Resolved Question: How do i go through nursing school online?

Hi! I just graduated high school and have wanted to be a nurse for awhile. I committed to NKU a month ago but feel as if it may not be the best for me and wanted to do an online schooling instead. I ahve been searching around all i can find is LPN to BSN or RN to BSN programs. How do I go through the whole entire process? Can someone help me please. If it helps, I live in Ohio, around the cincinnati area. Thank you! more

Resolved Question: Need some college choices for my 19yr old daughter - how do we decide what she wants to be when she "grows up"?

My daughter graduated High School this year, she was supposed to get into LPN school which was only an 11 month program but would be a "safe" career choice for the time being, she could further her education in whatever career choice she wanted from there, but would always have that as a back up. Though she is very smart, she had poor attendance in school. and though she tested very high she wasn't chosen for the full-time LPN class. Her brother who is in the army and is trying to get her to choose a 4 year college. Finances are a major issue here and what she chooses has to lead to some kind of a decent career move. I sent her, and talked myself to her guidance counselor but it seemed pretty pointless. My daughter came back with answers like "photography" etc - and though she is creative, things like this to me are hobbies not careers. I, myself had gone to talk to a career counselor at Ohio Business College which has 2 year programs and no matter what class I pitched at the counselor she spouted off "35-40k EASY!" - I went home and researched and it would be more like 12 an hour for most. Are all career counselors dishonest and/or commission driven? and do most of the bigger schools charge fees for career planning testing? She is a good girl, doesn't drink, smoke and definitely not a sl**. I don't want her to wind up in the minimum wage loop like I am, she is much too smart for that. How do I get her started in the right direction?lol...while I realize it sounds like I am controlling her, she is looking to me for answers and I don't even know where to begin to point her on this kind of decision. I am actually trying to "push" her to spread her wings - but I don't mind her residing here while she gets on track.oh and my son is in the service and that was suggested to her before but both she and her brother agree that she is "too much of a pacifist". more

Voting Question: Am I being selfish by leaving?

Me and my bf have been together for 5 years, have lived out of state for 2 years because he got a job promotion. Things have never really been great, lets just say that. He has done some really horrible crap to me, no cheating or anything, but just mean things... like being angry because I don't want him to do anal on me, and telling me to leave the room so he can masturbate to porn, calling me names when he gets angry... He does have good in him though. He makes sure that I am taken care of, he pays most of the bills, takes me out to eat... but the thing is that when we moved I started to feel isolated, and when we started to argue I felt like he had the upper hand and that he was taking advantage of how I was vulnerable. We have just hurt each other a lot... I have called names back, been violent to him, said hurtful things. I just got to thinking... Is this the guy that I want to be with forever? We have just said and done so much to each other that I have been worn down... to the point that I don't even want to try anymore. The thing is that I am a student, and I applied to the RN program here and didn't get accepted. I applied to the LPN program back home and did get in. It starts in January, and I told him I wanted to go for 22 months to get my degree. He got really upset about it. I told him that he got an opportunity here, and I supported him, now I have an opportunity and he should support me. He is getting used to the idea now. It is just that I do love him, but I also want to go and live a single life... he is only my second boyfriend and I am 23 now have been with him since I was 18 and he was 23. I have tried to forgive him, but the thing is that we have never really talked anything out, so there are a ton of unresolved feelings... I try to tell him this thinking he might feel the same, but he doesn't want to discuss anything and gets angry at times when I try to talk to him about the situation. I want to go to school and live a life that I never got to live.... And the other thing is that I just don't feel like I am strong enough to live away from my family... I have a huge family and they are my support system. His family is small and has always lived far away from one another... I don't think I am ready to be away from them, but then I feel selfish for leaving him too! I just want some neutral advice... Am I being selfish for using school as an excuse? The other thing is that we both wanted to move back to Ohio since we got to Va, and he always said that when I got my RN we would go back... Here recently he has been saying that he wants to be at his job for another 5 years before we move. It only takes 2 years for a nursing degree... he knows how much I dislike it here and I have told him that I want to leave when I get my degree and he has said, "I guess we will be parting ways then"... so we want different things now and it is a conflict... UGH! more

Resolved Question: Am I being selfish to move away from my boyfriend of 5 years for a schooling opportunity?

