I took my car to get a diagnostic the guy told me it was my MAF so today we tried cleaning it with MAF cleaner and also replaced the filter now the car sounds like the engine is running rough and it almost sounds like it has a harley davidson motor! I come from a poor family. We never really had alot growing up. Don't get me wrong, we had what we NEEDED. I'd say we were "simple" At Christmas time for example, we would get 2, maybe 3 gifts each (I have 4 sisters) The most lavish, "big" gift usually some sort of clothing item, like a sweater, or new pair of jeans. One year I got a sweater, a curling iron and crayons (I was 12 years old that year) and I WAS greatful. It was difficult in school though when all the other kids told what they got for Christmas.....I was embarassed to tell them that was all I got, so I would make something up. ANYWAYS, my husband comes from a very different family. His parents have money. Every year for his birthday, or Christmas they literally spend THOUSANDS of dollars on him. For instance, last year for xmas, he got an autographed, framed Walter Payton Jersey and a plasma tv for his work office (we don't even have one in our home, but his mother insisted he put the one he got in his office at work) For me? I got 2, Dollar General candles. I'm not kidding. My mil said it was because I wanted my kids to get the wii, so she helped us buy it and that was part of my gift...though we had to put "From Santa" on the tag because it was for the kids. This year for xmas my husband is getting a new Harley Davidson from his parents and I'm kind of upset about that! My car is falling apart....2 of the windows don't work, the heat only works on high, when it works at all and I am always having to fill my front tire because it apparently is leaking. I do realize that it is not my in laws responsibility to be fixing my car, but besides that, there is lots of other things in our home that would be very useful/needed besides a motorcycle! Now, I love my husband more than anything, he pays the bills and I truely feel loved by him. He's the best father to our 3 boys. We have been married for 20 years. But it just bothers me that every year I work so hard to make xmas special for everyone else and I get crap! So, am I just acting spoiled? Am I just being a brat? I know I'm not my in laws child (my husband is an only child) and they aren't obligated to spend the same amount of $ on me.....I just work my butt off the spend every penny I have to make sure my kids have a great xmas. And believe me, the mil tries to out do us, or offers to help pay for things, but insists that we can't put "From Mom and Dad" if she helps, it HAS to be "From Santa" I keep telling myself that this is not what Christmas is about. And I'm trying to stay focused on what really matters, that we have 3 healthy children, a nice home, jobs....etc.... As a side note, my husband does buy me something for xmas, usually he spends about $100 or so as that is all we can afford after we spend on the kids. more

The speedometer doesn't work on my 96' 1200 Sportster but the electronic odometer read out and the back light still work fine. First thing I did was take out the Mag Pick-Up from the case and clean it of the metal shavings that were on it. Ran it and still no dice. I need to get the voltage and resistance numbers so I can troubleshoot with a multimeter. I don't want to just start throwing parts at it until it works so any help would be greatly appreciated. Resolved Question: How costly is it to turn a stock HD Sportster into a Bobber?

