Im a complete beginner and can't play sheet music well but i want to learn some songs from zelda. And some obvious stuff like Minda's Lament (also known as Minda's Desperate Hour), Hyrule field (either original or the new one from TP), The ones people will recognize cause there so awesome. Not the wimpy easy versions either, the big long ones that would actually go in the game. Resolved Question: So chasing dreams and shadows, what do i do?

Well here goes... When I was young, like most people i loved listening to stories and fairy tales. I remember the sense of wonder and mystery that they struck up in me, that made the world seem like such a wonder full place. As soon as i could read i began devouring books based on fantasy and the surreal. Then I began to grow up. People started to tell me that these stories weren't real, that these dreamlike utopia's were impossible and that the world is a much more boring place. From the moment that I was first ridiculed for being so fixated by one of these stories i began to despise the world for tricking me into believing such things, from my perspective it was just such horrible lying that i couldn't believe people would do this to me. I began to distance myself from people, not because of my hatred but because I was ashamed, of both my hatred and that I couldn't bring myself to give up my little world. As an adolescent I became madly confused. I was way passed the time where I was expected to give this sort of thing up but at the same time I had people talking to me about religion. About how they had this one story that you don't need to let anyone mock you for, that they had a truth. But I didn't need that, it was too easy and i needed to learn things for myself. So i started "expanding my mind" not through drugs you understand, but through art and music and philosophy as well as science and maths. I began to spend inn ordinate amounts of money on computer/console games where, though i was never good at them, it gave me an opportunity to be something else. To live in a separate world where not all was material for however brief a time. I also began playing rugby and taking frequent trips to the gym, not for enjoyment or for vanity, and not for the sense of community either. But so that secretly I knew that if the world ever decided to yield unto my fantasies I'd be ready... though i'd never admit this to myself at the time. Women were of no interest to me, though i'd occasionally have a bit of fun my mind would never let me form a serious relationship, I wasn't scared i just wouldn't do it. It seems alien to me why someone would want to restrict themselves any more than is necessary. All this is true to this day. I have this philosophy you see, which is based on what I've found and if anyone would ask me seriously, whether i honestly believed such an impossible theory i simply wouldn't answer. Not out of arrogance but because its up to other people to discover how they feel for themselves. It goes like this. "In an infinite universe everything is probable. So therefore everything can, and must, exist. Though, by the very nature of the infinite you will never prove this sufficiently enough to call this evidence for a deeper understanding of the universe" You see, what art and literature creates in my mind, is the absolute truth as proved to me by science and mathematical theory. And here lies the problem: I will often set out in a random direction to find something that most will believe can't possibly be there... even if it takes me hours I will sit alone at night and talk to the stars and beg them to give me some proof. I will speak random "magic words" to anything that i see fit to. I will by things i don't need completely at a whim because it "feels right" It causes me insomnia and deep emotional pain to finish a story and know that i will probably never have such an experience. Sometimes resulting in me having to kneel or sit down hunched over for several minutes until i can sufficiently distract myself. I will be outwardly aggressive and deliberately controversial in public as i feel so insignificant it doesn't matter. And whats worse i can feel things, tangible emotional things that urge me to push on and chase whatever dream is occupying my fancy. I'm at a loss and I don't think i'm insane or mentally impaired in any way. I look at the world and believe other people are insane, not being able to see what i see or have the open mindedness to accept that there is more to life than there is. I pick up my guitar what i create dosn't sound wrong... it sounds oddly beautiful though i cannot recreate what i made afterwards. What do i do? I'm not even sure that I have a problem but "normality" says otherwise more

Resolved Question: Is it too late for me to learn piano and guitar for college?

Im a Junior in high school and Im looking at majors. Ive decided Im really interested in Music therapy. The only problem is that I need to be able to play piano guitar and sing. Im pretty decent at singing i guess but i haven't played piano since I was 8 because my teacher's son got cancer. I started teaching myself guitar about a year ago but clearly that is not even close enough to being good enough for an audition, very basic stuff. This is something i really want to pursue but I need to know if this is realistic or too late in the game. Any suggestions? Also, since you dont have to declare your major until junior year would it be better for me to learn these instruments more and then declare music therapy junior year when im more experienced?? more

Resolved Question: I think my dad may have molested me (WARNING: I wrote a lot.)?

