Nursing School Programs Questions asked

Open Question: Is there such thing as a Pediatric nurse?!?

Ok, so right now i am a sophomore but my junior and senior year of highschool i am going to a nursing school program and when i graduate highschool i will be a CNA. Then im going to nursing school to become a RN. but i was wandering if there is such thing as a pediatric RN? I really want to work with children but I don't know if you can choose that or not.. hahaa more

Open Question: best Florida colleges for Nursing?

i'm considering: FSU, FAU, UNF, and USF to get my BSN. would it be bad if i went to a CC to get my BSN... it'd be cheaper. if not which of the 4 schools is best for nursing. i go to one of the mentioned schools (not saying which for safety reasons) but am considering transferring. i just don't know which one has the best. i'd like to get into UF's but i KNOW that it's super hard to get into that program at that school so that is highly unlikely in the question. more

Open Question: PRE-NURSING STUDENT-- very confussed!?

I want to become an RN that's my ultimate goal! But I live in AZ and they are saying there is about a 2-3 year waiting list to even get into the program. That's after you finish all your pre-reqs. I have about 2 full semesters of pre-reqs (so 1 full year). That's including those classes that are built into the nursing program. But I was talking to a friend she said it would be easier to get into the program and faster to get your LPN first. That program takes 10 months and I have all the pre-reqs for that program. Then get hired at a hospital... and u have double the chances of going back to school to get your RN because I guess the hospitals have there own program, then I will still be on the waiting list at the community college. But I want some more advice... I want to know that I can get a job as an LPN... and that you really can continue your schooling. Plus I want to make sure that the LPN program will count for something towards the RN program. I know this is A LOT of questions.. I guess I'm thinking out loud but I want some advice please! Thanks! more

Open Question: My biggest Dilemma: UC DAVIS or UC SAN DIEGO?

I have both been accepted to these UC's. They are my top choices. For UC San Diego, I got into Warren College with Pharmacological Chemistry major. For UC Davis, I got in with a BioChem major. I live in San Jose, about 2 hours away from Davis, maybe 8-9 hours from SD. I do not want to live too close nor too far from home, but I hope to live the full college experience and be able to visit my family every now and then. I am obviously interested in the medical field, but I have not made a clear career choice (pharmacist, RN nurse, dermatologist..etc). PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INSIGHT...anything beyond a basic tour guide from the school. Social vibe, competitiveness, best medical programs, food, advantages, disadvantages, financial aid, random facts (:< I would appreciate it more

Open Question: What's the difference between ADN, LVN?

I was initially taking my pre-reqs for a BSN at a Nursing school, but at 26 I am wanting to take the quickest route. I found out there is an ADN program and all I need to be considered is Chem and A&P (I've fulfilled all other requirements) My question is, what is the difference between ADN and LVN? I would like to be a flight nurse later on, what schooling would I need to complete after I have an ADN? Or could I become a flight nurse with an associate's in nursing? Also, what is the pay in an area life California? I would like to move back to SF once I've completed the program. Thanks in advance. more

Open Question: does which school you go to matter for Medical Assisting or nursing?

My wife wants to get into nursing, but first wants to get her MA certificate/diploma. my questions are, is there a difference between a certificate program and a diploma program? as long as she's certified in the state we live in (california) then she's fine right? also, does which school you go to for your AA/BS for nursing matter, as far as getting a job goes? ie if she gets a "degree" from a vocational school like university of phoenix or heald, is that better or worse than getting a degree from a local state college like, cal state east bay or san francisco state univ for example?edit: she's thinking about getting a MA license so she can at least start working in a doctor's office to do whatever. learn the field a little and get started in it. She's currently working in retail and desperately wants to get out. a nursing program would take at least 2 years and the nursing programs are extremely full, so it would probably take even longer. MA would allow her to take a short few month program. it costs some money (about $3000) and would allow her to work while going to nursing school. Basically she wants to bring in some income while attending nursing school. Diane, thank you for your answer. What is a CNA and how do you go about becoming that? more

Open Question: Great way to raise $900?

