Open Question: American Career College Vocational Nurse program?
Has anyone taken this VN program at American Career College? Did you learn a lot? Did you get a decent job after graduating? Is the tuition expensive? Eventually i want to become an RN, but not now. The hospital that my mom works for has this great program in which they'll pay their current LVNs to go back to school to become an RN. They pay the tuition. I was thinking of taking an LVN program at a community college but getting in is the hard part. You have to take this class called Nursing 101 and you have to be the top 45 in that class in order to get into the LVN program, 45 out of 200. At a different community college you have to take Anatomy, Physiolgy, english class, and Microbiology (takes 1 year) and then you qualify for the LVN program, but you still have to go through the lottery process and once you get into the program it takes another year. I just want to become an LVN already haha. moreOpen Question: I need help!!!I need to pay for CNA program I want to attend!!?
Hi I will be attending Pittsburg Adult Education I will be taking Certified Nurse Assistant Classes, the orientation is on Jan.20 and classes start in may, the fee is $550.00 and the Lisence test is $85.00, the only problem i'm running into is how am I going to pay for these fees? I'm not working right now but i'm trying to get a job at one of the local hospitals where I live in Antioch, CA, that way I could get some hands on too, the school does not accept FASFA its not a college its a program you just take the assesment test, pay and get into I'm looking into places that may pay for this like employment develop department or cal works is there any other places that anyone know of please I need all the help I could get I would highly appreciate your help thank you. My goal is to become a RN because I want to make a difference in the world I'm not just screwing around this is a stepping stone for me to start off as. moreOpen Question: What should I do about my vocation?
I'm in graduate school right now (straight from u-grad), working on another degree and while I love the field I'm in, I'm not sure that I want to stay in the program. I feel like God is calling me to do something else because I am not happy at all. The career that I am pursuing is boring, isolated and not something I absolutely strive for anymore. While I love to learn, I want to learn something that I can apply to people's lives and to help them. Basically I think I've met some people in the program who have discouraged me along the way, one who I almost considered a mentor. She basically told me she didn't like my writing style and has given me low grades and I have been distraught ever since. Another guy who I recently discovered is the love of my life is also having problems too and feels frustrated with another person in the program who has issues with him.So this guy is someone who is probably going to marry me and I feel like giving up and trying another careerattending another school. If I do leave the program, that means that I probably will leave him or he will leave me. I really don't want to leave this man and I love him soooo much! I truly believe that God wants me to marry this man, which is why I dont want to leave the program, but I'm not happy here and I don't feel like I'm getting what I want from it. While I have a degree in the Humanities, I have always been interested in working either as a counselor, therapist, or in medicine. I've recently considered being a counselor, physical therapist, doctor or a nurse. I'm trying to figure out what I should do and pray to God that everything will work out. Your advice is greatly appreciated! Well, basically what I'm saying is that if I leave the program, then I might end up leaving my true love that I believe God has given to me. The man that I love is working on his MA/PhD and wants me here to stay for my PhD, but I've just started working on my master's and I don't like it here. It's hard to tell him that because he's from there and I'm basically from across the country. If I leave the program, it's possible that our relationship won't work because of the long distance. I think God brought me there just so I could meet him because within four months of knowing this guy, he tells me that he wants to have his children. And this guy is reserved for the most part. I can defintely see us getting married soon, but I'm just so scared that I'll lose him if I leave. moreOpen Question: Have you taken an A&P class online?
The class is full at most schools I have looked into. The only other option is to take it online or try to get in next semester. This is the ONLY class I can take right now because it is the last prerequisite I need to get into the nursing program. I have heard it is near impossible to make above a C because it is more difficult "teaching yourself" this course... My questions are: Have you taken Anatomy and Physiology online? How do you participate in the "lab" portion of the course online? What do you study? Definitions? Are there 3-D models/pictures? What can I expect from an online A&P course? What other information can you tell me that may help me make a decision on whether or not to take this class online or to hold off on school this semester and hope for the A&P class next semester...? My computer is a little slow, but it works. I am nervous about relying on a machine to help me complete my A&P course... I know nothing about online classes, and A&P is a difficult class to take in person, let alone online... I'm just trying to get as much information as possible before making a decision. Thanks so much for your answer. moreOpen Question: nursing school from LPN to RN?
