Medical Alert Ids Questions asked
Resolved Question: Medical alert bracelet required for severe allergy?
I recently found out that I am incredibly allergic to morphine via IV. I had morphine in the hospital and I immediately had an anaphylactic reaction. The reaction took place within 3-4 minutes after I had the morphine. It was a really scary situation, and I thought for sure that I would die, but luckily the nurses ran to my aide and had it under control within ten minutes or so. Ever sine then I've been worried about having another reaction. I worry that if I get in a car wreck or something, and I am unable to speak, that the paramedics may give me morphine in the ambulance and kill me. So, do you think this is a viable reason to wear a medical ID (or allergy alert) bracelet everyday? I've been thinking about it, but I don't want to seem too paranoid and go overkill on this whole thing. I know some people wear them for peanut allergies, so I'd think something like a severe morphine allergy is a good reason to wear one- even though the people at the hospital didn't tell me I should or should not wear one. (Actually they didn't mention it at all, which I thought was kind of weird...) -Thanks :0) moreVoting Question: Where can I buy medical alert tags?
I need Medical ID tags but I do not want to buy them online. Where else could I buy them? moreResolved Question: Silly question about jewelry in jail and prison?
What kind of jewelry are you allowed to wear in prison or jail? Are there exceptions if it's for medical purposes (a medical alert ID, for example) or religious? No, I'm not in any legal trouble, nor do I know anybody who is. I'm just curious. :) moreResolved Question: Where to get INEXPENSIVE Medical Alert ID Necklace?
I need to update my medical alert pendant, I currently have a dog tag type. But American Medical ID wants over $40 for just the basic one! That is ridiculous and I don't give a darn about them "putting me in their national database" because no medical responder is going to have to call them - they would call my doctor first! Sheesh, what a racket. And then on top of what they charge for the jewelry - they keep sending junk mail for a "donation" every year!!! They are WAY TOO GREEDY for me to even think of dealing with them again. So - where can I buy, online is ok, a medical alert ID pendant that is large enough to include a good deal of info? Even if it just pointed out "look at wallet card" that would be ok. So give me some good sites - and NOT American Medical ID! moreResolved Question: Where to get INEXPENSIVE Medical Alert ID Necklace?

They want $40 up front, plus $10 for the dog tag AND $27 for every year after that! That is insane. All I want is a tag, some engraving of major medical condition and a note to "See Wallet Card" why can't that be reasonably priced? I can get a dog tag engraved with similar info for $5! moreResolved Question: Medical ID theft in another state....will the police really do anything to help me? Any other advice?
I'm in Texas, and used to be a resident of Michigan. I moved in 2003. I found out today that someone used my information (my maiden name, date of birth, social security number) to receive medical services at 2 different facilities for their child in 2006 in Michigan. I have not been back to Michigan at all since 2003, nor is this even my child, so this is definitely not me. I spent the last couple hours doing whatever I can do right now - called the credit bureau and put a fraud alert on my file, filled out a dispute, contacted the medical facilities and left a message, and contacted the police departments in each county that this occurred. I'm concerned this person is going to try to use my information again or just simply get away with it. Is there anything else I can do to ensure that something is actually followed through and looked into? I'm in Texas so doing this from far away is an obstacle as well....not to mention that I've heard of people having bad experience with this type of thing and saying the police didn't really care. ThanksThis person went to 2 different hospitals on 2 different days and had their child seen. The child was the patient supposedly. The collection agency received the bill from the hospital with MY information, meaning I was listed as the responsible party....and they had my personal private information such as my DOB and SSN. So this means this person took their kid to the hospital, and wrote down my information as the billing responsibility. This couldn't possibly be an administrative error as these hospitals are an hour from each other, and I've never received services at either of them. moreResolved Question: Where can I buy a medical alert bracelet with large font engraving?
I want to buy a new medical alert bracelet for my son. He is non-verbal, and though he shows his id when he is asked, I'd like him to wear a bracelet with his name, phone number and other information in case he does not have it and is separated from us or a school group. I want large font engraving as he is very active and the last one he had got scratched up and was hard to read. Any one here know a good company to buy one from? Thanks for the laminating idea! That might work because they can do the really stiff laminating. Putting them on his shoes is a great idea. He has worn a pecs card on a key chain, so he's used to that too. moreResolved Question: A heart patient - medical alert id tag help...?
