Songs Lessons Learn Play Guitar Pace Questions asked

Resolved Question: Guitar virtuoso... how to do it?

So i am 14, and have owned a guitar since i was 10. I have played it seriously (every day) since this time last year and am playing a lot of lead guitar. I use a metronome every day, and i also ear-train alot by working out my favourite songs for myself. Well where do i go from here? I watch loads of Gilbert, Satriani, Petrucci, Marty Friedman and stuff like that... guitar lessons online. Any more real helpful guitar lessons on youtube (don't say shred academy. None of the teachers have any melody to their shred). Also am i doing the right thing? i sometimes solo over sogs, but only fast-paced blues soloing like if i play over Whitesnake or stuff. and is there a way to learn more theory (i know not every guitar player with a good success knows theory, but Eddie Van Halen, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, Satch and more all know it) without boggling my mind? I love pentatonic soloing and the blues scale and i do think i can make a career as a shredder without knowing every other scale there is. Advice please?an yes i already sit byt he TV and work out the advertising jingles. so no1 suggest that. more

Resolved Question: How can I learn guitar quickly?

I'm 14 years old and I am interested in finally putting my electric guitar to use. The only problem is that I don't want to waste money on lessons if I'm not getting the full benefit. For example, I know someone who has taken guitar lessons for years and has become fairly good, but can only play specific songs that were taught in lessons. I would like to learn how to play in general, so that I could read music and play different types of songs. I am a fast learner, and even though I do understand that it takes time to learn, I don't want to waste time by learning at a slow pace. If you know of any online tutorials or good books, please let me know. I am a beginner so I need to learn everything. Thank you! more

Resolved Question: What should I do now?

I've been playing guitar for 7 months and I take lessons, I usually learn songs in my lessons and learn some techniques along each song but I that I'm moving at a slow pace because of this. Should I also use some guitar instruction books as well to help me progress faster along with taking lessons? more

Resolved Question: I need some Musical Advice?

I am now in year 10, and am nearly 15. By the time I'm allowed to play something, I will be 15, so for now, we'll say thats my real age. Anyway, I am a fairly musical person, i analyise each layer of songs, i have a piano, 3 guitars and i've played alot of instruments but never got past grade one whilst having lessons. I really regret this, and really would like to start again. But what should i learn? i'm leaning towards bass so bass advice would be cool, but any alternatives? And do you think i'm now too old to progress in music? i hate starting from the very begginning, and going slow. I need a fast paced, fun, music tutor preferably outside of school? So what i'm asking is.. Am i too old to start now? Is there any cheap but fun and fast-paced tutors in bedfordshire? Is bass a good, fun thing to learn or should i do something else? THANK YOU :) xah by the time i'm allowed to play. I meant as in, I will have to buy my own lessons and stuff, so i'll have to do some big saving. To buy the instrument, books, lessons. etc etc sorry for the confusion :)You don't need skill to make computer music. I tried piano/guitar. Guitar i didn't really feel. and piano is boring as, and i teach myself that :) Thank you for some of your help thou.. keep answering :) x more

Resolved Question: Whats the best way for an absolute beginner to learn guitar at an easy going pace?

Should I go to lessons from a teacher or buy a certain book and guitar? Any thoughts. I've got about a million songs (altered lyrics from pop music) stuck in my head. I would like to be able to play guitar to my lyrics. Like instead of "Rock Me Amadeus" I'd sing: "Rock me Hot Potatoes" Instead of "If you wanna be my lover" I'd sing: "If you want some peanut butter" Instead of: "Here I am, rocked you like a hurricane" I'd sing: "Here's a yam, rocked it like you knew I can" The video would show me squishing a yam between my fingers. Like I said, I got about a million of these but want to be able to play guitar and make some youtube vids. Please help, this is of utterly extreme importance. People may have less laughs in their lives if I don't learn guitar! more

Resolved Question: Been playing guitar-steel string acoustic 5 years & I am stuck at the playing level of a good beginner. help?

I've been playing guitar for 5 years....I still don't consider myself to be anything beyond a good beginner...I only took 2 lessons. just learned some speed drills, blues scale, stretching exercises, and a couple songs I asked to learn...which is where he introduced bar chords, and he introduced me to strumming patterns, rhythm, counting, etc... 5 years later, I still haven't become proficient at strumming the guitar...even simple patterns are difficult for me...can only strum something when I can hear it in my head w/o music..like I can do a couple "difficult" strumming songs simply because they've been my fav songs pretty much forever. So I can play the speed drill at over 200bpm (faster than my metronome will go)...but I can only play songs quickly if I have it memorized...like I can't seem to read music & play it at a pace that is acceptable...which pretty much means I can't play anything complicated b/c I can't memorize those. Anyone have tips on how to improve these weaknesses?I can change chords quickly enough to play pretty much any song I've attempted...I always thought my strumming would eventually just improve..I've done every rhythm lesson on the web i can find...but they're so basic none of it seems applicable. Frustrating.. I'm trapped in a beginner's guitar playing even though I have the "tools" to be a much better player... I also have trouble with pick accuracy when strumming (like if I'm only supposed to hit certain strings for a strum).. so basically...I can "play" most of the songs I try learn...but I can only make a handful of them actually sound good.. Oh...I usually practice about 30 minutes a day. I'm a college student and don't really have the money to pay for lessons at the moment. more

Resolved Question: How many acoustic guitar lessons did it take before you could learn to play songs on your own?

If you're an experienced guitar player who opted to learn by taking lessons, how many lessons did it take for you to be considered "good"? BTW...I do realize that everyone learns at a different pace. I also realize that you don't need lessons to become a "good" guitar player...So let's stick to my question, thanks :-) more

Resolved Question: my bass player?

ok, i have a bass player in my band and i want him to get better with his bass lines, he is pretty good for just kinda starting (he used to play guitar) but he just slides a finger on like one string and just slides up and down the frets, it sounds ok for just starting out, but i want him to learn more and get better so we can move forward as a band musicly, but when i tell him to look into lessons, he says either he doesnt need them, or, he says he is just going to learn from a friend of his that is good at the bass... but i think he needs to get a real teacher and learn that way, learning notes and stuff so i can get him on the same page as me... and how do i get him to stay with the pace and beat of the song... he tries to put his own little things in and they sometimes sound bad and throw everyone off... i cant get mad at him cuz he is my best friend... how do i get him to where i want him to be more