Hi i am a new grad LPN, and its hard finding a job in new york so i am thinking about to go back to school for RN, does anyone know a school in new york, that has the program from LPN to RN?????????? moreOpen Question: I am a stay at home mom wanting to return to school/work. I am looking for scholarship opportunities.?
I have taken the last 10 years off to raise a family. I have a BSW and a MSW but really want to pursue a career in nursing (all my work experience had been in medical social work). I am wondering if anyone knows some good resources for a mom returning to the workforce/school as far as scholarship opportunities or some good scholarships in the nursing field. I have already applied and been accepted in a nursing program to begin in the fall. Based on my past education, I only need three core classes and then I can start clinicals. I really want to get going but money is a factor for me right now with 5 kids. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! moreOpen Question: Which career should I choose?
I can't decide if I want to major in nursing or accounting? These are the courses I have taken so far... Anatomy and Physiology 1 Anatomy and Physiology 2 Chemistry Microbiology Introduction Algebra Pre-calculus Trigonometry Business calculus English Composition 1 English Composition 2 English Literature 1 English Literature 2 Principles of Accounting Psychology Human Growth and Development Political Science Ethics Art Appreciation Statistics That's all the classes I can remember right now. I have been in school since Fall 2006 and I have no clue what to do? Next semester I have to choose between one of these two options. Business Law Economics Calculus Principles of accounting 2 or Principles of Biology Calculus First Aid Nutrition I can apply for the nursing program for Fall 2009 but I may not be accepted. If I go for accounting I will go during the summer. I would graduate in Spring 2011 for Nursing or Summer 2010 for accounting. Both of these degrees are bachelors. I'm really worried I need to decide soon before it's too late. I can't keep going back and forth between the two because I am on financial aid and have alot of loans to pay back. I don't know which one to choose any ideas anybody? Thanks, moreOpen Question: ADN vs BSN?? Which Should I Choose?
I need some advice from anyone who is a nurse (preferably). I am a student at a private university in florida. this is my 3rd year in, and i just finished my fall semester. It's been really hard for me to choose what I want to do, but i decided on nursing at the end of my sophomore year. i have to do a year of pre-reqs, and wouldn't be able to apply to the nursing program until spring of 2010. but here's the problem. It would take me a total of 6 years to complete my bachelor's degree. my school costs about $35,000 a year and i've already reached about $27,000 in loans i've taken out through financial aid. and seeing that i'll need to pay for an additional two years, and due to the fact that i have a limit of $45000 of federal loans i can borrow, i will not be able to afford my school to be able to finish. I have two options: go back home and attempt to enroll in a university's nursing program, or attend a community college and get my ADN, and later go back to school and enroll in a RN to BSN program. I'm leaning towards the latter idea because i would finish earlier, and what i would pay per year at a CC is what I have to pay out of pocket for one semester at the school i attend now. I've also been doing some research and found that the ADN is the most popular way RN's receive their licensure, and that people with there BSN's make the same or little more than someone with just the ADN. I feel like i've wasted time in the school i'm in now, and my goal is to finish as quickly as possible because i'm ready to get into the working world and be on my own. moreOpen Question: I am trying to obtain my RN degree, is it better to obtain a LPN license first and then go to a RN? ?
I am going to school for a RN and I have about 6 classes left before I am able to register for the nursing program. I have encountered 2 problems the first being that I have taken all the easy and quick classes in the beginning and is now left with the hard ones I have 3 biology classes an elective a math and a CNA to obtain. The second issue is that getting into the nursing program is hard it can take up to a few years possible. At this time I can't attend classes at this school because I owe them some money so I don't want to sit out for a semester so what should I do and which is the best method? I am looking for a response from either someone that is educated in this field has been there or is an RN please email me at yolanda1983@comcast.net Thank u moreOpen Question: Have you taken Anatomy and Physiology online?