Okay, so I really need to know what happened here....I don't remember how old I was, but I was really young. Maybe 5-7. I'm not sure. But, my dad used to take me to the beach all the time. My parents aren't together anymore, so I went with just him. Sometimes, my friend would come, but this only happened when it was just me and him. After he'd put sunblock on me, he would take me into one of the portable bathrooms and say that he needed to put sunblock in my butt or something. Then, he put something in my butt. I thought it was his finger. Again, I was really little and had no idea what was going on. That's all I remember about it. I'm not sure how many times this happened, but I know it was more than once, at least twice. A while later (maybe a week), I told my mom that my butt itched and hurt really bad. She asked me if anything happened and I told her that my dad put sunblock in my butt. Then, she took me to the doctor and my maternal grandparents were there, too. The doctor checked me over and that's all I remember about that. I'm not sure if my mom took my dad to court or not. I'm almost sure they talked about it, though. After that, it never happened again. I later learned that my parents didn't have sex at all after I was born, but they were still together for a while. My mom told me (this was probably two years ago) that she was always afraid that my dad had molested me. I thought it was stupid and told her it never happened. But, now I remember it more. Please, don't make fun of me. This is bothering me and I'm confused. I'm 14 now and haven't seen my dad in over a year because my mom and I moved. Also, when I would still see him part of the time, he wouldn't let me do my homework until after supper so I would be up until 12 and I would have to get up at 7. I was 12 then so I needed at least 10 hours of sleep. I still got D's and F's because I couldn't finish my homework. He wouldn't let me shower, either. He wouldn't give me clean sheets and I sometimes used the same ones for a year. He used to give me old food and I've gotten food poisoning at least 4 times from it. He doesn't hardly clean his apartment at all. Not to mention, my dad has been harassing my mom since before I was born. He did it almost constantly. He would come over to our house and scream at her. He even broke some of our appliances on purpose. But, he was nice to my face, most of the time. He would let me see my friends all the time and go on the computer. We would joke around and talk about anything. He always listened. However, he did make fun of my ears which "stuck out" (and they fucking DIDN'T), my teeth (which apparently had a gap that went away in a year), and my hair which looked like a "RAT'S NEST." When I was little, he didn't feed me enough or give me anything to drink when I was at his house. Now, he's trying to get me back to my home state and put me in public school where I was failing. I'm doing fine in home school: straight A's. I'm really interested in music and I want it as a career. I have guitar and piano lessons from my mom and I'm in marcing band. He doesn't want me to have time to focus on music, so I will be doing schoolwork for about 10 hours a day again, and still get D's and F's. When I asked him if he could teach me guitar (because he's really good), he said no because "girls don't do that." He doesn't care about me, he just wants someone to keep him company while he sit on his ass playing computer games. He doesn't even have a real job, he sells beer at football games and is a bus driver (I'm sure he got fired from that). He used to make me cook, most of the time. I'm just wondering what the heck is going on with my father who I used to have fun with when we went to the park or whatever, and why he did all these horrible things behind my back. Sorry if this is "TL;DR" but, I need some help!! Please! My dad has two kids from a previous marriage. They're 20 years older than me and have kids of their own. He did neglectful things to them, as well. Just saying. So, he was ready for a child, he just didn't understand, I guess.Oh, and we have to go back to my home state because we can't afford to stay here, anymore (recession, you know).Another thing I should say is that he lost his brother in a car accident, almost lost his sister, and his own father died. His parents did the same thing to him (wouldn't let him finish his homework; let him get bad grades).Sorry. Last detail: I would NOT want to get a restraining order against him. I want to work things out. more

Resolved Question: Do you think video Games are bad? If you read this, do you still think it's bad?

