Lpn Travel Questions asked

Open Question: I want to become an RN I live in IL who do I need to contact to find out how to do so?

I have taken all of the pre requisites for becomming an LPN but the small town southern IL college that I'm currently attending says I have to do the LPN first. I am not interested in that I want the RN and actually would like to become a traveling nurse. Who should I contact in order to make this happen? I know I need to find a different college and I don't mind moving I just want to make the right decision for myself and my little girl. more

Resolved Question: I have been approved for intermittent Family Medical Leave for 2 years in a row ?

I am re-posting this because I swear that people don't actually read an entire post - they just skim and give an opinion - as if their opinion is the law. I don't need an opinion - I need to know what the law is. Now, I have read the law through, but it seems murky. I would appreciate an answer from someone who does know something about the Family Medical Leave act. Thank you in advance! I was approved for intermittent Family Medical Leave for 2 years in a row now. In that time, I have used 2 days - both last year. I need FML because I sometimes have to take my Mom (has had numerous strokes, heart problems) to various appointments. All of my siblings but one live out of state, so the majority of this stuff falls on my brother - I am his backup. He is on disability retirement, so he is happy to do whatever he can for Mom. My issue is this: next month, I am going to have to take Mom out of state for some kind of stroke study thing. I put in for 2 days off. She is actually scheduled for a Thursday, but I requested both Thursday and Friday off, due to travel time, etc. I don't want to stress her out any more than necessary. Well, my boss called me in, asked me if I knew that FMLA was for my Mom only, etc. I know all of this, of course - but I was a bit surprised that this is even an issue. I was then informed by a co-worker that the big boss demanded a copy of the emergency room bill when she was in a similar situation with her Dad - taking off from work because she had to take him to the emergency room. Do they have the right to do this? I thought there was such a thing as privacy rights, etc. I mean, what if my Mom has a bad day and I need to stay home with her, could they try to make me prove this some how? Her neurosurgeon told me that due to HIPPA, he does not even have to put a reason - just that I would be needed to care for my mother. The law does not even demand that the medical condition be spelled out, nor does it even say that the request for FMLA must come from a physician, simply a Health Care Practitioner. This can be a CRNP, an MD, a PA, an RN, even an LPN. I know that I can take the time off, I made certain of that when I filled out all of the required paper work, got the letter of need from my Mom's neurosurgeon, etc. What I want to know is if the employer has a right to demand proof of some sort when I do need to use the FMLA. I just don't see how they can legally do this, but I have been surprised before. This really blows me away because I have only used it very sparingly - only when there is no recourse. My brother really can't be expected to do everything. What if she had Alzheimer's? Would they require proof EVERY time I needed to use a day to care for her? That is ridiculous.I would dearly love to be able to use my sick days for this - I have 68. However, my employer's policy is that sick days can only be used for my own illnesses. The nature of my job won't allow for taking off a couple of hours, Kathi. I either work or I don't, so if I need to take off, it is a whole day. more

Open Question: Does anyone know of a good LPN program in NY, NJ or wherever?

I live in NYC and I want to go to a LPN program. All the LPN program that I know of within the 5 boroughs all have a waiting list. I would prefer a training or vocational school as a oppose to a college. I am willing to travel everyday as long as I get into an accredited lLPN program. If you know of any schools, please list it below. All your suggestions and advice are well appreciated. Thank You. more

Voting Question: how do i get out of the feelings i have? Every Valentine card makes me feel SICK!!(long but need help thnx?

