I have c800, and windows XP was very slow. So, I put an linux ubuntu disk into the computer, and when it finished loading, the screen was messed up because it showed half of the screen, and the other half was the same as the right. Open Question: Why are my audio devices suddenly not recognised?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, its a GREAT computer, I have Windows 7 32-bit on it, and it all works great, except today...When I click on the little speaker thing in Windows to adjust the volume, the volume slider doesnt come up! Instead I get: Playing audio - Detecting problems. and then it finds nothing, If I go into Control Panel under sound, it says no hardware detected under both playback and recording (my microphones dont even work, now) and I downloaded the driver again from the Dell website, attempted to install, but it said, could not find device and setup has failed. What happened? This is very odd. If nobody has an answer I will have to call Dell. Still have 2 years of warranty and accidental damage coverage! :D Thank you! more

Open Question: Anybody know much about password hacking Dell Inspiron 1545?

I some how forgot my password to my administrator account. I thought that the computer was like my toshiba so I booted it from the Reinstalling OS cd and reinstalled it. I was under the impression that once I did that that it would restore it to Factory state. Now I have two OS on the system. One of the OS still runs with the old password and the new runs with the new password I set. With the one that I created, it does not have the same applications as when I bought it. So I was wondering, do anyone now how I could 1.get a list of basic list of application that normal come with the computer,2.get the driver or webcam application that came with the computer, or 3. restore the computer to box state without the password? I know that I can delete one of the OS, but I just have not tried it to see if it would let me delete it without a password. I am starting to think that I need to just mail it to Dell before the warranty expires. more

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP! I WILL RATE 5 STARS!!!!! I'm running windows vista on a dell inspiron, core 2 duo. I was reinstalling device drivers for my printer (hhp 1600) which didn't work so I gave up. Now my computer doesn't recognize my miscrosoft wireless mouse, and even when there are zero usb devices plugged into my computer, it keeps making the sound as if i was plugging something in and pulling it out. Then I get a USB Device Error, which says the device is not recognized (again, no device is plugged in). Are there any quick fixes to this? THANK YOU! more

I'm installing borderlands on my pc and i had problems with textures and the game was virtually unplayable. I looked it up, and the error is exactly the same as others who have my nvidia geforce 6150 le card, pictures and all. I updated my drivers to no avail, and most people say they just bought a new card. My problem is that i have no idea where to look for a new graphics card. I prefer a card with 512mb, and in an affordable price range, where do I look? Open Question: PC Laptop problems please help!?

Ive got a dell inspiron 1501 that is now just over 4 years old. In those last few years, i have used it at least an hour a day just about every day. A week ago this message just kept popping up saying something like the memory referenced at "_____" (im not sure what it said) could not be written. If i clicked it away it would just come right back. So i installed kaspersky security on my computer and now the message is gone but every time i close my computer to let it go into stand by or when the screen saver comes up, I cant run anything after i wake it back up. I move the mouse, it wakes up, i can log back on to my user, then it pretty much freezes completely. I can move the mouse but when i click on anything (including the start menu) nothing opens. The little light that says when its "thinking" flickers for a second then goes away, like it was doing something then just gave up. Anyone know what this is? Or what that message was before i installed kaspersky? Is the computer just getting old and somewhat on the back nine? My dad is a software engineer but he's not around to help for like a week and i need my computer. He said that I might just need to reinstall the OP and the device drivers. Would this work? more

Open Question: How do I restore my Dell desktop to factory settings?

I have tried contacting Dell customer support but haven't had much luck. I am selling my desktop and am trying to get it back to the factory condition it came like when I purchased it new a couple years ago. I works on the Vista Home system. I have tried pressing F8 several times now when the computer is loading up, but it still continues to load normally. I'm not sure why this is. If I press F2 or F12 on the boot screen that works, but not F8. The discs that came with it are to restore Windows Vista and to restore the computer drivers, etc. There aren't "recovery discs" like I had with previous computers I have had. Any help anyone can give would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! more

Open Question: Utility that controls brightness from windows?

