Voting Question: How can I become a LPN M-IV in Ohio?

I am currently in nursing school to become a LPN in Ohio. At the moment, I am looking at job listings to see where the jobs are being offered and what kinds of jobs are out there for an LPN. I notice a lot of them list that they need the LPN to be able to prepare medication and that the LPN needs his or her IV certification. I am going to ask my school on Monday about this, but I am curious to know if schools are usually certified to teach the IV course and medicine course. I know that we do have an IV lab and we also have a pharmacology class. I don't see the accreditation listed online for the school and the course descriptions for the two classes don't mention them as courses to prepare a student to become certified in IVs or medication administration. So basically, would the schools prepare me to become a LPN M-IV or just a LPN? Those are different license classes. (See: http://www.lpnao.org/ohio-nurses) If a school doesn't, then what schools or places would offer it? How long does it take? Would I have to become licensed before I take the classes to get the medicine and IV certification or can I take the courses and then become licensed? Do I have to graduate first before starting the certifications courses? more

My husband just one night pushed me out of bed when i was sleeping and he was on facebook. I didnt know WTF was going on, this was just out of the blue no inications before. He wouldnt let me sleep on the couch and for the next 4 months I could only sleep in my daughters room. He wouldnt let me back in the bedroom. He had turned 40 and met all his old highschool people online and even went to go see them. He told me that I was going to leave and that he wasnt my husband anymore. I WAS totally shocked. HE has just started staying at home from his work, because of less travel, Because of this I was able to find a part time job, working for a respectable university, and had applied and been accepted into nursing school...SO everything was on track for what we both had planned when he started staying home more (me to go to work for my career and him spend more time with the kids) I kept standing up for myself and 4 children told him I was not leaving that it was my house not just his and i wasnt leaving my children either.. Finally one day he got so angry when i said no that he pushed my forehead and I called the cops. they arrested him. He was let back into the house because he works from home and has office there. The trial date wasnt untill 2 1/2 months later. We went through thanksgiving , christmas estranged in the same home but still off and on having sex. He would often say that he loved me but didnt like me. The arrest had traumatized him, Having to bend over naked so they could check for drugs. I didnt feel sorry for him at all. But told him I would never do it again...( I lied I did do it again, please keep reading) He couldnt threaten or touch me during the time he was allowed back in the home. After christmas he tried to get me to leave again by agreement. I said no, he ended up getting so mad again that he grabbed me and pushed me against the wall lightly grabbed my throat (he was restraining himself) and yelled at me that he Hated me.... and wanted me to leave. (Now...side note...I have never been unfaithful in 16 years...kept my body up....dont have any friends because didnt want to make him jealous wanted to put his mind at ease while he was away from home....have been a recluse at home because I wanted to wait for him to do things with the kids...LIke boyscouuts, or football, and church.. The only thing I did was go to school got a 2yr degree and now in LPN school; Also, I was an Executive secretary for a large famous Corporation when we were first married...so I would manage his work...even though his boss didnt know.. I did a lot of contract work, including finding contracts for him...so basically work from home for my husband Everything has been for my husband!) \ SO I said I would leave, packed my stuff, he fixed my car, bought some stuff for nursing school I needed, and gave me just a little$ and I went to me moms. I was going to be back on Sunday to pick up a check I needed for school. Well I came back on Saturday instead and called told him I was there and wanted to see the kids. He blessed me out and said I was never coming back that I had LEFT the home and we were getting a separation agreement next week! WELL he was in our house because that first arrest I had let him back in to work. I could have had him arrested for what he did to me that day I had left...So three days later (sunday) I had brusies on me where he had pushed me. I had him arrested...this time It was a felony because he violated the first order not to harrase me. By this time I was thinking it was probalbly best just to leave everything and not fight it anymore. He said I have family here and he doesnt, so I have a place to go. I was tetering back and forth "why sHould I have to give up everthing when He is the one that doesnt want our family together with me anymore.. his ass should be out!" and "I dont want to rock the boat for him, I have been home for 16 years and taking care of everything while helping him getting up to where he has a big $$ job now...all the shit I put up with him and the house and kids that he didnt recognize because he was traveling..Its His turn to take over EVERYHthing that I know exists and he doesnt understand in our home.... I can now have a time for me" SO I decided I didnt want to prosecute for the second time of arrest. because he was the only way our kids could keep their lifestyle and I could keep mine.....the only way to get out of it was to prove I have some kind of mental illness.... (i dont) But I went to a psych. and convinced them I was came out with MEDs and a diagnosis. When the 2nd trial day came up they dismissed after me convincing them i had a Mental break down and didnt know which end was up because I couldnt remember what happend. ALSI, I felt horrible because I know there are other cases that are much worse than mine and lots of them deserve to be in prison and convicted. But I wanted him to stop because the second time more