I want to take a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) training course in a couple of months, but it costs $924! I don't have that type of money! My parents won't even think about helping me out; they want me to pay for the course myself. And I'm not eligible for financial aid/assistance either because I'm only 16 years old. You'll need to be older than that and collecting unemployment or something like that to receive financial assistance. I would like so much to do this program; becoming a CNA is extremely important to me. Aside from applying to scholarship programs for vocational schools and simply finding a job (which of course won't raise that much money in 2 months), what are other ways that I can go about to raise the $900? more

Open Question: Should I stay home and attend school locally or take a year off and join San Diego Job Corps?

So, Once I graduate high school I plan to join the job corps in San Diego & eventually attend a community college and later transfer to San Diego State and purse my goal in becoming a Forensic Nurse. One of my reasons for joining the job corps first is because I not only want to get out of my house and make a life in San Diego, I also want to join because I feel this program will help me gain work experience in nursing and have some experience of how it is really going to be when I live on my own. I am aware it would be much easier staying at home while going straight into a community college by where I live and not having to stress over bills and things to that nature, however I want to get out there and live my life differently and take a chance. So, my questions are..What is the environment like at Job corps? What are the people like? What skills or studies do they offer? Curfew? Can I leave campus anytime? I have my diploma, what are some benefits that they will offer me? Anyone who has been in the program, your opinions and thoughts will be helpful considering I dint know much about the job corps (specifically San Diego) only what I have read on their brochure and on the internet... more

Open Question: How is San Jose State University's medical co-op program? How is its relationship with outside hospitals?

I am currently a junior in high school interested in going to a good nursing school that has a strong co-op program with hospitals. I've been thinking of UCLA or UCI because they both have hospitals on campus. I have been looking into San Jose State's nursing program as well, but I am unaware of a campus on San Jose State University's campus, so I was wondering if they have good connections with other hospitals. Do they have nurses (medicals students) intern at hospitals? How do they prepare the students getting into the work force? more

Open Question: Patient transporter at a hospital?

I'm a pre-nursing student looking to get into working in a hospital setting for both exposure and experience. This summer, I really want to work as an aide at my local hospital. One of the hospitals near my school (actually -- the one that my school's nursing program is connected to) currently has an opening for patient transporters, so I applied, and got a call for an interview (probably because I'm a nursing major at my school -- I'm not sure of any other reason since I've mainly worked in retail). Here's the job posting: POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment and patient-related items to their destinations enabling physicians, nurses, technicians, and therapists to perform their duties in an effective manner.. EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE: High school graduate or equivalent. Prior patient care/handling experience preferred. Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. Completes population specific competency annually on populations served as identified in scope of care and service. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Good communication and interpersonal skills required. I have a couple questions: 1) What is working as a patient transporter like? 2) What do patient transporters wear? (Wondering if I should be looking for scrubs). 3) Pay? Not really an issue...I'm just curious. 4) Will this help me get the aide job at the hospital at home (it has basically the same requirements)? 5) What kinds of questions will the interview consist of? I would be extremely stoked if I got the job for a variety of reasons including the fact that I'm a poor college student and it's money, I'll start getting to know the hospital I'll be in all the time next year and the year after, and if I want to take A&P II at my school over the summer, I wouldn't have to worry about getting a job elsewhere. Thanks guys! more

Open Question: What college should I go to for medical school?

I want to know my options of what colleges are out there that have a great medical program or great classes that will help me with credentials and all that stuff. I want to be a nurse or surgeon. What colleges are right for me and what does my GPA have to be for me to get into these colleges? more

Open Question: Pre-med or nursing for undergrad?

Im getting ready to start deciding on my college path and I want to do something in healthcare. Im in the i.b. program at my school and I will most likely will receive the i.b. diploma which will award me 20 hours of college credit. I am wondering if I should major in nursing or chemistry and pre-med for my B.S. I am not from a wealthy family but, i will probably get academic scholarship (i have a 4.3). I just need advice on what to major in. I do plan to go to med school one day, but i dont know if i should work as a nurse for a couple of years to gain experience. Just give me any advice you have. Thanks! more

Open Question: Considering becoming an RN, what are my options (I am from the business world, need help)?