No engine mods, just the reset of the tank, straight pipes, a chopped rear fender, springer seat, forward controls, front forks and whatever mods to the fame need to be done. From a labor and parts stand point, how much could I expect to pay? I can do some of the mods myself. Ok, I wrote an introduction to this quesiton that was longer than some books, so I just started over because otherwise I'd never get any answers 'cause the intro was longer than the freaking question itself. I'll try to keep it "to the point", but I have always had trouble with that. I ramble. I'm a rambler and I rant. I'm a ranter, putting in millions of details that have nothing to due with the topic. OK - my dad buys his second motorcycle as he is wanting to get into riding. I have been riding every year weather permitting for 13 year and I know my way around a bike pretty good. I have never owned a harley davidson, only Yamaha's and kawasaki's. The first bike my dad bought was a Kawasaki. He's been taking riding lessons from me for free, and he also signed up for a course at our local community college that is taught by guys who've been riding for centuries, and they'll teach him things that even I don't know. So one day we are driving and there's a sparkling clean sportster (1200 XLH) sitting on the side of the road ("for sale sign clearly visible"). I call the number and offer the guy $3000 as it's a 1990 and has 15,000 miles on it, although the bike is FLAWLESS and loaded with aftermarket shiny things, although all moving parts are stock. He accepts. I tell him that it's actually my dad who is interested and I'll have him call back later. He does, and sets up a test ride (to be performed by me) the next day. We go, I ride (I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wear a helmet), but I didn't on this test ride because I had to be able to hear EVERYTHING IN THE ENGINE, ETC. So I ride for about 10 minutes and the bike is in such incredible condition I just can't believe it. I report back and dad agrees to buy it on the spot. The next day he pays the guy and get's the temp tag and insures it. Tonight I went down and picked it up. While we were in the guys large and spotless garage, fully equipped with about 10 motorcycles, 3 cars, and 4 toolbenches, I didn't see the expected accompanyment of tool kits. So I figure he outsources his maintainence. Ok. I turn the fuel switch to "on" from "off", and all of a sudden the bike is literally purging the entire tank of gas out of what appears to be a 1/4 inch rubber hose that someone had threaded between those iconic thin metal bars that run vertically from the crankcase up each side of the cylinders. The hose STARTS at the bottom of the air filter, although I don't thing it has anything to do with it and runs up direcly to the "OFF/ON/RESERVE" switch. So I quickly switch it off, and it stops leaking. The seller is horrified because he's already been paid and we haven't even taken possession yet, 2. The bike didn't do this when I rode it the day before, and 3. his dog bit my dad in the ass when he went over to pay him (and my dad is a lawyer, "bad combination of events"). So we spend 40 minutes trying to figure out first of all what the hell that hose is anyway.... Why is it now leaking fuel copiously, and was it originally connected to something else? did it become disconnected? Next I decide "ok, let's take it just outside of the garage, fire it up with the switch on "off", then turn it "on", which we did, and it still pissed fuel all over the ground. By this time I'd removed it from it's previous position up against the base of the outside of the lower part of the block (too hot for rubber hose, obviously), and I'd zip-tied it so it wouldn't touch the exhaust either. Ok, WTF!!!!???? So, in a last ditch attempt to just GET IT HOME, I decided to clamp it off. Between the 2 of us we decided to use a paper clamp (not clip, CLAMP), those black things with the little silver handles to open and close them that can be used to pinch other people for fun at the office. We also screwed a screw of slightly larger diameter than the inside of the hose into the end of it, and...... drumroll... IT STILL LEAKED, SOMEHOW, but to a lesser degree. He followed me home and the performance of the bike was severely compromised. I had to keep it revved at stop signs and it felt like it was missing on one of the cylinders occasionally. SO: WHAT IS THIS HOSE, WHAT IS IT'S PURPOSE, AND WHAT'S IT SUPPOSED TO DO? IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE HOOKED TO SOMETHING? IF SO, WHAT? PLEASE. I WILL RECANT ALL MY YEARS OF RIDING JAP BIKES IF SOMEONE WILL PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. Otherwise, I'm going to have to pay someone to do it and they might die of laughter from how stupid I am that I couldn't figure it out on my own. This bike is beautiful and I'm really hoping that it doesn't reinforce the rumor that Harley's are hanger queens (which is the only reason I hadn't bought one myself prior to this bike). I know that there is someone out there who can answer this in the blink of an eye. Also the oil/filter and plugs haven't been changed in friggin' trillions of years so I'm going to do that as soon as I can get the right plugs for it. I bought a case of 4 cycle bike oil about 3 years ago and I still haven'tused it all, so this oil change should finish it off. That maintainence I can do myself, but if I end up having to take the bike to my mechanic to have this hose thing figured out, I'll just have them change the plugs/oil/filter. Well, that about does it. If I remember anything else I'll post an update. Thank you all in advance for your help. In 1977, Harley-Davidson produced what politically incorrect model that had become one of its most controversial? More clues: They wore metallic gray paint (DuPont Imron 44437 Ice Blue Metallic), decals (H-D part no. 61651-77 and 61650-77) on the tank, while the front fender sported decal (H-D part no. 59100-77). They were built across the model range in irregular numbers including 44 FLH Electra Glides, 228 Super Glides (all FXEs with the 3.5-gallon “bread loaf” tank borrowed from H-D’s Italian Aermacchi cousins), 299 XLH Sportsters, 45 XLCH Sportsters and 15 XLT Sportsters. They were produced in one batch only, and forgotten almost immediately. In 12 years of researching the model, Steve Edmondson (Edmonson.com) has been unable to locate a single review or magazine ad. While it’s been suggested Harley-Davidson pulled it for political reasons, poor sales were probably the true motivation. With just 631 produced, it was clearly a limited production, yet how is it that only 23 models are accounted for today? It’s very likely that dealerships changed the sheet metal to more broadly acceptable motifs to better move product, and/or that owners changed the paint in light of a changing political climate. It’s also possible that Harley-Davidson itself bought up surviving examples to get them off the market. The real reason this model is so unknown — never appearing in a single official Harley history, and Harley-Davidson refused to even acknowledge its existence until just recently. As it is, they’re simply a casualty of war, a forgotten foot soldier in Harley’s mid-1970s bid to re-engage the market it almost lost, and a model The Motor Company would apparently just as soon forget. How can I impress the local HD riders to bring their bikes to me for repair? I was thinking about hanging out at biker bars and giving out my business cards and paying for their drinks? My current labor rate is $65 per hour and I specialize in troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems, but I do admit I am not a good engine tear down man, I can tear down an engine to replace a clutch and spit engine cases to replace the shaft seals, but head, piston and valve work isn't my forte. I plan on making a 20% mark-up on the parts I sell and I found a supplier where I can get aftermarket HD parts dirt cheap I offer a 30 day guarantee on the labor, but no warranty on parts, if the part I install fails in 30 days or less, I will replace that part with free labor, but the customer has to pay for that same part again. Is that fair? and if I don't know how to fix a HD I can ask my friends here on Yahoo Answers, "Choppy", and "V-Twin" and they can help me out?The last 3 days I haven't been feeling that good, I haven't eaten anything, I hope I don't have the swine fluRed? yea, I don't know a lot about HD's cause I don't have much hands on experience with them, but how can i learn without having some HD's to work on? I just bought a Harley Davidson Sportster and i love it but I cant seem to find too many places online that sell accessories for it. I am looking for some good websites that sell aftermarket parts and accessories. But what i am really looking for is side mirrors that stick out farther than the stock ones to see around me better. Voting Question: LoJack & extended warrenty on a Harley Davidson Nighter XL worth it?

