I've been playing guitar for three years and I can never find a really good song to learn on the electrical guitar that I would stick to and learn all the way through. I want to learn a HARD song the has a guitar solo or like a really cool guitar part. Some bands I like are Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, Paramore, Led Zeppelin, Guns & Roses etc. I don't really care if you give me a song that's not by any of these bands. I really don't mind if it takes me a long time to learn the song either. If you know where I could find a (CORRECT) tab of your song suggestion please let me know. Thanks to all... =) moreOpen Question: good songs to play on acoustic guitar?

I've known a couple chords on the guitar for a long time, but have never really had time to learn properly (I also play piano and cello). Well, recently, I picked up my dad's guitar and decided to learn "Drifting" by Andy McKee. (I used some tabs I found online and a tutorial video on YouTube.) It took me three days, and now I'm hooked (haha). So, my question is, where do I go from here? I'm thinking some other fairly easy Andy McKee stuff (actually I like almost all the CandyRat artists), but I don't know where to start. Any ideas? Also, any other tips for getting started would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! moreResolved Question: Guitar player in need!?
I would like to learn a new acoustic song that I can just play anytime. There are many acoustic songs that I like, but I want this to be something that I can kind of show off with. I don't want a Spanish song... I went through a phase where all I played was Spanish music and I now don't like it... except for one song by Muriel Anderson. Anyway, I would like it to be a fast, advanced song. If it helps, I usually play rock or punk songs on my acoustic, although, I love it when a metal band has an acoustic song. Any suggestions? moreOpen Question: Easy country songs to learn on guitar?

Then people keep telling me u should learn to play by ear..how does a complete amateur just get a guitar and start playing by ear? it almost sounds like an ahole suggestion lol another problem i have is lets say if a note is the 2nd fret on the G string...and the next is the 7th of the g string. I hear people say you can stop the vibration but its not really an amateur movethanks KD helped me a great deal :) moreResolved Question: help on guitar chords please help?

Mainly looking for drop B and Drop c songs... I'm leaving the world of standard tuning! :D moreOpen Question: Acoustic guitar or Classical guitar?
I'm a lead/rhythm guitarist in a metal band, and I want to take things slow and easy back downward to soft songs. I've borrowed my friend's unused Classical guitar, learned Romance De Amor, or something, i forgot the name, but the only songs I could play are metal songs on the classical guitar, although I did study the finger plucking with it, and I seem to be good at it. Now, If i were to buy a wooden guitar, should I get a steel string or a nylon string? Is the steel string also good for finger/spanish music? Is the classical guitar also good for acoustic metal songs? Although, I heard that you could play good solo-type songs on the acoustic guitar... true? I just checked out Larrivee guitar demos on youtube, and they seem cool, especially the Guitars Of Pikesville guy. Well, I don't know, i can't decide for myself.Sorry, I meant Steel-String for Acoustic and Nylon String for Classical. moreOpen Question: What're some good songs to learn for a beginner on acoustic guitar?
Preferably rock? moreOpen Question: What Songs Would You Recommend To Learn On Guitar To Slowly Progress?
Hey People, I'm looking to improve my guitar skills. I love to play alot of rock and heavier stuff like Avenged Sevenfold. When it comes to Avenged Sevenfold I can often play most of the song but there's always that like 5-10% of the song that I can't touch but I find learning songs as opposed to just repeating makes it funner. If you're going to tell me a real musician is someone that writes his own music don't bother commenting. I for one can write some pretty good music, and even some stuff that's complex it just doesn't mean I could play it xD. Again though even starting at beginner to expert level any list of songs would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Tyler moreOpen Question: Good songs to start with on guitar and bass.?
I have been playing guitar for a few months, and I'm decent I think. My cousin has also been playing bass for a bit now, and we need some good recomendations for songs that we can both learn to jam together, which have tabs available for both instruments. We both like metal, but are pretty open to anything, just not country. moreOpen Question: what are scales used for in songwriting?
i just learned a bunch of major scales on guitar and piano because i heard knowing them makes you a better musician, but what are these exactly used for? I know you make chords from them, but when writing a song do all the chords come from this one scale? or how do i know what scale sounds good with another scale? i don't know much theory but any help would be appreciated! moreResolved Question: Whats a good song to learn on the guitar that girls like?
i just got new strings for my acoustic so i wanna get a song or two down moreVoting Question: How can I increase plucking speed on my electric guitar?
