Lpn Colleges Questions asked

Open Question: Can a licenced RN do what an LPN can?

I want to get my license as a registered nurse but I want to do what an LPN does. I want to stay close to home and raise my future family where i was but the closest college that offers LPN studies in MILES away. I just want to know if I got my RN if i can actually go into someones home and take care of them like an LPN does. more

Open Question: What is the most economical/ affordable, not overly difficult to get LPN certified around Albany, NY?

I live in Catskill, NY and am looking to get my LPN. What trade schools or colleges are nearby that are affordable in the area? Either towards Kingston or the Albany area? Thanks for any suggestions. more

Voting Question: Should I feel this way about not getting into the Practical Nursing program?

I started college in November.I really wanted to get into the LPN program but i failed the admission test.( I'm really bad at math) I passed the admissions testing for medical assisting though. Since Nov I have been going towards my degree in health sciences with a major in medical assisting. The thing is I really want to be in the LPN program! Im secretly jealous of the LPN students which I know is completely childish and selfish. Is it okay to feel this way? Or should I feel grateful I'm even being given the chance to go to school for health care- whether in be practical nursing or medical assisting? Should I really be even going for this degree this if it's not what I want to do in the long run? Sorry this has just been bugging me for some time thx! more

Resolved Question: What colleges have a program Nursing Progarm?

i have a 2.0 GPA. and i want to get a bachlors degree or masters in nursing. what colleges offer that that i will be able to get into? ...because i can go to community college but the only offer LPN. i want to be RN. sooo idk. what do you think? more

Resolved Question: How do i choose between an LPN vs. RN career?

I'm currently in my second year (4th semester) at a local community college in my area. I went to college directly after high school. I didn't do all that well in high school, my accumulative gpa was a 2.5. I never studied & had no plans of attending a university. After I graduated, my dad bascially told me that i'm going to college. I didn't have a choice. I always knew I wanted to be in a profession that I could constantly interact and care for people, so that's why I just decided to go into nursing. I'm doing fairly well in college. I have a 3.0 gpa. However, I struggle in anatomy & chemistry. I withdrawled from Anatomy I my first semester and retook it and got a C. I got a C in into to anatomy too. I'm currently in organic, general, & biological chemistry I, which I also withdrew from once before & i'm really struggling with it. I also am taking my LAST psych 121 class & my teacher is rediculously hard. None of my other psychology's were near as difficult. I'm constantly under pressure because i'm on financial aid and i have to be full time. I just can't deal with this stress anymore. I found out that I won't be able to enter a nursing program till 2011 which takes three years to complete. I'm two years in, so it's going to take me two years longer to attain my BSN. I'm thinking now that I should just go to LPN school. I think i'm way in over my head and I never really learned how to study properly from the begging, and the classes are just going to get harder from here. So what do you think, should I go with my gut and go to LPN school? Or should i fight through it and be completely miserable for 4 more years till i graduate. =/ more

Resolved Question: University vs. Community college?

I am going to be attending college soon. I wanted to start out at a community college first to become an LPN. Then I wanted to transfer to a University later and become a nurse practitioner. But my question is if I go to college at the community college first to become an LPN do you think I would still be just as eligible and still get paid just as much as an LPN that graduated from a University? Both types of colleges give the same certification. I was just wondering if a job would be unbiased about whether I graduated from a technical college or a University. Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Should I do a Pre-Nursing at university or 12 month Nursing program...?

I was in college and had no idea of what to do with my life and ended up dropping out because i got pregnant. I miscarried and now i don't know what to do with my life. I've ben thinking alot about my future and what i should do. I need a job but i don't want to just work at a job like walmart and be stuck. I was looking forward to being a mother because i like to care for other people. So im think i want to be a nurse. My original plan was to do a 12 month LPn program since i was pregnant, but now that im not im debating if i should return back to University in Houston and start up there 2 year Pre-Nursing program since i've already got some credits. If I do the LPN program i will most likely stay in California for convince (i moved back home because of the babies) but i really don't want to be here. I really dont know what to do or which is the best way to go. Which one wil e better and guaranteee me a job to support myself? more

Resolved Question: Should I go for nursing or culinary arts?