My husband just one night pushed me out of bed when i was sleeping and he was on facebook. I didnt know WTF was going on, this was just out of the blue no inications before. He wouldnt let me sleep on the couch and for the next 4 months I could only sleep in my daughters room. He wouldnt let me back in the bedroom. He had turned 40 and met all his old highschool people online and even went to go see them. He told me that I was going to leave and that he wasnt my husband anymore. I WAS totally shocked. HE has just started staying at home from his work, because of less travel, Because of this I was able to find a part time job, working for a respectable university, and had applied and been accepted into nursing school...SO everything was on track for what we both had planned when he started staying home more (me to go to work for my career and him spend more time with the kids) I kept standing up for myself and 4 children told him I was not leaving that it was my house not just his and i wasnt leaving my children either.. Finally one day he got so angry when i said no that he pushed my forehead and I called the cops. they arrested him. He was let back into the house because he works from home and has office there. The trial date wasnt untill 2 1/2 months later. We went through thanksgiving , christmas estranged in the same home but still off and on having sex. He would often say that he loved me but didnt like me. The arrest had traumatized him, Having to bend over naked so they could check for drugs. I didnt feel sorry for him at all. But told him I would never do it again...( I lied I did do it again, please keep reading) He couldnt threaten or touch me during the time he was allowed back in the home. After christmas he tried to get me to leave again by agreement. I said no, he ended up getting so mad again that he grabbed me and pushed me against the wall lightly grabbed my throat (he was restraining himself) and yelled at me that he Hated me.... and wanted me to leave. (Now...side note...I have never been unfaithful in 16 years...kept my body up....dont have any friends because didnt want to make him jealous wanted to put his mind at ease while he was away from home....have been a recluse at home because I wanted to wait for him to do things with the kids...LIke boyscouuts, or football, and church.. The only thing I did was go to school got a 2yr degree and now in LPN school; Also, I was an Executive secretary for a large famous Corporation when we were first married...so I would manage his work...even though his boss didnt know.. I did a lot of contract work, including finding contracts for him...so basically work from home for my husband Everything has been for my husband!) \ SO I said I would leave, packed my stuff, he fixed my car, bought some stuff for nursing school I needed, and gave me just a little$ and I went to me moms. I was going to be back on Sunday to pick up a check I needed for school. Well I came back on Saturday instead and called told him I was there and wanted to see the kids. He blessed me out and said I was never coming back that I had LEFT the home and we were getting a separation agreement next week! WELL he was in our house because that first arrest I had let him back in to work. I could have had him arrested for what he did to me that day I had left...So three days later (sunday) I had brusies on me where he had pushed me. I had him arrested...this time It was a felony because he violated the first order not to harrase me. By this time I was thinking it was probalbly best just to leave everything and not fight it anymore. He said I have family here and he doesnt, so I have a place to go. I was tetering back and forth "why sHould I have to give up everthing when He is the one that doesnt want our family together with me anymore.. his ass should be out!" and "I dont want to rock the boat for him, I have been home for 16 years and taking care of everything while helping him getting up to where he has a big $$ job now...all the shit I put up with him and the house and kids that he didnt recognize because he was traveling..Its His turn to take over EVERYHthing that I know exists and he doesnt understand in our home.... I can now have a time for me" SO I decided I didnt want to prosecute for the second time of arrest. because he was the only way our kids could keep their lifestyle and I could keep mine.....the only way to get out of it was to prove I have some kind of mental illness.... (i dont) But I went to a psych. and convinced them I was came out with MEDs and a diagnosis. When the 2nd trial day came up they dismissed after me convincing them i had a Mental break down and didnt know which end was up because I couldnt remember what happend. ALSI, I felt horrible because I know there are other cases that are much worse than mine and lots of them deserve to be in prison and convicted. But I wanted him to stop because the second time more

Resolved Question: Should I go back to school now (LPN or RN) or wait?

I have some bills I need to catch up on (student loans and cleaning up credit report). Most of the bills are minor except the student loan. Plus, my mom lives with me so we live on my income. A friend said I could live with him until I finish school (he's in the military, so he travels all the time) but my mom is living with me so I don't have that option unfortunately. I need to know is going to LPN school really worth it? or Should I go to RN school? I figured I could go to LPN school next fall and then use the income as an LPN to bridge the RN. At the same time I got bills to catch up on and my mom lives with me. Help!!!! Any suggestions? more

Voting Question: I have a question about nursing involving traveling?

