Hi guys (: I'm 14, almost 15, and really want to learn how to play the acoustic guitar! We have one from when my brother used to play a little, but it seems a bit small now, as it's been awhile. Hi, I am attempting to learn how to play the guitarm but due to my diability this is a massive challenge which I am determined to master. I am getting on reasonably well with learning chords and switching between them but I am looking for information on strumming patterns. Is there a standard notation on how you should strum a tune? Since I want to play pop/rock my friends reccomend I start with electric because I would want to practice more since that is what I'm aiming towards. I've known a couple chords on the guitar for a long time, but have never really had time to learn properly (I also play piano and cello). Well, recently, I picked up my dad's guitar and decided to learn "Drifting" by Andy McKee. (I used some tabs I found online and a tutorial video on YouTube.) It took me three days, and now I'm hooked (haha). So, my question is, where do I go from here? I'm thinking some other fairly easy Andy McKee stuff (actually I like almost all the CandyRat artists), but I don't know where to start. Any ideas? Voting Question: What Songs Would You Recommend To Learn On Guitar To Slowly Progress?

Hey People, I'm looking to improve my guitar skills. I love to play alot of rock and heavier stuff like Avenged Sevenfold. When it comes to Avenged Sevenfold I can often play most of the song but there's always that like 5-10% of the song that I can't touch but I find learning songs as opposed to just repeating makes it funner. If you're going to tell me a real musician is someone that writes his own music don't bother commenting. I for one can write some pretty good music, and even some stuff that's complex it just doesn't mean I could play it xD. What song should i choose to learn on guitar. It should be a good one, probably clean/acoustic in parts. I don't know when Ill get an amp. I am a beginner, I have been playing for almost 3 months at school and trying other things by myself at home. I have tried the very beginnings of some songs like One by Metallica, Fade To Black by Metallica, The Day That Never Comes by Metallica, Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones, and thats about all that I have been pretty successful with. Only the very beginnings though. I also played the chords for Comfortably Numb and probably got like 85% when playing with the song. I still cannot switch fingers very fast, but if I learn a song I could practice doing it in that song. Please suggestions. Not any older than 1975 please. Resolved Question: Learning to Play the Banjo?

I learned how to read music in school as a little kid and taught myself to play piano (I'm pretty good) a couple years back. I can play a little bass guitar, but not as much as piano, and now I'm seriously considering learning to play banjo. My question is, as a near-complete beginner in the realm of stringed instruments, will I be able to teach myself to play banjo? I'm a pretty smart guy, so I think I could understand the mechanics of it, and, as I said, I taught myself to play piano a couple years ago and have grown quite proficient in it, so I know I have the ability, patience, and discipline to teach myself a new instrument. And I'm also pretty good with music in general. I'm just looking for a knowledgeable third party's thoughts on this, so what's your honest opinion? Also, if you do feel I can learn it, can you recommend any good starting banjos or beginner's banjo kits/books? Preferably ones that I can find online for a relatively low price (I'm just doing it for fun, I don't want to spend a fortune) that are still of acceptable quality? I know that's a lot to ask, but I really could use some help on this one. Thank you. more

My main problem is that i don't know where to begin. in a few months my sister is getting a bass for her birthday and I want to get a head start on learning so I can teach her as well. Alright, I'm very interested in learning to play the clarinet. (I play guitar, bass and percussion seriously, as well as a bit of banjo, mandolin and piano. Just a bit of fiddling with those last three, really.) I really want to branch out a bit, and I've always been interested in the clarinet. I want to learn to play it - mainly for jazz. I am a guitarist and have been for about 7 years. I play electric guitar and bought an acoustic about a year ago which I take everywhere. Voting Question: What is the proper left hand fingering when going up the bass guitar neck on one string?

I have been searching endlessly all over the internet for this. When I was learning violin, I remember there were proper "positions" for the left hand fingers when playing up the neck of the instrument. You couldn't just use your fingers any way you felt like. And even though I feel like i have graduated from being a beginner bassist, I still can't find a way effective way to run up and down the neck without just using one or two fingers. Did anyone have any formal bass training that could help me with this? Or even if you didn't have any training but you have mastered this? Please help.To be more concise, what is the proper order of the fingers when going up the fretboard on one string. more
