What is the different between a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN/AAS/ASN) in their career setting? People have been telling me both LPN and ADN (associate degree nureses) are being phased out so I dont know what else to do. I have a bachelor's in psychology and people tell me I should do the accelerated program but the only one I know where I lived (in NW oregon) is at OHSU which is like $40,000 and I don't know how I would pay for it. Would maybe a 2 year medical lab tech degree be the best route or...?I wanted to work with kids, but I went to one interview and the kids were kicking and cursing and I got scared and left crying, and pretty much never looked back. Anyways, the pay was like $10 an hour. I make like $14 now at my current non-degree related job. moreResolved Question: Transitioning to nursing career?
Hello, I am an engineering school graduate with a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering. After not finding a good job, I am considering to go for nursing. I am coming from a non biology or non chemistry background. how much time and money should I expect to invest in next two years? What could be the best way for me to approach this field of studies? Hi, I am currently waiting to start school in the spring. I am going to be doing a CNA class to get Certified .. then eventually Registered. Hoping to knock out of pre-reqs for the Nursing Programs in Washington State .... I am hoping to next year (winter) to get into a ADN program at any of the local community colleges ... getting my LPN, first year, then RN second year. If my plan goes as I hope it does, or even takes longer than that, cause the program is full ... what steps do I take afterwards to become a RN, that works with OBGYN or the L & D Ward at Hospitals. I know I have to have 1 to 2 years of experience, so that would be the first step getting a job as a RN ... first .. but what steps can i take to help me advance and get more experience ... (any advice or tips would be awesome) .... oh on another note ... if anyone knwos what YWAM is, I can do my DTS this summer for 6 months ... and then next July 2011 .. go and do a BAS, which is a Birthing Attendant School, where for a year, I learn midwifery curriculum and go into the field of third world courntries and work with young mothers for womens health and care and education and pregnant women, and actually get to put my skills to practice and deliver babies and offer pre-natal and post natal care ... I am excited at the chance to maybe do this ... would this help me out that much more when it comes to this??? I would be getting my CNA first .. but probably wouldn't be able to get my LPN .... so good idea or bad?? Thanks in advance everyone .. idiotic answers just for points will be ignored ...I did a little more research ... and I need my ADN, then my BSN ... and possibly I could do a Hospital Diploma in lieu or on top of both degrees .... Generally about how much on average will my Associates then Bachelors cost. moreResolved Question: LPN TO RN QUESTIONS (POINTS?

I see alot of schools offering the lpn to RN program but this doesn't come with a bachelors. Then I would have to go back to school in a RN to BSN program. but a BSN is just a associates in science and a associates in nursing right? so what happens if i already have one part (associate in science) and a LPN license. what steps would i have to take from there? and how long would it take for me get my BSN? does having an associates in science and an LPN license give me an associates in nursing? Okay so here is the deal. I am 23 years old and have been jumping around colleges for the past three years due to being married to a full-time soldier. I went from Missouri to Nebraska. The three years of study I have under my belt were geared towards pharmacy or med school. I have taken a year off and am not ready to dive back in and get my degree. This time I leaning towards nursing since I worked in the Emergency Room in Missouri and loved it as a tech. Let's cut to the chase. I know I want to become a nurse and I am looking at accelerated BSN degrees. My main question is, what is the smartest way for me to do this? I see there are ASN degree opportunities...LPN... RN...BSN...and I am really confused as to what the difference is between an ASN, LPN, and RN are.... ? So ever since i was young i wanted to be in the medical field. And ever since my cousins passed away which would be this week i finally decided i wanted to be a nurse. I want to start college early since I'm only 15 and graduating hopefully by the end of this year or next year because i take online classes and i guess you could say I'm smart. I've been looking up to become a CRNA. But i wanted to take some classes close to home before i leave for USC or a better college. So i would be attending MCC. The Programs they offer are Allied Health Nursing - 2 year ADN and the outcome would be i would have my degree in RN. But if i took Allied Health Nursing - 1 year would result in becoming a LPN. which sounds better to do. I really want to become a CRNA which degree would give me more potential in becoming a CRNA. Thanks for everything ! moreResolved Question: Should i go back to college?
