Voting Question: Planning on being an RN... But Im concerned..?

I have been planning on getting into classes to get my LPN, and while doing that, taking online classes for getting my RN (the local college offers programs online)... I have the drive, and Im excited about getting a new, comfortable and less stressful life for my son and I. I do, however, have some concerns about the schooling. When it comes to studying, I have a bit of a problem concentrating. I feel that I have to read the words out loud so that I know Im focusing on whats in front of me, but even then, when I finish a paragraph, I look away from the book and try to remember what I just read, and sometimes, I completely forget.. That concerns me GREATLY. BUT at the same time, when I read a regular book, I can read for hours and not want to put the book down..I mean, it has been a little over 5 years since Ive been in school, so do you think that could have something to do with it? That I just need to get back into the groove of studying and doing homework? I really want this, and I really need this, and I do not want my unability to concentrate ruin a potentially great life. Did you have problems like this after being out of school for some time? Please give me any and all feedback on this matter! Im so nervous! Thank you =]Ohhh yeah, I definitley know that part of life will not be less stressful! I guess what I should have said, was my life will be less stressful FINANCIALLY =D Thats my fault lol. more

Resolved Question: Which hospital job should I pursue? Medical Records or Hospital Unit Clerk, Billing, Nursing, etc...?

I was thinking of taking either the "Hospital Unit Clerk" or the "Medical Records Clerk" course which focuses on compiling, processing, and maintaining medical records of hospital & clinic patients. I would also take an "Electronic Health Records" course which teaches the theory & hands-on application needed to work in todays medical office. I was considering the "Central Sterile Technician" course, but it seems that Surgical Technicians primarily hold these jobs. After completing the above, I would then pursue either the "Medical Transcriptionist" or the "Medical Coding Certificate". Both are online courses through the school, and require an internship. I felt this field would be the best choice based on my previous experience. Although I have not worked in a medical office I was a Project Manager for Fedex Kinkos for over three years. I have strong "business/office" skills, and am a very detail-oriented, organized individual. There is also a "Certified CNA" course & a "Home Caregiver Program", and I would take both. I was thinking of pursuing the Practical Nurse program next fall, since I would only need 9 classes. However, I don't know if I can handle collecting blood or administering IV's, if required. For some reason, the idea has always bothered me. However, I know I could earn more as an LPN, and maybe this fear of "pricking others" would pass. What would your advice be? I am seeking a position that is in demand, and pays at least 30K. Should I take the Hospital Unit Clerk or the Medical Records Clerk course, and then take Medical Coding or Medical Transcription. Or should I continue to consider the LPN route. Honestly, I would be happiest in an office environment doing clerical tasks.Or should I perhaps consider the Medical Assistant program, instead of the Medical Coding certificate. What would look better to a potential employer, and is the earning potential the same? more

Resolved Question: i'm planning to go back to school i need to take an entrance exam where can i go online to study to take it .?

hey i am going back to school next year and im very excited i have been dancing around the whole idea of going back and saying i don't have the money. but after one dead end job after another and doing my managers jobs on top of my own job and not getting paid extra for it ..i think it is time for a change my mother is a head nurse of course she wants me in the nurse field and my fascination with learning about diseases and watching surgery videos i should go into the medical field.. my mother knew i would end up in the medical field one day she told me when i was little i would cut open lizards and stitch them back together .. i kno i was weird child lol i love animals guys i was young i was curious i have many pets that i spoil.. .. so i am planning to go to a 18 month program for LPN then work and pay my way to get my RN .. i am going to a school in manhattan ... i need to take a entrance exam and maths is not my friend at all but i am determined to better my self ... because i love to work and make money and yes i am workaholic so i have been searching websites after websites for books and online websites to help me study for the exam and also if i get into the school websites that can help learn even more things and excel in school ... so does anyone know any free websites that help with nursing or LPN testing and learning more while in the class... please help thanks i would really appreciate it thank you.. more

Voting Question: LPN wanting to become NP?

I'm asking this question for my mom so bare with me lol. She is already an LPN and has been working for 18+ years. Resolved Question: What is better to do LPN or RN?

