Lpn Technical Schools Questions asked

Voting Question: Is a LPN a good job to get into to?

I'm at a college for the time being. But i hate the fact that it takes 4 years to finish . And on top of that i don't think ill be able to pass some of the class which will put me and more behind. However a friend of mine told me about going to a Technical school to become a LPN . It only take about a year and they make good money and then if i wanted to later down the road go and be an rn. So Should i become an LPN ? more

Resolved Question: Which route should I take?

Hi Everyone! I would like some help and would appreciate your input. I have been trying to get into the Lpn program at this school Called Atlantic Technical in Broward County, Florida. It is a public school and the tuition is approximately four thousand dollar, which is great compared to one of those private schools (15- 20 thousand) I've been trying for about a year to get into the program.. so I finally finished my entry packet for August of 2010 and they are now telling me that all 48 spots have been filled.. I was devastated. I am a single mom of two kids and this is something I really want to do. I was planning on getting my lpn certificate then continuing to get my BSN and see how far I can climb the ladder. I really dont want to wait for the next term because I feel like I am wasting time. We are in February and I need to be productive. I'm going to be 29 in April and want to be able to provide for my kids especially before they get to be teenagers(they are 3 & 6) Can somebody please lead me to the right direction. What should I do? Should I just go to o ne of those private school and just get an associate in nursing which will take 2 years or should I just try something different that is just as good? I am open to any suggestions. Thank you so much for reading my post.Have a blessed day!! Winnie more

Resolved Question: Should I go for nursing or culinary arts?

I'm currently a CNA at a nursing home and get paid a decent amount, but I'm going to a Community and Technical College. I applied for the LPN and RN programs at the tech school, but I really like culinary arts which is also a program at the tech school. I want to be smart in my decision so I feel like I should stick with nursing, but I would love to learn to cook and maybe start my own restaurant. I'm so unsure of what to do. Any opinions? more

Resolved Question: Best way to earn an LPN degree?

I graduated a few years ago with a bachelors of science and decided not to apply for graduate school and start working in my field (well, not really my field. But working nonetheless!). My husband recently joined the Navy as an officer which means we'll be moving around the US every few years. I've decided to make a career change and am having trouble finding some information. I know two year nursing (R.N) programs are VERY competitive- I thought it may be better for me to earn an LPN degree first and then work on my R.N. Can someone explain where I can do this program- besides just a community college? Are there technical schools? How do I get in? And what's a break down of the admission process. I plan on doing my pre-requisites over because it's been three years since my advanced chem/bio/math courses. And also doing volunteer work and earning the CNA certification. Thanks Thanks for the helpthanks emily- but if I want an RN I'm going to have to re-do because they'll be 4-5 years old at that point. Most RN programs like current pre-req's. more

Resolved Question: How many years until I become a Registered Nurse?

If I complete a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program my junior year in high school then I complete a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program my senior year in high school how many years will it take me to become a Registered Nurse (RN)? I attend a technical school that offers these classes. more

Resolved Question: HOW TO BECOME A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT IN SEATTLE?

I have just finished up all my college prerequisites for PA school and am planning on applying to UW and going to Yakima, WA campus to do the Bachelors program. Now I was wondering, if anyone can advise me ON what is the best experience to gather for the patient-care part of the PA program. Medical Assistant, LPN, RN or CNA etc- Which Area will make me stick out when I apply and what kind of patient experience should I gather from any of these kind of entry programs without spending to much time or money on the technical course? I have heard surgical technicians have a better chance to getting into PA school, is this true? Any recent graduated physician assistants that have any advise? more

Resolved Question: Nursing? Semi-Late in life career change?

I have one child (2 yr old son) and one on the way (13 weeks along). I'm a stay at home mom currently, with my husband working 40 hr weeks swing shift (4-12pm). I do have family that can help watch my son (and 2nd child when he/she arrives). Ive been doing reading into Nursing carriers. As far as I understand, the levels of degrees go something like this: 1. Get a LPN or LVN at a hospital, vocational technical school, or community college (takes about 1 year or so to complete?) 2. Then a LPN-to-ASN degree [Associate of Science in Nursing] (take about 2 years after my LPN or LNV). That would put me eligible to apply for nursing license, and take the NCLEX (allowing application to entry-level nursing jobs). If I want to continue after that I would go like this: 3. A RN-to-BSN degree [Bachelor of Science in Nursing] (another 2 yrs?) 4. Then a RN-to-MSN [Master of Science in Nursing] (again 2 years I think?) specialize in a particular area of nursing. 5. A CNP (Certified Nurse Practitioner) (2ish years again?) Only thing after that would be a Doctorate. 2 Questions. 1. Do I have that right? Is there something I missed? a Certification or other qualification or degree that I would need along the way? 2. I will be pregnant, then a mother of a newborn, not to mention the mother of a toddler while going through this. My husband has to keep working to keep us afloat... How hard is this going to be and what can I do to ease the difficulty? Any advice, Comments, or Good story's... any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!I'm not looking to work or study from home. more

Voting Question: Should I pursue a BSN if I have a BHA already?