im going to try to keep it short, so forgive me if it runs together. i started college when i was 17. i went for about 2 years, had a son, went back, found out i was pregnant, and stopped again to have my 2nd son. after my 2nd son i went part time for 2 years and full time for 1. i was/ am going for nursing. i failed a class by 3 points which put me out of the ADN program. after that we lost our house and i was diagnosed with cervical caner. i had surgery to take care of it. we have had the car repoed. i just had another scare with a growth in my mouth, thought it was cancer. i had that removed and further tests shows that it wasnt cancer and a recent pap smear says that the cervical cancer hasnt come back. so now we are renting a place and my husband is working a full time job. we just bought a van. i have my oldest son in school and my youngest at home. i am trying to decide if i should try to go back to school, i am 4 classes away from becoming an LPN. but my worry now is my kids. i have someone that says that they will get my son from the bus stop everyday, and keep my youngest as well. but im concerned about their comitment to that. im scared that if i start back they will not keep their comitment and i will have to quit AGAIN!! i want to go back and finish but i wonder if now is the right time, but then again will there always be something to make me say that now isnt the right time. PLEASE help me decide what to do. Okay you started out a nursing major and got all the pre-nursing courses done but switch to health science since you did not get in nursing on your first try. You graduated with a Bachelor in Health Science but it is basically useless as far as finding a job goes. Your Prenursing classes are about 4 to 5 years old. You have very little job experience. Would you go to a tech school and get certified in some medical area or do the lpn or adn route since most of those pre classes are already done but old or would you just move forward and get your masters in teaching? moreResolved Question: What would you do stay in the Health field or do Teaching?

Im confused... because I was told the ADN is an Associates Degree in Nursing (usually takes about 2 years) and BSN is a Bachelors in Science Degree in Nursing (takes about 4 years and needs to be completed in a university) but i was also told that they are RN programs. I want to be come a LPN because i know RN's need to be good at Chemistry and math while LPN's the highest math you do is Algebra 2. I can still get my associates degree in becoming a licensed practitional nurse right? i will be attending a community college this spring and i wanted to take the LPN program which i will hopefully accomplish in as little as 2 years 3 at the most.. can anyone give me some info. any answer will be deeply appreciated.i heard that if you want to become an LPN you just get a certificate. is that true? In December, I will graduate with a BS in Kinesiology from a four year university. I have ruled out going to PT or OT school mainly because A)they are pretty costly and lengthy and B) my overall GPA is not strong enough. Having taken many science-related courses during my education, I have many of the pre-reqs for most ADN or BSN programs. Which would be a better approach in terms of being the fastest, most cost-effective way to becoming an RN (or even starting out as an LPN)? I am a 25 year old mother of three looking to become a nurse, I would like to go the LPN way first because from what I've read, it only takes two years. I have a few questions and appreciate any advice. Is there any way this degree can be done online except for clinicals? What are some good schools in the south central PA area for nursing, and how much do they cost? What are the differences in education requirements for LPN, LVN and ADN? I've heard the LVN requires only one year? Is this true and where is this offered? Also, I have some college credits from around 2001, just general courses, how hard would these be to transfer, if even possible? Thanks, I really appreciate any advice. moreResolved Question: is there an Associate Degree Nursing fadeout?
I'm currently in a school that has ADN and BSN program. My school and my friends in the school are telling me that the U.S. is doing a fadeout of the LPN/ADN and slowly changing it up to BSN. My school kept encouraging me to switch to BSN. But by switching programs, I'll be in school longer and take more classes. Is it really true that an ADN phase out is currently being taken on effect and maybe I SHOULD move to BSN? i am really confused about this whole getting into nursing school thing. i really want to be an RN, and eventually a CRNA or NP. but the whole waiting around on a list doesn't really sound to great for me, i was thinking of just getting a occupational certificate to be a EMT, then wait around for nursing school but i feel like i have downgraded my self before i have even had the chance to start, and the school has closed the LPN/LVN program for spring 09 already and it got can celled for the summer....i don't know what to do...please help p.s. i am a male, and there are no diploma programs in houston moreResolved Question: I've heard that as an RN student at some point you can take your state board to become an LPN, is this true?
