Lpn Degrees Questions asked

Open Question: How do I become a nurse? ?

I am wanting to become an RN but in the least amount of time possible. I work full-time as does my husband. He is currently attending school full-time also. We also have a 2 year-old daughter. I am wanting to become and RN but don't know what is the best way to go about it. Can you do it online or do you have to take the classes on campus? Should I become an LPN then take the RN exam? Get an associates in nursing? Get a bachelor's in nursing? I don't know the difference between all these degrees or which one would be best for me.  more

I am currently looking to go back to school. I am a single mother of three ages 3 to 2 months. With that said I would like to go to an online school.I want to get an associates degree in nursing(LPN). Does anyone know of any good schools online or should I go to a physical campus?People that have done the online thing your info would e appreciated. Well, uh lets see. Resolved Question: Becoming a nurse, where do i start?

My Wife wants to become a nurse. She is 21 years old. We live in New Jersey. I think the process is to get an associates degree from a community college and then transfer to work towards a 4 year degree in a state school. However... looking online at Bergen Community College where she already has about 16 credits, it says all nursing applicants for the A.A.S evening program need to have a valid NJ LPN license. (legal practical nurse) How does she first obtain this? If i am wrong on the steps, please advise me. Thank you, Yes are we talking community college... im sure with a high school diploma and a few credits she can't go straight into nursing school?  more

Resolved Question: Which nursing degree do I need if I already have a BA?

I am thinking about going back to school to be a RN. I currently have a BA in Communications. So, what degree would I have to get? LPN, BSN??? Whats the big differences, and with either of these, can I take the RN test?  more

Resolved Question: Accelerated second degree in nursing (BSN) - what are the best schools for that in Michigan?

I'm about to graduate with a bachelor of science in health care administration. I've always been interested in nursing, though. If anyone knows about associates degrees in nursing that would be great too. As long as it's a program that allows you to be a RN, not a LPN, and has a reputation for 95%+ success rates on the NCLEX-RN.  more

Resolved Question: Real College or Job Training?

I want to attend a community college for their Nursing program to become a RN. I'm wondering if there would be any need for me to travel off to a "real college" when I could just take job training for the same thing. It seems like I can start community college and become an LPN and then take their bridge program to become an RN. But I'm confused as to weather there is some degree or something I have to receive in college that would make it official. Or weather i can just start working right out of community college.  more

Resolved Question: Question for nurses or nursing students?

Okay my situation is like this Im 26 years old I have two small children and a two family income. I was in and out of college since last year working towards my nursing degree (Rn) I have finished all my pre requisites. The reason why I dropped out of school was because there was no way I could get into the nursing program and not be able to work. I want to become a nurse I was a CNA for many years and liked the field only thing is I no longer has my certificate because I moved out of state and my certificate lapsed. I Was looking into a Lpn program thats for 11 months my question is Are they any ways to go through nursing and still have a job or if not a job different ideas of how I can go to school yet still support my family The reason I want to go for my LPN is I figured I could get a job in a hospital then while Im working do a bridge program from LPN to RN then later down the road try for my bsn  more

Voting Question: How many years to become a NICU nurse?

I'm a freshman in high school and I have a class next semester called "Intro to Healthcare" It's a nursing class, and my teacher told us if we take it all four years, when we graduate we will have a degree from the local college to be a LPN. How many years would I have to attend college to become an Neonatal Intensive Care nurse, which I'm assuming I would just have to get a degree to be a RN?? Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: How many years does it take to become a nurse?

How long does it take to get your degree to be and LPN and how long does it take to get an RN? Also do you need to get a bachelor's degree to be a nurse or is a community college fine?  more

Resolved Question: LPN/RN question! HELP?