So ever since i was young i wanted to be in the medical field. And ever since my cousins passed away which would be this week i finally decided i wanted to be a nurse. I want to start college early since I'm only 15 and graduating hopefully by the end of this year or next year because i take online classes and i guess you could say I'm smart. I've been looking up to become a CRNA. But i wanted to take some classes close to home before i leave for USC or a better college. So i would be attending MCC. The Programs they offer are Allied Health Nursing - 2 year ADN and the outcome would be i would have my degree in RN. But if i took Allied Health Nursing - 1 year would result in becoming a LPN. which sounds better to do. I really want to become a CRNA which degree would give me more potential in becoming a CRNA. Thanks for everything ! more

Resolved Question: Is the LPN program very competitive as the RN program?

I was going to school majoring in Nursing (RN) until I changed my mind since I've moved 3 time already due to my husband being in the Army. I did have my pre-requisites finished but since we're moving again to Kansas, I cannot apply for the RN program until I finish these 2 pre-requisites that they require at this new college in Kansas. I'm depressed because I don't want to wait another year to apply and what if I don't get in? So I decided to do the LPN since I am only lacking one class that I am able to take online and it isn't too late for me to apply for the LPN program. I just need to know, is the LPN as very competitive as RN? I mean I wouldn't think so, but what's your opinion? Do you know anyone who was an LPN and went to a nursing school for RN's? Thanks more

Resolved Question: someone slap me... I want a baby.?

I'm 24 years old, my husband is 31. I'm a practical nurse and have been at my current job for a little over a year. I am already enrolled in college this fall for the lpn to rn transfer program...it will take 2 years for me to complete. The first year is simple, just 2 credit hour online nursing classes. The second year is the more difficult program, its the second year of adult nursing. Confusing I know... Anyways..enough preface heres my issue.. I want a baby. I mean I've been bitten by the bug before, but I simply...want a baby. Now. Everything I seem to do now gears towards a child. Every decision I make concerning our home is with child in mind (i.e. we need new carpet upstairs for the future nursery, we replaced our old bath tub because I couldn't picture bathing my child in our old dirty one). Initially the school I was going to told me it would only be a year for the transfer (that was while I was in my other school.) but now finding out it will be two...I just can't imagine waiting. I mean I've known about this for a year, and was sad, but dealt. Now I really can't picture waiting. I HAVE to be realistic. It would much less stressful if I would just wait... someone bring me back to reality. more

I am having trouble finding a nursing school in my area. There is also program through a school that is out of a hospital near by but should I get my pre-requ's through the online school and then apply to the RN program or just do the LPN program and try to get a job sooner? more

I just graduated the PN program and take boards next week. The thing is IDK how to go about applying for jobs and what I should be looking for. I feel like looking online is a waste because everyone wants someone with experience or an RN. Is there a way to sign with a traveling company or an organization working per diem ? or is my best bet going INTO the hospitals to apply? I dont know where to start and I am going to be starting my preReqs for RN in a couple weeks.. any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated :D thanks ! more

Resolved Question: Switching careers? Another degree?

I completed my undergrad in 2000 and I'm at a crossroads right now. My bf is encouraging me to go back to school and complete my teaching certification (I have 2 BAs and can receive certification and licensing in about 6 months). I've spent the last year substituting and trying to find my particular teaching niche, which seems to be high school English. Here's the problem - I really enjoy teaching, but there are no permanent openings in my area (relocation is not an option), and future openings are looking grim. There are, however, many job openings advertised for LPNs and nursing. I'm thinking of going back for medical assisting, finding permanent employment in the medical field, then continuing my education for either LPN or RN. Anyone familiar with how elective credits would transfer? Recommended programs (online even)? I'd be happy in either field, but the bottom line is job security and being able to pay the mortgage. Anyone out there dealt with this? Do I continue on my current teaching path and just hope for an opening? Doesn't it make more sense to pursue a career where I know there are more jobs available? Where do I go from here? more

Resolved Question: Questions for military wives/husbands who have gotten their degree while their spouse was active?

