Resolved Question: I need a HUGE favor from anyone... Please Help me?

I need to know how many pages this paper is. My Microsoft word is not working, so I am typing it in my email. It needs to be double spaced, font size 12, times, Thank you!! When researching or updating your knowledge on the profession of nursing, The Office of Profession website is a helpful guide. The website updates you with the latest rules, laws, and guidelines in nursing. It can also be useful to view the license requirements, costs, and the necessary applications and forms. The website can be very helpful to registered nurses, practical nurses, and nursing students. As a Licensed Practical Nurse you have many requirements. The Office of Professions provides practical nurses with up to date requirements. As a practical nurse you are required to be at least 17 years old. Education is one of the main requirements for a practical nurse. A practical nurse is expected to either have a high school diploma or GED and have attended at least a 9 month program before getting their license. They are also mandated to take a New York State test on infection control and barrier precautions before licensed. Along with the education requirements an LPN, licensed practical nurse, is required to meet all examination requirements. To meet the examination requirements you must take the NCLEX test and pass. All nurses must represent themselves and their employer with good moral character. As a practical nurse you must meet all requirements. The Office of Professions website provides an LPN with alerts and guidelines. In April 2009, the website alerted nurses about the swine flu. The swine influenza (H1N1) virus causes an illness primarily characterized by fever and upper respiratory symptoms similar to the seasonal flu (http://www.op.nysed.gov/nurse-swineflu2009.htm). In April 28 students in Queens NY were infected with the virus. New York State activated it's health emergency preparedness plan and the State was put on high alert. The article strongly stresses good hygiene and hand washing. Another alert that was posted on the website was about patient abandonment. It was a frequently asked questions article. Patient abandonment is basically when a nurse leaves their facility, operating room, home, or nursing home without reassigning their patients. Refusal to work added hours and refusal to accept an assignment is not patient abandonment. The article shows many examples of what is and what isn't patient abandonment. The alerts and guidelines on The Office of Professions website is not only helpful but reassuring for any nurse. The Office of Professions is designed to help student, employee's and employer aware of the necessary information for their occupation. It has endless amount of information on requirements, regulations, testing, and more. It can be helpful to anyone, a nurse looking to refresh her memory, or a nursing student looking over the requirements. In general, The Office of Professions website clarifies rules, laws, and guidelines. more

Im looking to be have the 68w combat medic mos or if they still offer the 68w m6 (lpn) initial enlistment option still available? I was also curious if any additional bonuses are offered for this mos im not sure how all of it works... I ended up getting my ged instead of my diploma but have finished 38 credit hours in community college and was wondering if that would make me enlist as a higher rank automatically or if i need to make sure its put in my contract... My main reason for joining is for the experience i need in health care and the GI bill also is very appealing just want to make sure that i don't go down to the physical and end up getting talked into a contract im going to regret or overlooking something i could use in the future.. any help would be greatly appreciated thank you more

Resolved Question: What is the demand for licensed practical nurses in Canada.?

I was about to embark on a large amount of academic upgrading in order to apply myself to one school's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. It would be about 1/2 a year (maybe more) of upgrading to get accepted to that program and then another 1/2 a year waiting for my intake. I found another route which makes a bit more sense to me. I could attend a community college and take a two year diploma course to achieve my LPN status. From there, I would have to work in that position for a year in order to apply to a different school to take my bachelor's in Nursing from there. This would be another 2 1/2 years. My only concern is the employability of licensed practical nurses. If I get out with my LPN and then there are no jobs available, I will not be able to continue onto my RN program. Where do LPN's usually find work? Is the pay rewarding? I like option 2 better because this way I would have a year or so in between in which to make money and develop other aspects of my life. Also, As it stands, I do not have to do several thousands of dollars of upgrading to get into the LPN program; I have all of the requesites that I need for that program. more

Resolved Question: What is a good career ??????????????????????

Im 20 yrs old i work in a office but its a part time job and i have bills to pay and im looking to get a second job or a full time good job. So what would be a good career i was looking into going to school for a LPN but im not to sure if it would be a good idea. I am going to school for my GED and probably wont be done with that for a few more months so i was thinking since most jobs you need a GED or HD i have to wait till im done with school but i don't have that kind of time. I was going to do the CNA classes witch you do not need a high school diploma or GED but the shyt is about 550$ and i am living from pay check to pay check. I need something now but i also need to no what would be a good career to get into once i finish school. So would you help and give your opinion on what you think would be good? THanks OH and im not doing porn so please don't suggest that. THANK YOU!!!!!!! more

Resolved Question: Does this sound like a good plan for the situation I'm in regarding going to nursing school?