It has been assumed by some parents that video games can decrease a child’s intelligence due to the pointless violence in the game, but evidence suggests otherwise. Many studies have proven that playing video games can improve children’s skills in math and comprehension earning them higher scores on benchmark exams . Children have to discover the rules of a game and how to think strategically, video games can relieve stress, and more than 70 percent of video games contain no more bloodshed than a game of Risk . Children have to discover the rules of a game and learn how to think strategically. For example most games contain multiple tasks that must be completed in order to advance through the game. "Well we have to get the Jeep, we have to ride up a hill, kill the snipers, drive past the mountainside, go into another giant palace and activate the remote," said one 10-year-old interviewed by ABC News while playing the Halo 2 video game, designed for the Microsoft Xbox gaming system. Completing multiple tasks using whatever resources the game provides the player can improve the player’s fluid intelligence (problem-solving skills.) Video games can relieve stress. Some believe that reading is a better alternative, but reading relieves stress by allowing the reader to mentally visit a different world for a short period of time. When one plays a video game they see, hear, and control the world they are in, bringing the player deeper into the world than one who reads. Also if one is feeling stressed they can shoot and/or beat up a character in a video game, rather than hurting someone in the real world. More than 70 percent of video games contain no more bloodshed than a game of Risk . Most parents that do not approve of video games envision bombs, bangs and blood. Only about 30 percent of all video games have violence, and most of those can improve the player’s fluid intelligence. Very few video games are completely worthless games with no benefits whatsoever. Even the Super Smash Brothers series, the Guitar Hero series, and the halo series have some benefits. For example, Super Smash Brothers is excellent for improving hand-eye-coordination because there are many button combinations that must be performed quickly in order to best attack the opponent. It also helps with reasoning skills because each character has different abilities and the player must decide how to best overcome their opponent’s abilities with their own. Guitar hero is also very good for hand-eye-coordination, and it helps improve reflexes because the player is sometimes required to quickly and accurately press multiple buttons or else they fail. Halo, as it has already been stated, can improve fluid intelligence. Many video games, even certain violent ones, have many benefits. They can improve fluid intelligence, hand-eye-coordination, strategic thinking, reasoning, reflexes, and they can relieve stress. While many may believe that video games are a waste of time, more and more evidence has proven again and again that there are definitely some benefits for children that play video games. more

Resolved Question: Help picking a college major?

I really need some help picking the right college major for me; whenever I ask our college counselors, they seem to direct you to what’s going to make you the most money- regardless if you are interested or not. I know I’m throwing myself to the bowels of the internet, but here it goes: I’m not sure what exactly I wish to do. All I’ve known is that I wish to be an entrepreneur of sorts- however, college isn’t necessary for that, so I didn’t want to choose the generic Business major (no offense to those who did). I excelled in high school whenever I tried (or whenever I wasn’t lazy), particularly in English and History. I’m interested in Computers and Technology, but I’m shying away from some of the math/science-heavy degree plans. It’s not that I’m bad at math; whenever I actually did my homework or studied, I made As and Bs, and whenever I fucked around I got C+ or Fs (or Ds depending on where you live). It’s that I don’t find math “fun” or “interesting”, like I see so many others do. While I can tolerate mathematics and sciences, I question whether or not I will enjoy a career in this field. Not only that, but when it comes to programming one doesn’t need to go to school to learn that craft- there’s a dozens of books in which you can teach yourself at your own pace. Most job openings even say “Bachelor in Computer Science or related knowledge.” I’ve been tooling around with programs like Photoshop and Paint.net for years, with designs and image altering for various people. I also used to make little “Sprites” and games using the “RPG Maker” engine when I was 10. I’m not a pro at it, but its something that I enjoyed doing whenever I had the vision. The downside is that my “skill” is purely digital, and that I suck ass at drawing (that can be changed with practice, though,so that's not an argument). I do enjoy playing video games, and I have for years; however, the same issues I have with this major is the same as I do with the previous major. I love music. Plain and simple. I wish to take music theory classes and learn how to play the piano and the guitar to better my skills. I have aural abilities and I can sing. Whenever the motivation, I like to write. I’ve been free writing since I was a kid, and I have mounds of fiction short stories to various amounts of poems. I developed the interest of film and screenwriting when I was a kid, so I’ve always had an interest in the arts and in entertainment since a kid. Of course, the downside to that is the lack of careers choices that come with Music majors and English majors. I have no desire to teach whatsoever, and I have no long history of playing any instrument- so anything musical would be for my own benefit. I’d hate to go major in English then say 5 years later “I can’t find a good job in this field.” And with film comes the dozens of people who pursue their dreams and come back with absolutely nothing. I don’t care about “fame”, but I’d rather not be assed out, you know? As you can see, I have a multitude of ideas with little to no idea how to put these plans in action. Ultimately, I want to go to school to learn something I normally couldn’t on my own that would give me an edge, but I don’t want to major in something that’ll be a complete waste of time, nor just do something for the money. I mean, if I get the money, that’s all great too… Anyway, I know I’m throwing myself to the sharks here, but: What do you think I should major in? Inb4 any memes. Also, don’t give me that “do what you love to do” crap. I’m not asking you this question for a generic answer that I can get from the nearest homeless man. And if there is a way to somehow combine all of these, let me know! more

Resolved Question: How do I stop being a loser?