Okay, well i'm currently attending college for nursing. For my LPN degree it would take about a year and a half, but for RN around 4 years. I'm at a point in my life where I want to move out of my parents house, get a new car, and start a life of my own. But the only problem is I can't do all that while being in school for 4+ years, so I was thinking about getting my LPN degree, make sure that's what I really want to do with my life, and then go back for my RN later. I realize that LPNs aren't really common in hospitals anymore, but I don't want to work in a hospital, my goal is to work in a pediatrics office. My parents on the other hand don't think this is a good idea and think that I should go for my RN right away. Any advice? I am at a community college and it says its a 2 year degree but really it turns out to be 4 because they require a lot of pre-reqs that are pointless such as a bunch of electives,gym,speech,2 english classes,2 math classes,3 levels of anatomy, psych, abnormal psych, sociology  more

Voting Question: Student Loans Fiasco?

While I was in school I initially accumulated around $5,000 worth of loans. During my freshman year I decided to study abroad in Ghana in Africa. I had planned to go into the International Foreign Service upon completing college and I thought the experience overseas would a great introduction to international culture. The complete cost of the program itself for one semester was around $15,000, but I received a large scholarship that covered most of the cost. While abroad I was told my by school that due to the fact that 2 of my classes were non-transferable (and the University of Ghana would not let me change classes) my scholarship would be cut down to $3,000 (which I really had to press for) leaving me needing a $12,000 private student loan. I was referred to SallieMae and I was able to get the complete amount in a loan, but the interest rate was 12.5%. I figured things would be okay because I would be making a lot in the future. However, upon returning I met and fell in love with my husband while still in school and I realized that I could never leave him. We got married and I got pregnant and not knowing what I was going to do with school, and scared about my loans, I dropped out. Now my loans have accumulated to a total of almost $20,000 and I have no degree to show for it except for a General Studies AA degree. I've decided to go back to school to get my LPN degree (1 year program at a local community college), but I'm so scared about my loan building up due to the interest in the meantime. Is there anything I can do to lower my interest rate? Do you have any advice for me? Thanks for your help.  more

Voting Question: What to do about an RN degree?

I just became an MA with a degree and am taking radiography in the spring. i have an associates of applied science under my belt as well. everything i have heard in town is the CNA then you have to go to the LPN, then the Rn program. or there is a program at my school but you have to go through all these preresquisites and it seems pointless and a waste to take classes over when i don't have to. what is the best/quickest wat to RN? (IF there is one) *IF it makes a difference, i live in KY  more

Voting Question: Are there any colleges in Miami where I can get LPN or RN degree in less then 4 yrs.?

Resolved Question: If i'm wanting to be an RN? ?

I was just wondering. I'm going to be going to a Community College at first, then a 4 year college. I'm wondering what degree I should be taking in the 2 year college. They have no specific degree in becoming an RN, but they have one for LPN. They also don't have just a "nursing" program. I was wondering if I should go for the (diploma) Practical Nursing OR Associate Degree Nursing Completion- Associate of applied science degree. When I go to the 4 year I will be getting a degree in Midwifery, so i'm wanting to get the RN out of the way first..  more

Voting Question: To get a Masters or Become an LPN/RN?

Here's the story I started my undergrad degree as a pre-nursing student for a BSN program. I was placed on a waiting list and got discouraged and changed my major to Health Science. I graduated with the Health Science degree with no jobs available. Now I am trying to decide if I should go back to Nursing at the local technical school or get my Masters in Education were I got my Bachelor Degree? I do not know why my heart is telling me to go back and try nursing but then I am afraid of it not working out and wishing I had of went back for my Masters. What would you do if you had prenursing classes done although they are about 4-5 years old but would be accepted at the local schools for nursing? Would you get into a nursing program using those classes or take the classes over and do nursing or would you move on and get a Masters in something else like Education? Thanks for responding everyone. I am basically afraid that my pre-nursing courses like a&p1/2, micro, etc from 4 years ago is not as fresh in my mind today as it was 4 years ago. Therefore, I am conflicted with trying to try nursing again or just move on with a masters in teaching.  more

Resolved Question: SUNY transfer for BSN?