I have my bachelors degree in Human Development. I've worked in sales/marketing for 12 years. Want out of the "rat race" so I've decided to become an RN. I need to keep my student expenses down. Thinking of going to the local community college because they have a 2-yr RN program. Is community college an okay place to go? Is it my best option considering my situation? I would eventually want to get an advanced degree from a more reputable school so I could be a nurse practitioner (or something.. would love your opinion on those options as well). I know there are many paths to becoming an RN, please give me your opinions. Also, I need to make at least 80k per year. Can I do this out of college? I have no problem working a little overtime until my salary goes up. Also, I feel that with my many, many years of management experience in the business world, i would eventually be a great candidate for a nurse manager of some sort. Would love your feedback! thank you! more

I am just "used to" making a lot of money in sales, and i have a mortgage, etc... so although I would be happy to take a pay cut AND go through a hard schooling program to make less money at first.... i just don't want to take too much of a salary cut is all. it's a balancing act... more

Open Question: Please can anybody fix my short essay and add a little bit if i am missing somthing? thank you?

Sometimes it’s hard to introduce yourself because you know yourself so well that you even know where to start with. My name is Ajmal Soltani and I was born in Afghanistan but I grew up in the historic country of Uzbekistan, which is located In Central Asia and was the part of Soviet Union. However, I have been in the United states for 4 years and I speak 4 different languages such as English, Russian, Farsi and Uzbek. I am an Honor Roll student at James River High School with 3.5 GPA and many awards . However, In my future I want to become a Doctor because I love to help people. I realized that I have the ability to help people when I started to volunteer at Lucy Core Nursing Home. It’s not only gave me the chance to help the patients and the staff, but it also gave me a chance to explore possible career options in the medical field. I am currently taking Psychology in high school and attending LPN Nursing Program. I believe that it is a very interesting option for a career which I can help patients who could otherwise not perform basic life functions. However, being accepted in Grasp scholarship gives me the ability to go on the major that I want to be. I am a honor student and I know I can do it because I am a hard working girl. I have always hoped to win scholarship . It would be a very great achievement to have gained a scholarship award because it can boost my area of strength, work relations and create an opportunity to realize my full potential of being a professional Doctor to help people the way they want. The scholarship help me to continue my education and be a helpful person in my future. I really want this scholarship for my further education. more

Resolved Question: There is no prefect time to have a baby... is now the time?

I am in my second semester of nursing school (2 year RN program) This week (more or less) is my fertile window. If I conceive now I would have my baby at the end of the Fall semester. I would have my 6-ish weeks off, and then have to go back to school for my last semester. I have a 2.5 year old and I am afraid if I wait too much longer there is going to be too big an age gap between my kids. There is no perfect time to have a baby, but is this cutting it too close? more

Open Question: A Nursing school is making me wait to take my exit exam what are my rights?

My wife just finished nursing school a couple days ago. The course is a 1 year program, which we signed on the contract. Now that it is over they want her to wait 6 months before she can take her exit exam. Which means she can't take her license test until she passes her exit exam. Which puts us in a pickle because we need the money. My wife says that he doesnt want to pay money for the 1 month review class for a teacher to teach a small class. So he wants them to wait 6 months for the next batch to finish.Would you happen to know what special this was for? more

Open Question: Which do you think is a better major for me? Please help!?