Just want to say thank you in advance. I know this is long but I have lots of questions. My husbands being deployed soon. I'm going to be moving back home and living with his parents so I can get help with our newborn. The baby will be born and then a month later he deploys. So I really want to be around family and he wants me down there. Now. I need to go to school so I can get a decent job. I really want to become a nurse. However, that schooling is two years long. So I've decided to wait until he comes back so I don't have to stop halfway through. Then I was looking into becoming an LPN...that schooling is a year long. So I'd have to stay down in FL for a few extra months. I don't really want to do that as my husband will be spending those months alone up in WA. I don't want to leave him up there alone. Especially sine he will just be getting back from deployment. He says he wouldn't mind, but this is our first deployment. So I know his feelings about that may change. So...I figured I'd go to school to become a phlebotomist (three months long) and just work while he is deployed so we can save more money. Then when he gets back go to school to become an LPN. Which will be a nice pay raise...then go to school to become an RN. I realize that this will take longer but I'd really like to become an LPN and get experience before I become an RN. My husbands mother stays at home and she said that she would love to watch the baby while I attend school or work. Which makes me feel good because I don't have to leave my child with some stranger. I can't take online classes because I need the classroom interaction. It's just how I am able to learn. OK. Now for my questions...there are a lot of them so if you can't answer all of them I completely understand. Can you get your degree even though your family is moving around so much? What are the day-cares like on base for when I return to WA? Does this plan make sense to you? Is it possible? Are there any kind of programs for military wives who are interested in nursing? I know they have one for wives who want to become teachers. Are there any specific loans or grants for military wives? I've googled it and a bunch of spam popped up... My husband says his GI Bill can cover some of my schooling. Is this true? Is this an appropriate topic to talk to the education center about? Or is the education center just for active duty persons? Are civilians allowed to draw blood in military hospitals or are all those people active duty military? more

Voting Question: Can I finish LPN school faster if i go in another state?

I was getting ready to go into an LPN program in one state, but I got married and moved to a different state thinking I would just go to LPN school here instead. Then I found out that the state requirements to go to LPN school here are much higher than where I am from, and it would take me much longer to finish the program. I live 2 hours away from my old state; it is too far for me to drive every day. I would like to go to school in my old state, but I would have to do it online and then I could drive there for my clinical training and whatever else I needed to do so I could finish quicker than I would here. But I was wondering how would I go about doing that? Would it be worth it, or should I just try to go to school in the state I live in? What do you think? more

Resolved Question: where can i get a free online lpn practice entrance exam?

Ive been searching for a free online test to prepare for the admissions test (which is less than two weeks away). Is two weeks going to be enough time to effectviely study for this test. Any help greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike more

Resolved Question: Online Colleges offering LPN program?

Ok well my girlfriend is 6 months pregnant with our daughter. She wants to start taking steps to becoming a nurse. To avoid a bunch of unhelpful answers, please understand that at this specific point of time that an online college is her only choice. Yes, a physical college is better, but until she heals up from the birth and etc, she wants to start out doing her education online. So back to the question, can anyone recommend any good, LEGITIMATE colleges that offer some kind of nursing programs? Also, can her online credits be transfered to an on campus college? more

Resolved Question: is there an Associate Degree Nursing fadeout?

I'm currently in a school that has ADN and BSN program. My school and my friends in the school are telling me that the U.S. is doing a fadeout of the LPN/ADN and slowly changing it up to BSN. My school kept encouraging me to switch to BSN. But by switching programs, I'll be in school longer and take more classes. Is it really true that an ADN phase out is currently being taken on effect and maybe I SHOULD move to BSN? And yes, I was planning on taking BSN classes online and have the hospital pay for it once I start working as an ADN. more

Resolved Question: Online Degree (LPN to BSN @ Indiana State University)?

It is very hard to get into a Registered Nurse program here in the Bay Area, CA and after doing some research found an online degree program from Indiana State University that provides online degrees for both LPN to RN and LPN to BSN. I was wondering how companies/employers feel about seeing a online degree to a regular degree on a resume and if it has any bad effects. Do people view online degrees to be lower than a regular degree? Anyone with experience or have any information I would appreciate it if you can share your thoughts. Thanks! more