We have been living together for 5 years now and we moved 2 years ago to another state 10 hours away from all my family :( He got a job promotion, and I decided to come with him. Well, I am a prospective nursing student and for the last 3.5 years I have been working my buns off to get all my pre classes out of the way. The move set me back a bit, and before we moved (about 4 months) we had a conversation about me quitting my full time job so that I can get a part time job to go to school full time. When we moved here, the cost of living was a little higher and I think that it maybe got to him ,but he started pressuring me to get a full time job, he was really mean about it (he did not want me to quit school). I tired it, but I could not juggle both so now I am working part time again. The only bad thing is that here in VA Beach, I go to a community college that offered a nursing program that is full time from 8-5pm. There is not way that I can hold a job at all if I did that. I have explained that to him to get his feedback and he has said he will get a second job, and to me that is out of the question. I just don't want to be pressured like last time, it made me feel so low. And with all the arguments we have been having lately, I don't want to have to depend on him to support me. I have been trying to find an LPN program, or another RN program that has night and weekend hours and for months I have been searching with no luck. Back home, my old community college offers a LPN program that is from 5-10 pm, so I would still be able to work. It is 22 months long, and I have mentioned to him that I want to go. I can live with my parents until I am done. All he thinks about is me leaving, and he really doesn't seem to show that he understands where I am coming from, even though I have expressed my feelings many times. We both don't like it here, and want to move back to Ohio when I get my degree. Our lease is up in Feb, and classes start in January. I told him that when the lease is up, to look for a job there. He acts like he doesn't want to be away from me, and if he hates it so much why doesn't he come with me? I understand where he is coming from, but this place is not feasible for me to get an education... how can I when I can't hold a job while going through the program? It seems like he is thinking of himself more than me, but I am worried that I am being selfish by leaving???? more

Voting Question: Is it selfish of me to want to take a break? This is why:?

I have been with my boyfriend for 5 years now and we recently moved to Virginia from Ohio. We have hit a few rocky spots in the road. We had been arguing for some time because he would want to hang out with friends for all hours of the night. The thing was that he was drinking and driving. It was disrespectful to me too that he would come home at 2am or 3am every single time he went out, and he knew that but he did nothing to curtail it. Come home drunk as a skunk mostly every time. Every time he hung out with them and had me worrying when he didn't come home I would cry, and it drove a serious wedge between us. There were times we would yell and scream at each other... he would call me a dumb bit*h or cun*, I would call him a bi*ch back, and I guess that is the one thing guys hate to be called!!! I even told him I wish he died :( I cried and apologized to him, but I didn't get the same apology or even remotely similar to him. I just got to feel that he felt because he was financially supporting me that I shouldn't have a care or concern about him and that is not true. Well, my worst fears came true when he got pulled over and charged with a DUI. He was doing SO good and hadn't hung out with friends for almost a month. It broke my heart that he would be so irresopnisble. Only this time I don't think I have the strength to be there for him when I felt so many times that he wasn't there for me. I am to start nursing school in 2 months, and I will not be able to work. Since we have been having these issues, although he is wanting to work it out and yes, he is really really really trying.... But since we have been having these issues I have been feeling like I don't want to depend on him anymore. What if I can't work during nursing school? Classes are from 8am-4pm. Work nights? And then have no time to study? I know many people do work through school, but than again many people don't. I get stressed easily, and he has told me he will support me... but I don't want him to because of the issues we have been having. I don't want to put myself in that sort of situation. I want to go back to Ohio so that I can get my LPN (here I am working towards rn). But class there for the LPN is 5-10pm, so I could work. They don't have an LPN program here, trust me I have looked everywhere, and I am not going to go to MCI and pay 20 grand for it either. I have told him that this is strictly for my school, and for us. I love him so much and I even offered to send him some money back monthly and to come and see him whenever I could. He doesn't want anything to do with it though. I think he things that if I leave I am gone due to the problems we have been having... how do I make him see that it is just a small break, and for the best? more

Resolved Question: How hard in ohio is it to find work as a certified medical assistant?