I'm looking for a utility that is free that I can download that adjusts brightnesscontrast from within windows? I have an old Dell E770 Monitor and I know that it's old the brightness is all the way up and things still seem dark. But when I play dvd's they are so dark that I can hardly see them. It's not on my main computer it's on my other computer. I just use it as a dvd player when I run on my tredmil. I used to have a driver from the manufacturer of my RAGE 128 Pro AGP 4X TMDS video card that allowed me to do that. But since reformatting the HD I lost it. Went back to ATI's website found the driver but now it tells me it's not compatible with the adapter. Go Figure since I installed it before okay. Weird. But I downloaded the driver specifically for this video card so not sure why it's telling me that. Anyways if there is a utility that will allow you to adjust the brightness and contrast within windows, then I can adjust it that way until the old dinosar monitor finally dies. Thanks! more

but im on disability and my income is $12,000 a YEAR! i had awsome credit, 3 credit cards, bills paid in full on time....wasn't spending much just its super hard to handle money to well with one hand (had a stroke and it impaired my dominate hand). anyways, an x-wife of one of my friends stole my drivers license, SS card, and my credit cards. (ive got no contact with my friend anymore) i called the credit cards in missing. then a month later i get a $3,500 dell computer bill..i thought it was a loan so i called them up telling i dont need a loan they said it's a bill from a computer "I" bought...i went and filled a police report...then sprint cell calls me and says that i owe them $1,200! i finally called and grabbed my credit report and all were AT LEAST 12pages long! i found out she opened up 3 electric accounts out in ohio, her name, and an address in ohio where she or someone she sold my id's to to open up electric accounts...went to file another police report...nothing happened...got my credit report a year later 8/09 and this time it came out to 17pages..cops arnt doing anything...id love to get my credit back but im on disability and after all of MY OWN bills are paid ive got nothing...cant open a bank account cause she's opened a lot of them and they went negative. what do i do? more

Open Question: Windows 7, HDMI cable, and my television?

So I have a Dell Studio XPS 13 and I bought it with Windows Vista (64 bit). I used to watch videos on my HDTV using an HDMI cable and it worked perfectly. But after I upgraded to Windows 7 (clean install, which wiped everything) there seems to be a problem. When I connect to my television, the picture comes up fine but the sound keeps on coming from my laptop. I tried to go to Control Panel -> audio devices, and it said that my HDMI output was unplugged. Is there a driver that I need to install for it to work? more

Open Question: Why won't my drivers install after reinstalling windows?

I have a Dell inspiring e1705 that's about 4 years old and it was getting full of garbage and slowing down so I reinstalled windows to clean it up. BUT, when I went to go and reinstall all my drivers, nothin worked except the audio drivers! I use the CDs that the system came with and after impaling I get messages like "this software does not apply to your system." or nothing at all. I went to the Dell website and plugged in my serial number and tried all the XP downloads, sane problem. I went to my system specs and looked up the the part number for my video card, discovering that it was a radeon mobile x1700, and I got a similar error downloading right from tr ATI website! Has anyone ever had a similar problem? more

Open Question: I have bought a new graphics card and its disabled my sound?

I bought a brand new ati radeon HD 4550 graphics card, and it works fine, but it has disabled my intergrated onboard sound, so when i take off the card the sound works on my pc but with it it deosnt. I have checked on the BIOS but there ar only two options Auto and Disable there is no Enable!, also for the graphics card the pc automaticcaly downloaded the driver for the audio for it but still no sound comes even from the graphics card, and my pc also has the original realtek driver for the intergrated audio. Open Question: Computer problems - HELP?

My computer is a built computer that somone built in school so its not a name brand like HP, Dell or Apple. It was build in 2002 w/ windows xp professional installed in it. Everything worked great up until last month when a friend crashed system & instead of trying to reconfigure from last settings that worked he installed the OSystem again which erased everything. Unbeknownst to him he installed it in a different folder other than windows & I had 2 different OS installed on it. I know this because everytime I would start computer it would always ask what OS I wanted to work on. After talking to my Internet provider (Buckeye) they instructed me I delete the parition & reformat it. During installation there were 3 files that were not copied correctly (query.dll, msvidctl.dll, ciadim.dll). Didn't think much of it at this point. But now after all the problems I've been having I think maybe this maybe the cause of it. Who knows? After a few days computer worked fine then later the computer gave me message "windows/system32/config/system is missing or corrupted". After trying to go back to previous settings it wouldn't work. So I had to reinstall windows again. It worked fine once again, but now it seems to be restarting automatically all the time. I checked online to see if I can prevent (missing/corrupt & restarts) from happening again & it was saying that if this happens it may be from a bad boot sector. So, I used microsofts chkdsk program, it scanned computer (restarted) everything was verified & completed. My question is why does my computer always restart so frequently? How do I get my sound drivers & MP3 usb connection to work or get reinstalled? Will "...corrupt/missing" happen again? Do I have to install SP3 when I already have SP2?Anothing point to point out. When I start computer & start browsing internet my computer will restart automatically after 5 mins. of being on it. Once I log back in & start browsing again it won't restart. Why does computer restart after 5 mins of use? more

Open Question: DELL INSPRION 1501 WILL NOT BOOT?