I'm currently a CNA at a nursing home and get paid a decent amount, but I'm going to a Community and Technical College. I applied for the LPN and RN programs at the tech school, but I really like culinary arts which is also a program at the tech school. I want to be smart in my decision so I feel like I should stick with nursing, but I would love to learn to cook and maybe start my own restaurant. I'm so unsure of what to do. Any opinions? more

Resolved Question: Im from another country and im considering to get a fake high school diploma. HELP!!!?

Hi, I'm from the Philippines, and I didn't finished my high school because of money problems, we were poor and even public school has a tuition fee in our country. Now I worked hard to get here in the United states, I passed the test to become a CNA, but I really wanted to go to college so I can study for an LVN/LPN but I don't have the time and guts to take the GED test. Now, my question is, would they know if i'm going to fake my high school diploma from the Philippines, I figured, since the Philippines is too far from here, would they even still call my previous school from the Philippines just so they know that I really graduated there? Please help me, I would really wanted to be a nurse so I can save money and petition my mom, she's sick and im doing my best to save more money so I can get her fast so she can stay here with me, so I can look after her. more

Resolved Question: Who Knows About A LPN In Nursing?

I'm going to Essex County College for my 2-years and my major is nursing. I want to be a LPN in nursing and I'm wondering can I get a job at a program or at a hospital as a LPN?? can someone help me please?:) more

Resolved Question: What do you love and hate about being a Certified Nurse Assistant? Are you an LPN or RN after being a CNA?

I am 5 months pregnant and unemployed. It has come to my attention that there is free CNA training at a local hospital as well as at some local nursing homes. Ideally, I would like to get the training at the hospital so that I could potentially move around between different departments rather than just working with geriatric patients. It makes me a little nervous to sign a contract to work at a nursing home for a year in order to get the free training. However, living off of state aid is not something I am very comfortable with and I am not afraid of working hard in a less than ideal environment to put food on the table. I would really like to be an RN, but my state's community colleges have a wait of at least 3 semesters before you can be considered for the program, because it is in such high demand. So it makes sense to me to get the free training to be a CNA and then work while I take a class here and there to meet the prerequisites for the nursing program. I have read that nursing homes and hospitals might offer training or tuition reimbursement for employees to move up the ranks to LPN, but I haven't heard too much about CNAs becoming RNs. I'm looking for feedback about being a CNA, both good and bad. I would also like to know anyone's personal experience receiving free training from a nursing home or hospital, especially if you have gone from CNA to RN or CNA to LPN to RN. Is it difficult or does it require working for a nursing home for a long time before they will pay for your training? Have you been a CNA in a hospital and a nursing home and is it worse at a nursing home? Have you juggled a career as a CNA and/or nursing school and being a mom? Any details would be greatly appreciated. more

Voting Question: Nursing school plans, some imput from nurses will be appreciated?

Hello, I am 19 years old, and I want to become a nurse. I became a CNA to work in the field and make sure nursing was for me before I made the big decision on starting to go that way. I have been working as a CNA for four months and have decided nursing is right for me. I will be starting prereqs next semester and will work my way through an AA in nursing to then transfer to a university to get my BSN. Since I will have to pay for my education without my parents' help, I thought it would be good to do an LPN program and work part time as an LPN to be able to pay for the university's tuition and other expenses, and also gain some nursing experience. Well the LPN program has a waiting list of one year so I would be working on the AA in the mean time, and working as a CNA. Well once thay call me to tell me to start the LPN program I would probably be doing that and either pause the prereqs for the 14 months or onl take like one class per semester. What I'm wondering is if this is like a waste of time in any way, some people tell me I should just do the ASN at a community college and then do an RN to BSN program. I just want to know what other nurses and nursing students have to say about all of this. I know that in the end I make my decision based upon what's good for me, but some imput from people who have been through all of this would be greatly apreciated. Also I really don't want to take out a student loan. more

Resolved Question: how many years does it take to become an RN and what kind of training should you take?

starting with high school graduation. I was thinking to take a CNA certification course right after graduation, they go to college the next fall and study to be a LPN then after receiving that certification work part time as I continue my schooling to become an RNA I figure this should be about three years. What are your thought? more

Voting Question: Can you become an License practical nurse, then go back for 2 more years to be a registered nurse?

