Resolved Question: Living every day in fear that I will lose my job or health insurance... is this "change I can believe in"?

My God, every day there is something new to fear. Government takeover of the banks. Government takeover of the auto companies. Elimination of private insurance. Ignorance of a nuclear-armed Iran. White House officials accusing people of racism. "Czars" taking over. Bans on incandescent light bulbs. Every day it's another reason to be scared witless. All over the news today: public option and federally-funded abortion is imminent. I hope Obama loses in 2012 just so every day isn't some new terror. George Bush had his faults but at least every day wasn't some new federal takeover of the private sector. more

Resolved Question: How exactly is one party control of the government and takeover of private industry NOT totalitarianism?

The Democrats control the government now, and have quickly taken over the banks, the auto industry, the insurance industry, and now are eying the health industry and are trying to silence any and all opponents like Fox News and talk radio. How is this not indicative of a totalitarian regime? Republicans have no power, private citizens and private industry are on the verge of being powerless, all power is going to Obama and his cronies. Why are people blind to this? more

Resolved Question: OBAMA: Give us back our country and our constitution!?

Hey, i'm all open to change, but i'm 17 and every paycheck i get more adn more is taken off. i pay to attend a private school, a car, gas, and auto insurance. and as tax goes up on my paycheck, and the cost of everything else goes up, i have no social life. at seventeen i'm a slave to FICA and medicare. Do you even think of the teens? ever? no. We're the future, and i listen to conservitive radio, the o'reilly factor, and liberal news networks to be fully aware of opinions nad facts. so what do you have to say to that?!!?1I pay for my tuition myself! yes, i know they are adult expenses, and my whole point is that if an adult was attending school, and working nights, they would not be able to pay for all the expenses, including property tax, utilities, and all that fun stuff. Health care? i act. HAVE insureance! why should i pay twice as much for not even half the coverage?!? why aren't there any votes FOR THE PUBLIC regarding any of this? why would we have to pay for abortions if its against our beliefs? that is forcing against ones will. which is also defined as dictatorship. more

Resolved Question: Would you buy your health insurance at the DMV?

You Will Get Health Insurance at DMV—Literally (It’s in the Bill) http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/55450 The most revelatory passage in the so-called “plain English” version of the health care bill that the Senate Finance Committee approved on Tuesday (without ever drafting the actual legislative language) says that in the future Americans will be offered the convenience of getting their health insurance at the Department of Motor Vehicles. This is no joke. If this bill becomes law, it will be the duty of the U.S. secretary of health and human services or the state governments overseeing federally mandated health-insurance exchanges to ensure that you can get your health insurance at the DMV. You also will be able to get it at Social Security offices, hospitals, schools and “other offices” the government will name later. Page 19 of the committee’s “plain English” text says: “The Secretary and/or states would do the following: ... Enable customers to enroll in health care plans in local hospitals, schools, Departments of Motor Vehicles, local Social Security offices, and other offices designated by the state.” This is the bill’s most revelatory passage because it sublimely symbolizes the bill’s true aim: a government takeover of the health care system. You do not get food at the DMV. You do not even get auto insurance at the DMV. But under what The Associated Press inaptly calls the Finance Committee’s “middle-of-the-road health care plan,” you will get health insurance at the DMV. What will the DMV and health care have in common if this bill is enacted? Government will control both. A couple of weeks ago, the Finance Committee voted down the public option—a health insurance plan run directly by the government. The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and all three House committees working on the bill had included the public option in their versions. So, the establishment media made much of the fact that the Finance Committee did not. But the omission is almost meaningless. The public option is only one lane on the road to socialized medicine. Government subsidies and government regulations are two others—and they run like a super highway through the Finance Committee bill. -snip"but the private insurance companies screwed themselves over. They spread their tentacles into our government and have manipulated it for far to long" Alot of companies spread their tentacles into government and manipulate it. And you are deluded if you think that government is working on your behalf to stop that. more

Resolved Question: Why do people keep comparing health insurance mandates to car insurance mandates?

Car insurance mandates are done at the STATE level, in accordance with the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. constitution. Yet people (the president included) continue to claim that a FEDERAL mandate to buy insurance is no different than being required to cover your car. (Completely ignoring that you have to BUY a car before you must get insurance...the govt's basically saying they own your body...insure it or be taxed) So isn't a FEDERAL mandate unconstitutional unless you plan on writing an amendment to the Constitution so that such a mandate is in accordance with the Tenth Amendment?? http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/27384.html The questions from ABC’s George Stephanopoulos highlighted a politically dangerous new aspect of the health reform debate for Obama – as critics from Republican leaders to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce say his reform proposals amount to a middle-class tax increase. Obama promised during the campaign that Americans earning less than $250,000 a year would not see any tax increases from an Obama administration. Obama strongly denied that the mandate amounts to a tax increase – saying it was no different than requiring people to have auto insurance and charging a penalty if they don’t. He also said it was important for everyone to have insurance so that people who do carry insurance don’t have to shoulder the load for people who don’t. The excise tax is designed as an enforcement mechanism to ensure people will carry insurance.train..........thanx for the info.levon...........thank you for pointing that out. more

Resolved Question: if you don't call it a tax is it still a federal tax from our government?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_health_insurance_tax_fact_check even if you call it a fine, it is still a tax that the IRS will collect. I don't buy the auto insurance argument. People chose to drive or not to drive. A lot of people don't drive. The only way that argument would be valid is if you required people who didn't own cars to buy auto insurance. I don't buy the argument that it will reduce unnecessary expense from our ER. Uninsured people who go to the ER who can afford to pay must pay. The hospitals can(and regularly do) sue those who can afford to pay. They always win and they always get their money through direct payment, garnishments, liens... Those who can't afford to pay in the ER are likely already covered by a government subsidy. The only loophole in the plan is illegal immigrants. No citizen to sue, no coverage under current federal plans. None of the proposed legislation will correct this. People will have to pay just because they live in this country?john "If I am drinking and driving and get pulled over isn't that a tax" If you are drinking and driving you are being punished for your direct personal actions. You are being punished for your own personal decision. Under the current legislation you will not have to do anything. You will automatically be taxed. You can try to twist it all you want but your examples are poor at best. No right or left wing smear required. more

Voting Question: Doesn't a federal insurance mandate imply the federal govt. owns your body?? (insure it or be taxed)?