I am almost done with my first semester of my sophomore year in my bachelors in nursing program, and I do not like it. We already started clinicals and it was boring! I am a nursing assistant now part time and going to school full time in the nursing program and I do not like either. I have already taken 1.5 years of school... some courses taken are: Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry, INtro to communication, intro to psychology, government, intro to sociology, history,Math-algebra, and some nursing classes. What other major could I do with those classes already taken? I hate to waste my time and effort, but I know I will not be happy doing nursing. Thanks!! I was considering dental hygiene, but there is nothing nearby that does not have a huge wait list. I even talked to my school counselor and they acted clueless. I do not know what my options are, all I know is I feel trapped. UDM's course catalog just have classes available, not classes required for a certain program. Any Ideas? moreOpen Question: What are the differences between a nurse practitioner and a clinical nurse specialist?
I am a nursing student, and am looking at graduate school programs, as I will be graduating next year. Two programs I am interested in are the nurse practitioner program and the clinical nurse specialist programs..but what are the differences between the two, because they both seem quite similar in the descriptions I have read? Also, how do those two differ from a physicians assistant? Also, if anyone would know the salary ranges for those, it would be appreciated! moreOpen Question: I am in school now to become a surgical tech. what do i do next to become a First assistant?

I am in school to be a Registered Nurse and last week I took the Nursing Entrance Exam but I don't think I passed it. I have always wanted to be an RN and I am very scared that I won't be able to pass the nursing exam. I have to pass it in order to get in the nursing program. First of all, English is my third language and I have a hard time understanding the "big words" sometimes. I can write very good in English but when it comes to vocabulary, it is difficult for me. Can any of you tell me if there's a website where I can practice taking the nursing exam? I was wondering if i can get into CSU Long Beach or the other schools i described above with my current GPA and SAT scores? My CSU GPA is 3.4 UC is 3.3 SAT:1590 (still havent recieved scores for october test) ACT:22 SAT II: Waiting for scores I have taken 4 AP/Honors Courses in so far and am currently taking AP Econ, AP Lit, and AP Gov (next Semester) and will most likely be getting a 3.7-4.0 on my semester report card for senior year. I am aware that UC Davis doesnt have a nursing program but will have one in 2012. Im really stressing out over this and just need some reassurance. moreVoting Question: All nurses and nursing majors...help needed!!?
I am currently in nursing school, and this is the first semester that I had clinicals. I'm a junior, and i'm done with all of my pre-req courses. I flunked 2 courses really badly this semester..and for my school, you can't repeat more than 2 courses or you're out of the program. So now I am really unsure about where to go from here. If I do retake these classes, there is a huge possibility I could run into a harder class up ahead but then I wouldn't be able to retake it and i'd be forced to leave the program. My only option left is a change of major. I would want to do something where all my previous classes and credits won't go to waste, meaning I don't want to do something completely different like Psych for example. What is something that I could do within the healthcare field where my credits will still count? Please don't say Pharmacist or a doctor because those will be too difficult for me, keep in mind that I have flunked nursing school so I need something that's either easier, or equally hard as nursing, not something that's harder. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! moreVoting Question: nursing school required GPA?
hi guys, I am bio major student who just finished all the requirement to graduate with B.S. Bio. However, I found out that Bio major is bad to find a decent job so I want to start again as a nursing major. I heard that it's very competitive to enter. It says minimum GPA to apply is 3.0 but I am sure people with 3.0 can't get in. I have 3.839 GPA from community college and 3.66 from 4 yr university. What's my chance of entering a nursing program? moreVoting Question: I have tried and tried to make it work?