Resolved Question: Why doesn't my family approve of me wanting to get a masters degree?

it makes me so mad im talking about wanting to go to college for pre medicine and they are telling me it will cost too much money and it is a bad idea. first i want to get my lpn so i have a decent job while in college. My family keeps saying its better just to go to a technical school but i know i want to succeed and make really good money when im older and have an amazing career. now i am having second thoughts about making it through college. is it really that bad and impossible to get a masters degree? i am so worried about thisim not sure what i want to end up doing yet all i know is i want to get a master's degree in the health care field and go to college first for pre medicine. Even though im not sure right NOW i just dont understand why my family doesn't support me i mean aren't most parents happy if you want to make something out of yourself.. i dont get it more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know about the WIA grant?

I am trying to find out if I can get the WIA grant for school in Georgia. I know my school offers it, and I have applied, I just want to know what the income limits are. I can't find anything on the internet. I am going to school for LPN and this quarter is going to be pretty expensive, as we are now starting clinicals and I must buy the uniform, and books and everything else. If it helps, I am going to a Technical College, and my income is about 14,000-18,000 per year. I do not qualify for Pell because my last year's income was more than this. But on the application for this, it just asked me how much income I received in the past 6 months, which I am guessing they will then multiply by 2 to get the year's income. Any help would be greatly appreciated! The sooner I know, the sooner I can budget my expenses. more

Resolved Question: Med Techs: Do you get insulted when people think you are a nurse or just a phlebotomist?

Where I work, we all wear scrubs and our hospital name tags. We don't wear our lab coats out of the lab due to contamination issues. So when we're out of the lab (the rare time others DO actually see us) people assume we're nurses. To me, it's kind of annoying considering that 1) I have more technical and analytical knowledge than that and 2) In terms of LVN's or LPN's, and phlebotomists, I have more school than that as well. So does it bother you to be called a nurse or a phlebotomist?Brandon..I didn't mean it that way. Phlebotomists don't get the credit they deserve. But I was making the statement of med techs in comparison to phlebotomists. Med techs *do* have more school and technical skills than *just* a phlebotomist. more

Resolved Question: What is a "professional school" according to federal student aid?

Am applying to several technical college LVN/LPN programs and am curious if these would meet the criteria for being "professional" schools according to federal financial aid criteria. Considering they are not junior colleges or four year colleges, and they are instructing students only to do certain things, I would think (and hope) that they would be considered professional schools. In what I've been reading, the professional schools are listed alongside graduate schools on the federal student loan websites I've been visiting. As graduate schools are what award masters and doctorates and the like, it leads me to believe that professional schools would be those that award professional licenses (such as LVN/LPN, RN, et cetera). more

Resolved Question: I want to become an LPN. Is going to a technical college a bad choice?

I am 25 years old. I have always wanted to be a nurse and currently work as a CNA. Anyways, I have unsuccessfully tried community college twice. So I realllly don't want to go back. I am thinking about going to a school called MCI. It's your basic tech training school. Over priced but fast. I know I would pay a lot more money but I just need to get in school now and get it over with. I would get a certificate and would have to go back to com. college to get my associates I guess. But it's bad times and I really need to get into a field that pays more than the peanuts I make. Plus this school is geared to helping you pass the NCLEX test. SO....are tech schools worth it??? And is it really acceptable to just have a certificate and not an AS degree in nursing?? PLEASE HELP!!! more

Resolved Question: TEAS Test for nursing school (LPN)?

Your Question Are all TEAS test the same? I was exempt from the first TABE test. Now, I have to take the TEAS test to get into the LPN program. Whats the best source of study? Resolved Question: Advice..Thinking about Becoming an RN?

Hi. I am currently a senior in high school, and I will graduate soon. For a long while, I have been considering what it is that I would like to study in college. I have come to the conclusion that becoming an RN is something that I would love to do. I am seriously thinking about pursuing a "Associates of Applied Science in Nursing" degree. http://www.tn.regentsdegrees.org/aasn/ There is only one university that offers that degree program in my area. While I have considered becoming an LPN through the completion of a 1-Year program at a nearby technical school, I think that it would be best for me to just go ahead and earn my Associates Degree, since it will only take me two years to complete. Does this sound like a good idea? I have been placing great emphasis on my English and Foreign Language (Spanish) studies, and my academic background in the area of Mathematics and Science is somewhat limited. (My school did not have the best teachers for Mathematics and Science, unfortunately.) ; ( However, I have always been an ambitious, eager, and willing student. I know somebody who is completing this program, so that is, also, serving as an inspiration for me to aspire to better myself. Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: if you're an LPN or RN please!?

