Resolved Question: Nurses..please help...I'm thinking about becoming a nurse!?
i'm thinking of a career change. I've been in the beauty industry for a long time now and been thinking about becoming a nurse, but don't know how to start. i have no high school diploma, and no college credits or been to any college but except for beauty college( but that doesn't expand your knowlege about anything) I want to be a better person and that is why i'm thinking about being a nurse. what are the steps that i have to take? do you become a LPN first? and then go for your RN? is it better to go to a community college? how long does that take? do you have to take 2 year basic first also? I just want to be more then what I am and help people also, but just don't know where to start. Thanks to anyone who can help me!! moreResolved Question: Getting into an LPN program...?
If an LPN programs' pre-reqs say that you have to be at least 18yrs old, with a high school diploma. What if you turn 18 at the beginning of your senior year and since the LPN program lasts a yr. Could you start the LPN program and by the time you finish you'll have a high school diploma and they'll give you your LPN license? Would you think an employer would pay more if the LPN has I.V therapy certification? moreResolved Question: If i'm wanting to be an RN? ?
I was just wondering. I'm going to be going to a Community College at first, then a 4 year college. I'm wondering what degree I should be taking in the 2 year college. They have no specific degree in becoming an RN, but they have one for LPN. They also don't have just a "nursing" program. I was wondering if I should go for the (diploma) Practical Nursing OR Associate Degree Nursing Completion- Associate of applied science degree. When I go to the 4 year I will be getting a degree in Midwifery, so i'm wanting to get the RN out of the way first.. moreResolved Question: Which career program should I take? (LPN or ECE)?
At this point I am deciding between completing programs in either Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) or Early Childhood Educator (ECE). They are both about one year in length. I can try to be a Registered Nurse later on with the LPN diploma and I understand that LPNs get paid more in my region (west coast Canada). In regards to my educational background, I graduated from college with a 2 year diploma in arts, concentration in social sciences. I have already completed 3 years of university with a major in psychology and minor in business administration. I do not intend to finish this for personal reasons. I have a lot of volunteer experience with children. If you were in my shoes, would you choose the LPN or ECE program and why? moreResolved Question: Difference Between PN and LPN?
What is the different between a PN and LPN? I know one just has a diploma and one has a license but..is the pay different or anything to that extent different? moreResolved Question: Question about diploma and vocational schools.?
Okay long story but when i graduated when they handed me my diploma it was just a piece of paper stating it was being processed by the school board and it would be mailed to my parents address. That was in 2002 well my parents had moved and i moved also. I contacted the school board and they said i never took the Fcat/ hsct English part and i would have to do that first in order to receive it. after i graduated i moved to NC from FL and now im in pa. Does anyone know where i could go to obtain it? I read online you dont need a diploma to go to a community college. But i want to become a LPN. Will they accept me with no diploma? Can i do that online? Ive found a couple online.. But how do i go about taking the tests for acceptance online?! I just want to go back to school!! If i was to call a local community college what department would i speak to? Thanks ahead of time!! moreResolved Question: I want to become a physician assistance.?
I graduated High School in June 2008. Should i have been a RN or an LPN to become a physician assistance? I only have a High School diploma will i still be able to take classes in college without having any medical training in the past. please help me and thank u for your time any advice or information is greatly appreciated. moreResolved Question: Can you have a high school diploma to be a LPN?
I also did research on LPNs and so I read that you can have a high school diploma.. Do you thik that is my best bet then? moreResolved Question: Nursing accreditation?
I am looking for a good LPN program in my area. There seem to be only two, one at Penn Institute of Tech, and DE County Tech School. Here are the links: DCTS: http://www.dciu.org/923201311081063/site/default.asp PIT: http://pit.edu/index.html The DCTS is accredited for the LPN program, PIT is accredited for the general certificates/diplomas/degrees. Is PIT ok, or should I just wait on DCTS? PIT has a new class starting every month - DCTS has a wait until 09/09. Thanks. moreResolved Question: RN Diploma?
Hi, I'm a 20 yr old student who wants to switch my career path. I looked online and saw that HolyName School of Nursing is affiliated with the hospital and they offer a RN diploma program and a LPN diploma program. Now with the RN program. 57 credits can transfer over but the LPN cannot. I really have no idea on what to do. I don't want to start from stractch because I just finished my second year at a university and although I have missed registration for nursing school the upcomming academic year, I want to take the necessary courses so they will transfer over. Any advice out there?? Thnx!! moreResolved Question: What is a hospital based training diploma program for nursing and how does it work? I can't find the info.