Now I understand the argument that says if everyone is insured then prices will go down etc. But does the FEDERAL GOVT. have the CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY to require you to buy health insurance?? Car insurance mandates are done at the STATE level in accordance with the Tenth Amendment. And if you don't want to buy the insurance you can walk, ride a bike or ride public transportation. But a FEDERAL mandate would seem to imply the govt. OWNS your body and that you will not be allowed to act irresponsibly with it....what do you think?? http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/27384.html The questions from ABC’s George Stephanopoulos highlighted a politically dangerous new aspect of the health reform debate for Obama – as critics from Republican leaders to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce say his reform proposals amount to a middle-class tax increase. Resolved Question: Is Obama's health care plan really just another tax to an already overtaxed population?

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says requiring people to get health insurance and fining them if they don't would not amount to a backhanded tax increase. "I absolutely reject that notion," the president said. Blanketing most of the Sunday TV news shows, Obama defended his proposed health care overhaul, including a key point of the various health care bills on Capitol Hill: mandating that people get health insurance to share the cost burden fairly among all. Those who failed to get coverage would face financial penalties. Obama said other elements of the plan would make insurance affordable for people, from a new comparison-shopping "exchange" to tax credits. Telling people to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase, Obama told ABC's "This Week." "What it's saying is, is that we're not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you anymore," said Obama. "Right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance. Nobody considers that a tax increase." Obama faces an enormous political and communications challenge in selling his health care plan as Congress debates how to pay for it all. He told CBS' "Face the Nation" that he will keep his pledge not to raise taxes on families earning up to $250,000, and that much of the final bill — hundreds of billions of dollars over the next 10 years — can be achieved from savings within the current system. Coming up with the rest remains a key legislative obstacle. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said there is no way Obama can achieve his goals without raising taxes. "He has to. How else do you pay for it?" he told CBS. Obama put his support behind the idea of taxing employers that offer high-cost insurance plans. "I do think that giving a disincentive to insurance companies to offer Cadillac plans that don't make people healthier is part of the way that we're going to bring down health care costs for everybody over the long term," Obama said on NBC's "Meet the Press." Obama's network interviews were taped Friday at the White House. He became the first president to appear on five Sunday network shows in the same morning, an extraordinary effort to build public support for his top domestic priority. The goal is to expand and improve health insurance coverage and rein in long-term costs. Yet despite so many weeks of speeches, town halls and interviews, Obama said he has found it difficult at times to make a complex topic clear and relevant. "I've tried to keep it digestible," Obama said. "It's very hard for people to get their arms around it. And that's been a case where I have been humbled and I just keep on trying harder." Obama told Univision's "Al Punto" ("To the Point") that the strong opposition to his plan is part of a political strategy. "Well, part of it is ... that the opposition has made a decision," he said. "They are just not going to support anything, for political reasons." Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said Obama doesn't understand Republicans' opposition. "I don't know anybody in my Republican conference in the Senate who's in favor of doing nothing on health care," McConnell said. "We obviously have a cost problem and we have an access problem." But he told CNN's "State of the Union" that the Democrats' plan is simply too rushed. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Obama has ignored grave concerns over his plan and his media blitz won't change that. "The president is selling something that people, quite frankly, are not buying," Graham told NBC's "Meet the Press." "He's been on everything but the Food Channel," he added. more

Resolved Question: Obama made some unusual comments on Healthcare Reform?

I'm doing to have to disagree with the president here. "Obama promised he would not break his campaign pledge of no tax increase for the middle class and rejected the notion that a requirement that all Americans own insurance – and would fine them up to $3,800 per family if they do not — amounts to a backdoor tax increase. “For us to say that you've got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase,” Obama said on ABC’s “This Week.” “What it’s saying is that we’re not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you any more than the fact that right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance. Nobody considers that a tax increase.” " If I have no insurance and go to the hospital, they have to treat me, they simple send me and bill instead of an insurance company. Assuming that ALL those who do not have insurance are dishonest, deceitful and would never pay their bills is a poor platform for healthcare reform. Also, I do believe that sending me a bill for services NOT rendered to the price of up to $3,800 should be against the law. I have to pay to NOT be sick. To not need healthcare? http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20090920/pl_politico/27352@ Dave: So even if I don't want it, I don't need it, your telling me I HAVE TO get it? Where is the freedom in that?I ment Steve. Sorry.@ Everyone: Your assuming that ALL who are uninsured will NOT pay their bills. This just simply isn't true. How many illegal immigrants that sneak across the border to birth a child on American soil have insurance? How much does THAT cost us? Or everytime they go to the hospital? Can we tally up THAT cost?@ Joshua: That article was write Sunday, October 26th, 2008. Even before the election. I'm asking about HR 3200 as it stands now. more

Resolved Question: Isn't making health insurance mandatory a form of tax?

President Obama stated,“What it’s saying is that we’re not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you any more than the fact that right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance. Nobody considers that a tax increase.” So even if a person is perfectly healthy. They have to pay for health insurance they don't want or need. So on that note. Do the people who do not drive have to start paying for auto insurance even if they don't own a car? And how does imposing a penalty on someone who doesn't want insurance going to make that persons life better. I can't afford to pay for insurance. So how am I supposed afford a $3000 Plus penalty for not buying it? Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/27352_Page2.html#ixzz0RerpeVuP more

Voting Question: How do you prove you can't afford to pay your insurance permiums?? (to avoid tax penalty)?

Also, does the FEDERAL govt. have the authority to mandate that citizens buy insurance or face a penalty?? Resolved Question: What's your opinion on the Baucus health care reform bill?

"Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) said Wednesday that he will push ahead with a comprehensive health care reform bill with — or without — Republican support and start a committee markup the week of Sept. 21." http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/26912 Here is a brief summary of what the Baucus health care reform bill contains: "Fines proposed for going without health insurance" The Baucus plan would require insurers to take all applicants, regardless of age or health. But smokers could be charged higher premiums. And 60-year-olds could be charged five times as much for a policy as 20-year-olds. Some experts consider the $900-billion price tag a relative bargain because the country now spends about $2.5 trillion a year on health care. But it would require hefty fees on insurers, drug companies and others in the health care industry to help pay for it. Just as auto coverage is now mandatory in nearly all states, Baucus would require that all Americans get health insurance once the system is overhauled. Penalties for failing to do so would start at $750 a year for individuals and $1,500 for families. Households making more than three times the federal poverty level — about $66,000 for a family of four — would face the maximum fines. For families, it would be $3,800, and for individuals, $950. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090908/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_health_care_overhaul more

Voting Question: By Tennessee State Law can I legally do anything to this car lot?