I am in a relationship that i dont think it will work out. And i am feeling very bad because i am the kind who always try to make things work. I met this girl at my first job, i am not sure how we ended up together! she was having problems with her bf when i met her, so i felt like she needed help, so i offered my friendship. she is a lot younger than me. But since then she is attached to me. We have really nothing in common. I went to Unversity, she didnt even finished high school. She came from very bad parenting who just divorced when i met her, they used to beat up each others, a very rocky relationship. I had broken up with her before, she was so devasted that somehow i started feeling bad. So i wasnt sure if that feeling was love or what! So i decided to get back to her and give her a chance maybe i could help her change. Me and my Missions!!! just to mention i used to be a big brother so i used to assist and help kids. So i decided to make her my mission. So after 6 months we decided to move in together. After living with her for about 8 months i have realized that , It wouldnt work out because she is not well domesticated, she can't keep a job, i havent been able to save any money since i have met her. she doesnt have any potential, she doenst have a strong personality, she is just pretty thats it. after the 8 months living together , i started telling her that i wanted us to separate temporarely until i finished school since i wanted to go back to finish one year in programming, and maybe she will go back to school too, I also used to tell her mom about ours plans to seperate temporarely. She got scared, she used to tell me all these promises how she will make things work and she will ty to change. and become more of a team player in the relationship. So after 10 months she announced to me that she was pregnant. I told her that i wasnt ready for a kid and especially her since she didnt even know where Berlin was? lol! she decided to keep the kid no matter all the nasty fights after that. Me being the good person that i am, i started giving in. Now we have a beautiful son but it still isnt working with her, i am not able to finish my school because she still a looser cant get a job,So i am stuck working my ass off to make enough money. Now she is trying to go back to school and have the goverment pay for it. She wasnt even able to get accepted for what she wanted to study : nursing. She didnt qualify during the tests. so she will be doing something else she doenst even like nad will make less money. At home nothing changed, i am always working my ass to bring all the money in the house. since she doesnt make any. and she wont cover me in the house . we've been always living in a messy house since i am always working to make enough money and do also the house work when i have time. I will give her credit on the fact that she takes care of our son. I have never thought i will find myself in a similar situation. I would like to end the relationship with her because i am very unhappy but on the other hand i dont want my kid to suffer and i know that she wont be able to take care of him alone financially, I am the one that provides everything. I will not be able to look at myself in the mirror later if that my son someday blames me for anything. But what to do i am so unhappy. I know that in life we dont love but we have to become love. But she hasnt become love to herself yet, i dont think so !! She has so may personnality problems. I regret accepting her in my heart. At this stage i rather just be alone than be stay in this relationship. I really dont know what to do. PLEASE HELP ME ANYONE...!! moreVoting Question: CNA program starting in January. Any help?

I applied as an undergraduate to 6 UC schools and i put my major as enviornmental science in all of them... However, I really want to go into nursing, which only uci and ucla offer. And they have super competetive programs which required supplements in addition to the regular application. So, since I wanted to increase my chances of getting in to these schools, I put my major as environmental science.... Now I'm wondering, is it really hard to change your major at these two schools from environmental science to nursing? Or is it so competetive and so few spaces that I barely have a chance? Ive heard of so many people changing majors, even when trying to get their Master's Degree, so i assumed it was easy, but now I 'm not sure Please help me! Thx! moreResolved Question: is a registered nurse career good?
well im attending a community college at the moment and i think i want to major in nursing. I like to work with people and i can handle things like blood and harsh stuff. Im already looking at different universities where i can get a BSN but im kinda confused after seeing a couple of websites of people saying that its not as good as it seems. is this true?? what is the nursing program like?? how long is it? any good schools? is it really that stressing? Is it too much work and not enough pay? Any help??? moreResolved Question: Working and Nursing School!?
Hello everyone, I am new here. I have been wanting to be a nurse since high school. I have started, then stopped, then started again. I have been off and on in school since 2003. My first two semesters, I did great, i had a 4.0. Well I stopped for about a year, then went back and started taking more of a course load while working part time. Well I was young, wanted have money and hang out, so i slacked off on school. Me and my then boyfriend moved out when we were 20, so it was no going back home now. Since then we have a three year old and we have a mortgage. I have attempted to go back to school twice since my daughter was born, but work has always come first. Now that we just purchased a home in July 07, I MUST work. I desperately would like to go back to school. I am shooting for beginning in Aug. 09. I will have to get a lot of pre-req's out of the way, so i know i can do this around my work schedule. When and if I get accepted to the nursing program, that will be my 9-5, which means i will need to get an evening/weekend job. I need all the input i can get. Is this realistic, or should i just accept that school isn't for me right now. THANKS moreVoting Question: What are the chances of me getting into my program of study?