Voting Question: How much schooling is required to be a CRNA?

I just read an article on EHow.com about all this schooling you have to do. But they didnt quite make it to where it made sense. PLEASE break down what exactly I need to do (please include how long it would take, also!). I didnt graduate high school because of family issues, I am in the process of getting my GED, so would that automatically take me out of becoming a CRNA? Once I get my GED, I am going to get my LPN, and while working as an LPN I plan to continue taking online courses to get my RN. Honestly, I didnt quite have any desire to get my BSN (wouldnt that take me an extra 2 years to get my BSN?) BUT, after seeing that CRNA's make boat loads of money, Im interested in getting my BSN and maybe getting into CRNA... PLEASE break this down for me! What amount of schooling do I need to do this? Resolved Question: 3 month old dad still has no intrest in her?

So i quit my job and moved in with my bf and his mom(only till the apartment we want is available in February) so he could spend more time with his daughter. We were living 30 minutes apart n he use to only spend a hour or two with her at a time. But really i am always the one that has to pyhsically wake him up or hand Kayleigh to him and force him to feed her. He works from 9pm-5am Sleeps till 12 or 1 basically whenever i starting forceing him to get out of bed. Once hes up he leaves the house(leaves me bymyself my mom is a 20 min drive from me my friends 30) He comes back whenever he feels like it n is sleeping by 6:30 till its time for work. He never really talks to her never plays with her. I dont get why she is my world my everything i literly spend 24/7 with her. He thinks cuz at the moment he supports us finacial thats enough. I was suppose to start school in January for my LPN program that takes 13mnths which i know can not do because i have no babysitter he has no idea how to take care of her at all. Im so terrifed that i will leave n go to school for 4 hours and she will be neglected n helpless cuz he wont know what to do so now i have to take online classes. I just do not get how to make him relaize hes not involved and needs to be. Our friends have a 5mnth old baby when were always with them hes always like o i cant wait till kayleigh smiles and laughs n plays. I really want to hit him over the head She smiles she laughs she plays why cant he see that? Hes always talking about wanting a boy and wanting to Kayleigh to get bigger i always tell him to enjoy her now. Shes only 3mnths old and i already miss that little baby i brought home from the hospital. I left and came to stay with my mom sunday night after we got into a huge fight he has not called once to check on her. I told him to make sure hes not late on christmas eve but part of me does not know if he is even gona show up! Which would be awful seeing im at my moms with no car my moms going out of town n wont be back till late and i am suppose to be takein my sister to my grandmas christmas party. Kayleigh always crys when him or his mom holds her. In a way i feel bad in a way i dont im really not sure what to do anymore. I more venting then anything but if any has any suggestions please let me know!I am 20 and he is 21! I graduated at 17, i took 2 years off i was working full time and spending as much time with my friends now im 20 being a mom and going to start school. Age n school has nothing to do with it. Hi I was just curious about what an LPN does? How long does the school take? Can you do online and in class work? What do LPN's make can they make a living? I'm a NAVY wife living in Oklahoma City near Tinker AFB with my hubby. I am 21 and really want to get some type of career path started for myself, I need an education! I really want to be an RN but I need something quicker like LPN. Can someone tell me who knows of the job or has experience what I can do, I work 40 hours a week off on Sundays, Mondays and most of Tuesday. Voting Question: Planning on being an RN... But Im concerned..?