About 8 months ago me and my wife went to Easy Auto a car lot here that sells vehicles. We got a 1998 Plymouth Voyager. Within one month we noticed many problems with the vehicle including a transmission problem. Easy Auto took the car back from us and put us in a different vehicle a 2000 Ford Taurus. We had the vehicle inspected but many problems the vehicle had were not fixed. When we asked the mechanic why they weren't repaired he told us Easy Auto told them only to make the car where it could be driven and also be reliable not to worry about minor maintenance such as tires, belts, etc. We first noticed a problem with the belt area. A loud squeak was coming from the belt. I had it checked by a mechanic and with my own money had the belt replaced. Squeak went away for two weeks then returned. Since that fateful day I've had to repair and replace the following in the past 7 months. New Serpentine Belt New Idler Pulley New Tensioner Brake Pads 2 Sets Of Rotors Starter Went Out Had It Rebuilt New Glider Arms Had Discs Adjusted Had Drums Turned Had Coolant System Flushed And The Biggest Fix We Had To Have The Transmission Rebuilt As you can imagine all these repairs have made it hard for me and my wife to make it by. We can't even afford to keep insurance on the car. With all these repairs the car still isn't in great running condition. The squeak from the belt area is still there and louder than ever. The vehicle needs news shocks and struts. The car shakes whenever I hit 50 mph. I'm getting a slight popping noise from my steering column when turning (had it checked and was told my steering system ie rack pinion etc is fine). I have a small coolant leak (nothing major). Whenever I go up hills I hear a weird noise which I've been told is just a sign that the spark plugs need changed. The transmission is also kicking really hard going into gear (which isn't a big deal due to the fact I have a 2 year warranty on it) but all these problems remain after spending over $2000.00 of my own money in 7 months on repairs and parts. Each time I call Easy Auto about the problems I always get the same answer "Sorry I don't know what to tell you" (I know what I'd like to tell them and where to shove this car). I thought about false advertising because Easy Auto's commercials here say they guarantee you they will place you in a safe reliable vehicle. My car isn't too reliable to me. Legally with me signing an as is warranty and all is there anything I can do but deal with the car and swallow my pride? more

Resolved Question: Why won't Obama tell us who makes up the 46 Million "uninsured"?

Obama says there are 47 MILLION uninsured in the US Now lets readjust those numbers based on available census data 1 ( - 14 Million )Fourteen million of the 47 million are already eligible for government insurance, Medicaid, but have not signed up. (Pre-existing conditions do not exclude someone from joining Medicaid.) Those 14 million have not signed up because they do not want to pay the small monthly premium that Medicare charges. As a result, many who are eligible for Medicaid wait until they need care before they register. They are effectively insured at all times even when they are not formally enrolled in the program. 2 ( - 9.5 Million ) non-citizens. 3 (4.5 Million ) people who are eligible for Medicaid or S-CHIP but have not enrolled. If they need care, the hospital or clinic generally enrolls them. In other words, they do not (as Obama claims) go bankrupt or without treatment. 4. ( - 10 Million ) Those that make more than 3x the poverty level (50k/yr or more) but choose not to have coverage. Leaves around 8 Million.. ok..now we got something to work with..of those 5 million are between the ages of 18-34 and don't feel the need to have coverage. That leaves around 3 Million. Ok.. Take the stupid a$$ Clunkers program that will spend 3 BILLION .... Give the remaining 3 million a $1000 each to purchase their own high deductible private plan. If health insurance is going to be required by law (very high odds based on current bills), and you are too poor, you are homeless and have no money. Does that mean that if you are so poor you can't even afford that health insurance that you will be able to be arrested for living without medical insurance? Much like driving without auto insurance is a crime too? I can see it now, maybe i'm crazy, and please give feed back, but doesn't that give the police a reason to harrass homeless people? If they are suspecious of your activities in anyway, they will legally be able to stop you, and ask if you have medical insurance, in which case they can most likely try to find other things. Am i crazy and no one sees this? or am i reading all the news reports wrong when they say it will be required to have health insurance? more

Resolved Question: Is it right for the govt to fine $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to join Obama's Health plan?

Senate bill fines people refusing health coverage WASHINGTON – Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage could be hit with fines of more than $1,000 under a health care overhaul bill unveiled Thursday by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama's top domestic priority. The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines will raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage. Under the federal legislation, families would pay higher penalties than individuals. In a revamped health care system envisioned by lawmakers, people would be required to carry health insurance just like motorists must get auto coverage now. The government would provide subsidies for the poor and many middle-class families, but those who still refuse to sign up would face penalties. Called "shared responsibility payments," the fines would be set at least half the cost of basic medical coverage, according to the legislation. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090702/ap_on_go_co/us_health_care_overhaul more

Resolved Question: This was on yahoo new. Whats your opinion?