I'm looking for one of those programs where the hospital trains you and then you work for them when your training is done. I have not been able to find much information on this, unless I didn't realize I had the answer. Anyhow, if anyone has info on this it would be greatly appreciated. I have already done a good majority of classes needed for nursing (LPN/RN) at college already, getting tired of their timelines though. moreVoting Question: Curious...RN and LPN wage in the U.S./U.K./Australia/Europe/Japan etc.?
I'm in Canada. The wages vary, but in my province, LPNs make $24-$26 per hour (2 year Diploma) and RNs typically make $26-$32 per hour with a new wage increase leading to an annual wage of $80,000+ in the next few years. What do nurses make in other countries? I'm not so sure about RNs, but the lowest LPN wage range I've seen is $17-$19, and the highest was $31-$35. An LPN is sometimes called an LVN in the US... moreResolved Question: Question for Nurses who are not "people" persons?....?
Please don't take my question the wrong way! Or tell me that my choice of education is an "inappropriate" fit. I am a Pre-Med student who will be obtaining an LPN diploma in the next year so I can work a few shifts a week and still make enough money to pay for university and rent (LPNs in my province are more like diploma RNs and make $26/hr). My issue is, although I give excellent care to the Residents in my current job as a PN student, I know that I think more "like a doctor" and not a nurse. I have a pleasant bedside manner, but other than that, I could never see myself happy as an RN. I think in terms of facts, figures, pathology, data, diagnostics, etc. and have a hard time "making small talk" and providing that nurturing care that nurses often choose the profession for. I treat my Residents extremely well medically with kindness and a smile, but I don't have that "mothering urge". If you are more of a techinical/science person and not a people person... what advice to you have to someone like me in a similar situation? I find myself looking over test results and asking diagnostic questions over just spending time with the patient. For whatever reason, I just don't find the scope of nursing satisfying, but I want to work in healthcare until I can finish my MD and this is the only way I can afford to do it. Help please! P.S. I want to give the best care to my patients as possible, so please, no rude comments or judging if you disagree with my statements. If you saw me at work, you'd have no idea how I feel. I just have no idea how to keep this up and be happy for the next 2 years or so... Steve, thanks, but you seem to have missed that I DO provide reassurance and a friendly disposition to those in my care. I ALWAYS keep in mind that my voice may be the last they hear. I already am working in a nursing environment, and those I work with think I do a great job. My point is that I think I will get burnt out, because I want to help patients from more of a medical aspect than nursing care. I need advice on how to manage for the next couple of years until I (presumably) get into med school. Thanks. Thank you Harley for your advice. moreResolved Question: do i have to have a high school diploma to become a LPN?
ok so im thinking about going back to school to be a lpn also known as a lvn but i dont have a high school diploma , i have a GED. moreResolved Question: what to do before nursing school?
I'm 20 years old and have aspirations of being an RN. I have no medical experience or background. I'm currently in school getting my certificate in CNA and a diploma in LPN. While I'm waiting to get in LPN program, I wanted to work as a CNA. But now I'm having second thoughts. I don't know what I want to. Should I go with phlebotomy, Emt-B, or stay with CNA? I don't want to go into nursing blindly. I want to go in emergency or surgical nursing. moreResolved Question: Is there too much confusion in current health care education?
Now there are programs where Medical assistants can get a certificate, but also programs where they can get an associate degree. LPN/LVNs also have the certificate/associate degree option. RNs can get a diploma, associate or BSN degree. PAs can currently get an associate, BS or master's degree. How can all of these programs be equal, and why are they all necessary. If an MA has an associate degree but the nurse running the office staff is an LPN with a certificate, how is less education criteria for supervision. Similarly, how can a PA with an associate degree give orders to an RN with a BSN. In hospitals often BSN RNs have ADN supervisors, though many hospitals are now making it necessary to have a BSN to be a supervisor. If it is necessary to have an associate degree to be an LPN how can you be an RN with the same education? Wouldn't it make more sense if there was a set entry for every level of practice, and each added degree moved the person to a new level.? Jill, I agree that having a degree does not make the nurse with a BSN necessarily better than the ADN with intuition. But logically, wouldn't that same RN who had the intuition be a better RN if they also had more education, and wouldn't the BSN be just as poor an RN if they had attended an ADN program. Infact haven't we all seen many excellent ADN and BSN nurses as well as both ADN and BSN nurses who should not be practicing? Diane, as far as the DNP, this is one change I do support. It is not a move to just add a credential. It is based on the realization by many NPs that the education program for mid-level providers of all types, in general does not have time to adequately prepare NPs for the current health care settings. This is just a method of adding a professional degree, just as the pharmacist, the dentist, and the Physical Therapist have found is becoming necessary. I think as the amount of information required to perform a task expands, the education must also. When I was a Pharmacy Tech in the '70s, there was less than 1/3rd of the medications which are now available to be prescribed. When I was a Nursing assistant in the 70s a cholecystectomy patient spent an average of 7 days in the hospital. The acuity of the health care setting has increased. The level of technology has increased tenfold. Yet RN programs continue to have the same 2 year curriculum they had in the 1960s. They have 10 times the information to impart, but they just try to cram it into the same time period. NPs have realized the need for more time to assimilate the amount of information, so they are testing the option of the DNP. Though I see it being a probability rather than a possibility. moreResolved Question: Does anybody know whether you can do rpn(lpn) diploma via distance learning ?