I'm in my final years of High School and I've NEVER had a girlfriend. I've never even had anything remotely close to a girlfriend. The girl I'm currently crushing on, is the same girl I've liked since 5th grade!! But I never had the guts to tell her, and besides i think she already has a boyfriend. But that's not all, I have NOTHING going for me besides school. I never have anything to do on the weekends, and the one hour of free time that I have (that isn't spent on homework) is spent on Call of Duty 6 (AWESOME game btw). My friends all have lives and girlfriends so they can't hang with me much. I have no car or license and my parents don't intend on letting me drive anytime soon. Please help...I'm SICK and tired of being labeled as the biggest loser in skool. No joke, they even thought about nominating me for that in the yearbook. So please help, give me some ideas on how I can stop being such a pathetic loser. I've tried everything; sports (i was cut from every team I tried to join) girlfriends (rejected by every girl I asked out; minus the girl from 5th grade) musical instruments (I'm currently learning how to play guitar, but i suck : ( So PLEASE help me... : ( The more elaborate the answer the better : )That's the thing...I don't act like I'm a loser. I'm usually the class clown! I do everything I can to give peolpe a good laugh! I act confident in myself, and it's not even that I'm shy cuz I'm everything but! more

Resolved Question: What are some things that I should ask for Christmas?

My parent's keep on bugging me about it, and I really don't know. I'm a 16 year old guy, soon to be 17, so it could also be a really big gift that doubles as a birthday present. Some things to note: I have a car I have an Xbox I don't want a new iPod I don't want an iPhone I like to put things together I'm really into music and music production, I play the piano and the guitar (I have flanger, phaser, wah, distortion, and delay pedals), oh and I do have a recording thing for my computer and Logic Pro 8 I only want one video game, I hate getting multiple games at a time, and I can't decide between Left 4 Dead 2 or Assassin's Creed II A cool new instrument to learn would be neat I don't want a PS3 or a Wii If anyone has any ideas of what I should ask for that'd be cool. And if there are any other guys out there around my age that know what they're asking for, just post it and that'd be appreciated. Oh and I'm not going to ask my parents to donate money, call me selfish but I'd rather have the money. And telling me to just tell my parents to surprise me won't help because I already tried and they said that they aren't going to surprise me (which of course mean that they might). And please no philosophical answers like "world peace" or "to end world hunger" more

Resolved Question: Do these sound like nice presents for my daughters for Christmas?

I've been buying for my daughter for Christmas as my husband decided he knew what our son who isn't born yet would want. Our daughters are 6 and 2. For the 2 year old: Leapfrog learning centre and games, some clothes as she's grown out of some, a wooden railway set, a play work bench, some hand made toys like a teddy bear and a few handmade dolls. We have also gotten her a trike which is her big present. For the 6 year old: A new guitar (My husband's old one) , lots of second hand books, some clothes, a new journal for her to write in, new set of drawing pencils. She is also getting a DSi with some games as her big present. For our son (I'm pregnant with) we have gotten: clothes, baseball gloves (they used to belong to my husband and his father, we got them mended), some homemade stuffed toys and he's also getting my husband's first guitar in his room. The guitar is almost 40 years old as the guitar belonged to my husband's older brother originally. Are these nice presents or too much? more

Ok so im 15 and big fan of music games like guitar hero and rock band. I own a guitar but i find it way to hard to play. I play some parts of songs but not so good. I want to learn how to play a instrument really good. When i play with the drum kit in my games i feel as if im doing ok. I wonder if its better to stop playing guitar and play the drums or if I should start with the drums. I really like both instruments but what do you guys think. Which one will be faster for me to learn. Thanx more

Resolved Question: Video games and marriage?

my husband has started to spend lots more time on the computer playing a few games and guitar hero. i often have to remind him to do his homework for classes, chores, i even had to register him for his classes or he would not have been able to graduate next semester. he has always been a gamer, but over the last year he has begun to play much more. he gets home at 4:45 and plays until 2a.m. easy and if her gets bored he just pick up another game. He plays wow, day of defeat, moon-gate, battle field, and guitar hero. he has weekends off and they are dedicated to gaming no matter what. I have attempted to discuss it, but he gets angry and i feel like a nag. i hate feeling that way. i hate talking to him just to find out that for the last 10 minutes he has been raiding and has totally missed everything i said. plus we roommate with his friend who is the same way as my husband. he often interjects on our conversations and makes me feel like i am being ganged up on. I would hate to say that I am jealous of the games. am i being to harsh? he says he cannot be my source of entertainment and that i need to find things to do for myself. i do things. i have a horse i ride and i go to the movies "alone because he will not go" but i go anyways. i play games at my family's house on game night. i just want to include him. should i just do my own thing and learn to deal and find happiness in my life that does not include my husband?and i have tried to play these games and include myself in his interests, but he gets frustrated when i have played because i am not as dedicated to the games and just plain suck at guitar hero. but i tired. more

Voting Question: Am I too old to develop a talent?