Ok, so i am just beginning my college career. Im a 19 yr old male who is very interested in nursing, and more so traveling nurses. I have been researching and looking at stuff for some time and i could see myself making it work for me. I am not sure where i should go, should i get an RN degree or just get and LPN certificate and try to get into a traveling program and progress into an RN while i work or with time off. I would like to get school done and start working as soon as i can, but if its really better to go 4 to 5 yrs for an RN degree i would do that. more

I really need money to further my education and I really enjoy traveling, working with people, and helping others. What is my best bet? i want to come out of the military with my RN.. more

Voting Question: How bad does it look when you quit a job without notice?

I am currently an LPN and quit my job without giving my 2 weeks notice. I worked for a home health agency that you couldn't rely on getting paid on time most of the time. When I was hired they gave me a certain area of clients to make visits to. My supervisor pulled them away from me and gave the clients to another employee. They expected me to travel an hour away from home and I explained it before that I couldn't do it because I was getting no mileage and was only getting paid per visit not per hour. My supervisor was fine with it at first and said she would keep me at my same schedule because they was my clients. Well 4 weeks later she switch my schedule. She became upset with me and hollering because I said I could not do that schedule. Anyways, she said she would make sure I wouldn't find another job. I have quit one other time at a nursing home because afraid of putting my nursing license at risk so I quit without notice. I just graduated last year and want to apply for other jobs but afraid I won't get hired because of the situation. How should I handle this with searching for another job? The way I feel that I should switch careers because I feel like I don't even have a chance. more

Voting Question: Would you commit to taking a job knowing that they could fire you for a documented handicap after you started?

After numerous applications in health related fields which included everything from school nurse to investigator, thousands of dollars expended in education, travel, maintenance of five state nursing licenses and the required continued education units; six years after a spine injury at work, have no job because I was fired during probation with no way to appeal! (Federal EEO and MSPB dismissed). Nurse applicants have to sign an agreement often to be willfully terminated if they do not pass a physical AFTER they are employed. Would you agree to such a statement since disagreeing would remove you from candidacy for the position? Do you think disclosing your restrictions will lessen your chance for a job even if it means you risk losing the job later and your current lower paying benefits of workers compensation? How many nursing jobs would you apply to and for how long before giving up your career? Mine was 25 years as an RN, 3 an LPN, and 2 as a Nurse Aid. Here are just some sample apps. which will not let you apply if you disagree to their terms to include a physical AFTER employment. See nurse application at: https://recruit.virtua.org/ https://www.virtualhrasistant.com/Trinatas The Federal Employees Compensation Act, Office of Workers Compensation Programs has no authority over the employer who fired you, even though there does not exist any factual evidence for termination. They cannot make them rehire you if you were probationary. Have you heard of OSHA erganomic workplace standard of 2001 ? http://www.afscme.org/press/7121.cfm Have you heard of the H.R. 2381, Nurse and Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2009 ? http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-2381 If you love a nurse and care about the people they care for, then please respond to this question. Resolved Question: What are your regrets in life?

Ive been thinking lately, maybe a little to much, but im feeling a bit like im letting my life pass me by. Im 20 yo, im an nurse (lpn), and my schedule is the same week after week after week. Im living with my boyfriend who has the same routine too. I have no interest to travel, am just worried im missing out on alot of things like the experience of going away to college and experiencing life in general. I just dont want to look back in 30 years and feel like i didn't live up to my full potential of all that life has to offer. Any advice and personal experiences and regrets you have? more

Resolved Question: Is there a difference between a Bachelor of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees?

I want the end result of my education to be a Registered Nurse. I have two routes which I am considering to get there. Preferable route: 2 years of education to get LPN --> Work in the field for the required 1 year --> Apply to receive my Bachelor of Nursing for a following 3 years of education. Other option: Go to school four years straight to get my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I would like to take the first option so that I can work and save up money and also travel in between schooling but I want to end up with equivalent degrees. Does the differentiation between the two terms just depend on who you ask? more

Resolved Question: I'm afraid/concerned I won't be able to enjoy my "youth" - what to do?

