Resolved Question: What is a good name for a neighborhood or community of friendly wild animals?

Voting Question: Any tips on how to redecorate my room?

OK, my room is light blue, and covered in Twilight posters, a few photos on the wall, and a calender. On my shelves, I have some of my dad's things, figurines, snow globes, small storage compartments, and then my Wicca shrine. My bookcase, of course, has my books on it, and a few storage compartments, and my science project. My desk has a basket, a picture of my boyfriend, a lava lamp, a pencil sharpener, and a regular lamp. There are also some games and my writing binder. My dresser is packed with stuff. My hair stuff, deodorant, perfume, nail stuff, some pictures, poems, certificates, a lamp, my jewelry, and my collectible Edward and Bella dolls. I have instruments spread across my room, three guitars and a piano.I also have some shoes on the floor, a container with all of my slippers and shoes and such. On my headboard for my bed, I have my library books, movies and CDs, my old glasses, my glasses case, my flip video camera, and my book lights. There's also a magazine and my alarm clock. Sorry for such a detailed description. I need to find something to do with my room. It's very crowded and cramped. My mom thinks if we rearrange a little, then my room will be great. We can't paint or wallpaper until this summer. more

Resolved Question: How do I keep collectibles from moving around in their display case?

I have a relatively small display case that houses a bunch of figurines in them. But whenever I need to relocate the case (or even when the case gets nudged) the figurines move out of place or fall over. Is there a way to keep them in place, without using chemicals that might damage them or reduce their value? (But still allows people to look at them?)The Velcro sounds promising, Scrotus, I'm just wondering about the adhesives that the Velcro has in them and how well they will get along to the plastics and all in the figurines... more

My father bought my mom these collectable Wizard of Oz music box figurines in the 80s. However the place he bought them didn't have the Tinman. They told him they would order it. Resolved Question: can anyone tell me who to sell collectibles to? and for how much?

I have a massive collection of porcelain dolls, musical boxes, snow globes and clown figurines that i am in desperate need of selling. They were collected for many years by an 80+ yr grandmother..my friends family..granted some of these items look very antique and some of course do not. But i have absolutely no idea where to go to sell them nor do i know how much to ask. They are all inside the home in which i will be moving into very shortly. I recieved a phone call this afternoon by the owners and they asked me to come to the house. I didn't know they were wanting to leave all this stuff in this house for me to take care of, so... i need to sell these things and split the profit with the grandaughter...have any suggestions?? more

Resolved Question: Enough gender studies he/she.. What is the sweetest thing your SO has ever done for you?

3 years ago, during a move, a special edition Precious Moments figurine that my dad gave me before he died got lost. I looked everywhere and couldn't find it.So I started looking for a replacement so I would have the memory, still no luck. About 4 months ago my SO was supposed to be going on a fishing weekend with friends, he came back with an exact replica. Turns out he found one listed online at a collectibles store in COLORADO but the wouldn't ship it. And he couldn't get airline tickets that late. He spent the whole weekend driving down to pick it up.I did get lucky :). I figured everyone was mad that I was "ragging" on him and men in general, so I went for a cheery topic. Voting Question: Beswick Beatrix Potter - Tabitha Twitchet & Miss Moppet?

I have a small Beswick Beatrix Potter Tabitha Twitchet & Miss Moppet figure. On the underside of the figurine, it has "F Warne & Co Ltd Copyright 1976". Does this mean that it was made by F Warne & Co in 1976, and does anyone know if it is of collectable value? more

Resolved Question: Collectibles as gifts?

My daughter will be one in January, and since it's close to Christmas, I had the idea of starting the tradition of getting her some collectible item every year for either her birthday or Christmas. Something that will go up in value so later on, she can either sell them for college/moving out or have a lifetime of valuable keepsakes. I used to collect carousel horses and my husband's mother collects Lladro figurines, so I was thinking something like that. I'd prefer some thing smallish (shelf size) so it doesn't take up too much room. But I don't know much about collectibles that increase in value. Any suggestions? more

Resolved Question: Huh? Help me and recieve a cookie? YAY COOKIE!?