First of all, I'm 14. I remember when I was really young I tried soccer and karate, and I didn't enjoy either. I tried playing the cello, but I was too lazy to do that anymore. Since then I haven't done anything (literally, nothing). I've wanted to learn to play guitar but I feel as if it's too late in the game. I always here people say, "Oh, I've been playing since I was 7," or something like that. Is it too late? more

Resolved Question: GIRLS, could she still like me?

At work, she'll text me even thought I'm 2 feet from her. She wants us to do this workout thing together. She wanted us to dress up for halloween as a pair thing. Shes text me a few times when she was having a bad day at work. She claims she wont quit as long as I'm there. She wanted me at work the other day when she has a headache and didnt feel good. She asked me to stay later and grocery shop with her. She s getting more and more touchy, arms, chest, good game thing, which I dont mind. She wants me to play guitar for her, including recording some stuff for her and learning some songs she likes. If she does quit, she claims she wants me to go with her to her next job. She joked about breaking up with me the other day and being on a break even thought weve never dated. Everyone thinks we like each other cuz of the flriting going on between us. She seemed to get quiet the other day when I mentioned going out with this girl that I used to like, and then got talky again when I made it clear we were just friends! Thats what she was doing before I started talking to someone else. Shes had the same boyfriend throughout all this. And when I started talking to another girl cuz I thought me and her wouldnt work out, she seemed to get jealous, but now that that girl hasnt worked out, shes getting back to the same way. I like her alot, but this boyfriend thing is driving me crazy. Whats up? more

Voting Question: Please Explain the ignorance of people towards video games?

Non-gamers can't seem to differentiate Virtual Reality and Reality. Which I find ironic. More specifically when it comes to violent games and on the flip-side music based games(more specifically Guitar Hero). For example one of the biggest arguments that constantly went on through the 90's was that violent video games beget violent people. I find this is a simplistic and foolish way to look at media(which really is just a modern extension of previous generations[violent movies in the 80's and music since the 50's as a scapegoat for violent people or violent actions]). What really amazes me is this very negative reaction to a video game such as Guitar Hero. Yes, it's not a tool for music education but it is a family video game(bar certain songs). This is where my question comes into play. Why in the hell can't these people realize that playing Guitar Hero doesn't mean you have ANY interest in learning guitar. Some will but when it comes right down to it, it is just a game and can be enjoyed as such. So why can't a vast amount of people get over that fact that a video game is just virtual reality and does not mean that the players of those games will try and imitate that virtual reality. more

Resolved Question: Does playing children's card games make you a nerd? (Also, am I a nerd)?

Just curious, because for some reason, I've always tried to avoid the label. I'm moderately attractive, not that that has anything to do with it. For a time, I did play Magic: the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokemon, (of course, I only played Pokemon until 5th grade, I played Yu-Gi-Oh until 8th grade because I decided high school was coming, and it was nerdy to like it.) I played Magic for about six months just because I wanted to beat the crap out of everybody in my dorm (I stopped playing as soon as I was able to wipe the floor with them.) Before you judge, maybe first I should tell you WHY I started playing these immature card games. I've always loved competition. When somebody's good at something, a lot of the time, I'll focus nonstop on beating them. I'm happy when I'm on top, and I'm a pretty quick learner. It's not just card games, either. I'd gladly spend hours practicing tennis or working out if it meant that I'd master something and wipe the floor with the competition. It was the same in newspaper, and in French class. Right now, I'm learning how to program and am learning guitar. I think knowing how to program something could be a handy skill later on, and I might move right up to lock-picking and robbing banks. Those could both be very useful too. No, I don't have a girlfriend. I'm 19. I've never really had a successful relationship. I think it's because I go after the girls who would rather flirt than have a serious relationship. I'm not socially inept or anything, but I do think I could get out more, (which I would if I had a car.) So: now, for the million-dollar question. Does playing card games make you a nerd if you only play card games to beat other people who play card games? Also, why do I care? I couldn't tell you why I care... it was 7:00 in the morning, I hadn't gotten any sleep, and I was curious. OH, and bonus question: if I were a nerd- hypothetically, of course- would it make me somehow less desirable? I've always thought my trouble with relationships was caused by my over-complicating them, not my undesirability or possible social ineptitude. more

Resolved Question: Why Am I so PARANOID?