Im a radiology major but im on the verge of making a C in the first anatomy. I know this will look bad when i try to get into my program in April. However , i do have a year of volunteer work in a radiology department at a hospital and all my other grades are A's mostly with a few B's. I will be getting everything done in one year. I have my CNA license and have worked in a nursing home. Along with that program in high school i completed diet and nutrition emp 100 and medical terminology. I have all my cpr certifications. Hello, all: I am a middle-aged American man seeking a career change. I would like to study nursing, but there are some problems with nursing schools in the US: 1. Prerequisites: varies, as little as 9 credit hours to as many as 30. 2. Wait list: local community colleges have wait lists from 1-2 years, and a student must complete prereq's *before* being placed on the wait list. With one year of prereq's, two years of waiting, and two years of the nursing program, I'm looking at becoming an RN five years from now. This is entirely too long. To bypass the impossibly-slow, five-year plan, I am seriously thinking about moving to the Philippines for a couple of years to complete nursing school. Here are my questions: 1. What is the visa process for Americans wanting to study in the Philippines? 2. Are Philippine nursing schools open to Americans? 3. How much is tuition per year? I'll have a place to live. I just need tuition figures as expressed in PHP, if possible. 4. I will soon have a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts. Can I bypass the general education requirements and go right into the core of the nursing program, possibly completing it in two years? 5. Are the courses taught in Tagalog (Philippine language) or English? 6. Are there wait lists similar to the US? Thanks for your help in advance, Flotsam Jetsam not my real name, of course, but often feel it is entirely appropriate :-) moreResolved Question: what is the fastest way to become a cna and do u know of any good schools that offered any programs 4 nursing?

I am an LPN trying to earn my BSN through The College Network partnered with Indiana State University. I would really love any feedback regarding this, or any online program that anyone has had experience with. Thanks! . I know the college network is not a school nor do they award degrees, but provides module study guides in order to 'test out' for the pre-req's, then my credits will be applied to the BSN program at ISU for completion of the degree program there inculuding the final nursing courses and clinicals. The question I am asking is if anyone out there has used this method, is it reputable, is it professional, etc? Is The College Network reputable? Reliable? I plan to contact my state board of nursing tomorrow and see if they have any information as well. Just want to see if anyone else has used this method!! moreVoting Question: First quarter of college?
I recieved three C's. In high school I had a GPA of 3.78ish. But I really screwed up my first quarter in freshman year. Do colleges like to see that your improving? Im in a junior college and my college is transfer to a university and then go through the nursing program. But is this okay? I mean I feel really crappy about these grades but would I be good if I "kick it into 2nd gear" next quarter and get really good grades? moreResolved Question: what public, or cuny/suny schools have Nursing programs?

How hard is it to get in? What are the prereqs? Is it really a better program than most schools? how so? moreResolved Question: Goat Pregnancy Questions?
Ok, I know next to nothing about goats and am trying to research like crazy. I run a large horse stable and the local SPCA came to me asking me to take in two mini goats they rescued from a slaughter house. They are not pygmy goats... The "mom" goat is all white and about knee-height on me... The "baby" is almost as big (no longer nursing) and is all white except for her head and her four feet & ankles. My vet is a horse vet so only knows a little about goats from vet school. We worked out a feeding program for them and got the dewormed. They seem to be happy and healthy and putting on weight. However, the "mom" goat has put on a LOT more weight. He udder is not very big though (when the 'baby' stopped nursing it got smaller and has stayed that size). We had the vet ultrasound her and she is pregnant with at least 3 (possibly 4) babies. However, we have NO IDEA when she was bred. She put most of her weight on over the past 3 weeks, but her personality has not changed much. The babies seems pretty well developed with all their bones and such.... So here are my questions: I have heard it is dangerous to have more than 2 babies - what are the chances they will all survive? Since mine are "minis" I have also heard it is dangerous for her to be bred to "full size" goats but we don't know... What if she has been? Is it dangerous? How big will the babies get? Do I have to seperate her from her older baby? I doubt it will try to nurse, but it was never dehorned so it has little 3/4 inch horns and I don't want it to hurt the babies..... How and when do you castrate the babies (I don't want any more after this!!) How and when do you dehorn them??? Thanks in advance for any info or weblinks you can provide! moreVoting Question: What kind of schooling will I need to become a nurse in the NICU?