I am looking for a canadian college that offers lpn (rpn) nursing diploma via distance learning. moreResolved Question: is it good to go for LPN before RN.?
Am about to apply to a technical high school for a DIPLOMA program in LPN(18-24 MONTHS). Is it worth it or do i just apply to a nursing school and become a RN. moreResolved Question: Anyone every went to school for a quick degree/diploma/certificate?
I think I'd like to go to school for either LPN or Massage tech (something that can be completed in a year or less); so that I may have a decent job while going to college for my bachelor's degree in behavioral science. It just seems impossible to support yourself working a job that doesn't require training while going to college. If you have tried/done this before, I'd love your input. I'm really my only means of support, so I don't have the luxury of going to college full time while my parents pay my way. I'm the only one putting a roof over my head and food in my stomach. (not that I'm complaining. I am 22 and not 16.) I just need a better way... Thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: I live in NN, VA and want to go to school for Professional Nursing.Which school is better for me to attend?
I have researched different schools in the area (Sentara School of Nursing, MCI, Riverside School of Nursing and the Thomas Nelson Professional Nursing Program) I can't figure out if one program is better than the other. Also, does anyone know the difference between an LPN and an RN? I was told that RN's do a lot more paperwork. I don't mind paperwork but Iwant to work more with the patient. The programs say that I will finish with an Associate's Degree but an LPN finishes with a Diploma. What is the difference if both Nurses have to go through the state to be licensed? moreResolved Question: what are other nursing jobs that just require high school diploma?ex, LPN,Phlebotomist?

I am currently going to school for my LPN diploma. I've heard losts of things about LPN'S mostly having no luck finding a job in a hospital. I've also looked up reviews and found that most of their jobs are working in Nursing homes because of a lack of job openings in hospitals... that is where i was hoping to work! Is it really that hard for a LPN to find a job in a hospital? I'm near the Atlanta area. Please help! moreResolved Question: Will a positive criminal background prevent me from being accepted into nursung school?
I have been wanting to become an lpn for quite sometime but 2 things have been holding me up. One is that I did not graduate. But Ive been working on my diploma for almost 2 years with Penn Foster and I am almost finished. The second thing was my criminal background. Nine years ago I was charged with a misdemeanor of petty larceny when my sister gave me free milk from a store she worked at. I have never had anything else on my record since this incident when I was 18. Will this be grounds for automatic rejection? I really hate when people respod with rude remarks. To the rude person below,if you wouldve read my post,I said I am getting my DIPLOMA from Penn Foster, not my GED! So please keep rude comments to yourself. To everyone else thanks I will call now and see if I can get that information, and thanks for you guys help. I really hate when people respod with rude remarks. I am trying to find some diffrent grants and loans... any help anyone? moreResolved Question: better career:molecular biology degree or nursing?
I am having a career crisis right now. I have a food science diploma plus 2 years experience. Honestly, I am more interested in health science. So: I am thinking about going back to school to get a degree in molecular biology. With my recent diploma, I only need to study 2 years in the university to grad; but it seems like the job opportunities are limited unless I have master or higher. Is it possible to work in health care? Lab tech don't make much tho. Not sure where can I work. gov't? I also think about going for nursing (LPN and then RN), but this means I have to start over again. LPN first and see if I like it. There are 2 years waiting list unless I go to private college, but then it costs like 20k! Some said it's worth to go to private college, b/c you make a lot more after you grad compare to the 2 yr waiting list in public college. The job is very stressful, but there is always job out there. hmm. I am confused. Need a little opinion. thanx thanx al. My parents were not happy about my decision. They think it's wasting time to start over b/c I already have a "career" ; so I shouldn't get myself into another trouble. One more question: how about RCA type of job? How is the workload? I know it's lower level of LPN. moreResolved Question: does anybody know if you can get your lpn diploma online please let me know? LB?