I DO NOT NEED UNEDUCATED ANSWERS PLEASE. I NEED HONESTY AND SYMPATHY SINCE WE ARE ALL HUMAN. THANK YOU So the issue I am facing now is my fear of letting my bf do his own thing. We have lived together 3 years. I used to not be so worried about him and where he went because we did not live together and he was crazy aboout me. I was career driven n he was turned on by my drive. Now, i have no job right now (Laid off due to company downsizing) and am still looking for one, and have no money so I cannot get busy. All my friends are out of town and I do not have a phone. So I am always lonely anyway. And i get sad when he goes to see his friends because I know something that we both find hard to admit: WE ARE NOT VERY COMPATIBLE. WE USED TO BE, BUT NOT SO MUCH ANYMORE! We used to smoke weed a lot together (he got me into it) and just watch movies and have sex. I got sick of being this lazy duo so i got driven again and am not so into his world of pothead friends since they are sooooo brain dead. He never went to college and hate studying. I am IN LOVE with knowledge and learning new things. But somehow we still love each other and want to be together. But i know when he sees his friends he feel more like himself and more free. With me he has to be on his best behavior and be a good boyfriend and i guess he does not like the feeling of "going to work" in a relationship. I feel for him. And yet he loves me and wants to be with me no matter what even if it involves changing himself a little (less pot smoking, more romance). BUT, I get sooooo secretly anxious when he leaves to his friends because I know we are so different that I feel like I am a loser because I am not as funny/cool/entertaining as he thinks his friends are. ALSO, I am scared that one day some girl who is more like him will show up to his friends house and she will be a lot more like him and make him laugh and love weed like loves it n i will be dumped. I KNOW I AM NOT THE BEST MATCH FOR HIM and yet we love each other. I AM NOT acting sad in his face, but inside I feel like a loser. I just feel like one day the inevitable will happen and she will sweep him off his feet. He is this pot smoking, guitar playing guy who likes video games, southpark, and laughing a lot and not talking much. I am this college educated, charismatic artist who is loves smart people , books, conversation, poetry, etc....See the difference? I am so scared some tattoo loving pothead hottie willl come and take him. HOW do I get this issue to stop bothering me?? How do I stay happy with who I am and not fear for what I consider inevitable? I am suffering with Insomnia because he is going to his friends tomorrow and i am going to feel sooo depressed and jealous secretly because I know they make him laugh more than me and he is happy there more than here and yet he does not admit it more

Resolved Question: Guitarists, Does guitar hero/ Rockband annoy you?

I know it's just a game but don't you ever think whats the point in people playing these games? Surely they would be better to learn to play the guitar for real and the amount of time a lot of kids spend on playing these games, if they changed to spending it learning an instrument properly a lot of them would be bloody good guitarists!!!!!!! I don't object if it gets some people into learning to play for real but a lot of the time people will sit for hour on end playing at yet wouldn't know one end of a guitar from the other. Also if you play these games but don't play a real instrument what is your opinion? and why don't you learn dammit!!!!!!!!! lolNo not everything does and in small doses fine but people play it constantly! And yes it's so irritating when you tell someone songs you can play on guitar and they say 'ah well I can get a 100% on that on guitar hero' like it's better! more

Resolved Question: Why does everyone hate Rock Band?

This is more of a video game section than a music section, but I put it here, and not in the game section because I wanna get more than just the viewpoints of other gamers. Anyway question time...Why is it that when I play Madden noone tells me to try out for the Colts, or when I play Call of Duty noone tells me to join the Marines, but when I play Rock Band; half a million ppl tell me "learn how to paly a real instrument"? They always say "oh you suck, I can paly that on a real guitar, this is a stupid game for 10 year olds, get a life, grow a penis, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah". These people contradict themselves. They say "it's not real it's a videogame". But that's exactly what they forget. Noone said I could play real guitar. I play a litte. But I'm not that good at it. Gimme a plastic one and I'll shred. I'm content with that. And to the person who palys the real guitar; no I can't but I doubt you could do what I do in Rock Band. That's because one is a musical instrument, and the other is a video game. Different worlds. So the next time you're going to insult somone for palying rock band, just remember that the only person comparing a video game to real music, is you. Your thoughts on the matter?Try to ignore the fact that I spelled play wrong a million times. It's a bad typing habit I have, I always spell that word wrong.Well I don't know why I'm bothering Dave, cause you obviously don't read additional details. But anyway that's actually a good thing. Rock Band has gotten me into alot of bands that I love now because I heard them for the first time on the game. I don't like bandwagon fans either but if you hear them on the game, and then proceed to listen to their other stuff, and buy the albums, and go to the concerts, and like them for the music and not for the game, what's wrong with that? more

Voting Question: Dont go out much? hardly no friends? depressed? never had gf..?