What does everyone think about this? This is on yahoo news. WASHINGTON – Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage could be hit with fines of more than $1,000 under a health care overhaul bill unveiled Thursday by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama's top domestic priority. The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines will raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Called "shared responsibility payments," the fines would be set at least at half the cost of basic medical coverage, according to the legislation. The goal is to nudge people to sign up for coverage when they are healthy, not wait until they get sick. In 2008, employer-provided coverage averaged $12,680 a year for a family plan, and $4,704 for individual coverage, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation's annual survey. Senate aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said the cost of the federal plan would be lower but declined to provide specifics. The legislation would exempt certain hardship cases from fines. The fines would be collected through the income tax system. The new proposals were released as Congress neared the end of a weeklong July 4 break, with lawmakers expected to quickly take up health care legislation when they return to Washington. With deepening divisions along partisan and ideological lines, the complex legislation faces an uncertain future. Obama wants a bill this year that would provide coverage to the nearly 50 million Americans who lack it and reduce medical costs. In a statement, Obama welcomed the legislation, saying it "reflects many of the principles I've laid out, such as reforms that will prohibit insurance companies from refusing coverage for people with pre-existing conditions and the concept of insurance exchanges where individuals can find affordable coverage if they lose their jobs, move or get sick." The Senate Health Education, Labor and Pensions bill also calls for a government-run insurance option to compete with private plans as well as a $750-per-worker annual fee on larger companies that do not offer coverage to employees. Sens. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., and Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., said in a letter to colleagues that their revised plan would cost dramatically less than an earlier, incomplete proposal, and help show the way toward coverage for 97 percent of all Americans. In a conference call with reporters, Dodd said the revised bill had brought "historic reform of health care" closer. He said the bill's public option will bring coverage and benefit decisions driven "not by what generates the biggest profits, but by what works best for American families." The Congressional Budget Office, in an analysis released Thursday evening, put the net cost of the proposal at $597 billion over 10 years, down from $1 trillion two weeks ago. Coverage expansions worth $645 billion would be partly offset by savings of $48 billion, the estimate said. However, the total cost of legislation will rise considerably once provisions are added to subsidize health insurance for the poor through Medicaid. Those additions, needed to ensure coverage for nearly all U.S. residents, are being handled by a separate panel, the Senate Finance Committee. Bipartisan talks on the Finance panel aim to hold the overall price tag to $1 trillion. The Health Committee could complete its portion of the bill as soon as next week, and the presence of a government health insurance option virtually assures a party-line vote. In the Senate, the Finance Committee version of the bill is unlikely to include a government-run insurance option. Bipartisan negotiations are centered on a proposal for a nonprofit insurance cooperative as a competitor to private companies. Three committees are collaborating in the House on legislation expected to come to a vote by the end of July. That measure is certain to include a government-run insurance option. At their heart, all the bills would require insurance companies to sell coverage to any applicant, without charging higher premiums for pre-existing medical conditions. The poor and some middle-class families would qualify for government subsidies to help with the cost of coverage. The government's costs would be covered by a combination of higher taxes and cuts in projected Medicare and Medicaid spehttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090703/ap_on_go_co/us_health_care_overhaulI do not have any insurance for myself or my family, and heres why. Since I am self employed it will cost me $900 per month to cover my family. If by chance a member of my family needs a doctor then I pay for the services right then. I have a tear in my abdominal muscle just above my belly. Now here's my complaint. I went to the Dr. and he said it will cost me $1500. just for him but since i'm uninsured he will do it for $500. Since i'm uninsured I had to contact each person myself to set things up. The hospital told me it will cost me $25,000. to rent a hospital room, nurse and the tools the Dr. will need, but since i'm uninsured they will rent me everything for $11,000. Then the same for the anesthesiologist, $3000 but he'll cut it to $1500. for his service. Now this $29,500 surgery will cost me $13,000 out of my pocket. Now if they could do it for less then half since i'm uninsured, why couldn't it be that price to begin with? Then insurance would be affordable. more

Resolved Question: Now that ABC NEWS IS THE OFFICIAL WHITE HOUSE PROPAGANDA ARM will you believe them ever again?

ABC News is now officially broadcasting from the White House. Obama has taken them over too. On the night of June 24th, the media and government will become one, when ABC turns its programming over to Barack Obama and White House officials to push government run health care -- a move that has ignited an ethical firestorm! ABC News anchor, Charlie Gibson, will deliver ABC World News from the Blue Room of the White House. ABC Radio will also provide exclusive coverage. The network also plans a primetime special -- "Prescription for America" -- that will originate from the East Room, and will exclude opposing voices on the health care debate. First Obama nationalized insurance companies, then banks and Wall Street, and then the auto companies. He is seizing private property and wants to control wages. He's created 21 Czars that answer only to him and have no Congressional oversight. He's illegally fired people who don't tow the line. He's raised taxes on oil and gas to "stop global warming." Now he wants to nationalize health care and turn the best medical system on the planet over to the same folks who brought you the IRS and the postal system. This guy is OUT OF CONTROL! more

Resolved Question: Can Chapter 13 bankruptcy help my situation?

Hello, I've had a rough year unfortunately. This year started out great, but came January 5th my world started crumbling. I found out I'm getting laid off and then an hour after I found that out, I turned my head for a split second and in that split second, the cars in front of me completely stopped and by the time I looked up I smashed into a Honda Civic and rammed it into a tow truck and damaged both cars. In one day, my job, my car, and my bills got worse like that. But hey, I survived the crash so I have something to be thankful for and no one else was hurt. The worst news is that my car insurance cancelled on me in November, but I didn't find out until December 27th. By then, I didn't have the money to get new Car Insurance, I was strapped on bills already. I had planned on getting Car Insurance January 9th when I got paid, but obviously it was a bit too late. So with no car insurance, my car has sat totaled in my driveway since. The cost to fix it would be over $8K. A lost cause indeed. For months I've been trying to find a way to survive my current and new debts and I was lucky enough to find a great job that pays $60K a year as a IT consultant. Unfortunately, with as much bills as I owe, its still not enough and I've been living on $100 a week for months now trying to pay these debts, but unfortunately other bills have come up, like they always do, and with theats of creditors and the Auto loan suing me and garnishing my wages, I'm beginining to think that my last resort is Bankruptcy. Of course, Chapter 7 won't work because I make too much money now and there is no way I'm letting this job go as I spent over 2 months searching rapidly and luckily craigslist saved me again. I believe though that I qualify for Chapter 13 bankruptcy which would allow me to create a more affordable repayment plan and protect me for up to 3 to 5 years from creditors coming after me. I'm no expert so I would like someone to review my debts that I'll list below and let me know what they think. Any help would be great. Thanks Here is all my debts: -My Auto loan (Which is the worst decision I ever made) balance is $13,500. -The civic I hit into the tow truck was totaled. I owe $8200 -The tow truck has $2100 worth of damage that I'm responsible for too. -I owe $2000 on a credit card. Another $900 for another credit card. -Another credit card (That I let my Mom open under me) $900 -Overdrawn Checking account $800 (Wells Fargo is out to screw you. $35 Overdraft fees and they always seem to put all your transactions before your deposit and direct deposits) That brings the total to $28200. If I had 3 years to pay this off with no interest getting added I'd have to make $783.33 monthly. If I had 5 years, all I would have to make is $470 a month. I'm not sure if its that simple though. It never really is. Also my auto loan is a secured debt and I'm not sure how thats effected and if Chapter 13 protects me against that. Any feedback about my situation would be great. It's pretty bad, but I'm at the point now where doing a bankruptcy would be relevant as I have 2 more months before these bills start coming after me trying to garnish. Thanks in advance more

Resolved Question: Valet parking accident - how to proceed?