Resolved Question: Best way to earn an LPN degree?

I graduated a few years ago with a bachelors of science and decided not to apply for graduate school and start working in my field (well, not really my field. But working nonetheless!). My husband recently joined the Navy as an officer which means we'll be moving around the US every few years. I've decided to make a career change and am having trouble finding some information. I know two year nursing (R.N) programs are VERY competitive- I thought it may be better for me to earn an LPN degree first and then work on my R.N. Can someone explain where I can do this program- besides just a community college? Are there technical schools? How do I get in? And what's a break down of the admission process. I plan on doing my pre-requisites over because it's been three years since my advanced chem/bio/math courses. And also doing volunteer work and earning the CNA certification. Thanks Thanks for the helpthanks emily- but if I want an RN I'm going to have to re-do because they'll be 4-5 years old at that point. Most RN programs like current pre-req's. more

Resolved Question: Transitioning to nursing career?

Hello, I am an engineering school graduate with a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering. After not finding a good job, I am considering to go for nursing. I have heard that nursing admission has become a headache these days and it's hard to even get into a community college ADN program. I am coming from a non biology or non chemistry background. how much time and money should I expect to invest in next two years? What could be the best way for me to approach this field of studies? Can I go for LPN first? Shall I have to get in a waiting list for a community college ADN program? How to pass PAX or NET exam? more

Resolved Question: How do I move on from being a nanny to a professional career?

Ok, so I'm 28. Grew up and (still) live with my big Italian family on Long Island, NY. I received an associates degree in Liberal Arts/Sciences from a SUNY school, then transferred to sell my soul for tuition at a private school for a year until I came to realize that I was digging myself a financial hole with an annual $32,000 loan and never registered again after. So with that, while I was in school I became a nanny, a live out nanny. Ive been a nanny for 6 years now. I've always wanted to have a real career (hence my college endeavors) however, the money and freedom that came with the occupation of a nanny was far too good to walk away from. I make $1000 off the books per week (Monday-Friday 8am-6pm with 2-5hour breaks in between depending on the day and about 5 or 6 weeks of paid vacation a year- yes I know, it really is a great job). The problem is, the youngest child under my care will be attending kindergarten full-time this coming September and I will no longer be needed. I have always networked myself in the town and have met lots of families that have been trying to steal me away from the family I have been with all these years. However, I don't want to be a professional nanny anymore! I want a real job! A career. I always have. So now, all these years have passed me by and I have no bachelor degree and no experience. Although I'm a fast learner, very smart, witty, educated and have great work ethic, all that doesn't add up to much on a resume. So my question is... what are my options? I have been making strides towards finishing a bachelor degree at a community college, but Ive only been taking 1 class per semester so it seems like a world away. Also, I'm kind of over the idea of school. To be honest, I would just like to do some job training and land something that way. Is this possible? I'm really open to pretty much anything, although I am mostly interested in sales, because I'm a people person. I understand that finding any kind of employment is difficult in these trying times, especially with my current salary, but I am eager to work and am willing to start out at the bottom and work my way up wherever. I have tossed around the idea of a trade school or something like an LPN program or something related but I think I'm more of a business-minded person; but like I said... I'm really open to just about anything. Any suggestions? more

Voting Question: Adult class in Highschool with no federal code to get financial help, can i still get a loan?