I'm 22 and still very young. It's been a big goal/dream of mine to become a nurse. Right out of high school, I got all my pre-reqs done, volunteer/work hours finished, became a nursing assistant.etc...It's been a hard 5 yrs trying to get in b/c it's soo competitive. I may have a chance this coming fall quarter to a part time program that's very nice and doesn't weed you out (like other nursing schools). thing is, it's LPN (which is the "lowest" on the nursing ladder. 1.LPN, 2. RN (associate's), 3. BSN (Bachelor's). It normally takes a year but this program tkes 2 years - working my way up to a BSN would take 4-5 years. I would (hopefully) be 26 or 27 by the time I finish. Here's my concern: i grew up in an old fashioned asain household and asian parents are CRAZY w. education. You can't live your life b/c your education is "at risk" and they think all worse case scanarios. It's not realistic for me to move out and it would be smart for me to live at home 'til I finish school. Thing w. asian parents, is you can never really "live your life" or have your own life when you're still under the roof. You can be 25 or 26 and if you tell them you're going camping w. friends, they guilt trip you not to go and remind you how "school is important". It's hard for me b/c I'm an independent minded girl. I'm worried by the time I graduate and am well enough to be on my own, it might be too late. I'm happy and single right now and I dunno...what if by that time, I can't be able to enjoy my youth? I don't mean go out and party but grow as a person, travel....esp since i'm not married or have kids...I'm so concerned about this...what do i do?here's what i was thinking: since asians are crazy w. money as they are w. education, I was thinkin I could pay for school myself - books, supplies, everything. They can't say anything there. Since it's a part time, I could still be able to work full time and work w. finances. So if I do go out and relax or do something not "school related", they can't get mad at me...And anyone who's moved out know it's hard work - most ppl I know eventually move back in...esp if they don't have a steady career/foundation behind it. Esp w. the economy and finances...so you need to be realistic about it. It's a goal that I hope to move out someday more

Resolved Question: Is it possible to work as both an LPN and a flight attendant?

To better specify, is it possible to work as an LPN while also holding the job of a flight attendant? For as long as I can remember, I have had a great desire to help people, and I believe that nursing is one of the ways in which I would like to do this. However, I have also realized that travelling is one of the few things that make me truly happy. Although I understand that the economy is greatly struggling at the moment, I continue to have hope and determination in achieving this career in aviation. P.S. While I have heard the advantages of becoming an RN, I think that being an LPN would be best suited for me. Consequently, I am not interested in becoming a flight nurse. more

Resolved Question: Is online school a good idea?

My mom is having a hard time with attending school, going to work, and taking care of general household chores, responsibility to family members, kids...you know the deal. Anyway, she's not good with computers but if she learned to be a little more tech savvy than she is now, is there any way that online schooling would be a better idea? People say it's very convenient but I know it's going to be at a faster rate and heavy work load. But I'm thinking that since she won't have to travel to school, that could save her a lot more time. So, should she consider online school for a Nursing or at least an LPN degree? And if so, what are the best online schools? What do you need to apply? more

Resolved Question: Real College or Job Training?

I want to attend a community college for their Nursing program to become a RN. I'm wondering if there would be any need for me to travel off to a "real college" when I could just take job training for the same thing. It seems like I can start community college and become an LPN and then take their bridge program to become an RN. But I'm confused as to weather there is some degree or something I have to receive in college that would make it official. Or weather i can just start working right out of community college. more

Voting Question: I am an undecided RN looking for a job. What can I do now?

For the past 15yrs. i've worked as a CNA/ LPN/ RN. I've worked approx. 7 yrs. in hospital and nursing home settings, and just completed 8 yrs. in corrections. I'm really looking forward to a different aspect of nursing but what is there? I would like to do something that wouldn't burn you out so fast. I've thought that a speciality clinic job would be great because I would enjoy the hours and weekends off. I feel I've earned that for the past 15 yrs. of working my butt off. But I was also wondering if a travel job would offer some new light into nursing, but I wouldn't want to be stuck in the same scenarios as above. I'm sorry, but i'm very undecided, or I guess maybe just "picky" at this point and just looking for some advice. Thank you to all who answer. Any great offers will be greatly appreciated. more

