something else. Price is a big concern for me. While I'm not so keen on buying used (you never know what's happened to it), I don't want to be spending thousands of dollars on an instrument. I plan to get a medium quality instrument. Nothing cheap, nothing ridiculously expensive, so when recommending an instrument, please quote middle-of-the-road prices. Or, you could offer your experienced opinion on what kind of quality an instrument should have. The instrument shouldn't be impossible to learn, but it doesn't have to be extremely simple, either. I enjoy smooth-sounding instruments, and eerie-sounding instruments. Two examples are the saxophone and the violin, respectively. They are also both excellent sizes, but I'm not sure what they're like as far as price, learning curve, quality, or anything else I've asked about. So really, just give me your recommendations, taking into account the above. I would certainly prefer if you had experience with the instruments you're discussing. If you need any more information from me, I'll edit it into the question, so ask, and please check back to see if the information was added.  more

Resolved Question: I want to learn the piano or maybe the guitar?

I want to learn how to play the piano by ear and to also read music. But I dont know where to start on my keyboard, I cant afford lessons and I'm so afraid I'm going to fail. I'm afraid I'll never be able to learn how to play the piano. All the notes...keys...sharps, flats, it all seems so very hard. Please, help me. Also would it be easier to learn the guitar? Was anyone self taught? How did you start?  more

Resolved Question: NEED OPINIONS (BTW THIS IS GONNA BE A LONG THING… BUT PLEASE READ IT WORD TO WORD)?

I just recently found that I have a passion for music and singing. I mean I’ve always been interested in music and singing, but you know I just… I can’t really explain. BUT music and singing has always been what I wanted to do but I never really thought about it until a few months ago. Music and singing has always made me feel better whenever I feel down or whatever. BUT ANYWAYS… I’m currently 19. And of course I'm Asian. I’m thinking about auditioning for either NH Media, YG Entertainment, DSP Entertainment, or whatever else they have. But NH Media, YG Entertainment, and DSP Entertainment are my top 3 choices. BUT I don't know any Korean but I know a little about the Korean culture from researching. I’m kind of quiet and shy but I can be loud and talkive. I think I sing well. I can't all those high notes, but I’m a good singer. I think I have a better strong/loud singing voice. Though I’m not that comfortable in my dancing skills but I’m thinking of probably taking a few dancing lessons (but it all depends with my schedule due to school) current a college student)) but overall I can dance well. ALSO I’m a quick learner. I have some stage experiences. I was in show choir, choir, etc. I played the violin for 4-5 years (but haven't played for over 5 years now (because my high school didn’t have an orchestra)). I’m planning to learn how to play the guitar and maybe the piano. And maybe take some voice/singing classes. BUT there are a few problems (I guess you can say) I was wondering should I wait till I finish college till I audition (that'll be when I’m like 22 or 23) or should I just do it now? I mean by the time I graduate I’d speak Korean because I’m planning on majoring in languages (Korean, Japanese, and Chinese) and that's a PLUS-PLUS right? BUT it's gonna take anther 2 to 3 years for me to finish. So I’m gonna be a little older when I audition (like 22 or 23). BUT After School's leader (I think she's the leader) Park Gahee didn't debut till she was 26 (I think (not too sure)). (Not saying when she was a trainee but the age when she actually debut with After School). I don't really know that I’m trying to say but you get what I’m trying to say right? So you think the ages 22-24 is too old to audition? Do you think there's a chance I may actually make it? ALSO I know FOR A FACT that my parents will disagree/disapprove with this. Because they already disapprove of my major (majoring in languages) and why would they approve on this too? And I know that if my passion is really music and singing then I should just go on and follow what I wanna do. But it’s complicated. I just don’t want my parents to be disappointed in me more than they are know because I think they already are. BUT I know that if I don’t at least try to do what I want then I’ll disappoint myself more. I know that even though I haven’t trained or whatever since I was young or whatever. BUT it’s better to have found what my one passion was before it was too late right? And I know it’ll be hard work for sure (especially if you’re audition and was chosen as a trainee) BUT I’m willing to work hard at it. So I need your opinions on what I should do. BUT please don’t be rude, inconsiderate, and judgmental. Because I feel I can do this. And I know that even those who were the best singers and dancers didn’t even make it in the auditions. And I know that Korea’s music industry is challenging and very competitive BUT I’m willing to try and see if I make it. I HAVE MORE TO ADD AND SAY BUT THESE WILL DO FOR NOW BUT I’LL ASK MORE IF I HAVE MORE TO ASK  more

Resolved Question: I need some advice, want to give up dancing, confused, please read..?

Well... I'm turning 13 tomorrow, and I need some advice about what to do here. I currently do jazz and tap classes at my dance school and I have been dancing since I was about 5. I'm not a good dancer nor am I flexible or hugely sporty (I am a much more musically oriented person - I sing, play clarinet, have played violin, and going to learn guitar soon) and I do not enjoy going to my jazz and tap class not only because it has gotten so hard that I can't do any of the exercises or steps, but that I also can't do any of the own choreography things (not even simple poses) and I would much rather spend my time doing music. I want to quit the class. We just had the mid-year concert and now we've gone back to classes and I'm doing even worse. I've decided that I don't want to do it anymore, BUT Mum doesn't want me to quit. She wants me to do it until the end of the year but I'm already taking on more and more stuff at school (sport, music, extra curricular activities) and she is angry because a little while ago she bought be some new jazz shoes - even though I told her to get second hand ones - so she says it was a waste of money and she is angry with me for wanting to quit. I'm already over loading my self and finding it hard to keep up but I'm still NOT ALLOWED to give anything up!! It's not like the world will end if I quit, and if it's only because she wont get to see me in concerts even though I've already done millions of concerts, then why should I have to do all the classes in stuff? It's not HER that has to drag herself along to the classes every week... All my friends have been allowed to give things up when they don't want to do it, even if it was just out of laziness. Pleeeaase leave an answer if you think I should be able to quit, or if you reckon Mum is right for making me feel bad and guitly for wanting to quit and you think I should still keep going... I don't know I'm just really confused right now and it would be nice for some one else other than me and my mum to have an opinion on this. Thaanks for reading and please answer :)  more