I used long-term parking near LAX airport. (Annoyingly, all these services are always valet.) I got it back, and immediately noticed the rear bumper corner was seriously smashed. I filed a claim form on the spot, their employee signed it, and took photos. The good news is that they don't avoid or deny anything - but I'll believe that when I see the cleared check... The company that handles their claims said that since they're self-insured, I should see the money in a month if I'm lucky. Looks like the cost will be a few hundred $ above my $500 insurance deductible. Should I involve my insurance company? Makes sense, but I'm afraid they have no interest pursuing the full amount, and that I'll end up with little compensation, instead of the whole amount if I went after the parking lot myself. I guess my confusion is how can I work "alongside" my insurance company to maximize the chances of getting full reimbursement? This is also the first time I file an auto insurance claim. more

Voting Question: So the U.S. govt. owns Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, a few banks, and now a car company....when is enough, enough?

Corporate welfare IS NOT COOL. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_obama_gm The government's partial stake in GM comes on top of a far smaller ownership of Chrysler LLC, as well as significant federal equity in banks, the AIG insurance giant and two mortgage industry titans — all victims of an economic crisis unrivaled since the Great Depression. Republicans lobbed questions in Obama's direction even before he finished speaking. "The only thing it makes clear is that the government is firmly in the business of running companies using taxpayer dollars," said House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio. "Does anyone really believe that politicians and bureaucrats in Washington can successfully steer a multinational corporation to economic viability? It's time for the administration to fully explain what the exit strategy is to get the U.S. government out of the board room once and for all," Boehner said. But the president said the actions were part of a "viable, achievable plan that will give this iconic company a chance to rise again." Speaking at the White House, where he was flanked by Cabinet secretaries and top economic advisers, he added, "What I am not doing, what I have no interest in doing, is running GM." The president said auto executives "will call the shots and make the decisions about turning this company around." He said the government would refrain from playing a management role in all but the most critical areas.american............no common sense says let bad business fail so that good business can replace it.zaphod.............you're obviously a little fuzzy on the details. Resolved Question: Should ARZ Thank Sheriff Joe and other law enforcement agencies in Maricopa county for doing their job?

Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas held a press conference Sunday to announce a significant decline in auto thefts in the Valley. Thomas attributed this to the fight against both crime and illegal immigration. A Maricopa County Attorney's Office press release stated, "Newly released figures from the National Insurance Crime Bureau show that from 2006 to 2008, the Phoenix area fell from having the 4th highest ranking in the nation for auto theft to 19th in the nation." According to the report, the number of auto thefts per 100,000 people dropped 36 percent, from 979 in 2006 to 602 in 2008. Vehicle thefts have fallen 46 percent since 2004, according to the report. In 2006, Thomas formed an Auto Theft Bureau in his office, which has prosecuted more than 3,000 defendants with a conviction rate averaging 90 percent. Thomas said that this, combined with the efforts of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office to crack down on illegal immigration, can be directly attributed to the sharp drop in Valley auto thefts. "Law enforcement can be proud of the stunning decrease in auto thefts we've achieved," said Thomas. "In other border states, this success has been elusive. The link between crime and illegal immigration cannot be ignored. Progress is possible if we take a two-pronged approach to combating these two related problems." http://www.abc15.com/content/news/phoenixmetro/central/story/Thomas-Valley-crime-immigration-sweeps-lower-auto/YxBVWaT3DE6YWX8iMgDGRA.cspx more

Resolved Question: Will Obama lead America into a "mild" depression?

Downturn sinking into depression? Economy » With alarming economic contraction, defining current slump is tricky. Combined News Services Updated: 03/03/2009 06:40:01 PM MST Click photo to enlargeIn his prime-time address to Congress last week,... (Ron Edmonds / The Associated Press)«123»Washington » There's a reason it's called the Great Depression. The epic hard times of the 1930s became the best-known depression in American history, but it doesn't necessarily take that kind of nightmarish suffering to trigger the D-word today. In fact, some economists worry that the economy could be sinking into a milder depression, the kind spelled with a lowercase "d." This isn't the 1930s of bread lines, rampant unemployment, a wipeout in the stock market. But, unlike recessions, which are easy to define, there are no firm rules for what makes a depression. Everyone at least seems to agree there hasn't been one since the dark days of Hoover and FDR. That said, with each new hard-times headline, most recently an alarming economic contraction of 6.2 percent in the fourth quarter, it seems that something more drastic than a recession could be on its way. "It's not going to be acknowledged until years go by. Because you have to see it behind you," said Peter Morici, a business professor at the University of Maryland. No one disputes that today's economic downturn qualifies as a recession. Recessions have two handy definitions, both in effect now -- two straight quarters of economic contraction, or when the National Bureau of Economic Research makes the call. Declaring a depression is much trickier. By one definition, it's a downturn of three years or more with a 10 percent drop in economic output and unemployment above 10 percent. The current recession doesn't qualify -- 15 months old and 7.6 percent unemployment. Another definition says a depression is a sustained recession during which the populace has to dispose of tangible assets to pay for everyday living. For some families, that's happening now. Morici defines a depression is a recession that "does not self-correct" because of fundamental structural problems in the economy, such as broken banks or a huge trade deficit. The Great Depression retains the heavyweight crown. Unemployment peaked at more than 25 percent. From 1929 to 1933, the economy shrank 27 percent. The stock market lost 90 percent of its value from boom to bust. And although the 2008 stock market was the worst since 1931, the Dow Jones industrials would have to fall about 5,000 more points to approach what happened in the Great Depression. Few economists expect this downturn will be the sequel, but nobody can say when or whether the downturn may deepen from a recession. In his prime-time address to Congress last week, President Barack Obama acknowledged "difficult and trying times" but sought to rally the nation with an upbeat vow that "we will rebuild, we will recover." Despite the tempered optimism, consumer confidence has fallen off the table, stocks are at 12-year lows, layoffs come by the tens of thousands and credit remains tight. Policymakers and economists note there are safeguards in place that weren't there in the 1930s -- deposit insurance, unemployment insurance and an ability by the government to hurl trillions of dollars at the problem, even if it means printing money. Most postwar U.S. recessions have come after the Fed has increased interest rates to cool rapid growth and inflation. Later, the Fed lowers rates and helps restart the economy, with the housing and auto sectors leading the way. This time, as Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd, D-Conn., said, "Our housing and auto sectors are leading us into it." What's more, the central bank has already lowered the short-term rates it controls to zero, eliminating that leverage, and there are no guarantees the massive economic stimulus package and series of bank bailouts will stave off a nightmare recession, or worse. more

Resolved Question: Do you know of any business that wire money out of this country instead of depositing funds to avoid claiming?