Classes That I Struggle In/Have No Interest: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry (A lot because when I learned Pre-Algebra, my teacher was had her child and we had different substitutes who never taught much and sometimes let us watch TV... and when the teacher came back I went to tutoring with other students after school and she always was off doing errands and told us to work problems we didnt know on the board.... since then I havent been able to do math that well except for remedial type math classes). * I always wanted to take Zoology, but when I transferred to my new high school (dad was in the army and he got stationed in another state) I didnt meet requirements.Whatever Mikey. Im just seeking advice on potential majors... so what if I want a day job, something that is quicker than a bachelors, or etc. You can just take your old self and get off yahoo answers... I pay for your welfare check. :) more

Resolved Question: LPN new grad.wants to know best way to break into travel nursing?

I am a new LPN grad with honors and was wondering if anyone could tell me the best firm or firm that is willing to accept new LPN grads for travel nursing. A lot of the firms that I have contacted thus far are wanting one year experience or more or will only hire RN's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW i do have a lot of clinical experience but am still green in quite a few areas but my classwork is excellent and I will be graduating with honors.I know that to most "getting my feet wet" with a year's experience may so be the best option but I really feel I am capable of hitting the ground running with my extensive clinical experiences. Taking that into consideration and knowing that there are firms that DO hire new LPN GRADS which of these are the best and do you have any other pointers for me? What I'm weak on I can bone up on and I am very strong on Medpass and most procedures. I am a very quick learner....I am really itching to get out of this area and relocate and travel nursing would be ideal to find my new home! more

Resolved Question: Should I go?

I am not working at the moment due to a mishap in October. I am looking for work and trying to recuperate from the mishap. My male friend of 26 years (we just reunited in 2006 after 24 yrs of not seeing or being around each other. In 1982 we met at school and went out on one date and never saw each other again. I went to see him in August for 5 days and we talk every day and have been for 2 years). His mother is coming out of the rehab and I want to help them some two states away. I am an LPN but unemployed right now and going to school for a degree. I am taking an on-line course and I will take my laptop with me. I have talked with some employment agencies in AL and they said that I was eligible for employment. I was thinking about moving back to AL because it's my home. Do you think this is a good time to go back after 19 yrs in MA to see if I like it now? There are so many upgrades and I feel it would be therapeutic. I will be caring for her on M/Tues/Wed. when he travels more

Resolved Question: Considered to be Abusing the System for the following reasons or conditions??

Just looking for some logical input. I have recently been terminated from my Nurse Coordinator/Recruiter position for being out on medical leave, in NJ it is Temporary disability as my doctor ordered me out of work for Post Lyme Disease Syndrome, Epstein Barr Virus & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I put in 2 long of a day according 2 my doctor. He asked me 2 go on temp disability 2 doctor with specialists. So I have and was terminated. I have worked more than 10 yrs in the field, I must travel way 2 far (Live In NJ is why) Anyway, I realize I need to make some life changes for my health but still want 2 earn a living of some sort, so I came up with this idea, tell me your opinion if you think it's abusing the system. I will collect my State of NJ temp disability monies until exhausted, then file for unemployment which I think I will be entitled, register for a LPN course (licensed pratical nurse) maybe have the state pay for the course and extend my unemplyment benefits 6 month? more

Resolved Question: Other RN's, do you hate it?

Hi. I am an RN. I started working as a "nurse" in 2005 (LPN), and became an RN in 2006. When I was working toward my nursing goal, I wanted it SO badly. I was on waiting lists, I prayed I would get in, I was so envious of other nursing students. Then once it was finally my time and I got in, I excelled. Had mostly A's, and some B's, kicked ass on State Boards, ect... Now in being a nurse, I find myself totally disgusted. I am always good to my patients, and I like helping people, but I can't see myself doing this forever. I am shocked, cause I never woulda thought I would be feeling this. Do any other nurses feel this way? I have done travel, med-surg, OR, and now occupational health. I have no desire to do ER or trauma...I just plain think this sucks. Makes me kinda sad. :( I am currently in college (again) working toward a Bach in nursing then maybe Nurse Practitioner. Yet I don't think that is going to satisfy me either!! Comments? more