I'm going to be going to school for an LPN this august either at a community college or a technical school, and I want to know if you're an LPN or RN how much do you make and how long have you been on the job? People are telling me that LPN's make from $15-$20/hr. and RN's make $20-$40/hr. I live in Panama City so Im not sure if it varies by the area. I just want something that will be constant & a good paying job. THANKS more

Resolved Question: Please help me. I can't decide what to do in the medical field. Can you help?

I want to get into the medical field and I can't decide which route to take. I am trying to decide between a 44wk LPN course at a technical school and a 2 year Diagnostic Medical Sonographer course at the community college. I am 27 years old with a husband and son. I have to work while in school to make ends meet. The Technical school would be 8am-3pm monday thru friday. I would work late evenings or overnight. The community college varies. I would have to pay out of pocket for the tech school $7,000, which I would start off using my financial aid refund I am getting from my current college enrollment. Then the rest I would have to get by working. The community college would give me financial aid. I want to get in the field soon, but I don't want to take a short cut and regret it. What should I do?I researched both and I am really interested in both of them more

Voting Question: To get a Masters or Become an LPN/RN?

Here's the story I started my undergrad degree as a pre-nursing student for a BSN program. I was placed on a waiting list and got discouraged and changed my major to Health Science. I graduated with the Health Science degree with no jobs available. Now I am trying to decide if I should go back to Nursing at the local technical school or get my Masters in Education were I got my Bachelor Degree? I do not know why my heart is telling me to go back and try nursing but then I am afraid of it not working out and wishing I had of went back for my Masters. What would you do if you had prenursing classes done although they are about 4-5 years old but would be accepted at the local schools for nursing? Would you get into a nursing program using those classes or take the classes over and do nursing or would you move on and get a Masters in something else like Education? Thanks for responding everyone. I am basically afraid that my pre-nursing courses like a&p1/2, micro, etc from 4 years ago is not as fresh in my mind today as it was 4 years ago. Therefore, I am conflicted with trying to try nursing again or just move on with a masters in teaching. more

Resolved Question: I need advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation or who has known some one who has?

I have lived with my boyfriend for akmost 4 years and we just moved from Ohio to Virginia about 11 months ago. Before the move everything was not great really. We have hardly been one of those couples who are lovey dovey. We fight a lot about almost everything. I am 22 and he is 26 so it may be the age difference. Also I come from a bigger family but they are not that well off. I have to pay for all of my schooling and they can't offer any assistance. His family is rather small and they consist of his mom who lives in Texas, and his aunt and uncle and 2 cousins who live in Ohio. His family are pretty well off. They were able to help us in our apartments because his credit is not too good and plus we don't generate enough of an income that looks good on paper when filling out the stuff for the apartments. He has on a few occasions during the heat of the battle told me that my family are losers because they can't offer any money to us if we need it, or offer any type of assistance any other way. It hurts me but it is true, they can't offer any assistance but I still love them, but he does not understand why I defend them so much when he says stuff like that. He also makes more money than me but it has not always been like that. For about a year or so we were making the same amount. For about 2 or 3 years he has made anywhere from 3-7 dollars more than me. He often tells me (also during the heat of the battle) that he is the bread winner and that I should not cause arguments and I should pick my battles. Things that I have argued about that have led to the verbally abusive explosions have been things about me not wanting to have anal sex, me getting pissed off if we go out to a bar or resturant and he calls the bartender/waitress honey, sweetie, or baby (and it is not in a way that someone does it who just is that way, it is sort of flirty), if I dont want to have sex, about him smoking pot, about my friends (I have none because he finds fault in all of them. He wants me to have friends with money and connections. He has talked about them so bad that I feel like I am choosing between him or them if I defend them or want to hang with them), also about my past job that I had. I did not have many responsibilities and he did manual labor and he felt like he should be the one who deserves the job like I had. I am a nursing student and the schedule can be very demanding. He has said it is a low life job and he is right but it just sucks to hear him say it like I am a loser. So I recently went out and did research on schools back in Ohio. I found an LPN school because all RN schools have a 2 years wait. There were no schools in VA for LPN (if I wanted to pay 20grand at some technical school). So I told him that I was going back for my edducation for 21 months so that he could no longer harass me about my job. He wants me to get another job that is more challanging even if I make less. He told me he would respect me if I was a manager at McDonalds vs. my recent job of a bank teller. So everything was good for like 2 months and he was cool with me going but them like a week before I was supposed to go he started crying and freaking out. So I said I would stay. But them we had gotten into a few other fights and he has called me a bi*ch, cun*, loser, fatass, he even told me he made out with "a big ti**y bi*ch from alabama and wished he would have fuc*ed the shit out of her". This was in response to me not wanting to do anal sex after I told him that I would. I told him I would because I was trying to work it out with us but he was making me feel like anal sex was the only way for him to be happy. He said that he has had 3 other girlfriends who have done that for him and I don't love him because I don't give all of me to him. But he does not turn me on I have really no desire. He does not tellme I am beautiful or anything and he is really demanding and does not make it a intimate experience. I keep telling myself that maybe I should just give in but I cant when the time comes down to it. When I went to stay with my friend after the big fight when he told me about kissing another person at the airport he was demanding that I leave saying he does not want me. When I left he starting calling and texting me every 15 minutes saying how sorry he was and how much he knows he will never find antoher like me. So like an idiot I went back, and then his story cahnged from him making out with the lady to her kissing him out of no where. He also told me he was smoking crystal a few years ago when we first moved in together when he went back down to Texas to pick up our furniture. He made the trip back from TX to OH in 2 days... That was during the heat of the battle and when I came back he said he was lying. He also said he made out with someone there too and then cahnged the story. I want to leave but I feel like there is good in him... HELP more

