Open Question: I was wondering if there were any LPN to RN bridge programs in the Youngstown area?

I currently work as a LPN in downtown youngstown but want to go back for my ADN and i would like to do a fasttrack program of a bridge program but online doesnt work for me because if i am not in a classroom then i will not study...does anybody know of any even an hour away from youngstown would help bc i am willing to travel more

Hi, I have decided that I would love to become a nurse and have been looking into LVN and RN programs. As of now, I have decided that I would rather be a VN/PN. I may do the LVN to RN bridge, but I will decide on that later. I'm wanting to work in a nursing home when I get my license. How hard is it for NEW LVN/LPN's to get a job in a nursing home? I am hoping to work around the San Antonio or the Houston area. Not that I'm too concerned with the pay, but what is the difference between nursing home pay and hospital pay? Also, what is the job market like for LVN/LPN's? Thanks for any information you can give..even if I didn't ask!! more

Ok, so I want to attend san diego city college. Originally, I wanted to take all my prerequisite classes the first year that would get me into the 2 year rn program..BUT, I just called sdcc today and they have a 3 year waiting list...so after all my prereqs are finished and I apply, i will have to wait 3 years to enter the 2 year rn program. So, I was reading about how some people get their lpn first then do a lpn to rn bridge program, that has ALOT shorter waiting list than rn programs and sometimes none at all. So, my question is, would you reccomend that I wait the 3 years to do the 2yr rn program or get my lpn and do a lpn to rn bridge program? *Also, if you're going to reccomend another college for me, please make sure its in san diego and has a nursing program. more

Im enrolled at my local community college taking nursing prerequesites. My college has just decided that in order to apply for the nursing program, we now have to take Chemistry and College Algebra (where as we didn't before) It has pushed us all back. Now at the earliest, I will be able to apply for the program next september and start in January of '11. The program is very competitive and what if I don't get in? All that time will be for nothing. Frankley, I have been going at this forever and I'm tired of waiting. I had an idea. Another community college in my area offers a LPN program. I have been toying with the idea of: getting my LPN (it's like 10 months or a year) and then doing the bridge option over to RN. If I decided to go the LPN route, by the time I would have even been able to apply for the RN program, I would be done with LPN program. I figured that I can atleast be working and making some money to help my husband and have my foot in the door while continuing to take RN classes. Also, if I had my LPN and decided to do the bridge option to RN, how much more school would that be? Sorry for so many questions and Im not looking for rude answers, just advice more

I am planning on attending a school that has just added LPN program and therefore the program is not yet accredited. In order to get the accreditation, they need to have a certain amount of students pass the program and because it is "new" we would be the first group. The teachers have said once we finish and pass the state board we will be able to get a job, and if we choose to bridge to the RN program we could do so because we have our license..I want to know is this correct?? Is it ok to join start the program which is not yet accredited? more

I am a nursing student...going for my LPN..then I will do a bridge program into the RN. I am just starting my semester where I start my clinicals and such and I have realized there is no WAY I will be able to work my full time job and complete all the work required of me as a full time student as well. I don't get any pell or anything..I live in GA so my tuition is paid for by the HOPE but that ONLY covers tuition and that is it. I did not want to take out a loan..I just have to pay it back! But...the more I think about it..I have one year until I have my LPN...calculating my bills it takes about 12K a year to support me...I think I could only get like 9 or 10 as a first time student loan..but that takes care of MOST of my bills. So..I was thinking of taking out a loan and basically not working...maybe just on the weekends or something to cover the extra cost of living. Does anyone here know how loans and stuff work and if that would be a good idea for me to look into. There are so many hours required at school and at home for the skills and someones life will be in my hands..I HAVE TO KNOW THIS STUFF...INSIDE AND OUT! I want to move next year. Right now I'm in a practical nursing program so once I get licensed I can pretty much move anywhere. However, I want it to be warm and sunny and also I need to have a college nearby so I can do a bridge program for LPN to RN because my ultimate goal is to be an RN. But once I become an LPN in a few months I want to get a job and move! Right now I live in FL. So I'd like to try something west...maybe Texas, Arizona, California, or somewhere that I can enjoy the single life as a young professional! How do I know where is best for me? I'm currently a student practional nurse in Texas I don't want to bridge over here in texas because there is only one community college where I live and they are really anal about pre reqs which I am avoiding at all costs since they are a waste of time, I am currently at LPN program kaplan university, and once I graduate I want to move back to California and bridge over to RN, would that be possible or do I have to take the NCLEX-PN and be a Licensed Practional Nurse in california before bridging over to RN? Voting Question: Where can I go to apply for financial aid while attending nursing school?