Hey, before i start, I'm 15, nearly 16 and i am from the UK... ok this is kinda embarrassing lol, anyway, so heres my problem... Ok, well, i have a few friends at school, but thats not my main concern, its just that i have never had a gf lol, its not that i'm ugly or anything, its just that i'm quite shy, and i dont go out that much...all i basicly do is, wake up, goto school, finish school then go home, then spend some time at home(i spend time at home learning/studying programming/developing desktop applications, and Games, web sites, which i am planning to be a professional software developer/engineer in the future, and play/learn guitar as a hobbie, and spend some time revising school stuff) then goto sleep...thats all i do mainly in most of my days. It just feels like i'm never going to have a gf lol, cause i'm doing the same thing... maybe, i'll meet new ppl overtime, when i goto college or university? cause seriously, i really dont go out that much, and spend most of my time at home? help? more

Voting Question: I can't do anything at all I give up.?

I give up, I'm 21 years old with 0 talent at any thing. I tried my hand at video game's I played and played to hope I could get money I suck at it. I try to play guitar I can't learn any good songs it's to hard plus my pinkie is broken has a bone stuck in it. That's going to be there for the rest of my life. I can't spell, I can't read well. I have a nervous problem and I have carpel tunnel. I hate my life I'm not meant to be good at anything. I really want to crash my car as hard as I can and kill myself. The only thing I have is my gf she's the only one in my life that even remotely cares about me. Other then that I want to die so bad more

Voting Question: Why do people play guitar hero when it costs more and is harder to play?

Uhmm... I've seen people blow hundreds of dollars on these complete setups, and all the bonus disks and stuff, all the different versions of the games. And it's like... why bother? I play real guitar and after two weeks I was rocking, it takes less effort to learn guitar than it does to play a song on expert mode! With the money they spend they could buy a decent acoustic or a nice little beginner's electric package... I just don't get why people waste their money and countless hours on these games when they could be doing the real thing for much less time and money. Plus nothing beats the satisfaction of playing a song all the way through with a live band, it's a better feeling than scoring any amount of points in some stupid game could ever reacreate.Dude must be shit at bass then... cause I was playing jaco solos within my first year. Maybe he should spend more time actually practicing the real thing instead of playing some bullsh*t game, kinda the point. And I'd rather spend time actually doing the real thing and being fat bald and unfulfilled, than playing some video game and doing the same thing. At least I'd have gave life a shot. Guys need to get out more... more

Voting Question: Learning guitar, Am I right handed or left handed?

Okay, so I recently got a guitar and I've been learning it right handed, as that is the way it's strung. I'll start off by saying that I do write right handed only, however...when playing sports like basketball I shoot left handed, when playing pool I favor the left hand, and (I don't know if this is important), whenever I play guitar hero I play lefty. I know that it's just a game, but does that mean that I should switch the strings? Thanks more

Hi all users, I'm an 18 year old male and I can't get a job anywhere, I must have applied for over 25 places since the beginning of summer and have only heard back from 3. Resolved Question: How do I deal with hypocritical friends?