I'm taking an ADULT LPN nursing program of 18 months in NYC which is being held in a high school. The tuition is $10,000. The place unfortunately has no federal code as of yet since its not being in a college but i was told that they were in the process of applying for an app in order to get sally mae loans from the very start (back in October) for the students. I told them i couldn't pay such a tuition but i was told to just take the class anyway since the loans will be in effect soon. Its January now and still nothing about these loans. However now they're demanding that i pay 4,500$ out of my pocket by June or risk being removed from the class. i tell them "well, what about these loans?" and they only tell me "you can only hope that these loans are given out by June" so in other words, i'm brought into the class with the promise of receiving help from a loan but as of today i have no loan, however i do have teachers on my back telling me to pay. I almost feel like this is some form of bribery. Does anyone know what i can possibly do in this situation? it would help out so much (BTW i found this LPN program on NYC.gov) more

Resolved Question: Steps to being a RN with OB/GYN or L/D or Midwife practice?

Hi, I am currently waiting to start school in the spring. I am going to be doing a CNA class to get Certified .. then eventually Registered. Hoping to knock out of pre-reqs for the Nursing Programs in Washington State .... I am hoping to next year (winter) to get into a ADN program at any of the local community colleges ... getting my LPN, first year, then RN second year. If my plan goes as I hope it does, or even takes longer than that, cause the program is full ... what steps do I take afterwards to become a RN, that works with OBGYN or the L & D Ward at Hospitals. I know I have to have 1 to 2 years of experience, so that would be the first step getting a job as a RN ... first .. but what steps can i take to help me advance and get more experience ... (any advice or tips would be awesome) .... oh on another note ... if anyone knwos what YWAM is, I can do my DTS this summer for 6 months ... and then next July 2011 .. go and do a BAS, which is a Birthing Attendant School, where for a year, I learn midwifery curriculum and go into the field of third world courntries and work with young mothers for womens health and care and education and pregnant women, and actually get to put my skills to practice and deliver babies and offer pre-natal and post natal care ... I am excited at the chance to maybe do this ... would this help me out that much more when it comes to this??? I would be getting my CNA first .. but probably wouldn't be able to get my LPN .... so good idea or bad?? Thanks in advance everyone .. idiotic answers just for points will be ignored ...I did a little more research ... and I need my ADN, then my BSN ... and possibly I could do a Hospital Diploma in lieu or on top of both degrees .... Generally about how much on average will my Associates then Bachelors cost. more

Voting Question: DO LPN or RN CLASSES MAKE YOU?

Do public speaking if you take nursing courses at a on-campus college? If so, how often? And are there classes that do not require presentations or speeches? If it does require public speaking on campus and I decided to major in something else ONLINE instead would it still require public speaking/presentation outloud? Also how hard are the LPN classes? Not so much a phobia speaking one on one or in a regular conversation, but making public speeches infront of an audience/classroom where all eyes and ears are focused on me makes me nervous as hell.Like book reports I used to have to do in grade school..lol I hope college is nothing like that.LPN's are in demand in my area and are only being phased out of the hospital settings but still are in big demand. I do not have so much of a problem speaking with regular people but I just get nervous making any presentation and public speeches in a class setting. It's awkard and I am an introvert to begin with in the first place. I've already worked as a CNA in H.S. but I am ready to move on. more