Hey guys! I'm a freshman at a great Southern university and I love it! Recently, I have been thinking about what to major. I know for sure that I want to work with people. I love interacting with people, making them laugh, and helping them. I can also usually read people really well, without much inquiry. The other side of this is, I want to have a career that provides security and comfortable life style. A career that allows me to travel would be great, too. So, I have basically come up with these options: 1.) Nursing. With a BSN I could go onto graduate school. I could become a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Anesthetist, or get my MBA and work in the administration side, or even become a professor. All of these paths appeal to me. One of the negative sides of this option is, if I wanted to do the nursing program at the school I am at now, I would have to get accepted to the program which only takes 20 students or go to another campus two hours away. I love the idea of staying all four years here because I have already made friends and I am involved (fraternity, church, etc.). 2.) Psychology/Anthropology/Pre-Dental. So, it's true: you really find out which classes you enjoy most while take the general ones Freshman/Sophomore year. This semester I have discovered that I really love my psychology, anthropology, spanish, and communication classes. I actually look forward to going to them. They are all about people, which I love! This plan would mean getting my undergrad in Psychology and Anthropology while taking the Pre-Dental requirements. I just don't know if I want to take all of those science classes in undergrad and dental school. But, I do like the idea of being a dentist or Orthodontist: All of the people they see and the great money they make. The other side of this plan is, if dental school didn't work out, I would have the psychology degree to fall back on. If I decided that dental school wasn't for me, I would take more Anthropology and Spanish classes. I could then go to graduate school (Psychology or Anthropology, or get my MBA). I just don't know how stable the psychology field is and the amount of income for the time spent in school. Also, with this plan I could stay all four years at the campus I am at now, which would be great! Ahhhh, so many options! Anyway, thank you so much for your time. Any advice would be great!! :] more

Open Question: would a minor in forensic science help me become a forensic nurse or would it be a waste of time and money?

Open Question: I thinking about changing my major, Advice?

I'm currently a psychology major, it's ok, i don't hate it, just don't love it. Ever since i could remember I have always, like seriously, been absolutely fascinated with the universe. Like: planets, stars, space (space-time), how everything is moving. and how this all affects us, etc... In high school I did extremely well in math, made a 4 on the calculus ap exam (the only ap course my school could afford), and i really love numbers, i actually find myself missing my math classes and this semester i even i took a logic (not exactly like math, but close) course just to get the rush again. but i am so far invested in my major that i am unsure about making the change. What makes me think about it even more a few months ago i looked at my roommate and best friend a psychology major who loves psychology and has books about that stuff and then me, I have almost the entire "A very short intro series" on anything dealing with physics, 3 books by Stephen Hawking (though 2 are very similar), and countless little "finds". If I do change, I can see myself dabbling more in astrophysics definitely more theoretical then applied. I never thought about it as a major in high school, no one even mentioned science to me or any of the other females in Honors program. it was always business, nursing, or psychology/sociology or some other soft science, so i didn't think it could be taken seriously. My sister asked me a while ago why I didn't major in it (she's at a different high school and coming to my university next year), and that's when i begin to really think about it. I just thought it was like just some other thing i really liked. And then of course there's the time and money. And I am pretty sure physics not a field that pays well either so i need to take that into consideration. Any advice I'm just unsure, this is the rest of my life, after all. I am a junior, rising senior, yeah I know =( more

Open Question: Do you think College students should work?

I was wondering whats some people opinions on college students working while going to school full time....I was thinking about quitting my part time job to just focus on college more and do some volunteer at a hospital. Open Question: Thinking about college is really stressing me out!!!! Any advice on where to go?

I am a junior in high school with a 3.86 unweighted GPA and a 4.2 weighted. I got a (yikes) 26 on my ACT (i bombed the math section, so if i can bring that up i am looking at a 29 or 30) and havent taken the SAT yet but i got a 182 on the PSAT, so around a 1820 for math, CR, and writing. I live in TN and really really really do not want to go any further north than i already am (i am considering schools in NC and SC though, maybe KY) or anymore west than, say, LA. I want a strong academic school, but one where i can easily get scholarships (my parents will not pay more than $7,000 for school, though if i get a full ride i can get a new car when i graduate!) I am looking for a bigger school, but not university of GA huge (33,000) though i think i would like small schools too, depending on the city around it - i like big cities. Major: Right now Nursing is my top pick, though i might do med school, so Chemistry or Biology Here is what i have considered so far, though any suggestions are welcome (if it is a big public college, i would go for the honors program or college): Auburn U of Alabama Tuscoolusa Rhodes College in memphis (small school, but i like it) Florida State Others: Emory Furman Clemson Belmont U in nashville U of TN knoxville (i really dont want to go here b/c that is where everyone from my school goes and i what all new people, but i could get a full ride) U of Memphis U of SC Also, I have considered Vanderbilt, Duke, etc but they do not have a nursing major, plus they are crazy expensive! I can answer any other questions you have. Thanks so much for reading! i am looking forward to any responses!!! more

:] more

Open Question: Anyone in school to become a Nurse? Or someone can help who is a nurse? This is a schooling question?