Help, what do i do? See, I was playing with my Star Wars collectible dolls and Luke was just about to find out the origin of the Jedi race and the force from the master See-yOu-Look but then the dreaded Gothranus came, luke tried using his proton blaster but the Gothranus force block stopped the blaster. Then Leia came to save the day, and as i was looking at her hot figurine i thought a dirty thought and started having a nose bleed. Zomg, Omg wtf do i do. I never learned my l337 skillz. Now Jar Jar Binks and Jabba dah hutt is like on my butt because i sold him some coke but it was just sugar, and then the smurfs were like what and Will smith was coming and a going. So as you can see the diagnosis is weird as my mother and father were brother and sister and my mothers father was brother to my fathers sister? HuH? And then my uncle is married to my son and his grandchild to my gret great grandmother. So Buckets are from Mars and tubes are from venus? Oh and about the cookie, i kinda ate them all. more

Resolved Question: Don't you hate the "collectable" toys?

I do, with a passion. They all do that (ba*****s!). Whether it is Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob the Builder, Star Wars or Transformers, they all have a "collectable" set of figurines! To make it worse, they have them in about 3 different sizes so when the kid has finished collecting the "2 inch" set, he can then goggle the "6 inch" set. The ethics of toys designers have to be down there, with the politicians, car dealers, etc... Don't you think? Sure I say No and I don't have major tantrums problems but isn't it ridiculous? So many times I have to explain "Sweetie, you already have this one, except it's smaller!" more

Resolved Question: Any constructive comments on my little prose piece?