I lost my job in Sept. 08'. I started working part time in Aug. 09'. I still collect partial unemployment. I had been attending college for my RN, however when I lost my job I was no longer able to afford it and the expense associated with it. I decided to go for my LPN (then further it into an RN). My biggest issue is that I am having trouble with my time. It is not the coursework but the time management. I am constantly tired to the point of almost falling asleep. I can't seem to get all of my studying done (I study I just don't have time to finish everything). In order to continue receiving my unemployment I have to continue to work. I did take an hour reduction. I work 2 hours in the evening on Tue and Thur and I do 5 hours a day every other weekend. I have no children so that is very good. I am married (my husband is also unemployed). But I am getting frustrated with him. He helps but only puts in a 50% effort. He does some housework. But instead of doing all the dirty dishes hell do just whatever he needs to cook. He might pick up some but then doesn't run the vacuum things like this. It is driving me crazy and I am trying so hard to appreciate what he is doing. But what is so frustrating is that he acts like I should do some of the housework. I really don't have time. I get up at 5 am leave by 6 start class at 7 im there until 3:30 I get home about 4:30 eat study shower and bed between 9 and 10:30 days I work I work from 5-7 then study shower and go to bed. I've todl him I will do what I can on the weekends since I dont have class. The other day I came home between school and work and was hoping to grab some supper then out the door (luckily it is only a 5 min drive to work from my home) and I found my husband in bed and absolutely nothing done!!!! I just feel like I am trying so hard to improve our lives that he should try harder to make it a little easier on me. Last night I asked him to help me study for a test today but he moped and mumbled around. This isn't the man I married where is he?!!! He thinks it is a great thing for me to do he believes in me he even barrowed some money from his mom to help me get my uniforms and supplies but why won't he help more at the house? Can a person get a lazier as they get older (hes 31)? Or, what is the issue?I left out that the house is also trashed he is continuously letting things lay around (like I have time to pick up after him). he also acts like what he has done or is doing is already above and beyond. How can I show him that I am maxed out? It is bad enough we have barely spoken bc when I am home I have my nose in a book. I have tried explaining to him that we have to sacrifice. I just don't think he understands the meaning of the word. more

Resolved Question: HOW TO BECOME A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT IN SEATTLE?

I have just finished up all my college prerequisites for PA school and am planning on applying to UW and going to Yakima, WA campus to do the Bachelors program. Now I was wondering, if anyone can advise me ON what is the best experience to gather for the patient-care part of the PA program. Medical Assistant, LPN, RN or CNA etc- Which Area will make me stick out when I apply and what kind of patient experience should I gather from any of these kind of entry programs without spending to much time or money on the technical course? I have heard surgical technicians have a better chance to getting into PA school, is this true? Any recent graduated physician assistants that have any advise? more

Voting Question: Does anyone know an LPN program I can do online?

I live in NC and am too far away from any tech schools and even the community colleges here are booked for at least another year to even apply to get into their LPN program. I really want to see if there are any online options. All my searches are coming up with no options for on line. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Do i need to change completely or am I on track?

i turned 20 yrs old in august of 2009, i am a freshman in college i don't really know what i want to do with my life but i have somethings in mind. I lived with my sister when i was 18 and still in high school but then i left and moved in with my parents, after that i moved into a room with my little sister but got sick of that and decided to fix up the basement in my house so now im 20 yrs old i live in the basement of my house and i have kind of an apartment set up down here. Because of the economy my mom was gonna loose the house so i use money i make from my job and get form financial aid to help her out because my father is worthless. While im here i am helping out and saving to transfer to my dream university out of state. Im a good daughter and a great sister i have never given my mother any trouble like my other sisters and i never went through one of those teenage rebellion stages. i don't drink, smoke, party, or break the law in anyway. Im hopeful for my future and have big dreams. But my older sister seems to think that i should have everything figured out by now and that im to old to be confused about what im doing with my life but truth be told when she was my age she was still living here and she got her LPN and moved out but when she got out she became an alcoholic and did nothing but party so because of her misbehaving i being a few years younger am ahead of her in college by a significant amount. But she still thinks that im the pathetic one. Am I pathetic? DO I need to grow? Am i a normal 20 yr old or do need to change and act like one? honestly i dont know anymore. more

Voting Question: Credit for life experience? Not a degree mill.?

I am looking for a legit place where I can get some life credit. I was in a trade school for LVN (LPN) I was half way through before tragedy struck & I had to leave. I learned a lot, does this not apply anywhere? Can I get college credit for trade school credit? I thought there has to be something out there since I have received college credit for my military service. I have about 60 credits total, some military most from school. Also, what if you own a business, do you get credit for that? Something should be said for being successful, now if only I could accomplish this silly bachelors degree just so I can post it on my wall & go back to working for myself! I am not looking for a degree mill place. Thanks & Happy New Year more

Resolved Question: What college is best for someone wanting to be a LPN?