Will my loans "carry over" when i go to the technical school, or will i have to start paying them off in 6 months (because it's not a university)? I know all loans are different, but does anybody have some general experience with this? I'm going to call them this weekend, but i can't do anything for a few days, and i HAVE to know, it's killing me! more

Resolved Question: What classes could I take at a local technical college to prepare for Audio Engineering Degree?

I'm currently attending a local tech school for getting my LPN. While on the waiting list I intend on taking pre-classes to help me in the future for Audio Engineering when the time comes. Does anyone have any advice in which classes to take.. maybe so ones that will count for transfering to a recording school? Thanks so much to anyone that can help! more

Resolved Question: Medical Coding...?

I need some advice. I have been working in the health care field for a while now, a couple of years, I'm in my early twenties, and I can't decide what to go to school for. I got accepted into a technical school for LPN but I got so burnt out on the 'hands on' side of nursing that I'm so afraid it will happen again. I don't want to go to school and work for a few years and then get burnt out. So I was considering going to school for medical coding for many reasons, mostly no direct patient care, and its still in the health care field. I love to read, write and I have excellent computer skills and I was also majoring in Surgical Technology at one point in time so my medical terminology is very extensive, especially in surgery. Would any of these benefit me in coding? If I were to become a certified coder, I most definitely want to return to school for a bachelor degree of some sort. I want to enjoy my career but also not be poor for the rest of my life! what should I do? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Attn All Registered Nurses!! Is it hard to be a registered nurse?

My older sister has been an LPN for over 20yrs ...My family constantly ask her why she hasnt become an RN.Her answer is"Shes not smart enough to be a nurse".Do you have to have something academically to succeed. My sister is the only one out of the three of us to graduate with an hs diploma.me and my younger sister we have g.e.d certificates...im not ashamed at all ...i just wasnt a school kind of person...but i am caring and giving...but is that enough?i hear how hard nursing school is and being a nurse is too technical....so mostly ppl who were making good graded in hs....usually succeed! They say the ones who are not book smart...should try cna...medical assistant ...even lpn..... more

Resolved Question: Questions about Nursing????

I have a whole bunch of questions about nursing. I'm 22 and have been thinking about becoming a nurse. First I wanted to know which path should I take? Should i just go and get a LPN cetifacte and call it a day, or should i go for the Assocaites Degree and then move up to an Rn. Next should i look for a technical school or a college?? Plus does anyone recommend any sites that would show schools with nursing programs and what not. Thanks in advance, theres just so much out there. more

Resolved Question: LPN or RN?

I am currently trying to decide whether to get my LPN or RN. I just moved to Sarasota, FL and the community college here has a waiting list for the RN program...so basically the soonest I would be able to begin the program would be Fall 2008 even though I have already completed ALL of the prerequisite classes at another community college in Jacksonville. The technical school here offers a one year LPN program which I could start in August this year...plus they have night classes which is VERY important since I have a two year old and no family here to care for her....and daycare is sooo expensive when you only have one income. I'm just confused because I have heard that it's not worth it to get your LPN then go on to RN because RNs make so much more. Also since I have taken the time to take ALL the prereqs for the RN program, it's kind of annoying to have to wait over a year to start it. I know either way that my goal is to be a RN, I just can't decide which route to take. more