I know that there must be many programs out there to help with those attending nursing school. I'm currently enrolled in an LVN/LPN program and plan to complete a bridge program to complete my Associate Degree in Nursing (RN) and then my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The problem is that I've always worked while going to school and because of the fact that I've been able to pay most of my schooling without loans. BUT my income disqualifies me from almost all FAFSA assistance (my school only offered me $0 in aid this year). If I can't find somewhere to help me with loans, grants, or scholarships, I'll be forced to drop out of nursing school after the fall, which I definitely don't want to do. I've applied for the only local scholarship I could find which may help some, but I desperately need to find a back-up plan.... Any suggestions?? more

Hi, I was in school to be an RN and had Sallie Mae loans and Pell grants. At the program I got told I had to wait because my GPA was only a 3.3. So I got fed up and signed up for an LPN program so I can bridge later. The school is new and said that I have to pay in cash they are not set up for financial aid yet. Where can I get a grant or loan somewhere on my own to help until they get things rolling? more

Resolved Question: Trying to decide what type of nursing degree to get- any advice?

I already have a B.S. in Health Promotion. I did well in school, graduated with a 4.0 within the past 10 years and have already taken many of the prereqs I would need to get into nursing school, such as Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, etc. I would likely still need 1 or 2 prereqs. I have a CHES certification, Health Education Specialist. It won't help me get into nursing school, but I am mentioning it because I had to take an exam to become certified, so I really do know my "stuff" so to speak. I like health education and take wellness very seriously. I looked at doing the accelerated BSN program at a nearby college and it was $40k for 1 year. It is WAY too intense. I have 2 young kids. I don't want to miss out on a year of their lives for school. The community college here has an LPN program with a bridge to RN that I could complete in about a year for a fraction of the cost of the BSN. I'm thinking about applying. My question is- once I completed the RN bridge would I be considered "equal to" nurses with higher degrees since I have a BS in a health related field already? Should I just do the LPN program with the bridge to make my life easier? What kind of money would I make with a BS and an RN, but not a BSN?? Could I move up in the field? I just don't know what to do. I'm already CPR certified and in fact am certified to teach CPR for the American Red Cross. I have worked as a pharmacy tech for years in the past and my Mom is a nurse. I really feel like I know all the basics and just need the clinicals so I can take the exam. Any advice or real life experiences would be appreciated. What I don't want to do is get the LPN and then do the bridge and never make as much money or be as respected as nurses with a BSN. What do you think???I'm not super concerned about the money, just the respect and the ability to be promoted. I am going to get the RN for sure, but if I do it as a bridge from LPN will that be looked at as "less than" a nurse who gets her ADN or BSN directly?? more

I posted this elsewhere but didn't get a response...... I just got my AA transfer degree in pre-nursing. I was going to go into an RN program, but I am thinking it is a bit much with a 6 month old child and not a lot of support. School would be find, but the clinicals are what kills me in trying to find someone to watch him. SO, I have been researching LPN schooling. Can anyone tell me if the clinicals are taken at the same time as classes? I know that is how the RN programs are set up, but just wondering if it would be at all less than the RN. Also, once finished, I was going to do the RN-BSN bridge program. I also wondered if the LPN-BSN program is worth while? Do you end up with the same education? Thanks to anyone. I am in nursing school, and I graduate as an LPN in April. I planned on going straight into an RN program, but since I am unhappy with the education I am receiving at my current school, I don't see that as a possibility. The school I want to go to requires that you have 1000 working hours as an LPN before you start, and all the other schools with bridge programs have a waiting list. Right now, I am not making any payments on my student loans. Those start as soon as I graduate school. My question is, if I work for a year as an LPN, while making payments on my student loans, can i stop those payments again when I start my RN schooling? more