Ok.First I'm married with 2 kids.My husband had a good job and I stayed home with the kids(they're both in elementary school). When winter approached and the economy slowed down my husband's work did too.I only have a high school diploma and it doesn't seem to mean much these days as far as me finding work.I'm currently taking the CNA class and if I pass my state test and get licensed I plan on putting in job applications so I can work because we need the money. There is a LPN program that will be taking applications in May and if I get accepted there I can start in September '09.I want to be an RN and one school I checked with who has a RN program won't take applications till August and if I get in (after completing the prerequisites) the classes won't start till I think like fall of 2010.I don't want to wait that long before starting nursing school. So I figure if I become a CNA so I can work. Then if I get accepted to the LPN program (and we can make it on my husband's income )I can become a LPN and go to work and then transition later to a RN.The other school I mentioned also has a LPN transition to RN program.Does this sound like a decent plan?Ideally I wish I could just get into a RN program and finish in 2yrs but we need more income so I may have to rotate work and school till I get where I want to be.Also my husband may change careers and I'll need to have a decent job for us to make it for him to be able to go to school. Please no Tom Bosworth answers or anything like that.I know the plan isn't perfect but I need to work to help us financially. It may take me longer than most to get to be an RN but I can't help that right now.I just figure I could take the LPN course(if I get in)sooner(and get a better paying job) rather than wait longer for the RN program. more

Resolved Question: I recently recieved my Diploma as an LPN and was thinking of go back for A.S in Paralegal is this wise?

LPNs are becoming obsolete. They are no longer being hired in Hospitals, which crushed my dreams of working in Pediatrics. I am as far into the Health Field as I would like to go, so do I continues education in nursing or follow in heart into Paralegal? Is this profession worth risking my children's financial security? Or should I just suck it up and continue as an RN, for guaranteed job and financial security? Desperately Looking for Guidance???????? more

Resolved Question: what branch of medicine to go into?

ok so I just finished my patient care tech diploma, and im about to finish my EMT as well. Im also working on getting into LPN school and im just trying to pass my last entrance exam. My question is that i have been looking at a few different program besides LPN such as Paramedic, and histotechnologist, and clinical lab tech. Im Having a problem deciding what to choose. The main thing I like about medicine is diagnostic procedures, the challenge of trying to figure out whats wrong, working with people, and trying to fix the problem to make it better. the fields that interest me most are surgery, OB/GYN, emergency medicine, allergy/immunology, and everything else is pretty intrertesting. the things I absolutely have no interest in are geriatrics, physical/occupational therapy, rehab, and orthopedics.Any suggestions on what I might enjoy the most besides being an RN because that is not an option for me right now. more

Resolved Question: Which career program should I take? (LPN or ECE)?

At this point I am deciding between completing programs in either Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) or Early Childhood Educator (ECE). They are both about one year in length. I can try to be a Registered Nurse later on with the LPN diploma and I understand that LPNs get paid more in my region (west coast Canada). In regards to my educational background, I graduated from college with a 2 year diploma in arts, concentration in social sciences. I have already completed 3 years of university with a major in psychology and minor in business administration. I do not intend to finish this for personal reasons. I have a lot of volunteer experience with children. If you were in my shoes, would you choose the LPN or ECE program and why? more

I contacted the school board and they said i never took the Fcat/ hsct English part and i would have to do that first in order to receive it. after i graduated i moved to NC from FL and now im in pa. Does anyone know where i could go to obtain it? I read online you dont need a diploma to go to a community college. But i want to become a LPN. Will they accept me with no diploma? Resolved Question: RN Diploma?

Hi, I'm a 20 yr old student who wants to switch my career path. I looked online and saw that HolyName School of Nursing is affiliated with the hospital and they offer a RN diploma program and a LPN diploma program. Now with the RN program. 57 credits can transfer over but the LPN cannot. I really have no idea on what to do. I don't want to start from stractch because I just finished my second year at a university and although I have missed registration for nursing school the upcomming academic year, I want to take the necessary courses so they will transfer over. Any advice out there?? Thnx!! more

Resolved Question: What is a hospital based training diploma program for nursing and how does it work? I can't find the info.

I'm looking for one of those programs where the hospital trains you and then you work for them when your training is done. I have not been able to find much information on this, unless I didn't realize I had the answer. Anyhow, if anyone has info on this it would be greatly appreciated. I have already done a good majority of classes needed for nursing (LPN/RN) at college already, getting tired of their timelines though. more

Voting Question: Curious...RN and LPN wage in the U.S./U.K./Australia/Europe/Japan etc.?