I have been planning on getting into classes to get my LPN, and while doing that, taking online classes for getting my RN (the local college offers programs online)... I have the drive, and Im excited about getting a new, comfortable and less stressful life for my son and I. I do, however, have some concerns about the schooling. When it comes to studying, I have a bit of a problem concentrating. I feel that I have to read the words out loud so that I know Im focusing on whats in front of me, but even then, when I finish a paragraph, I look away from the book and try to remember what I just read, and sometimes, I completely forget.. That concerns me GREATLY. BUT at the same time, when I read a regular book, I can read for hours and not want to put the book down..I mean, it has been a little over 5 years since Ive been in school, so do you think that could have something to do with it? That I just need to get back into the groove of studying and doing homework? I really want this, and I really need this, and I do not want my unability to concentrate ruin a potentially great life. Did you have problems like this after being out of school for some time? Please give me any and all feedback on this matter! Im so nervous! Resolved Question: 5 years gone. How do i forget?

I actually hope someone reads this and can give me some advice. I met this wonderful girl 5 years ago. We both worked at a Haunted House together and we clicked right away. Her mom did not really approve because she had a bad rep with her boyfriends she would bring home. I am now 23 and she is 21. So anyways, We stayed connected after the haunted house closed for the season until February of the next year when we started sneaking around to see each other. We did this until around June when her mom was cool with me starting to come around more and be with her. We officially started our relationship on June 26th, 2006. For the first year things were amazing with her, but her parents were still a little sketchy with me. We would have to do lawn work and chores just to spend time together. Which I did without a second thought. I helped her get a job with me and my store and we eventually went to college together. We did everything a couple would do and even a little more i guess.. I guess I'll jump a head a bit. Around October 2008 she started to have feelings for a guy in our "group" of friends. He was in his mid 30's and a huge pothead. But she felt this attraction cause of the music they liked together. So she started sneaking over to see him and I ended it then because I could not take that. About 2 days later she knew it was a bad idea and cried and pleaded for me to take her back. So i did. Then in Jan she was caught flirting hardcore with another 30 yr old through texts and that again pissed me off but i did not end it. She said it was nothing. (it repeats, im sorry). Then she was talking with a guy online with another older guy and this one ended it with me and her for months. Then she came around one day and never stopped again. She bought me a promise ring and said "i want us forever". (i gave her, her promise ring on Valentines day of 07'). We decided to go to Niagara Falls and spend the weekend in July. Everything was amazing, the trip, the people, EVERYTHING! which is why i should have known it was bullshit...my phone died and i grabbed hers to tell her mom what was going on and when to expect us and I saw a text soon as i opened it. from the guy who ended our relationship previously saying "hope you are having fun in canada with lauren(being her sister). I yelled at her, packed our bags and layed in bed telling her we are leaving right away in the AM. (again long story short, did not talk and i took her back) THIS IS THE END I SWEAR: Being a couple again, she started back to school and a new job as an LPN. there she met a 42 yr old guy and I found out she was doing her flirting again. I ended it perminatly. she actually ran away from home, moved in with him. she left there because he was psycho. she moved in with her friend Jen. She called me a lot during that time and wanted to hang out. I did a couple times. Now she sees a 30+yr old with two kids, one whom he just found out was his....and we will more then likely not talk anymore... HERE IS THE THING: I want to move on. and forget he. I cry a lot to be honest. I miss her and what we had at the beginnning. I know it would never be the same if we tried. I just dont know what is going on in my head. I want her but I dont. I love her, I'm jealous and I forgive to easy and she can see right throught that i think. Resolved Question: Which hospital job should I pursue? Medical Records or Hospital Unit Clerk, Billing, Nursing, etc...?

I was thinking of taking either the "Hospital Unit Clerk" or the "Medical Records Clerk" course which focuses on compiling, processing, and maintaining medical records of hospital & clinic patients. I would also take an "Electronic Health Records" course which teaches the theory & hands-on application needed to work in todays medical office. I was considering the "Central Sterile Technician" course, but it seems that Surgical Technicians primarily hold these jobs. After completing the above, I would then pursue either the "Medical Transcriptionist" or the "Medical Coding Certificate". Both are online courses through the school, and require an internship. I felt this field would be the best choice based on my previous experience. Although I have not worked in a medical office I was a Project Manager for Fedex Kinkos for over three years. I have strong "business/office" skills, and am a very detail-oriented, organized individual. There is also a "Certified CNA" course & a "Home Caregiver Program", and I would take both. I was thinking of pursuing the Practical Nurse program next fall, since I would only need 9 classes. However, I don't know if I can handle collecting blood or administering IV's, if required. For some reason, the idea has always bothered me. However, I know I could earn more as an LPN, and maybe this fear of "pricking others" would pass. What would your advice be? I am seeking a position that is in demand, and pays at least 30K. Should I take the Hospital Unit Clerk or the Medical Records Clerk course, and then take Medical Coding or Medical Transcription. Or should I continue to consider the LPN route. Honestly, I would be happiest in an office environment doing clerical tasks.Or should I perhaps consider the Medical Assistant program, instead of the Medical Coding certificate. What would look better to a potential employer, and is the earning potential the same? more