I want to get a degree in nursing, not LPN, but a BSN, so I changed my major in this college so I could take some science courses and finish core courses to improve my grades. My current college doesn't offer any nursing courses, and it doesn't even have a nursing program. I want to transfer to another college, a SUNY, so I can keep my loans coming in. Where would I look for SUNY colleges with a decent nursing program that accepts transfers?  more

Resolved Question: Nursing Degree Question!?

Can anyone tell me if the previous course I took and passed in the RN program*which i had to end due to personal issues* would counteract or take the place of any of the LPN curriculum? Do I just have to start over? I completed 2 full semesters of the RN program and half of the third before having to drop out and have already done my ER clinical, OR clinical and Post Op Clinical! Resolved Question: Can I sue webster university?r=1223661600?

I was 18 and just got my GED. English was not my first langauage so I left high school to study and get my GED. I thought I was worth nothing and ran into a Webster University ad (somewhere Florida). I went there to discuss what I might want to do. I told the guy I wanted to go for RN (registered nurse) and he told me that this place is perfect. I was told that RN is a 2 year degree and that they offer a LPN degree which takes 1.5 years. I took out massive loans to attend this school. After 2 semesters I found out that none of the credits are transferable and that if a college did not want to accept them they did not have to because the standard is a 4 digit system and websters is 3 which is not used by community colleges. This guy told me that I can take what I get at webster and use it towards my RN degree. HE TOLD ME THEY TRANSFER. Well, now I owe salie mae 6k. I don't want to screw salie mae but I don't want webster to take advantage of me and others like this. What can I do?  more

Radiology or X-ray tech. What are the differences in the degrees for being a tech, or a LPN/RN? Any input would be greatly appreciated Thank!  more

Voting Question: Listen to dad? Do what i want? oh wut to do wut to do......?

OK, well i'm 17 and at the point in my life when I have to figure out what I want to do with my life. I'm technically a senior high school, but I'm dual-enrolling full time at the community college (been homeschooled since Kindergarten, dual-enrolled since the 10th grade). I'm working on my 2 year A.A. General Transfer degree. After I get that here, I want to transfer to a 4 year university to get my Bachelors in something. The thing is, i don't know what to get it in. I like math, so I was thinking accounting, but my dad says "you don't want a desk job, too boring, doesn't pay much" (he majored in accounting). i'm taking intro to Psychology now and I'm at the top of my class, it's interesting and I like it, but dad says "you would have to get your Masters in it and then get a teaching job, not many other choices for that, but it would make a good minor". he thinks i should go to a tech school (like my older brother and sister who are now in tech schools becoming a fire fighter/EMT - bro and LPN - sis), or go into a profession like Physical Therapy (pays great) or something media related (many job openings). also going into the Air Force is something he's wanted all 3 of his kids to do. i mean what do i do? the only thing i really want to be in life is a wife and mother (which is when he mentioned Southeastern University "bridal college". we personally know over 20 people who have gone there and came home with a wife/husband). so i'm kinda at a loss here. i want some kind of degree but don't really know why or how I'll use it. and i don't want to go to college just to get married. other people have told me "you've got time to figure it out", my parents tell me "they aren't the ones paying for your education you need to figure it out and soon" HELP!!!!  more

Resolved Question: Where is a good place for a nurse to work?

I am in the process of getting my STNA certification. I am going to go on and get my LPN degree. I am having a problem deciding where I would want to work after I get done with school. I know that I have two years or more to decide, I am just uncertain. I have family that works in a nursing home, and I know that I don't want to end up working in a nursing home. I would really like to work in a hospital, but I also know that alot of the hospitals are doing away with LPNs. I will eventually go on and get my RN, I just want to start off with my LPN and then go from there. If anyone has any ideas as far as a good place for a nurse to work, please let me know. I want something that is different each day I go in and something that I would be making a difference in doing. Thanks so much!  more

Resolved Question: Online Nursing Degree.. Help?!\?