I'm in Canada. The wages vary, but in my province, LPNs make $24-$26 per hour (2 year Diploma) and RNs typically make $26-$32 per hour with a new wage increase leading to an annual wage of $80,000+ in the next few years. What do nurses make in other countries?I'm not so sure about RNs, but the lowest LPN wage range I've seen is $17-$19, and the highest was $31-$35.An LPN is sometimes called an LVN in the US... more

Resolved Question: Question for Nurses who are not "people" persons?....?

Please don't take my question the wrong way! Or tell me that my choice of education is an "inappropriate" fit. I am a Pre-Med student who will be obtaining an LPN diploma in the next year so I can work a few shifts a week and still make enough money to pay for university and rent (LPNs in my province are more like diploma RNs and make $26/hr). My issue is, although I give excellent care to the Residents in my current job as a PN student, I know that I think more "like a doctor" and not a nurse. I have a pleasant bedside manner, but other than that, I could never see myself happy as an RN. I think in terms of facts, figures, pathology, data, diagnostics, etc. and have a hard time "making small talk" and providing that nurturing care that nurses often choose the profession for. I treat my Residents extremely well medically with kindness and a smile, but I don't have that "mothering urge". If you are more of a techinical/science person and not a people person...what advice to you have to someone like me in a similar situation? I find myself looking over test results and asking diagnostic questions over just spending time with the patient. For whatever reason, I just don't find the scope of nursing satisfying, but I want to work in healthcare until I can finish my MD and this is the only way I can afford to do it. Help please!P.S. I want to give the best care to my patients as possible, so please, no rude comments or judging if you disagree with my statements. If you saw me at work, you'd have no idea how I feel. I just have no idea how to keep this up and be happy for the next 2 years or so...Steve, thanks, but you seem to have missed that I DO provide reassurance and a friendly disposition to those in my care. I ALWAYS keep in mind that my voice may be the last they hear. I already am working in a nursing environment, and those I work with think I do a great job. My point is that I think I will get burnt out, because I want to help patients from more of a medical aspect than nursing care. I need advice on how to manage for the next couple of years until I (presumably) get into med school. Thanks.Thank you Harley for your advice. more

Resolved Question: what to do before nursing school?

I'm 20 years old and have aspirations of being an RN. I have no medical experience or background. I'm currently in school getting my certificate in CNA and a diploma in LPN. While I'm waiting to get in LPN program, I wanted to work as a CNA. But now I'm having second thoughts. I don't know what I want to. Should I go with phlebotomy, Emt-B, or stay with CNA? I don't want to go into nursing blindly. I want to go in emergency or surgical nursing. more

Resolved Question: Is there too much confusion in current health care education?

Now there are programs where Medical assistants can get a certificate, but also programs where they can get an associate degree. LPN/LVNs also have the certificate/associate degree option. RNs can get a diploma, associate or BSN degree. PAs can currently get an associate, BS or master's degree. How can all of these programs be equal, and why are they all necessary. If an MA has an associate degree but the nurse running the office staff is an LPN with a certificate, how is less education criteria for supervision. Similarly, how can a PA with an associate degree give orders to an RN with a BSN. In hospitals often BSN RNs have ADN supervisors, though many hospitals are now making it necessary to have a BSN to be a supervisor. If it is necessary to have an associate degree to be an LPN how can you be an RN with the same education? Wouldn't it make more sense if there was a set entry for every level of practice, and each added degree moved the person to a new level.?Jill, I agree that having a degree does not make the nurse with a BSN necessarily better than the ADN with intuition. But logically, wouldn't that same RN who had the intuition be a better RN if they also had more education, and wouldn't the BSN be just as poor an RN if they had attended an ADN program. Infact haven't we all seen many excellent ADN and BSN nurses as well as both ADN and BSN nurses who should not be practicing? Diane, as far as the DNP, this is one change I do support. It is not a move to just add a credential. It is based on the realization by many NPs that the education program for mid-level providers of all types, in general does not have time to adequately prepare NPs for the current health care settings. This is just a method of adding a professional degree, just as the pharmacist, the dentist, and the Physical Therapist have found is becoming necessary. I think as the amount of information required to perform a task expands, the education must also. When I was a Pharmacy Tech in the '70s, there was less than 1/3rd of the medications which are now available to be prescribed. When I was a Nursing assistant in the 70s a cholecystectomy patient spent an average of 7 days in the hospital. The acuity of the health care setting has increased. The level of technology has increased tenfold. Yet RN programs continue to have the same 2 year curriculum they had in the 1960s. They have 10 times the information to impart, but they just try to cram it into the same time period. NPs have realized the need for more time to assimilate the amount of information, so they are testing the option of the DNP. Though I see it being a probability rather than a possibility. more