I have a customer's Dell Inspiron 1501, that I had previously reformatted and reinstalled XP on. (some guy had installed vista on it and it was lagging so I reformatted) All was well, I simply had to download teh new BIOS, Base System Device, and Sound Drivers and install them. So I did, and it prompted me to shut down then turn back on so the changes could take complete effect. So I did, and well let's just say this: I push the power button. The light comes on. But the processor does not boot or anything. Literally, the boot file has been sabotaged. (or so I am assuming) WHAT DO I DO? more

Resolved Question: No Audio Output Device Is Installed?

Doesn't make any sense to me ... The speakers have been working fine for years. And they just stopped working. I'm guessing it was my doing, I was removing some programs that I wasn't going to use anymore. I tried to remove this one thing that was an AVI to SMV converter - and I removed another program that had an almost identical logo to it. Next thing you know it said "service" to my audio device has stopped working. Something about code 10. The company that developed both of those products was Sigma Tel. I'm running on Dell with Windows Vista. I tried downloading new drivers, this and that. I'm running out of options here, and I usually don't look to Yahoo Answers. --- Please, don't give me some answer like, "try this site <<insert hyperlink>> lol!!!!1111"-- No go. Already says I am updated. Yet, I still getting the evil ex'd out speaker. more

Hi, my new phone doesn't a cable to connect it to my computer so I thought I'd finally make use of the bluetooth software on my laptop, but it wont work! After a marathon session by a computer wiz at my house last Wednesday, I've not been able to use several functions on my Dell All-In-One Printer 962. The power comes on and I can copy, but I'm not able to print any documents from my computer. Here's the message that pops up: Dell Photo AIO Printer 962 Device Monitor Error Signature AppName dlbxmon.exe AppVer: 1.206.0.0 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0012fb8c In addition, a window continues to pop up that states: Dell Photo AIO Printer 962-USB Port Communication Not Available The printer cannot communicate with the computer. Try these solutions: -Disconnect and reconnect the printer's power cable. -Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. -Restart your computer. I've tried each of these solutions to no avail. I checked the Windows Update section and viewed recent history where it indicated that all updates were successfully installed except the one for the printer. The entry states, Dell Inkjet Drivers-Printers-Dell Photo AIO Printer 962 and then shows possible solutions to include FAQ's, Find Solutions, and Windows Update Newsgroup (all 908 pages!), but I don't seem to be getting anywhere. When I e-mailed the computer guy about this, he wrote back to get on Dell's website and download drivers from them, which I did, but after going through the downloading and installing processes twice, the very same windows pop up again. Okay, I'm trying to set up my Dell Wireless Adaptor and I have no clue what my SSID name is. I need to hook my wireless network in but my computer isn't uploading my Drivers and Utilities- Dell Wireless Adaptor- disk because it's this bug in my system that blocked me from uploading software through disks and CD's. So I'm stuck.......but I think the disk has already been preloaded in my PC. So what do I do for the SSID name???? Thanks you guys for reading and helping me out! ♥Much appreciation♥ ^_^ more

Resolved Question: Can you help me get my LAN to work?

OK - I messed up. I reinstalled Windows XP (with Service Pack 3), and I didn't copy my drivers before I did this. How do I know which driver is for my LAN connection? I tried to figure out what my modem is, but the only thing I could find out is that I have a BCM V. 92 56K modem. But I'm pretty sure this is only for the dial-up modem. How can I figure out what driver I need for my LAN? If I go to my Device Manager, it shows there is an Ethernet Controller, but the diver is missing. It is a Dell computer. more

The seller said that its free dos system and can be run on any os. But I found on internet and on DELL site that its compatible Win 7 and Win Vista only.I want to use only XP (SP2 or 3).But I changed my preference because it doesn't work on XP and installed Win 7 ultimate. The drivers r installed with installation of OS. Its found by looking at device manager on hardware tab in system properties.But the screen resolution is not clear and videos r not clear. so i installed the drivers from web. no change.... is it wrong with win 7 or how can I found graphics clear. more

Resolved Question: RailWorks Sound and Controls?

When I run railworks, the sound is often missing, and none of the keyboard controls do anything, the train just sits there doing nothing in mute. I have reinstalled, and it works at first, then goes wrong again after a few launches. I just relaunched it, and everything worked except the sound. Sometimes when I exit the application I get a "The memory could not be "written"" error.