I plan to start my CC's lvn program and do the bridge program to RN. Eventually I would like to specialize in something that is less about wiping butts. I know nursing is a hard career that has meaning to both workers and patients and Ive though about it for a while. I want to do this. whats some good advice. Blood, mucus, and vomit dont bother me much but I would prefer a specialization or place of employment where I deal with less feces. I know its apart of a nurses job but I do know that some nurses deal with feces more than others. I was thinking about ER or surgical. I have been in community college taking my pre-reqs for 2 plus years for RN. I am almost done when next semester when I complete my Math. But I have taken all pre-reqs. I have had alot of trouble with Chemistry, Math, Microbiology and have failed some which have brought down my GPA. Some of my grades haven't been great due to having 2 children, working and maintaining 14 credits. I failed the NET test at one of the hospitals I was going to transfer to. I'm having a hard time finding a school which most require a GPA that's 3.0 or higher. I'm in north NJ and need to transfer to start my nursing career already. This is what my passion is for and my dream. I love the medical field, I'm a medical assistant. I was wondering if someone knows what I can do to transfer somewhere. I was thinking maybe getting my Associates degree but that would mean I'd be in my school for another year or so. Then I would just be able to enter the RN program without any pre-reqs. Or go to an LPN school to bridge to an RN program which takes the same amount of time as the RN. I would have to retake the NET test again and make sure I pass this time. so i signed up for a 4 year bsn nursing program i am a single mom and boy is it rough i have no support network here at all i have to work at night in a bar serving drinks or bartending its the only way i can do it all i finished all of my pre reqs for the nursing program and took the net now i have to wait to get into the program which can be 3 months or 9 months for me to wait to get in the 21 month program i am a massage therapist but it doesn't pay me and my sons bills so i am thinking of signing up for the one year lpn program which will be easier for me to finish and work in the bar then move closer to my friend who has kids my sons age as an lpn and then bridge over to an rn program. then i will be an lpn so have a real job as opposed to the floating bar and massage gigs a little more support network and possibly a better way to pay for the bridge program. tell me what you think makes more sense for me. thanks. sorry my shift button broken so i can not use caps and punctuation more

So I've decided that I want to become a nurse. The thing is there's so many different types of nurses! I think I want to become an RN, but I'm not for sure set on that. Ok so here is my delima, maybe you can help? I am 28 years old and work full time. It isn't an optimal situation, but it's what I have to work with. So I ultimatly def want to be an RN. The commuity college has a lpn and an rn program. The RN program is during the day and is 2 years long (after pre-reqs) the lpn is a year and a half, then i would take a semester long bridge to rn then it would be one more year to get my RN. The thing is the RN classes are supposedly very difficult and have a high failure rate. Not to brag but I am very smart, buutttt the night time lpn classes supposedly are more tailored to adult students and have a low failure rate. Not to mention that the lpn class is Thurs/Friday 4-9 and all day satuday. With that schedule i could keep my job and hours and be great. The RN is during the day so id have to switch to 3rd (2nd not a posibvility) im leaning toward lpn, but it would be so much longer to get my rn, im just unsure. Help please? more

i am really confused. I am a nursing student who will have completed my LVN/LPN associates in nursing and liberal arts in may of 2008. But I was planning on going on to get my RN, but then I am hearing about a BSN, so here is my question. SHould I bypass the RN and go straight for a BSN? Does a BSN rate the same as a RN, or would i outrank a RN. I really dont want to be a paper pusher at this point in my life, i want to work the floor. I know a lot of places are only wanting RNs. I am considering going back to college and I was thinking about becoming an LPN or an RN. We have a junior college here that has two campuses. The closest one offers an LPN program and the other one that is about an hour away offers the RN program. The LPN program is about a year and a half long, while the RN program is about two and a half years long. There is also the option to become an LPN then bridge into the RN program which would take about the same amount of time to complete. I am trying to decide if this is what I want to do. I want a job that pays more than I make now with benefits. I like the idea of being able to help people and I really like the idea that nurses are so in demand. My friend is in a program where she will end up with an lpn degree after eleven months. She goes for eight hours a day, four days a week. Then she can bridge over to RN in nine months after that. She says there are no general study classes. I have some general studies already and was considering just getting an associates RN with a different program. She says that seems silly because you can get your LPN and just start working and work on your RN as well but already have a degree. It's kind of confusing. more

I am currently in my first semester of nursing school and some circumstances have come up to where I may need to move halfway through my degree (which is an associates degree in nursing and I would be changing states, NC to NV). If I stay here long enough to get through my first year and summer semester, will I be able to test to become an LPN? Hi. I am currently an LPN (4th year) who is presently in the beginning stages (taking pre-reqs) toward my RN. I know I need to get into a nursing program preferably before my 6 year mark is up, BUT an obstacle has come into play. My husband orders will be up in Feb. He cant re-enlist until Dec because his current job is overmanned. (EM3 - Navy)So we wont know until then if we will be stationed somewhere else. (He is up for shore duty). I dont know what to do. I have 2 options for my goal of being an RN-case manager or hospice(undecided). I am currently going for my Transfer A.A(in the last course now, nothing I can do to change it.)Also unemployed. Now I want to be a nurse which a lot of programs are 2 year A.A, and I can't get any of that money for the program, UNLESS I go towards my bachelors. This brings up the BSN. Ok, here is my problem. I want to go into LPN school(to have experience, also its faster to bsn-1 year bridge. However LPN school doesn't start until September 08. Which means in college terms I have another semester or 7 months of a job. To get my BSN it will take a year and a half of pre-requisistes then I still have 3 years to finish, I would start BSN in Spring 09. Currently, I have no experience in the health care industry, would being a CNA help my cause while going for either "degree"? And which would be better for me right now?