So we bought our first Harley!! But were stuck as far as the lo jack goes. We live in a condo and have no covered parking so were thinking lo jack might give us a piece of mind. The dealer is offering it for $900. The extended warrenty is for 7 years and includes parts and labor, rental cars, room and board if were 100 miles from home. They want $1,600. Like I said we bought the nightster XL 1200. We paid around $11,000. Do you think the lo jack and warrenty are worth it. Oh, and we did the GAP insurance for sure ( paid $500). I have a 2009 Dyna super glide custom. I'm looking to buy the Vance and Hines Big Radius 2 into 2 pipes. Now since the bike is fuel i injected will the bike need to be tuned? Also, do I need to but a fuel pack or can they remap the fuel system with the existing fuel injector. Also, if i do need to buy a fuel pack other than the pipes and the fuel pack will i need any other parts or will that do the job? My harley Davidson i cant trust them. hey, i was wondering about the maintanence for some bikes im interested in, first, the more conventional harley davidson. i know that the older ones, like the panheads require greasing, and checking the chain and fluids often. but i'm more worried about mileage. an older bike needs the top end rebuilt around every 12k miles. what about newer harleys? particularily a naked softail 1200cc . when do these new bikes need rebuilding or other maintanence. annd the other part of the Q is about sportsbikes, i'm looking at the 07-09 zx10r. i've never really seen high mileage sportsbikes, so if it's not totalled or crashed or anything, about how many miles would it be before it would need to be rebuilt, or whatever you do with sportsbikes when they get high miles, what is high miles for a sportsbike, i dont ussually see many with more than 20k miles, and to me it hardly seems practical to spend that money to get 20k, out of a bike more

i got this bike. it was my dads. he recently passed away and dont know much about this bike. i have 2 other brothers and we were looking through his stuff at my moms rental house and came across a crate with all the parts to a 1 cylinder harley davidson. with alittle more digging around we found the frame. for as long as my brothers and i have been alive, we never knew this bike excited. i have been searching the internet with no such luck to identify it. some sites say that the 1st 2 numbers are the model year and some say different. so im here, again. the 1st 2 numbers are *67. when looking online, the ones that look like this bike are the 1st harleys ever made, beside the long square gas tanks. this tank is more circled. it could be a different tank. the frame is stamped as well as the motor. same numbers. the frame is covered in rust with a few areas where you can see that it used to be red. all the motor parts look brand new. i hope som1 out there can help me with this issue. i hope i gave enough info for som1 to help idenify. if not, ask and i will add more info...thanks more

Inspired by another question which got best answer chosen before I could answer, hum hum, you know who you are. (joking) Does anyone see a connection between marketing and the way people view adoption? I had stated in my answer to that question that marketing is a powerful tool and the industry has hired some of the heaviest hitters to do their talking. I pointed out that Harley Davidson uses almost the same technique. People camp out for days to sign up for new model bikes. The hipe surrounding this is intense. There are long waiting lists to get new model Harley Davidsons and people are willing to pay top dollar for the priveledge of getting one of them. I also pointed out that one person posted about the subtle coercion techniques used while she was going through an agency. She admitted that they started off talking about how selfless and wonderful surrendering mothers were, but by the time they were done, we were all crack whores who didn't deserve a dog let alone a kid. (adlibbing there a bit) but you get my point. Marketing is a powerful tool used every day to get you to buy the latest Swiffer product, or Tides new scent, why would you not believe that adoption agencies would do the same thing? They are paying big money to have their message heard, they want the biggest return on their buck as possible. Just because I'm a surrendering mother doesn't mean I don't understand a perspective adoptive mothers situation, I think it is the one area we have something in common. Empty arms are empty arms, and I understand that. I wanted nothing more than to be a parent. So does anyone else see the connection? In 35 years, adoption went from costing a few hundred dollars with NO medical bills paid "gifts" to tens of thousands of dollars and "ALL" medical bills paid. Do you really think their main concern is finding homes for children or just keeping themselves in business by using tools like pre birth matching? What a way to track future income, it's brilliant, but what does it really say about what they think of us, the people who use their service? more