hey i am going back to school next year and im very excited i have been dancing around the whole idea of going back and saying i don't have the money. but after one dead end job after another and doing my managers jobs on top of my own job and not getting paid extra for it ..i think it is time for a change my mother is a head nurse of course she wants me in the nurse field and my fascination with learning about diseases and watching surgery videos i should go into the medical field.. my mother knew i would end up in the medical field one day she told me when i was little i would cut open lizards and stitch them back together .. i kno i was weird child lol i love animals guys i was young i was curious i have many pets that i spoil.. .. so i am planning to go to a 18 month program for LPN then work and pay my way to get my RN .. i am going to a school in manhattan ... i need to take a entrance exam and maths is not my friend at all but i am determined to better my self ... because i love to work and make money and yes i am workaholic so i have been searching websites after websites for books and online websites to help me study for the exam and also if i get into the school websites that can help learn even more things and excel in school ... so does anyone know any free websites that help with nursing or LPN testing and learning more while in the class... please help thanks i would really appreciate it thank you.. more

Resolved Question: Is it tough being a nurse?

Im attending school shortly to get my LPN certification & the college I plan on going to offers a LPN to RN major. So while working as an LPN Im going to keep going to school to get my Associates. They offer all online courses, with the exception of labs and such, so Im figuring that it wouldnt be too hard to do that. Ive researched this a few different times, and from what I have read, I will have to do things such as med/surg for a while to get my experience before doing anything major. Is that true? What my PLAN and hope is, is that once I graduate with my RN, I can get a job as a Labor and Delivery nurse. Is that a really high hope? Is it hard getting into that area of work? Im really not all that interested in working in the ER. Would I have to do the bad work before Labor & Delivery would even consider me? I currently work as a Pharmacy Technician, and I hate my job. I get barely any hours, and I do not feel that I am paid enough for the hard work that I do. What hours/pay can I expect as both an LPN and RN? I am struggling constantly right now. I do not get paid enough at all. I can barely pay my rent, barely afford gas, and I have a son I need to take care of. Im not busting my butt for much longer at a dead end job. Labor & Delivery is where I want to be. Please, if you are a nurse, shed some light for me! One last thing, I have looked at practice NCLEX-RN, and honestly, it scares me! I know I have had no study in the field, but from what I have seen, they are fairly simple questions, with mostly all correct answers, and you have to decipher which is the best for the patient. Is the test as hard as it looks? How far in advance should I start studying for it? Thanks in advance for your time! more

I will be moving there and plan to take up nursing. I do not have any nursing experience but have over 100 credits in a different field (hence ive taken a lot of elective classes and some sciences but not much). I have been online searching for schools where they offer nursing (for those that do not have LPN or RN experience) and I have a very hard time finding one in Columbia SC. If there are online schools where I can take some of the pre reqs like chemistry, microbiology, anatomy etc.. could you please direct me there as well! I would appreciate it very much. I was going to school majoring in Nursing (RN) until I changed my mind since I've moved 3 time already due to my husband being in the Army. I did have my pre-requisites finished but since we're moving again to Kansas, I cannot apply for the RN program until I finish these 2 pre-requisites that they require at this new college in Kansas. I'm depressed because I don't want to wait another year to apply and what if I don't get in? So I decided to do the LPN since I am only lacking one class that I am able to take online and it isn't too late for me to apply for the LPN program. I just need to know, is the LPN as very competitive as RN? I mean I wouldn't think so, but what's your opinion? Do you know anyone who was an LPN and went to a nursing school for RN's? Thanks more