I worked for a bank with one of our customers being a collection agency. Among many customers was a large well known insurance co, they collected money for was a special acct under another name but was for "uninsured motorist" for the auto company, one of their customers, that they had to pay claims out on, because they could not recoup from the other insurance company because "there was none" and took the collected money from people to recover costs by threatening ruining credit to pay back since it was illegal not to have insurance . The collection agancy said that the money had to be wired out of the country rather then deposited into the account so no record would be on bank statements so that the govt would not get on insurance agency for collecting what they claim they did not get due to uninsured motorist that cost the insurance industry much money and a good reason for the high rates they charge to make up for their losses ,covering the deadbeats that they could not collect from at high cost everyone, yet did actually collect. Actually there not a loss as claimed.(Sounds like the insurance industry is again the frauder) It has occurred to me that if the insurance industry does this, there are probably other companies that do this, the recent swiss bank accounts news made me think of it. I realize there are many business secrets that are legal to do, but many of them do not seem a bit ethical to me. Another one was the insurance company law firm bought basket ball season tickets at high price from another law firm in building and they called it "charitable contribution" I guess as long as a company can produce a receipt or cancelled check to accountants they can get away with business outings that regular people are unable to do. Have you worked for a company that did special little deductions that are like this? It sure seems that there are many loopholes as they call it, but how do they find out what they are, from their accountants? What secrets do you know that larger business is able to do? more

Resolved Question: Why must our media always dominate the airwaves with 1 subject and 1 subject only?

Whether it's Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, OJ Simpson, etc... they are always talking about that thing only. When will they learn that we want a diverse media? And by diverse I don't mean setting up various conflicts in order to promote some capitalist rivalry agenda in order to make more money. They could honestly give 2 sh**s about the news obviously so what is it going to take to get it through to them? For instance, before I found Progressive Auto Insurance I was paying out the rear end from companies like Geico that are talking out of their rear end when it comes to the promotions they fund compared to what their actual rates are. I saved 250 dollars on my very first car by going with Progressive but what if Progressive never was? What if Progressive never existed at all? Then I would be stuck with Geico. You might say that someone may have taken Geico's place, but whom exactly would? It's a dog eat dog world and a business modeled around the 90s way of doing things should no longer be allowed to succeed in the new millennium. Please no comments like, "Is there a question in there somewhere", because it's very obvious due to all the question marks here that there in fact is questions so spare me.very freightening lish. more

Resolved Question: Question about at-fault insurance's liability in an auto accident?

My husband was involved in an auto accident Christmas Eve morning. A lady t-boned a truck and th truck came sliding sideways at him. His car , a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, is now totaled. Progressive says that since they deemed it a total loss and cut the check for GMAC (he still had a loan), that they no longer had to provide a rental. This was news to us, they never sent us anything saying that and here we have been paying for rental coverage for 3 YEARS just in case this were to ever happen. So now we are responsible for going out and getting a new vehicle when we don't have the 1200 or better it will take for a down payment. He was not at fault for this accident, and the lady who hit the truck that hit him still has her vehicle and she has totaled this truck and my husband's vehicle. Is there any way since the at-fault insurance hasn't cut our deductible check that we can get them to pay for the rental car until that point? I feel like we got the short end of the stick here. Any replies will be appreciated. :-) WE LIVE IN FLORIDA. more

I just can't take it. Really, I can't take it. I love her." Doctor: "Well, sir, I do have some bad news." Again the guy interrupts. Guy: "Doc, just tell me, did she make it?" Doctor: "As I was saying, we did all we could. Right now she's in a vegatative state, which is likely where she'll remain for the rest of her life. She can stay here overnight, but after that, you'll have to take her home because your insurance doesn't cover this type of thing." The guy slumps, just crushed. Doctor: "With the right care, which will include you feeding her five times a day, cleaning her and giving her constant care on a daily basis, she'll likely live for at least another 30 years." The guy sinks even lower, just crushed, and starts to cry. Doctor: "As I said, your insurance doesn't cover this kind of care, so you'll have to make some sort of arrangements to purchase the equipment you'll need for your wife. I would suggest you put your house on the market today and sell it as quickly as possible and buy a mobile home. You're gonna need the excess cash. It should be enough to buy the equipment your wife needs and for you to live on for the next couple of months. By then, you should be able to qualify for welfare and other forms of state and federal aid." By this point, the guy is sobbing uncontrollably. The doctor reaches over, puts his hand on his shoulder and says, "Hey, look at me." The guy looks up and the doctor smiles and says, "I'm just screwing with you, she's dead." 2......A fellow walks into a pet store and asks to buy a canary. The proprietor replies, "I'm fresh out, but I DO have a parakeet." The customer insists on a canary, until the shop owner informs him that a parakeet can be made to sound like a canary if one files the beak just so. "But be careful not to file too much off, or the parakeet will drown when he goes to take a drink of water." The potential customer decides that this is complete bullshit, but thanks the shop owner politely and leaves, sans parakeet. He goes into another pet shop and asks for a canary -- no luck. "But", says the shop owner, "I do have a parakeet, and if you file the beak just so, it can be made to sound just like a canary." He goes on to explain that filing off too much beak will jeopardize the bird's life, due to the potential for drowning when he takes a drink. The fellow finally decides that there is some merit to these claims and buys the parakeet. "Besides", he thinks to himself, "parakeets are much cheaper." His next stop is a hardware store, where he wanders into the file section, holding his recently purchased bird. The owner wanders by and asks of he needs some help. The new bird owner sheepishly explains how he intends to make his parakeet sing like a canary. The hardware store owner knowingly picks up a file and hands it to him. "Here, a Nichols #2 bastard file. But be careful not to file too much off, or the poor beastie might drown." The bird and file owner thanks the hardware store owner and leaves for home. A few weeks later, the bird owner wanders into the hardware store. The owner, recognizing him, asks how he made out with the parakeet. The fellow looks down and sadly reports "Bird's dead". The hardware store owner shares his sorrow and asks "Filed off too much beak?" To which the former bird owner replies "Nah, he was dead when I took him out of the vise." 3......The National Transportation Safety Board recently divulged they had covertly funded a project with the U.S. auto makers for the past five years, whereby the auto makers were installing black box voice recorders in pick-up trucks. This was done in an effort to determine, when accidents occured, the circumstances in the last 15 seconds before the crash. They were surprised to find in 49 of the 50 states the last words of drivers in 61.2 percent of crashes were, "Oh, Shit". Only the state of Montana was different, where 89.3 percent of the final words were: "Hold my beer and watch this!" *NOTE: Greatest advise my father gave me growing up.....:Marry a woman with small hands, that way your **** will look bigger." more