I currently have a Bachelor's degree in Applied Professional Studies, which is completely unrelated to Nursing. I would like to go back to school and become a Nurse Anesthetic. I think I need to become an RN first. Every time I look at colleges, it seems the programs are for people who are already RN's and would like to become BSN's (???) I would like to know if anyone has an idea what would be in store for me. I have an appointment to meet with a guidance counselor locally this coming week, but after reading about the program, I don't think I qualify because I'm not an RN. Please help! more

Open Question: Master's Degree in Nursing for those with Bachelor's degree in another field?

Resolved Question: Is it possible for an Accounting major and still be pre-med?

I'm a sophomore in college who has been studying business for a few semesters, and I just declared my major to Accountancy (I start the upper-division track next Fall). Accounting is pretty neat, at least I think so based off of the two lower-division classes I've had so far, and I had been considering myself pre-law so it seemed to be a nice fit since I don't think I could see myself doing accounting work for the rest of my life. This semester though I'm currently enrolled in a law course - actually offered through the law school of my university, comprised of mostly law students and a few undergrads (some special honors program or something) and I'm not really liking it. I like the discussion part of the class, but the reading of the text is kind of dull. I'm also in an Anatomy class this semester, which I took because I've always been somewhat interested in Nursing and things like that, but couldn't switch my major without having to stay longer than four years (on a scholarship, not a good idea). Well it turns out that this has been my favorite class, ever, since starting college, high school... we got to work with a cadaver last Thursday and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. So I think I might actually want to do pre-med. I'm not completely sure about it though :/ ANYWAY. My university recommends about fifteen "pre-med" classes, which I could take on top of my Accounting major (might have to stay an extra semester or two, still not sure about that). Would med schools not take me seriously if I majored in Accounting, and got a certificate in LGBTQ Studies, which seem to hint more toward law school, but still take the required classes? Since this is all a relatively new idea I'm sure about anything of this or what needs to be done. I might try to volunteer at a hospital or something. Ideally, I think I might want to be an obstetrician. more

Voting Question: Will MIT consider my application or just throw it out?

So MIT is my dream school. And I know I'm asking the same question as a lot of people, but I don't care. I'm not worrying about getting in or not because it's too stressful and I have a lot of options otherwise. I'm number 11 in my class of 350 or so. I have close to a 4.0 (at least a 3.8 or so) unweighted. I take all the honors courses available. I'm going to be in AP Calculus, AP English, AP Biology, Physics Honors, French 3 Honors, and Economics ENR (enriched, basically College Prep.). I love biology and I have a passion for it. I'm in FBLA and I'll be President or VP next year. I am in the school's science club and I'm doing research soon, then entering a science fair for my state next year. I am starting my school's FIRST Robotics Team this year, to compete next year. I am in Mu Alpha Theta (Honors Math Society). I know I have to nail the SAT's and I'm preparing for them now. I am also going to start a program at my town's nursing home, specifically where people can bring in their dogs and elevate the spirits of the residents. I am the captain and number 1 seed for the tennis team and I have been since freshman year. I love to read, play tennis, cook, play other sports, and study history. I feel like I'm starting late in terms of extracurriculars and whatnot but the ones I have are very solid. Will they just throw my application out the window or have some general interest in me? Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: How hard is it to become a nurse anesthetist?

Well how hard is it to become a crna I know I have to be a rn first but how hard is it to actually to get into a crna program like what kind of gpa would I need to get into it? And is it easy to find a job as a crna I hear from sites that it's easy but I would like to hear from actual people. Also what kind of schooling is there in a crna program? And lastly how are the hours of a crna are they like regular nurses long and not flexible hours or are they completely better once you become a crna? more

Open Question: Biomedical research and CNA job?