I am a third semester RN student in an ADN program. I have taken all prereq's and sciences, as well as done my geriatric, and med surg 1 clinical. I am currently in my psych and med surg 2 rotation. If it is not true does anyone know if you can transfer into an LPN program and if so how much time I would have left? (I am moving to Canada so in order to be an RN in Ontario i need a bachelors. I'd rather have a good paying job while i work toward that!) moreResolved Question: Online Nursing Degree.. Help?!\?
I am an LPN student at the moment and I recently signed up for an do-it-yourself LPN to ADN program. It seems legit. The company is recognized by the NLN and is accredited in every faction. You enroll into the prereqs and various nursing classes, they send you your books, you study, let them know when you want to take the CLEP exam, fly out to a different state for a week for clinicals, and voila you're an ADN. Then you take your NCLEX to become registered. I'm excited and it all seems great. I'm not too worried about the lack of clinicals, because basically the only thing an RN does that a LPN can't do is IV push which I'm sure is easily mastered with practice. However, my mom, (RRT) says not to do it, because of the lack of clinical experience and that once a hospital sees how I got my degree, no one will hire me. Is this true? I mean, if I passed the state boards, why wouldn't they hire me? Not to mention the horrible nursing shortage everyone hears about!? Should I go for it or not?? I want to become a nurse. and then become a Neonatal Nurse. IM so confused between all the different nurse types. Like RN, LPN, BSN, ADN. Help? moreResolved Question: Is there too much confusion in current health care education?
Now there are programs where Medical assistants can get a certificate, but also programs where they can get an associate degree. LPN/LVNs also have the certificate/associate degree option. RNs can get a diploma, associate or BSN degree. PAs can currently get an associate, BS or master's degree. How can all of these programs be equal, and why are they all necessary. If an MA has an associate degree but the nurse running the office staff is an LPN with a certificate, how is less education criteria for supervision. Similarly, how can a PA with an associate degree give orders to an RN with a BSN. In hospitals often BSN RNs have ADN supervisors, though many hospitals are now making it necessary to have a BSN to be a supervisor. If it is necessary to have an associate degree to be an LPN how can you be an RN with the same education? Wouldn't it make more sense if there was a set entry for every level of practice, and each added degree moved the person to a new level.?Jill, I agree that having a degree does not make the nurse with a BSN necessarily better than the ADN with intuition. But logically, wouldn't that same RN who had the intuition be a better RN if they also had more education, and wouldn't the BSN be just as poor an RN if they had attended an ADN program. Infact haven't we all seen many excellent ADN and BSN nurses as well as both ADN and BSN nurses who should not be practicing? Diane, as far as the DNP, this is one change I do support. It is not a move to just add a credential. It is based on the realization by many NPs that the education program for mid-level providers of all types, in general does not have time to adequately prepare NPs for the current health care settings. This is just a method of adding a professional degree, just as the pharmacist, the dentist, and the Physical Therapist have found is becoming necessary. I think as the amount of information required to perform a task expands, the education must also. When I was a Pharmacy Tech in the '70s, there was less than 1/3rd of the medications which are now available to be prescribed. When I was a Nursing assistant in the 70s a cholecystectomy patient spent an average of 7 days in the hospital. The acuity of the health care setting has increased. The level of technology has increased tenfold. Yet RN programs continue to have the same 2 year curriculum they had in the 1960s. They have 10 times the information to impart, but they just try to cram it into the same time period. NPs have realized the need for more time to assimilate the amount of information, so they are testing the option of the DNP. Though I see it being a probability rather than a possibility. moreVoting Question: Nurse Anesthetist Question.?

Would this be a mistake?? Should I just tough it out another few years for RN and THEN get a nursing job? I have mixed thoughts and am looking for feedback. Thanks! moreResolved Question: I have a bachelors degree in biotech, want to do nursing. Which type of nursing do i apply for, what r differ?

Does anyone happen to know of a bachelor's program for nurse practitioner? I am an LPN taking a bridge program to get my ADN. Are there programs for BSN that certify you for nurse practitioner? Thanks! moreResolved Question: PLEASE HELP w/ NURSINg!?