The college has to be near north ga because that is were my husband and I live. The college has to have a good financial aid and not that expensive. I only want people to answer this question if they are going to answer it with a good answer no fussing me out for posting the question. more

Voting Question: I need help with student loans... Any information you have would be helpful.?

Okay, so long story short, I am a high school drop out. I am 16, and will soon get my GED. I work at a local grocery store and my parents make about $70,000 together per year. I would love to get a grant to go to college, but I doubt I would qualify for one. So I am going to go to the local community college to take an LPN course. Of course, I have to take two courses prior to taking the actual course, not to mention the classes that are required because of my scores on the compass test. So before the actual LPN class, which is I think, a one year program, I'll have to take aprx. 4 classes. Would a student loan pay for all of these classes? Is there a payment plan where I won't have to pay anything until i'm completely out of college and have an LPN job? Who gives out student loans? Does some place like Bank of America offer student loans? Oh, and I won't have my GED until after I am 17, and already in the prereqs.. Which the college allows. Do you have to be over 18 to get a student loan? Any information will be helpful. Thank you in advance. more

Resolved Question: 5 years gone. How do i forget?

I actually hope someone reads this and can give me some advice. I met this wonderful girl 5 years ago. We both worked at a Haunted House together and we clicked right away. Her mom did not really approve because she had a bad rep with her boyfriends she would bring home. I am now 23 and she is 21. So anyways, We stayed connected after the haunted house closed for the season until February of the next year when we started sneaking around to see each other. We did this until around June when her mom was cool with me starting to come around more and be with her. We officially started our relationship on June 26th, 2006. For the first year things were amazing with her, but her parents were still a little sketchy with me. We would have to do lawn work and chores just to spend time together. Which I did without a second thought. I helped her get a job with me and my store and we eventually went to college together. We did everything a couple would do and even a little more i guess.. I guess I'll jump a head a bit. Around October 2008 she started to have feelings for a guy in our "group" of friends. He was in his mid 30's and a huge pothead. But she felt this attraction cause of the music they liked together. So she started sneaking over to see him and I ended it then because I could not take that. About 2 days later she knew it was a bad idea and cried and pleaded for me to take her back. So i did. Then in Jan she was caught flirting hardcore with another 30 yr old through texts and that again pissed me off but i did not end it. She said it was nothing. (it repeats, im sorry). Then she was talking with a guy online with another older guy and this one ended it with me and her for months. Then she came around one day and never stopped again. She bought me a promise ring and said "i want us forever". (i gave her, her promise ring on Valentines day of 07'). We decided to go to Niagara Falls and spend the weekend in July. Everything was amazing, the trip, the people, EVERYTHING! which is why i should have known it was bullshit...my phone died and i grabbed hers to tell her mom what was going on and when to expect us and I saw a text soon as i opened it. from the guy who ended our relationship previously saying "hope you are having fun in canada with lauren(being her sister). I yelled at her, packed our bags and layed in bed telling her we are leaving right away in the AM. (again long story short, did not talk and i took her back) THIS IS THE END I SWEAR: Being a couple again, she started back to school and a new job as an LPN. there she met a 42 yr old guy and I found out she was doing her flirting again. I ended it perminatly. she actually ran away from home, moved in with him. she left there because he was psycho. she moved in with her friend Jen. She called me a lot during that time and wanted to hang out. I did a couple times. Now she sees a 30+yr old with two kids, one whom he just found out was his....and we will more then likely not talk anymore... HERE IS THE THING: I want to move on. and forget he. I cry a lot to be honest. I miss her and what we had at the beginnning. I know it would never be the same if we tried. I just dont know what is going on in my head. I want her but I dont. I love her, I'm jealous and I forgive to easy and she can see right throught that i think. Please any info to help me will help....tell me what u think of all this and just what i should do, cause anymore i dont trust my own decisions.... more