I've been teaching myself to play various kinds of guitar (bass, electric, classical) for about tree weeks now, and I'm actually half decent, and I've been learning the song 'sailor's hornpipe' (the Mike Oldfield Version) which starts off slow but ends up going ridiculously fast. Being a Grade 5 cellist, I have no problems keeping up with my left hand (the one on the fretboard), but I cant keep up with the plucking at the faster bits, is there any technique that I am missing to help speed up the plucking hand (right hand) . for people who do not know the song, here is a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRVt4EOOfQ8 And here are the tabs: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/m/mike_oldfield/sailors_hornpipe_ver2_tab.htm P.S. I don't use picks, as I cant get the hang of them, and they are just too slow moreVoting Question: Poll: Have you heard the song "Stairway to Heaven"? And the solo?
Learned it note for note, and HAVE had it in my back pocket since the summer of 1977 when my cousin originally laid it out for me in like a 3 part process; and it worked really good I think...I don't normally give guitar lessons; however, in '97, someone that caught us while making a living on the road,,approached me and asked IF, I would be interested in teaching him...22year old dude from Chicago,,,name J.T..(We are still friends to this day),, but anyway,,, I didn't think he was ready really and I was actually right; but when I got home to south lake tahoe, Ca where AM not living at this particular time; but usually DO, as it is my home, and have lived there just up from the clubs @ the Nevada/California state line...So,, after a couple of weeks,,I get a call from J.T..who thought he'd move on out to Tahoe.. Big change for him being from the south part of chicago...but he had a love of the blues..and my cousin who IS a blues man..(Lonnie Mack)..Lonnie did make a regular stop at "Legends"..(Buddy's joint), and JT saw us there,,,although, he just happend upon me, at a booth, foolin' with someone's accoustic,,,and trying to get it to take a tuning,,and stay... So, I was using "Stairway to heaven" as a "control"...and he heard me..and I CAN imitate J. Page's version And one of my own,,and have actually been doing it since high school in the mid '70's when I'd play the whole tune,,,about 12 or 13 minutes long when laid down properly,,,and sang with the right "Feel",,etc...I have actually officially taught that song to about 5 people in the last 30+ years,,,and the last one WAS J.T,,,and he paid me a total of $750.00, but I had to give him a whole new way of aproaching the instrumant,,,And "Undo" some really bad habits that he'd picked up somewhere;;So, we spent a good 3 weeks 'De-Programming" his incorrect aproach to the guitar in general,,,as it prevented him from being able to "Move on" alone..and teach himself stuff, and he couldn't grasp what changes, and how subtle, and chilly the whole mellow thing was, when it came to getting his abiltiy to play with a, or as part of, maybe is what I meant to say.. of a Unit...or team,,,and if enough "Nare-Do-Wells" showed up in the same place, then maybe even a quick "Thow-it-together band"...and I even layed out the basics or the basic Nashville picker's # system that they,,them..and I'm not ashamed to say I myself have better success with that old number way of dealing with other players..it's just a better way... You know what i'm talking about,,??? Like if we didn't know each other; but we could still just walk on each other's bandstand and earn a night's work because of the # system...?? Like,,I turn to you and simply say: this song's an Old Merle Haggard thing called "Footlights",,,(for the "Chance that you Might already know of the song..what it sounds like, or anything at all that could help...),,,so,,let's say you say "I'm not a walking, fossil steve,,and I have never heard of your ancient monk's chant......So,, we're lucky 'cause even though I don't actually read music near well enough to be of any practical use when entertaining for paychecks and percs....BUT..I can look at you and even if it's noisy and wildly busy in the club...we will be fine, even without ever having practiced together at any time in the past..I'll say,,,"Merle's Footlights"..in "D",,, go 1, 4, 5, with a 7th,,,get "Out of the way" for a lead break that my Telecaster Master over there's going to ease into from HIS que, that's coming from Bob,,"Grizzly" Smith,,,my Pedal Steel Guitar genious...(Watch out though; as this only applies with Bob, during actual sets throughout the night, and the genious thing will go away later,,,and the opposite effect replaces the other...Anyway,,,after the Guitar's lead break,,there's one verse, and one more run at the chorus..however?? just as Steve wraps his solo,,we're going to modulate on full step...alright with that so far??? Remember,,we started in "D"..right?? So,,You must also either be a, or become a,,singer of harmony parts,,as I'm not going to take bread out of our pockets just because one of us can't sing harmony...You'll find that to be the case in virtually every situation, where there's a club owner, and pickers, that do it as thier sole form of making a living.. So,,back to the quick rundown for the opening number of the nights 3rd set.. after the lead break, there's a full step modulation, You sing 5th part with me on the very last 2 lines of the song...And just follow, and watch my eyes,,,and within' a week or so we'll sound like we've been playing with one another for many years... Right on/??? Anyway...that's pretty much what J.T got for the "Really just sybolic" 500 bones..