Elsie held the porcelain figure in her hand and regarded it thoughtfully. She had always hated it - ever since George had first brought it home to her that day and laid it before her, proudly - almost like a cat presenting a mouse to its horrified owner. "It's horrible", she had said, contemptuously, when he had first shown it to her. "Whatever made you think I'd like that?", she had spat, making not even the slightest attempt to season her words with a hint of gratitude for the thought behind the gift. Elsie was the kind of woman who called a spade a spade and seemed proud of the fact. "It's rubbish. I won't have it in the house. Get rid of it", she had ordered, turning her attention back to her dishes. George looked hurt...crestfallen...devastated - like a little boy who had just received a sharp slap across the back of his hand as he helped himself to a biscuit intended only for visitors. "I...I thought you would like it", he had stammered, trying to hide his hurt. "Look - it's a little bear - with a hat - and a collar and tie. I thought it was cute. I'm told it's a collectable", he had finished lamely. "I'm not having it in the house", she had stated. "I don't want the ladies from my guild thinking I've lost my marbles, cluttering up my living room with cartoon ornaments. It's junk. Give it to a jumble sale - but get rid of it!", she had said. And that was that. Or at least it would have been if George hadn't been made of sterner stuff than his wife gave him credit for. He just couldn't throw out 'little Yogi', as he referred to the unwanted gift. In fact, George's affection for the figurine seemed to increase in direct proportion to his wife's hatred of it. He would tuck it away, half-hidden, behind a picture-frame or a vase until, inevitably, she would discover it and then the game of 'hide-and-seek' would begin again. Many a time she wondered why she simply did not throw it in the bin, but there was something about the face of the figure which rendered her incapable of such action; a bit like a kitten staring into your face, lovingly, as you tried to pull the trigger of the gun whose muzzle it so affectionately rubbed itself against. It was simply impossible, but she hated it - hated it with a passion. "Damn the man", she used to say. And so it went. Until the day she had received a 'phone call from George's office. Was she sitting down? They were terribly sorry. It was so sudden. He wouldn't have felt a thing. If ever there was anything they could do to help, they had said. She had placed the 'phone back on the receiver, slunk down on the chair next to it - and cried - and cried - and cried. She cried for two hours, then made herself a cup of tea, then watched Coronation Street and went to bed. She never cried again. A few months later, the sum total of George's life lay collected in an assortment of boxes and carrier bags gathered in the hall. On the top box, lying on one of George's lambswool sweaters, was the object of Elsie's loathing - that damn porcelain bear, grinning inanely at the ceiling as if it expected the ceiling to grin back. "Hark at me", she thought. "It's almost as if I thought the blasted thing was alive". She laughed at her foolishness and consoled herself with the knowledge that, from tomorrow, it would be someone else's eyesore. Sam from next door had offered to drive George's things down to the charity shop in the town. Then it would be time to forget the past and move on to the next chapter in her life. Life had begun to feel good again - a new optimism had recently begun to permeate her soul and she looked forward to the future with enthusiasm. Her years with George seemed almost like a dream. "This all there is?", Sam had asked when she opened the door to him the next day. He took out the carrier bags first then came back for the boxes. The top box was the smallest so he put that to one side and carried out the bigger, heavier ones, puffing and grunting as he did so. "Last one", he said, as he bent to pick up the box containing that damn porcelain bear. Elsie's eye fell upon it as he did so, and a strange feeling that she did not quite understand suddenly started to well-up in her innermost being. A feeling of...grief, loss, pain, remorse, pity - a kaleidoscope of emotions that threatened to overwhelm and engulf her. "Wait a minute", she heard herself saying as she plucked the figure from its place atop the sweater. "That's it, Sam. Thanks very much for all your help", she said, quietly and with a bewildered tone. Elsie held the porcelain figure in her hand and regarded it thoughtfully. She had always hated it - ever since George had first brought it home to her that day and laid it before her, proudly - like a cat presenting a mouse to its horrified owner. Now, however, she suddenly found that she held a strange affection for it. Like a mother -to-be who has been told that her child will be horribly handicapped, but, surprisingly, finds herselffinds herself loving it anyway. Not grudgingly, not reluctantly - but totally and unreservedly loving it despite its flaws and handicaps, when reason would suggest that she be appalled, horrified - disgusted, even. Sometimes we are surprised to discover that we are not as hard, or as rough, or as unfeeling as we imagine ourselves to be. And so it was with Elsie. She looked at 'little Yogi' and thought of George...and remembered how much she had loved him...and realized just how much she missed him. She tenderly caressed the little figure, kissed the top of its head and, walking over to her very best display cabinet, placed it in prize position on the top shelf where visitors would be sure to see it. Then she smiled to herself and went and made herself a cup of tea, and sat and thought of all her wonderful years with George. "Bless the man", she said. And - somewhere - George was smiling to himself too.(Sorry, I was cut off. Hope it doesn't disrupt the flow too much.)Please note that NO t/ds are from me.Nice one, hydro. Now you're getting into the spirit of the game. Humour is fun, see?Prot, thank you for your glowing comments, but I do need to tidy it up. The main idea has been at the back of my head for a while, but I pressed the "ask" button and then wrote it as I went along. I'll revise it at some stage. Andy, why the surprise? Did you think I couldn't write or something? But thanks for the comments. (Won't you even give it a little kick?)Ah, but Buk...the journey is half the fun. This is really a short story in disguise. I actually think it needs expanding in places. Now, tell me (criticisms aside)...did it move you? (And I don't mean to the toilet.)There are bits that need trimmed, of course, but it WAS written on the hoof. Maybe I'll repost an edited, revised version. And when I do, Cilla, I'll generously explain the basics to you. Then your 'shopping lists' will be sure to show a vast improvement.Incidentally, the use of the word 'had' in places is to denote that these pieces of dialogue are, in effect, flashback sequences.Miss Buns, I can see why you're still single. Difficulty keeping a man, perhaps? No 4, come in...your time is up. Nice of you to describe your own comments in the first sentence. more

Resolved Question: Should I sell my Final Fantasy Master Creatures TIAMAT figurine on eBay?

I recently ran into what I think is a really rare Final Fantasy collectable - a Final Fantasy Master Creatures TIAMAT figurine. Usually, the only available version is BAHAMUT, a purple dragon with red wings. I found and bought TIAMAT, a limited edition variation with blue skin and black wings. I really like the figure, but would be willing to part with it for the right price. I checked eBay and looked for any listings/completed listings for the exact figurine, but there was nothing - no listings, which often means it's something unique and rare. I was wondering if I should keep it for my own enjoyment (cuz it's awesome) or if I should try selling it. If I were to sell it, I'd probably want around $40-$50 for it. Is my appraisal incorrect of this item? more

Hi, all! I know this will sound like a foolish question, but I haven't flown in several years. I flew to Ohio and am flying back to Mass today and my family has given me several gifts that I'm going to be taken back. They consist of a few fantasy scenes/figures sculpted from pewter, a hand-made clay cup, a few collectable figurines and a metal dragon-shaped tealight holder. My question is this: if these are put in my check-in luggage, NOT my carry-on luggage, will those items be an issue? If it makes a difference, my carrier is US Airways. Thanks in advance! more