This summer, I hope to complete a biomedical research program, but I also want to work as a CNA at a nearby nursing home. In the future, I hope to become a medical doctor [I'm a high school junior by the way] and so I want to gain as much experience as possible. Should I do both 'jobs' and work 4 hour shifts at the nursing home in the evenings? Or should I focus my summer on the biomedical research experience? more

Voting Question: Are DNP(Doctor of Nursing Practice) and Nurse Practitioner the same thing?

I want to be a Nurse Practitioner once I get my BSN but when I look up results for schools in my area that have the program, I'm either shown Nurse Practitioner or DNP. So I was wondering if they were the same thing or if there were any variations between the two? more

Open Question: Can anyone check my scholarship essay? Helpies!!!?

My name is Viangkaeo Lee. I’m applying for this scholarship because I want to get a better education in the future. I personally believe that I will do better in my education and will hardly work to keep my grade point average of 4.0. In addition, I also believe that I am deserving of the award. With this award, I will be able to continue my education toward college, and become a nurse. As a student in middle school, I continue to push myself so that I can always grow as a person. Some of my goals are to get good grades, graduate from high school and attend college. I want to go through my high school graduation ceremony and officially attend college with a major in the medical field. Ever since I could remember, I have always wanted to help people to a certain extent. My career goal is to become a nurse. I am empathetic, patient, flexible, and hardworking. By majoring in medical field, I feel that I will be able to utilize my caretaking skills. I migrated from Thailand to the United States of America on November 3rd, 2004. Although I found myself in a new complexity world with a challenging language that I have to learn from basic, I believe that I can face the challenge of achieving my career with my other spoken language, Hmong. On top of this, I am a student who excels in my education. Because I have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0, I am a member of the Rivera Middle School Library Club, a member of Rivera Middle School Club Live, and also in association of the Rivera Middle School Advance Math Class. One of my biggest achievements is being a member of the 2009 G.R.E.A.T. Summer Program which I provided assistance to my community and help to prevent gang involvement. With this organization, I acted as a role model for my society and school to make it a better place. My short-term career goal consists of successfully graduating college with my Bachelor of Science Degree. Within this short-term goal I will also achieve my long-term goal which is to become a nurse. I want to hone my skills as a graduate nurse to help the community to become a better healthcare place. I have chosen nursing because this particular field will help me to develop my clinical skills, not just that, I will also be able to save lives, and shines through in my caretaking skills. I have encountered many difficulties in life; this is one of the reasons for my vigorous need to help care for others and save lives. My goals and life plans have always inspired me to do my best and I will continue on pushing myself to excel. more

Voting Question: Pros and Cons of SF State University?

I'm trying to transfer from DVC to UCLA or SF State next year for their nursing programs (I'm hoping to get into UCLA but their program only accepts about 50 people a year, so SF is my back-up). As far as SF State goes, I've been to the campus and it was alright. For those people that go/went there, what do you think about the 1. Professors 2. Students 3. Overall campus living 4. Value of the education and anything else you have to say about ANYthing regarding the school is greatly appreciated :) more

Voting Question: what is nursing school like?

Sorry this is bit long but I have a lot of questions thanks. If a actual nursing student could answer these questions that would be great thanks! Well I'm currently in my first year in college and I'm a biology major (almost done with my first year) but I'm starting to think of transferring to nursing. My school has a nursing program so it will be easier for me but I was reading the classes that i would be required to take but I'm a little confused. On some courses it say theory=2 credits, clinical=2 credits what does that mean? for those classes do I have to do more than just go to the class and lab? I also want to know what I would expect when i start nursing classes like are they just like lecture classes?(like power points and reading and memorizing a lot) and do I have to do a lot of homework and essays in these classes? Also how are the labs I believe I'll have to take about 5-6 labs to finish this degree are these labs like bio and chem labs or completely different? Also I keep hearing that for people who want to be nurses they have to sign this really long waiting list for something idk but if it is true what is the waiting list for? thanks again and please be detailed Oh and one more question lol I'm interested in becoming a CRNA but when I go to the schooling to get my masters for this what kind of classes will I have to take and what will have to do during this process? more

Voting Question: Unemployment and school?