(I always get something out of teaching a pretty much of complete beginner what I've been toiling with since the summer of '68, when I was 7 years old,,and got my 1st electric guitar at the "Flea Market" in San Jose', CA,,, for 20 bucks,,,An old "Kay",,and an old SearsSilvertone amp..1/12,,and almost no controls, of any kind... So,,I've got "some" experience under my belt that does tend to make things easier not for me only,, but everbody leans on me from time to time, and It 'doesn't bother me man.. Who do I think I am anyway??? You know what I'm sayin'.. we're all in it to sound FANTASTIC, and for the drunks, and customers,,,to drink more,,and more,, that's what we're technically there for...it helps to remember that..And if your thinking "Oh **** that,,I don't want to deal witht that ****...here's the thing that real music player's must face sooner or later..and that's "Do you want to do this for your weekly bread,,,pay your bills, and send the kids to school, etc..??? Or,, do you want to work at K-Mart,,and meet us on Friday & Saturday ONLY??? Well,, then sorry dude; gotta let you go on your way..because we've chosen to do this for more money than Sears can pay us for selling new tires,,or working at some "Jive-Turkey" music store,,pedaling stripedaling strings and giving away picks to Johnny the Trombone student that hangs out at the store, pounding on one of the Drum Kits until we all want to choke the little turd,,and his trombone... I choose to show up for 4, maybe 5 sets a night,,,4,,maybe 5 nights a week.. Scale's usually around $500.00 a week these days; although I make Much Much, more when we hit the road,,,,that's a whole nuther trip,,,Are you through with this email now??? Steve with the Stairway to Heaven Licks, & tricks... elcamaro72@hotmail.com Bear in mind man; I wasn't able to read your whole email...and took you to be pretty much a novice learner young player..No offense...I came back and used the "Edit" thing on here to help me explain why this letter is so ,well,,the way it is...I was worried that you wouldn't follow my "Jive talkin',,which I tend to do..(I still call pickers "Cats" sometimes... I know I am a dinosaur, and that I'm one for the road... but,,that's show biz,,,Right?? One thing..zzzwhy I"mOne thing..zzzwhy I"m back here...I have been laying that Stairway lick..well, all the licks,,of all the different parts of the song as it winds it's way all the way to "And she's buying a Stairway.......to...hea.....vennnnnn/// ziiiiiiiiiipzaaaaaaaaaaptidahdahdaydadad… whatever..I'm kind of "Bozo'd" tonight man... but; my 1st reaction when I read your whole email was "NO, NO,,it's NOT that hard man,,, however..even in your email,,you remind me that '1977 was a little over 30 years ago,,,,and once the "Cat was out of the bag"...that I knew that particular tune, the WAY I did,, well, you can imagine what happens next... before you know it the same clown is standing on a cocktail table howling "FREEBIRD" over and over; and I usually give in to that request as well. As it took Almost as long to learn the proper way to deliver that beautiful song without wrecking it... "Less is more" if you can dig what I'm shoveling on that line of thought..?? It's always been about the quality for me..and my family..of which almost all play for thier bread. And have as long as my memory's started forming...so,,,"FreeBird" was a "Must Learn" for me back then too.. BUT,,I have some how lost my "Feel",,and I can't get a decent "Freebird" out of the old wooden box without a month or so to "Woodshed" ...all of them for that matter... I'm zipped man... email me IF perhaps you want to discuss any other musical interests's ,,as I have a few of my own lately and not a soul that has the foggiest idea what I'm "Lippin'" about.. Later man! Halsey... moreVoting Question: I wanna learn the guitar! =)?
Hi, I have an acoustic guitar and I would really like to learn it. My parents refuse to get me lessons so I must learn on my own. I'm really stuck, I dunno where and how to begin. Does anyone have any ideas on what sites I can use and what songs or scales to learn first?! Thanks in advance!! =) moreVoting Question: How can i write a song?
It's really hard for me to do rhyming. But i got a new book, and i want to write songs. the problem is, i don't know how to write a song, what should it be about? I thought about listening to some songs like Lady Gaga, but i don't like her lyrics (no offense to people who like her). I don't know how to start a song, because i don't have a beat either. If you listen to singers' songs (Acapella) then it sounds really cool, cause all the music is gone and you can just hear their voice. Any tips on writing songs? P.S. i am also learning the electric guitar (i've had 5 lessons so far) and im thinking if i could use my guitar as well. P.S. i'm not a Taylor swift wannabe. I'm not a wannabe, period. Thank you. Your help and kindness will be rewarded. P.S. i tried listening to MJ and his lyrics, WOW how does he think of songs!!!!!! 0_0 He was ONE amazing guy. moreResolved Question: Is it possible to learn guitar and piano at the same time without a teacher?
