Resolved Question: How do you hot wire a stereo on a hot rod?

Of the dozen or so guys I hang out with, none of them have stereos in their rods because none of them know how to hook them up and are too proud to ask. I got a bunch of 8 track players ready to go in but I need to know where to hook it up to. All I need is a hot and a ground, I can run the speakers no problem. I was told that if you try to run a line direct from the battery or somewhere in the circuit that you'll short something out and start a fire. I was told you need to go off the fusebox. Is this true? If so, can someone tell me how to get a safe hot and ground wire to hook into the 8-track player? Thanks more

Resolved Question: Is a 6 gauge neutral wire enough for my 220v 100 amp circuit?

Hello, I think the question portion summed it up pretty well. I am wiring a sub panel breaker into my garage for my TIG welder, I am running from a 100 amp breaker on the main box to a 70 amp breaker in the sub box. The wire I am using are 2 gauge for the hots and a 6 gauge for the neautral/ground. I also have a ground rod I am planning on putting outside the garage and running from the rod to the sub with the 6 gauge as well. I just want to be sure 6 gauge is enough. I spoke to a few guys at home depot about it, they said it should be enough but a few second opinions can't hurt. Many thanks. more

Voting Question: why is the neutral bus grounded (bonded to the ground at the panel)?

could i please have more detail then "because they are at the same potential" i'm wondering why this is done. is it so that a short to the metal case of something (which is grounded) will blow the breaker even if the ground rod/water pipe connection is weak? if so aren't we just shorting to neutral and might as well just use neutral instead of ground, or is the theory that ground rods provide a path when service neutral is out and hot is not, and a hot wire comes into contact with something that should be grounded sorry if that's hard to follow, but i get the point of grounding and i'm not an idiot, i just don't see why the ground path and neutral path aren't seperate entirely as one (ground) is only needed in a fault condition and the other (neutral) is part of the regular circuithey sorry i'm a bit confused, i get what grounding does (have all along), but i still don't really get why it's bonded to neutral at the panel.and eaglewatcher, why do they bond neutral to the shell of washers and dryers? is it sort of like how in a car you use the frame/body to distribute the negative (hot) to the electronics? more

So years ago I heard a cover of gin and juice, it wasn't rap, it was being sang. It's not the bluegrass version (the gourds, phish, dave, blues traveler, etc.) and it's not the one by nofx/the berlin project, not hot rod circuit, not a reggae version. Heat is conducted through metals primarily due to motion of electrons so what is the difference between current and heat transfer? Why don't we get shock but burn when we touch a hot rod? If a rod AB is heated at end A then electrons will flow to point B creating potential difference. But to continue the flow of heat, electrons must return to point A by some means, like completing the circuit in electrical. How do electrons return? What will happen to heat transfer through rod if I apply potential difference such that electron flow from electrical PD opposes electron flow due to temperature difference? more

One immersion rod is in a bucket of water. The switch is turned on. To save on time, can we use two(or more) immersion rods(some call it heater) from two(or multiple) sources in the same bucket of water? Note: When the switch is ON, it is possible to put your fingers to check if the water is hot enough. (But there is some current that passes). Some say that, if that is possible, another rod can be immersed. But will it not cause a short circuit? Thanks for your time. more

Resolved Question: Why multi conductor circuits.?

Why do they always run a hot, common and ground for an electrical circuit when you can get a complete circuit just using the hot and a good grounding rod driven into the ground. This seams redundant and wasteful. Running three copper wires instead sure uses a lot more copper than just one wire with a ground. I take it there are things going on here that I do not understand.