Yesterday my friend and her husband sat me down and told me that they were worried about my health because they feel that I am a negative person. This really hurt and they didn't offer any solutions to the problem. They said, "We're tired of being your dumping ground." I didn't know what to say- it just hit me and I was shocked. They told me I need to do more positive stuff, but decided not to say anything about the positive stuff that I HAVE been doing, like learning to play guitar and having bought one this week, or the fact that I have lots of board games that I asked if they (mostly she) wanted to play, movies that I thought would be fun to see that they (again mostly 'she') said they thought looked stupid. Ultimately, their suggestion that I find more positive things to do with my life is sort of a thing that I'd already been working on for some time (don't we all?). The reason it hurt was that I was under the impression that me talking about work was acceptable to my friend; after all, I sit and listen to her complain about other friends, graduate school, her family and politics. Last weekend I was talking to her about Greek Mythology and other far-out fiction like Alice in Wonderland. She said she didn't like that stuff because it was just too unrealistic to her, whereas I really like it and I was saying how cool I thought it was. Her husband agreed with me and when she started to get irritated about us still talking about it he said to her, "I really feel sorry for you that you can't enjoy that and I think you are depriving yourself of some great stories." They started to argue in front of me... she got mad at him for saying that and I started to feel uncomfortable. I thought about leaving, but I felt like I was also responsible for the situation (since I started talking about the subject in the first place) and wanted to stay and try to fix the situation. He ended up storming off into another room and I told her that I think that there was a misunderstanding in their communication and that she shouldn't take what he said to heart. She wouldn't listen to me, so I stopped trying. By the time I left several hours later they seemed to have worked it out well enough after we watched some tv and talked about other things. This was not a negative experience until she insisted we stop talking about it because she didn't like it. I hadn't seen them all week until last night due to our schedules. Next time she starts complaining to me about stuff, what should I say? Should I just say, "I think this is a negative subject and I want to talk about something else,"? I'm worried that that could turn bad on me and that she will think I'm being bitter toward her about what they said. Should I just shut up and listen? I have a small group of close friends and I guess another solution is to simply branch out and find other friends outside of the current circle. I just thought that since it was okay for her to complain to me, that it would be okay for me to complain back on similar, or slightly different subjects (I equate my problems with work to her problems with graduate school; we all work hard and have problems in the end). She doesn't view herself as also being a negative person, but nearly every time I've been around her she is. I don't know if it's because of me or if I'm that way because of her. more

Resolved Question: Gift ideas for my bro and sis-in-law (age 13 and 10)?

We are spending Christmas with my husband's dad's family for the first time (they live far away from the rest of our family, so we usually visit them in the spring/summer rather than winter) and I want to get my brother and sister-in-law something special since we'll be there to see them open it. He is 13, a complete fashion victim, obsessed with clothes and his cell phone and girls and his laptop. (Yes, these two are way spoiled). He's not into sports but he does like music (both to listen to and to play, he plays guitar and a bit of piano, and was learning the sax last summer but I don't know if he's kept that up) unfortunately, he already has an iPod, and tons of video game stuff that he barely ever uses. Mostly, he's a social butterfly. Oh, he's also getting into drama and has a small part in his high school's musical this semester. She is going to be turning 10, she's also into clothes but it's hard to buy clothes for kids you only see once a year (getting their sizes, finding something you know they'll like, etc) and they don't have a lot of chain clothing stores in their town for me to get them gift cards. She loves animals, especially dogs, (they have two) and toddlers (her mom has a daycare, we have a 16 month old) and hockey and basketball, and yelling... That's about all I know. We usually get them books (which they claim to love, but I'm sure it's getting old) or movies, and occasionally I go on this creative fit and get them something really complicated and hard-to-find which drives my husband crazy. HELP!I apologize, I didn't include a price because I wasn't sure if we would get them one thing each, or a couple of smaller gifts. In total we want to spend at least $40 each, up to maybe $100. more

Resolved Question: Is Las Vegas a good place to look for work?

A male coworker that worked with me at Verizon got a job in IT and moved out to Vegas with his friend. A female friend that I have been friends with for a few months, after being out of work since March and looking around Boston for work, just started an IT job in Vegas this week. Is Las Vegas calling me, baby? I do not have a Computer Science degree but I have learned some stuff from my work at Verizon, State Street Bank, temp jobs, and helping run the networks for a family business. Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention and here I am as a guy who can't even program his DVD to record TV shows is trying to incorporate Oracle on a LAN with Proxy Servers and well guess what it's all running fine now thank you very much. What fields seem to be going well in the Las Vegas area. I am thinking IT for the gaming community but also other areas as well. I have several years of college teaching experience. I have a sales background though it is mostly in telemarketing and retail. I have done some training and I would really like a job with advancement potential as my MBA is on the wall collecting dust. Are you working in Las Vegas now? Do you know anyone who is? What areas seem to be in demand in terms of job fields and careers? What is the cost of living in Vegas? My female friend is working as an independent contractor and she is living with a friend for now until she can arrange for living expenses or just see what she takes income and find a place of her own. My male buddy is in a hotel with his GF until she gets a job and then they will get an apartment after that. Isn't this recession a blast? I have lived in Boston most of my life, but the warm weather and the pretty s are luring me west. One particular woman I have in mind that I want to be working closer too. It would also be nice to see Gary again and play some guitar. Let me know if you have the low down on Vegas for work.Great Yurida, the main motivation is that a music buddy moved there and not this gal I was seeing is working out there. So that would help me to find something that is actually a good fit for me. more