I am looking for a school that offers an ASN (Associates of Science in Nursing) degree, that would be about 2 years, but all I can seem to find are AASN (Associates of Applied Science in Nursing) degrees, which I read somewhere do not meet the criteria to enter the RN-BSN program. Which is what I would like to do afterwards. I would go straight for the BSN program but I did not take my ACTS or SATs, and I do not believe my GPA would be good enough to go straight into a program like that. Can someone please help me figure out how to go about this situation? thank you so much! moreResolved Question: Pentagon to recruit aliens?
WASHINGTON – Struggling to find enough doctors, nurses and linguists for the war effort, the Pentagon will temporarily recruit foreigners who have been living in the United States on student and work visas, or with refugee or political asylum status. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has authorized the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps to recruit certain legal residents whose critical medical and language skills are "vital to the national interest," officials said, using for the first time a law passed three years ago. Though the military previously has taken recruits with green cards seeking permanent residency, Gates' action enables the services to start a one-year pilot program to find up to 1,000 foreigners who have lived in the states legally for at least two years on certain types of temporary visas. The new recruits into the armed forces would get accelerated treatment in the process toward becoming U.S. citizens in return for serving in the wartime military in the United States or abroad. "The services are doing a tremendous job of recruiting quality personnel to meet our various missions," sometimes with bonus pay and tuition for medical school, said Bill Carr, deputy undersecretary of defense for military personnel policy. But they haven't been able to fill their need for 24,000 doctors, dentists and nurses in the Defense Department. The Pentagon's doctor and nurse corps remain 1,000 short of the numbers needed to treat patients, and Carr said he hoped the program would fill the gaps. The military's most pressing need is for neurosurgeons and dermatologists to treat troops coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan with brain and burn injuries caused by insurgents' wide use of roadside bombs and suicide bombs. The force also lacks nurses with a broad range of specialties, Carr said. It also needs people with special language and cultural skills for a war on terrorism that has taken the armed forces across the globe. Though the military has been looking for more Arabic speakers and others to help with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the new program looks to recruit speakers of some three dozen languages, including Albanian, Korean, Punjabi, Somali and Turkish. The effort to find the recruits begins early next year. If there is a need for more recruits in the future, it would take a new authorization, Carr said. Of the 1,000 new people, at least a third must be medical professionals, Carr said. "It is exceptional, limited, vital," he said of the effort. The linguists are to be used in a broad range of military jobs — as infantrymen, seamen and military police. Those with the best language skills would be used in intelligence fields. The armed forces have used foreigners since the War of 1812 — over the years some 700,000 have served. But because of the counterterrorism war begun after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America, President George W. Bush signed an executive order in 2002 making foreigners who join the military eligible to apply immediately for citizenship. They essentially go to the head of the line among citizenship applicants, having their cases processed in about three years as opposed to the five years it takes others, Carr said. There are now 29,000 non-citizens in uniform today, Carr said, with about 8,000 more enlisting every year. He expects that among those who will be interested in the new effort are doctors with work visas who are working at hospitals around the country, a program aimed at tackling shortages among U.S. medical professionals. The military has never recruited non-green card holders, but a law passed three years ago lets them do so when it is determined to be vital to the national interest. On Nov. 25, Gates declared that to be the case for the purpose of getting more doctors, nurses and linguists. Carr stressed that recruits will have to pass the same physical, mental and aptitude tests required of all who join the armed forces. Health care workers also will have to meet all medical professional criteria to practice, be proficient in English, and agree to enlist either for three years on active duty or six years as reservists. The linguists/culture experts will have to enlist for four years of active duty service. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081205/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/military_recruiting When will the program be effective? Is it already started? To join with a language skill, will I need a college degree or some kind of certificate? moreResolved Question: Multiple opinions please?