I am a heart patient with mitral valve regurgitation, tricuspid valve regurgitation and a dilated aortic valve. I have discussed with my doctor that I am to get a medical alert bracelet that states my name, that i am a heart patient and then my Cardiologists name and office number. I forgot to ask him if i should include my need for prophylactic antibiotics before different procedures. Do you think I need to include that - or will most Emergency Responders assume that I need antibiotics? If I do put it on there how would i appropriately word it - is "Antibiotic Prophylaxis" the proper term - would just the phrase being on there be sufficient? moreResolved Question: Why is the rest of the world on Alert about the swine flu but Obama's CDC say "is no reason to avoid Mexico"?
Deadly new flu strain erupts in Mexico But there is no reason to avoid Mexico, CDC and the WHO said. "CDC is not recommending any additional recommendations for travelers to California, Texas and Mexico," Besser said. http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE53N22820090424?sp=true Asia on alert over swine flu threat Asian health officials went on alert and urged the public to be vigilant amid the threat of a flu strain that has killed up to 81 people in Mexico and sparked warnings of a potential pandemic. Governments across the region, which has in recent years been at the forefront of the SARS and bird flu epidemics, urged the public, and especially travellers, to be on guard for symptoms of the new multi-strain of swine fever. In New Zealand, a 25-strong school group was quarantined pending the results of medical tests after returning from Mexico with flu-like symptoms, local health authorities said. In Japan, airports tightened checks on passengers arriving from Mexico, with quarantine officials giving out face masks and using thermography imaging cameras to screen for passengers with a fever. Australia has good communicable disease surveillance and control systems in place to detect and respond to outbreaks of illness," a health department spokeswoman said. South Korean health, agriculture and foreign ministry officials held an emergency meeting to discuss the issue, while in China, the health ministry said it was "paying close attention" to the situation. The Chinese government was Sunday studying inspection and quarantine measures to guard against the spread of the latest flu strain, officials said. In Hong Kong, health officials said checks at border crossings had been stepped up and that airlines had been asked to broadcast messages on all flights coming direct from affected areas. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.18f8754dd2a36fa5cbc610cad8f4b794.721&show_article=1 moreResolved Question: Is it necessary to have a medical alert id for a type 1 shellfish allergy?

I wear one (I have Type 1). My friend who is 15 and still in school has type 2 diabetes. I asked him if he wore a med ID and he said no. Do you think its necessary for a type 2 to wear these? Especially if they are in school. Do your kids wear medical ID jewellery? Why or why not? My 11 year old girl is on multiple medication for multiple disorders. Now normally, I wouldn't worry about this, ut ono those disorders is schizophrenia, and I'm worried she'll wonder away one day- and get lost. Some oft he bracelets were stylish (from the beadin beagle) and the ones witplatesswould haveve adequate room to engrave her name and her schizophrenia on the front, and emergency contact info on the back - so this seemsgood solution solution. What do you think? Will tattention attentio to her ( she hates to be noticed)? She's on an IEP so she gets made fun of a bit. Would this add to that, or do lots of children ear medic alert bracelets? ThanksBut I wrie she'll get lost or wonder away, and I won't be able find her, and she'll all sorts of strange stories and won't come home. If no medical Id - then wat should I do? moreResolved Question: Can i get unemployment , fired for sleeping at work, medical conditions and medicines?