I was, or am considering going to school to become a medical assistant. While speaking to my WIA "helper" at Job and Family services about possible $ aid ( I am laid off from my former employer) I was told their is not a need for them in our area. I live North of Dayton in a smaller community. I cannot believe all of the schools offering this program, if there are no jobs. Are any of them working? What can I go into besides LPN that will get me a job, without a ton of school? Any opinions would be great. Thank you for your time, have a great day! more

Resolved Question: Leaving 5 year relationship, and don't have a place for my 2 cats....?

I have 2 cats, and they have been together all their lives. They are 3 &4. They will not do good separated, this I know. I will NOT leave them with him because once when I was going to leave before he told me I need to take the cats, or he will throw them to the street, or to some shelter (where the will most likely get euthanized). I could not bare the thought of that. No one in my family can help either. My mom is allergic, my dad has cats of his own (who have claws and go outside, mine are declawed and are fat house cats)... My cousin offered to help, but the cats could be at her house for more than 2 years... I am coming back to Ohio to join the LPN program in August... it is 22 months long, and I will be working part time, so I can't have an apartment. I would not obligate her to that! And she understood. All of my other friends have allergies too, or kids (young kids), and my cats don't like kids. I heard someone suggest craigslist, but I don't think you can post on craigs list for pets. I just don't want them to eb killed at some shelter. Honestly, I wish I could find some temporary adoptive family so that when I do become an LPN, I could get them back. Appreciate any suggestions. Im in Ohio BTW. more

Resolved Question: Starting a career as a lpn?

I am 21 and have my GED I have 2 kids and stay at home. I always wanted a job in the nursing field. I live in Columbus Ohio. What I want to know is where to begin. I have been out of high school since 2002. I know look at colleges but all the stuff is sooo confusing. Like most of the nursing schools around me that I found gives you a list of all the classes you need to take before you can even apply to get in. Also I have searched the web alot and have seen lpn certificate programs are these the same thing as going to a nursing school. I would like to do some of my studying online if at all possible I know I would need lab time and all that. So if anyone could give me some advice on where and how to get started it would be greatly appreciated more

Resolved Question: Does anyone have any information related to nursing in Ohio?

I am in high school currently involved in a mentorship program where I have to write a research paper on the profession I am interested in, nursing. I live in Ohio, I know that sometimes qualifications differ between the states. I need to know the different educational requirments, such as how long you need to go to college for each degree (LPN, RPN, NP) and what the highest job in nursing. I also need to be able to tell the differences between them and what each entails for one to do on the worksite. I need to know an approximate pay range and starting rates. I need to know the benefits that the employees have. If one might need a special license or certificate, what other jobs could one qualify for with their experience, how secure it is, advancement details, high school courses that could prepare one for a job like this, any of this information would be very helpful. If you have an input as to your likes and dislikes of the job I could also use that. Thanks in advance more

Resolved Question: What should I look for in a nursing program?

I am thinking about entering a program for LPN in my town. This is what it says on their website, "The Robert T. White School of Practical Nursing is conditionally approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing and the State of Ohio Department of Education. The Program is accredited by the North Central Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement." Does this qualify as a good nursing school? What should I look for in one? Also, what is an average tuition for one of these programs?Well, the school has only been open for two years and as far as the passing rate of the LPN test is concerned, I'd have to find that out. What does "conditionally accredited" mean? I mean, how can you be conditionally accredited? Doesn't make sense to me.I received a response from this school the other day. They are not "conditionally" accredited anymore. They received their full accredation in July of this year. Out of their 26 students that took the LPN exams this year.. all 26 passed!! So I guess that is good news! more