I am an LPN student at the moment and I recently signed up for an do-it-yourself LPN to ADN program. It seems legit. The company is recognized by the NLN and is accredited in every faction. You enroll into the prereqs and various nursing classes, they send you your books, you study, let them know when you want to take the CLEP exam, fly out to a different state for a week for clinicals, and voila you're an ADN. Then you take your NCLEX to become registered. I'm excited and it all seems great. I'm not too worried about the lack of clinicals, because basically the only thing an RN does that a LPN can't do is IV push which I'm sure is easily mastered with practice. However, my mom, (RRT) says not to do it, because of the lack of clinical experience and that once a hospital sees how I got my degree, no one will hire me. Is this true? I mean, if I passed the state boards, why wouldn't they hire me? Not to mention the horrible nursing shortage everyone hears about!? Should I go for it or not?? Any opinions??  more

We need to know if she can work in Cali on her degree from Georgia, or if she will need extra classes, or if it would be better just to go on and start the program anew there. Any help, or direction to help would be greatly appreciated.  more

Resolved Question: I am currently a US Navy Corpsman, could that help me get into the Peace Corps?

Hello everyone, So i am currently serving int he US Navy as a Corpsman. I will soon be going to Field Medical School then deploying with the Marines to either Iraq or Afghanistan. I did join in order that i might fight, not because i am some guy who just enjoys the thrill or wants to be a warfighter. I joined to answer the call of our country and to fight for a better and safer world to live in. (please no comments on your thoughts about war, this is just what i believe) But after serving my time for the military, i would love to join the Peace Corps and serve from the opposite end of a similar spectrum; serving to better the world we live in.. and the one my kids will live in. While serving in the military i plan to get as much school done as possible, but in the event that i do not finish college or get a degree, would it still be possible for me to be accepted into the Peace Corps? I understand that its a very selective process, so would i have any shot at it? If you dont know, corpsman are medical personnel, and at the least i plan to my get LPN license. Would that be enough to get me into the PC? Thanks.. Longggg question, i know. but thanks for reading. Its actually not too difficult to go to school while in the military. I've been in a for a year now, and have 4 left. So i should have a good amount of time to get schooling done. The military really encourages us to get an education. It may become a bit more difficult when we're deployed, but even so, i know of people who take classes online even while deployed. Its actually also not uncommon to see somebody whose gotten 2 BA's, or a masters, or even a doctorate. The opportunities to get an education is always there, its just up to the individual to take that extra work upon themselves (and i plan to). So... i dont know who told you that.. but i dont know of any military command that DOESNT have an educational department with both military and civilian counselors whose sole purpose in life is to help service members be able to go to school. You seem to be very misinformed about the military, but its ok, even a lot of people IN the military are naive to the options out there ;]  more

Resolved Question: I want to be a LPN or a RN??? How do I pull it off? Also, what is the average salary of a LPN or RN?

I know you have to be a CNA first, but is there any on line classes or tow-year classes that you can take? If, not what other kind of nurse or care-provider could I be with a two-year degree?  more

Resolved Question: LPN or RN or ACCOUNTING?

Okay so here is my dilemma: I am good at math. But I don't necessarily like it. But I figured, okay I'm good at it why not be an accountant? It pays very well. But it's a stressful job (depending on what route you go in) and I have a four month old daughter and I'm afraid with that type of job I'll never get to really be there for her! And then I was thinking of becoming an LPN because it's quick, usually no more than a year to finish. I'm pretty much good at anything I put my mind to, and I already worked in a hospital setting. It's not THAT bad I guess. But it pays very well. But then I figured okay, being a RN pays like 30K more a year and is only an extra year of school, and it's an actual degree not a certificate (like LPN). I'm so confused I have absolutely no idea in which direction I should go in. All I know is I have to think of something quick because it's all for my daughter. I want her to have the best life possible.  more