We were married 9 years ago. 4 years into the marriage, I went back to school for 1 year to obtain my RN degree. We had a toddler at the time. Back then he was all for my going back to school because RN's make much more $$ than LPN's. Fast forward to now. I want to return to school to get my BSN. In today's economy, I may need it in the future. I work at a small public health dept that has seen 2 nurses laid off and no one has seen a merit raise in 2 years. I am taking classes online so that I can be home, but it still requires commitment to classtime on the computer once a week, and the homework on the computer, a little every day. Every time he sees me pick up the computer he starts in with "are you on that thing again? when are you going to be done? When are you going to pay attention to me?" I also take care of the 3 kids (sure he picks them up from daycare and has them for 30min before I get home), feed them, bathe them, help with school work, do 75% of housecleaning, pay bills. Then he starts bitching why we don't have any extra money. Because he has to have the best dish network package, has to have internet which I could live without if it were'nt for classes. Now he's grumbling that he won't get any sleep because i'm either at class or on the computer, studying, or writing a paper. After it begins to upset me, he say's he's just joking and wants me to stay in school. Now I'm dropping out of school all because of the insensitive bastard. Tonight there was a voice mail on his phone from the dr office for one of the kids. When I listened to it the reception was spotty and he said go over by the window. When I went to the window he usually stands at, he yells "no this window. When you're right there and I'm standing here, a normal person would go to this one!" more

Hey everyone, I'm an LVN/LPN going into the Army as a health care specialist (68w). I just finished the future soldier training online classes and I referred somebody successfuly, however I haven't gotten my promotion yet. What really bothers me is that the friend I referred in the military didn't go to school in the US and she got promoted to E-3 and she doesn't even have a clue why. I'm beginning to think that my recruiter(s) didn't really get into looking at my transcripts because I did take some classes to get to LVN/LPN... Anyway my real question is, can I really get a promotion just by finishing and passing the future soldier classes online? And when exactly do I get promoted after my referral has already enlisted at MEPS? I'm asking online because I don't want to rely completely on what my recruiter(s) tell me. more

I'm 24 years old, my husband is 31. I'm a practical nurse and have been at my current job for a little over a year. I am already enrolled in college this fall for the lpn to rn transfer program...it will take 2 years for me to complete. The first year is simple, just 2 credit hour online nursing classes. The second year is the more difficult program, its the second year of adult nursing. Confusing I know... Anyways..enough preface heres my issue.. I want a baby. I mean I've been bitten by the bug before, but I simply...want a baby. Now. Everything I seem to do now gears towards a child. Every decision I make concerning our home is with child in mind (i.e. we need new carpet upstairs for the future nursery, we replaced our old bath tub because I couldn't picture bathing my child in our old dirty one). Initially the school I was going to told me it would only be a year for the transfer (that was while I was in my other school.) but now finding out it will be two...I just can't imagine waiting. I mean I've known about this for a year, and was sad, but dealt. Now I really can't picture waiting. I HAVE to be realistic. It would much less stressful if I would just wait... someone bring me back to reality. more

To those who went or are going to school to be a LPN: I was wondering if 1 1/2 years of school to be an LPN was about right? I read online it took 1, but i guess its different everywhere?.. But anyways, the lady at the admissions office at the school said the whole time is hands on clinicals, is that right? Also, because of money, we cant afford to get a second car, so Im pretty stuck on how to get to the hospital/clinic and back everyday.. Do people do carpools in college? if so, do they expect to get paied for gas??? I reckon if i have to, i'd borrow a car, but gosh this is confusing... please help! more

Ok... Here's the DEAL MAN!! I wanna earn my Associates to become an RN or at least to become a LPN/LVN. But the problem is I work full time and I'm a single Mom. I was very close to becoming a Sheriff Deputy. Cause of my ex husband ruining my credit they separated me till I was able to clear it out. (He max all our credit cards on the woman he was having an affair with...long story) Anyway! I've decided that I wanna be a nurse! But OMG! It's seems like I would have to quit my job. I can't do that cause I need income for me and my 2 children. I have searched endlessly to find a school that would offer night classes and /or weekend. But is there any Online courses that I can take and perhaps on the weekends or night do my clinical??? Honestly... I just need to do something to start making decent money to provide for my kids.