Title: Obama vows swift action to revive US economy By MIRA OBERMAN CHICAGO (AFP) — President-elect Barack Obama vowed swift action to revive the stricken US economy through aggressive government intervention Monday as he named some of "the best minds in America’’ to his economic team. Recovery will not come overnight but there is not a "minute to waste,’’ Obama said as he lost little time in unveiling a heavyweight team of economic lieutenants headed by Timothy Geithner as Treasury secretary and including ex-Treasury boss Larry Summers as a top adviser. At his second news conference since his election triumph on Nov. 4, Obama said the US economy was trapped in a "vicious cycle’’ but touted a plan to create 2.5 million jobs through a spending spree on national infrastructure. Obama nominated Geithner to take charge of the Treasury and its $ 700-billion bailout for troubled financial institutions as the US administration announced its latest rescue deal, this time for Citigroup. Vowing to uphold President George W. Bush’s farreaching market commitments, Obama said: ‘’We’ll need to bring together the best minds in America to guide us and that is what I’ve sought to do in assembling my economic team.’’ The President-elect, who takes office on Jan. 20, said his team offered ‘’a depth of experience and a wealth of bold new ideas,’’ with the understanding ‘’that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers.’’ Obama reaffirmed that he would not allow the embattled US auto industry ‘’simply to vanish,’’ but vowed no ‘’blank check’’ for a government bailout without long-term changes from the Detroit manufacturers. Geithner, 47, brings upclose experience of the financial crisis, having executed the US central bank’s burst of market activity from his perch atop the New York Fed. The former Treasury official ‘’will start his first day on the job with a unique insight into the failures of today’s markets -- and a clear vision of the steps we must take to revive them,’’ Obama said. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson lauded his designated successor for having been ‘’critical’’ to the administration’s attempts to shore up a battered Wall Street, including in the bailouts of Bear Stearns and insurance giant AIG. Geithner also received fulsome praise from the White House after taking part in talks to craft a $ 20billion rescue deal for Citigroup announced earlier by the Bush administration. ‘’He’s obviously exceptionally talented and very smart and ably led the New York Fed these past number of years,’’ White House spokesman Tony Fratto said. Obama meanwhile touted Summers, 53, as ‘’one of the great economic minds of our time’’ as he named Bill Clinton’s blunt-talking final Treasury secretary as director of the powerful National Economic Council. Obama scheduled another press conference for Tuesday, where further economic appointments were expected along with more details of a planned stimulus package that some reports said could top $ 700 billion. The appointments could include his pick for commerce secretary with New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson reportedly in line for the job of promoting domestic industry. The stimulus package should be ‘’enacted right away’’ by the new Congress in January, Obama said. He declined to reveal the cost but said: ‘’It is going to be of a size and scope that is necessary to get this economy back on track.’’ Despite the risk of stunningly high budget deficits, Obama vowed to keep his campaign promise to cut taxes for 95 percent of working Americans by raising taxes on the richest, but stopped short of elaborating a timeline. Democratic House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said: ‘’Congress stands ready to work with the new President on his bold plan to restore confidence to our economy.’’ House Republican leader John Boehner said that while he looked forward to working with Obama’s economic team, the US public did ‘’not believe increasing government spending is the best way to put our economy back on track.’’ With the main economic players in place, Obama is expected soon to fill out his national security posts and select a secretary of state -- with former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton hotly tipped to serve as diplomat-in-chief. Susan Rice, an Obama campaign advisor and a former assistant secretary of state for African affairs, has emerged as the leading candidate to be nominated for the US ambassador to the United Nations, ABC News reported. more

Resolved Question: Is anyone as concerned for this reccession?

This economical news is worse than anyone suspects, wait til 2009. America got sold out by Bush. Without these wars in Iraq and Afganistan and the war industry what other industry can support americans? Not the auto industry. How can you afford to bail out the AIG's and the banks, give tax rebates and not fix New Orleans or Texas. The states aren't recieving enough to support eduacation or health care. Yet giving money to banks and insurance companys is akin to welfare for the rich. Where is all that money going to come from. All they are going to do is print more money. The value of the dollar will fall. This is a scheme like a pyramid or ponzi scheme. Bush and Cheney should have there assets frozen till the bill is paid. People in america are paying so much for gas and health etc. yet walfare for Insurance companys and banks makes sense. No, they bilked investors and are getting amnesty from prosecution. If you are a Republican who likes this type of abuse you need you head examined. Open your eyes and smell the B.S. we got flim flammed, Its time for America to take their country back. Why fight Brittain if you are just going to let them run you into the ground 240 years later.Fight On America . Regulate and prosecute crooked politicians. Let's start with Bush , Cheney . The Enron IIWhere are we going to get the money for this? more

Voting Question: This question is extremely important!!!!!?

I'm the oldest of 5 sisters. I moved to Brooklyn with my fiance last year and after I left all hell has broken loose in my mother house. Well, the most recently thing is my sister got a car so she could drive to work, but she quit her job before they could fire her because she was taking too much time off. So, now she has no job and she can't pay for the car notes. The people are trying to repo the car. Also, she has my niece who a year old with her. She hit someone with her car and the guy is suing my mom because my sister had the car under my mom's auto insurance as a result. My niece was in the hospital recently for pneumonia and my sister is always trying to ditch her with my aunt or mom. I feel bad about it all. I want my sister to do better for the sake of my niece but each time I call my mom or talk to my aunt it always bad news. My mom can't throw my sister because she has my niece but is there a way to fix all of this? Because ultimately, the one thats going to suffer is my niece. In addition, my niece's father is not around. more

Resolved Question: Pay-as-you-drive auto insurance: do you think this is a good idea?