I recently found out that the job I've had for 11 years will be ending in June. They are down sizing. I want to go back to school to be a nurse and thought this might be a good time to do so. The classes that I know I can get in start in July. It's a two year program for an associates degree. I don't have a degree of any sort now. I've never had any experience with unemployment do I don't know if I can go to school and receive unemployment. I live in North Carolina. My employer told me that they'd do whatever they could to help me get unemployment. Does anyone have any information about this. Thanks for your help! more

Voting Question: Is UGA's nursing school good?/ What is the best nursing school in Georgia?

One of my friends wants to know. She wants to go to nursing school and she's currently signed up to go to Georgia Southern but she is afraid that they will lose their nursing program from the budget cuts. So I suggested UGA cause I go there and just as a side answer I'm curious to see how good our nursing program is. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Am i too old to pursue this career?

I am 30 years old who recently completed his ged. I made some very poor choices when I was younger and dropped out of school. I have wasted 12 years of my life working dead end jobs that were far from making ends meet. I recently enrolled in a university where I will be pursuing becoming an RN. I was wondering about becoming a CNRA. After you complete your bachelors in science of nursing (BSN) you need 1 year in an acute setting hands on (preferrably PACD). Then after that you need to get accepted into the masters and nurse anesthesia program. By the time I finish my BSN and complete 1 year hands on I will be 35 or maybe 36. Would they even consider you at this age and also with a ged? If they did than this means I would be 38 or 39 when I finish. Is this something I should pursue or hang it up and try something else?I regret everyday not finishing school and doing this then, but I feel that after being out in the real world and seeing how diffucult life really is, it makes me better prepared for my journey as I know what this really means for my future. Failure is NOT an option. I WILL complete this!!!!! more

Voting Question: How do I combine two different GPAs from two different colleges?

I graduated from college 1 with a GPA of 3.63 with 127 hours. After I graduated I decided to go back to school for nursing and before I do this I had to take some science classes at the local community college. My GPA for these classes from college 2 was a 4.0 with 14 hours. I did get accepted to college 3 (different from college 1 and 2) and into their nursing program for the Fall semester. The lady I spoke to at the college of nursing told me that she recalculated my college 1 GPA with my GPA from college 2. Before I call and wait and try to get an answer, I was wondering if anyone can help me and tell me how they calculated my new cumulative GPA? Reason why I'm asking: I'm currently in A&P II at college 2 and want to know how much a B+ will drop my new calculated GPA (if I can't pull off this A :/ )Well, people are telling me I don't, but this is what the college told me they did and they did tell me it did increase my GPA for the application review . I'm just curious as to what calculation they used. more

Open Question: I need help choosing a cereer!?

Im in 9th grade right now and i was offered two programs, one to take college classes while in 10th grade and another one to go to summer school. In both of them i had to write an essay describing what career i wanted and i don't know what i want to study. My favorite subjects in school are math and science.I get As and Bs in math and science . I love animals. I was thinking of choosing a career that involves working in a hospital or with animals but there are so many options, different types of doctors and nurses, vets, zoologist and more. I want a career where you don't need many years of college.what do you recommend? Is there a website where i could take a quiz for free to help me choose a career? more

Resolved Question: I might go back to college to get a 2nd degree. Which would be the best 4 year degree to ensure a job?

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics this past December with really good grades. I entered the Master of Science in Economics program and I am currently in the first semester of the program. I am quickly finding that there aren't that many positions out there that will take Economics majors. If they are, then they are the typical crappy career fair jobs you see every year. I am putting a lot of thinking into this, but I am considering going back to school to get another, more viable 4 year degree. One of those degrees you get and know which profession you're going into like a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. I am contemplating going back to get a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and would be done by the time I am 26 (complete the program by Fall 2013) and hopefully could get my Professional Engineer license by 30. Is this a good idea? I already have all of the math out of the way for the engineering major. I have taken Calc 1-3 and Differential Equations. The only problem is that the program is set up in such a way that it takes 3-4 years to complete regardless. What do you think about going back to get a second degree? more