OK here is the deal. I had been employed at a security firm for 2 years. I was just fired for sleeping at work. I had been working the night shift (3rd shift). Here is my deal. I was involved in an injury a few years ago. I have been seeing medical professionals almost continually since then and I require neck surgery. THIS IS ALL Documented. I need to have an operation to repair damage to my neck and spine, that cause me to have severe numbness in 1 arm and loss of feeling. I have not yet had the operation because its extremely expensive and my settlement amount will not make a dent in it. I have been on some prescriptions that cause drowsiness. I have been on these for about a year. I have seen neurologists and neurosurgeons and I need the operation, however for now the medicines help a bit with relieving the severity of the symptoms. OK, well I work 3rd shift and its DEAD there! We have NOTHING to do security wise except monitor things and it can be hard to stay awake. I have had to miss a few days in the last year b/c of these injuries. I got in trouble 1 time last year for dozing off and I explained my situation to my boss at that time and he said "well if u cant get it under control, we might have to switch u to a day shift or another site". He seemed to be willing to work with me and I told him that was fine. I even got a prescription for a stimulant to help keep me more alert. So i am taking the medicine that causes me to be drowsy and then taking a stimulant to try to offset the drowsiness. I kep the boss aware of this and when I found out about the surgery, I let them know, in writing that I would have to have an operation in the next few months and id miss 6-12 weeks of work. OK I am sorry for going on and on. Anyhow, so I was let go for falling asleep at work this week. BUT i suspect otherwise. WHY??? 1. the company is having to redo the contract and cut the # of security in 1/2! they put out info about this, 3 weeks before they canned me. 2. my boss was telling other employees for a month that he was going to get rid of me FIRST ONE GONE! 3. i assume, that with me needing 6-12 weeks off sometime soon, he wanted to cut the losses now, instead of when personnel was much less and i was harder to cover for! 4. He NEVER gave me the chance to switch to another site or shift, DESPITE the fact that he stated that as a solution when this happened before and I expressed to him that i would prefer to do so. So that is where i am at. I applied for benefits and was denied b/c they said i was fired for misconduct. BUT my question is, if i have a serious documented need for surgery and the medicines cause drowsiness, can i appeal and win? i mean i did EVERYTHING in my power. I kept them informed (IN WRITING with proof) about this, i took a stimulant to try to be more alert, and I was even willing to switch shifts or job sites but they still fired me so what do i do?? PS its not relevant, BUT the day i was fired, i was not actually even sleeping! they have bad/grainy cameras, which show me with my feet propped up and i was STRUGGLING with keeping awake, but i was still awake! and not asleep! PSS question also, the Tape which they claim shows me sleeping (when i wasnt) has NO DATE AND TIME STAMP on it, so can i argue against admissability??? this could have been from 2 years ago? please advise moreResolved Question: PLEASE HELP ME!! im shaky, insecure nd dont know whats going on... ahhhhhh!!!?

Israeli officials on Wednesday refused to allow prominent European medical teams and Human Rights Watch representatives to cross the border into the beleaguered strip. http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=83151§ionid=351020202 Article detailing the Israeli propaganda attack team http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article693911.ece In the past week nearly 5,000 members of the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS) have downloaded special “megaphone” software that alerts them to anti-Israeli chatrooms or internet polls to enable them to post contrary viewpoints. A student team in Jerusalem combs the web in a host of different languages to flag the sites so that those who have signed up can influence an opinion survey or the course of a debate. Jonny Cline, of the international student group, said that Jewish students and youth groups with their understanding of the web environment were ideally placed to present another side to the debate.Lisa So what your saying is the Israeli propaganda attack teams will ignore the issue of human suffering and try to cloud peoples thinking by bringing other irrelevant issues into it ? Because their goal will be to try to get peoples attention away from the fact that Israel wants more people to die of starvation and the wounds Israel inflicted on women and children ? Yes good answer that seems like a tactic they might pull --- Good work for pointing that outMiss Kitty So -- ignore the fact that Israel attacked aid ships on the high seas -- 90 miles out by ramming it three times Ignore the fact that Israel in 2006 bombed a 40 yr old UN observation post after the Israeli air force was told 10 times by UN personnel they were too close and killed a Dutchman a Chinese man and a Canadian Ignore the fact that Israels smart bombs and laser percecion army bombed UN schools and tried to justify bombing hospitals And blame hamas for killing the aid workers who are trying to bring food and medicine in which could only suit Israel and is completely counter productive to Hamas who believe it or not loves their wives and children to ----------- Yes the Israeli attack propaganda squads could try that --- but it would only work on the uneducated and the close to retarded But yes they will likely try that as well moreResolved Question: Medical Alert Tattoo, what do you include?