An alliance of insurance companies and environmentalists wants to bring a new kind of mileage-based auto insurance to California and charge motorists only for the number of miles actually driven. Called pay as you drive, the option is available from a few insurers in 34 states ... as well as Canada, Japan and Europe. One company, GMAC Insurance Group, says its customers -- whose mileage is tracked by General Motors Corp.'s OnStar system -- have reduced the premiums they pay by 13% to 54%.... The system could cut motoring costs, protect the environment and reduce traffic congestion, boosters say. Opponents, mainly privacy advocates, say they fear that insurance companies could begin tracking more than just a driver's mileage. High-mileage drivers could also see higher rates. from the Los Angeles Times http://www.latimes.com/news/science/environment/la-fi-carinsure15-2008jul15,0,6970018.story more

Resolved Question: Some individuals claim the economy is doing well under Bush?

I got into an argument with a Bush supporter who claimed the economy is doing fine. 'A funny story for those who say the same. Yesterday, while driving to visit my family I got pulled over for speeding. I didn't have auto insurance, and the penalty in Chicago is a $500 fine, suspension of license, and vehicle impoundment. I explained to the officer that I was struggling with money, and couldn't yet afford $300 per month insurance, and he let me off the hook. He told me he understood how hard it can be, given the state of the economy. He went on to say that the police department had cut all overtime for patrol officers due to economic hardships. My jaw dropped. This weekend alone in Chicago, there were 32 different shootings, with 19 of them happening in 1 day alone. Just a weeks ago, 2 people were shot 1 mile away from where he pulled me over. Most victims were kids. http://www.nbc5.com/news/15931631/detail.html?dl=mainclick (**And were talking about flag pins?**)Can we afford to elect another president who admittingly know little about complex economics and the trickle-down effect on middle class america?fangtaiyang - now have insurance, but it is clear that you missed the point of the story. You're also missing the root problem: if people cannot afford insurance they cannot buy it- if they cannot buy it the price cannot go down- and if my "nice policeman" had fined me, I wouldn't have been able to afford to buy it. So, what good would that have done? ...genius.theantilib- are you seriously claiming the the economy within the state of IL has nothing to do with the national economy? because I'm literally laughing at the idea. Resolved Question: Who agrees that companies should not be required to offer healthcare plans?

I buy my own auto/home/flood insurance on my own. I save for retirement on my own in my IRAs, annuities, etc. I think free market competition, no federal mandates, improved information/fact disclosure on best practices in treatments and costs, and more tax-deferred health savings accounts are the way to go, not more socialism such as medicare/medicaid prescription drug coverage. Resolved Question: If you live in Florida, is your home insured by MetLife?

If you, like myself, have your home insured by MetLife Property Insurance Company, and you live in Florida or any other Gulf state, then you either have or soon will receive a cancellation notice. MetLife, the friendly folks with the Snoopy dog commercial on TV, has decided that it doesn't want to take property risk anymore. Imagine that, an insurance company that is willing to abandon hundreds of thousands of policy-holders because another hurricane might strike Florida again. After 24 years with MetLife, and only two previous small hurricane-related claims, I felt blind-sided and betrayed by them. While State Farm, Allstate, and other firms have also stopped writing policies, at least they didn't flee Florida with their tails between their legs like some whipped dog! Does MetLife even care that no A-rated firms are writing policies anymore, thus condemning their loyal customers to be thrown into the expensive, state-run Citizens Property Insurance Company? At least those companies, unlike MetLife, notified the news media in advance to prepare the public for this shock. MetLife is going to lose my auto insurance also, and if I were you folks, I would have nothing to do with these back-stabbers. more

Resolved Question: Auto insurance rate increase for California?

i noticed this year 2008 when i was up for my 6 month renewal monthly payment plan that my payments were higher. i bought my car, a mazda cx-7 june of 2007 and i was paying $95 a month, now i have to pay $114 a month. no new accidents or tickets since buying the car. i was expecting nothing to change, but then i noticed this. so i called them (esurance) today and they told me that all of California had premium increases. is this true? i had a feeling they were bullshi**ing me. can someone please give me a link to this in the news or something if this is true? are there any other reasons why my premium should have gone up if i didnt change anything on it from last year? i always thought if everything is the same and my record is clean it should go down slightly every renewal? should i shop around? (26, male, san jose, ca, good driving record, esurance car insurance) more

Resolved Question: The IRS, Congress, higher taxes, and refund delays. How can the process get even slower then it already is?

I depend on my refund to be in my hands by Feb. 1st, every year to pay my car insurance, auto repairs, and buy a couple nice things for me. Please see the below for part of the article from Yahoo news. The Internal Revenue Service is looking hard at delaying the start of its filing season, set to kick off on Jan. 14, if Congress fails to pass legislation in the next two weeks. At issue is how to handle what could be a dramatic increase in the number of people facing a higher alternative minimum tax. If there is a delay and it extends into mid-February, it would slow nearly 38 million refunds worth a total of about $87 billion, the IRS Oversight Board predicts. As it is I do not receive a huge refund, but now it will be delaid, plus I will be taxed more because of their delays. This is not fair! more

Resolved Question: Auto Accident Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Heres the case. I left my light on green yesterday and a ford f 350 pulling an antique corvette in perfect condition nailed me. Pretty much took the front end of my car off. I was taken in an ambulence to the ER. Mentally i was fine from the get go, but i suffered a broken collar bone. Which sucks cause they say absolute complete healing time is 12 to 18 months. The good news is i wont be down that long. Where do i go from here. i have talked to my insurance company and they are supposed to contact me tomorrow. So i want to take some suggestions. Do i get a lawyer? What i've been told so far is to go after lost wages because i will be out of work for a while, go after medical bills(er, xray, consults). I need a car now cause mine isnt coming back. Just want many to run with this and give suggestions... Remember that i have suffered injuries, and my car is gone. more

Resolved Question: Why are the auto workers striking? Don't they make a lot?

saw on the news today that 45,000 UAW workers are striking against Chrysler. They also said that these workers make around $25 an hour PLUS benefits (I assume this means health insurance and a pension plan). I don't understand why that's a problem. I've never made more than $10 an hour at any hourly jobs. Even when I got paid salary, I worked so much more than 40 hours, there's no telling what my hourly pay worked out to. $25 an hour to me would be the jackpot. That's about $50,000 a year. With benefits, that's a VERY good job. So why are they complaining. Why can't I get a job like that? Much of it may be that they're losing these jobs b/c they're going overseas or to Mexico. I agree that's not right more