I just started learning how to play some songs on guitar (by YouTube tutorials) but I also really like piano, I have a begginner book and I have learned how to play some songs out of it (it wasn't that hard cuz I already knew how to read music cuz I used to play clarinet and oboe) but it seemed like everyone says piano is harder than guitar but for me it has been opposite, is that just because I'm a begginner? Also I want to take guitar lessons this summer, but I also wanna learn piano, would it be too much to learn them both at the same time? Could I possibly self-teach myself one of them? If so which one? moreVoting Question: Easy Acoustic Love Songs?

Okay i always get told you need to no the key of a song to be able to play it by ear I figured out the key of a certain song i wanted to learn was in the key of G major so does this mean i have to find the melody from the notes in the key of G major for example G, A, B, C, D, E, F♯, G , also will the bass notes be in the same key, also will the chords be in the key of G, Also i wanted to know, i already no all my basic chords and some advanced chords but say i wanted to just play a part with chords only, how can i make it sound better because when playing chords on my guitar you can strum up and down altering the sound but on a piano it just repeats. moreResolved Question: I've come up with the most romantic idea ever and with it I'll confess my feelings but does she feel the same?
Me and my gf have been dating for almost 7 months now. Everything is going great and she is definitely the most amazing girlfriend I've ever had hands down. I'd totally describe her but that won't exactly pinpoint how I feel about her. Before I questioned it but now I'm certain... I'm definitely falling in love with her and at this point I don't want to just randomly toss those words around. I'm afraid i'll end up ruining what we have. But i decided that life's too short and even if she doesn't love me back I'm going to tell her how I feel; what the hell might as well cause holding it in ain't easy. But the thing is I'm not just going to randomly tell her I decided I am going to do it the best way I can and make it special. SO I learned how to play 1234 by Plain White t's on my acoustic guitar and I sing and play for her on her birthday in May. I'm also gonna take her to a romantic place of course lol. I'm putting LOTS of time into learning this song for her and tell her I lvoe her through the song. Ready for the bad part? We've had this conversation about love before and well, frankly, let's just say it didn't go well. Well it did at the time because I didn't love her then and she clearly flat out told me she doesn't love me(we had this conversation around our 4th or 5th month). Now I'm in no rush like I said, I'm perfecting this song for her and everything. But now I'm confused.... What bugs me is she said that she doesn't feel that way about me but i'm honestly confused on whether or not she feels the same. I feel like she'll really appreciate the time I put into this song for her, but unfortunately I just don't know if she even feels the same. One day though i managed to spot the word "love" in her prettiest handwriting written on her inner thigh very lightly. I didn't say anything because well I thought I was just makin a big deal outta nothin. My theory is maybe she got bored and ddid it. But it was in her best handwriting that I've ever seen and... why would she take the time to randomly do that? I'm just going to tell her through the song like I said. I know she'll love it. But what scares me is the fact that she might not love me back and I'm afraid I'll lose her after I say it through the song. We will have been dating for almost 9 months when I finally do this. So yea. Do you guys think theres A possibility she loves me back? moreVoting Question: What are some good gothic rock songs for a beginner to learn on the guitar?

I can't think of anything to learn anymore. I fail a complicated songs, most involving B and F chords. Mostly because I can't bar my finger across the fretboard, but that's besides the point. The songs I've learned are Remembering Sunday- All Time Low; The Best Day- Taylor Swift; Whoever She Is- The maine; Time of Your Life- Green Day; and I'd hate to be you when people find out what this song is about- Mayday Parade. Yeah, I haven't learned much. I like music like that. And some underground people. Like Jonny Craig and Dance Gavin Dance. I need ideas. What song should i choose to learn on guitar. It should be a good one, probably clean/acoustic in parts. I don't know when Ill get an amp. I am a beginner, I have been playing for almost 3 months at school and trying other things by myself at home. I have tried the very beginnings of some songs like One by Metallica, Fade To Black by Metallica, The Day That Never Comes by Metallica, Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones, and thats about all that I have been pretty successful with. Only the very beginnings though. I also played the chords for Comfortably Numb and probably got like 85% when playing with the song. I still cannot switch fingers very fast, but if I learn a song I could practice doing it in that song. Please suggestions. Not any older than 1975 please. You could suggest trying the songs i have tried the beginning too. moreResolved Question: Do you know who I am talking about?

I've got a guitar musical assessment in a few weeks, and have been given the option between two songs on the guitar to play for the teacher to demonstrate what we've learned. They're both two chord songs and are incredibly dull.