I have recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and a heart condition. Lucky me!!! Not all lifestyle, a lot is hereditary. I am not a jewelry person, but my doctor wants me to wear a Medic Alert bracelet. I am heavily tattooed, so I thought I would get the medic alert symbol tattooed on my wrist, but, what script, if any, do I include? Do paramedics recognize the symbol, and just assume there may be issues and check for a wallet ID card? Or, would I need to have Medical Alert tattooed around it to inform them it is not just a cool tattoo? Any suggestions? Any paramedics out there that could help? Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere in Vancouver, BC or area that sells medical bracelets or tags? I don't want to subscribe to a service like MedicAlert, I would prefer to have a bracelet that just points the doctors to my wallet where I have an alert card as I have one important medical condition and several allergies. Too many for one tag. I would prefer one that is an adjustable wrist band with a waterproof insert as I will be traveling to a tropical location and swimming a lot and sailing is dangerous with a loose metal bracelet on. Even a metal ID tag will work and I can have it affixed to a watch strap. If anyone knows a Canadian website as well that will help that would work too. If we were to mention Africa to you what images would come into your mind? Has our modern media planted these images there? You’d probably think of children running around with no shoes, clothes, that they are infested horribly with insects, unfed, neglected and profoundly ill. However, for the most part- Africa used to be one of the most affluent continents some 500 years ago before European colonization- from Africa they acquired livestock, gold, oil, crops, herbs( discarding the African slave trade) and so much more. TODAY FACTS: “[2000] began with 24 million Africans infected with the virus(HIV). In the absence of a medical miracle, nearly all will die before 2010. Each day, 6,000 Africans die from AIDS. Each day, an additional 11,000 are infected.” - — Lester R. Brown, HIV Epidemic Restructuring Africa’s Population, World Watch Issue Alert, 31 October 2000 There were 2.9 million deaths from AIDS in Africa last year. -WaterAid estimates roughly 20 percent of the world's population—nearly 1.1 billion people—lack access to clean drinking water in Africa. 11 Million People in Horn of Africa Suffer From Hunger. -400,000 people have been killed by the genocide in Sudan taking place right now. -In addition to lack of medical care, and education, Africa ranks as the poorest continent today. It was NOT always like this though; but we people can really make a big difference- saving lives can never be more remarkable. I say No. And if you feel the same you should state your thoughts by going to: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/oc/dockets/comments/COMMENTSMain.CFM?EC_DOCUMENT_ID=1451&SUBTYP=CONTINUE&CID=&AGENCY=FDA And also contact your local Senate: www.congress.org Please read below: A re-print from HSI: Dear Reader, This might be the most important e-Alert I'll ever send you. Your healthcare freedom is constantly under attack. And as we've just discovered, that freedom has suddenly come under fire as never before. -------------------------------------------- Always something -------------------------------------------- Most HSI members won't be surprised to learn that the FDA has launched a plan to impose new regulations on alternative healthcare - regulations that are far more severe than existing regs. Attempts like this aren't new, of course. Over the years we've diligently monitored such actions so that we can keep you informed through the e-Alert, the HSI Members Alert, and our web site. Just last month I told you about a new senate bill called the Safe Drug Compounding Act that would limit the freedom of women to choose a safe alternative to synthetic hormone replacement therapy. So far, there's no further news about the progress of that completely unnecessary act, but now a much larger threat looms. This past December, the FDA quietly put a document on its web site titled "Draft Guidance for Industry on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Products and Their Regulation by the Food and Drug Administration." This document is open to public comments until April 30, 2007 - just a few days from now. After that, FDA officials will evaluate the comments and decide if they dare proceed with a regulation that might actually make it a crime to take vitamin C for a cold without a prescription. Sound extreme? Absolutely! This is the most extreme attempt to control the sale and use of dietary supplements I've ever seen. -------------------------------------------- The cards are stacked -------------------------------------------- The FDA document is 14 pages long, but here's what it boils down to: If you use an herbal or dietary supplement to stay healthy or to help prevent an ailment, that's fine. But if any supplement is used to treat a symptom, then it's a medicine and will be regulated by the FDA, just like any prescription drug. And there's a qualifying statement to that second part: The supplement will be exempted if it is "generally recognized, among experts qualified by scientific training and experience to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of drugs, as safe and effective for use under the conditions prescribed, recommended, or suggested in the labeling." In other words, the freedom to use a supplement to treat a condition will be at the discretion of FDA experts. And given the track record of FDA experts, this is really bad news. With this spacious latitude, there's no telling just how far the FDA might go to restrict access to supplements. For instance, they could take a widely used supplement off the market if the label states a benefit; such as using lutein to reduce the damage from age-related macular degeneration, or using chondroitin and glucosamine to reduce joint pain, or using probiotics to address digestive problems - the list goes on and on. As HSI Panelist Jon Barron points out on his web site (jonbarron.org), under the proposed FDA guidelines even bottled water might be considered a drug if used to alleviate severe dehydration, which is an emergency medical condition. moreResolved Question: Does anyone know if Medicaid will pay for a medical alert id bracelet or necklace for my son who has asthma?
