DETROIT — The top 10 automakers in U.S. sales reported gains in February, despite massive Midwest and East Coast snowfalls, with one notable exception: Toyota. Normally a sales stalwart able to beat the industry average in any given month, Toyota saw sales drop 8.7% in February compared with a year ago. February was the first full sales month since Toyota's sudden-acceleration recall troubles began grabbing headlines in earnest about 40 days ago. Another February surprise: Ford Motor outsold General Motors for the month, the first time that's happened since 1998, when a strike at a GM supplier choked sales. Ford had the biggest percentage gain — up 43% — among the major automakers, which was worth about 500 more vehicles sold than GM. Toyota wasn't focused on preserving sales in February, says Bob Carter, group vice president of U.S. sales. Dealers and executives were instead focused on making sure customers were able to get recall repairs done promptly, he says. Toyota guesses it lost about 18,000 sales — about 18% of February expectations — due to recall news. The losses were mostly among shoppers who haven't owned a Toyota before, Carter says. Sales are back in focus for March: The carmaker announced a big new incentive effort offering customers either a 0% loan for 60 months or a low-cost lease on popular Toyota models: Camry, Corolla, Matrix, Prius and Yaris cars; Venza, RAV4 and Highlander utility vehicles; and Tundra pickups. Buyers who already own a Toyota and buy another one get two years of free maintenance on the new one. "In March, we'll be getting back to the business of sales," Carter says. Other automakers will be looking to capitalize on Toyota's problems, but Ford — which may have been the biggest winner this month — says it doesn't know how many of its buyers would have otherwise purchased a Toyota. "Frankly, our studies show that many of the Toyota buyers were still undecided as to what they were going to do," says Ken Czubay, Ford's vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service. GM says it doesn't know many Toyota customers it converted, but chief market analyst Michael DiGiovanni said it got its "fair share of Toyota saleshave all these recall have cause Toyota to lose sales moreOpen Question: Will the opposition do nothing as the speech from the Throne outlines foriegners buying our businesses?
1 hour, 34 minutes ago By Jennifer Ditchburn, The Canadian Press ADVERTISEMENT OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper is fashioning himself Canada's top frugalista with a throne speech meant to impress with style, yet cost little at the cash register. Aside from some new low-cost accessories - such as loosening of foreign investment rules and more help for single parents - the rest of the wardrobe is a retailoring of previous Conservative priorities. The agenda "recalibration" the Tories promised when Harper controversially shut down Parliament in late December consists mainly of a more restrained spending plan that will shape Thursday's federal budget. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/100303/national/throne_speech Foriegn investment --- yeah -- No thanks --- the rules we have keeping foriegners out need to be tightened not let go of The PM is about to throw the reigns away Can we count on the Liberal NDP and Bloc to be sitting on their hands for the vote on a confidence matter ( All throne speeches are confidence votes) moreOpen Question: Why does FOX NEWS put their brightest people on their business channel which most people don't get?

All this talk about health care lately and no one seems to be asking the obvious question - *why* does it cost a ridiculous amount? People blame the insurance carriers, who I think carry some of the blame but are unfairly demonized. They have to make money and denying previously sick people is the only way they can do it. I find this morally wrong but what choice do they have? It's either deny some people with pre-existing conditions or go out of business, and health insurance profit margins are fair at best. I read this article a few days ago... http://www.statesman.com/news/texas-poli… Now I understand that hemophilia is a rare condition, but $60,000 a MONTH!? WTF costs that much? This guy needs that medicine to live; he needs to be insured. I wish congress would first investigate what it is about health care that drives the costs so riduculously high, then write a bill that solves those problems. My suspicion is that the system is corrupt from top to bottom - from med schools to hospitals to the manufacturing of medicine, and no politicians have the courage to actually look into it.I'm not against tort reform, but I don't buy the malpractice arguments. I live in TX where the state capped malpractice awards a few years ago, and the costs have only gone down marginally if at all. I don't think it's malpractice driving the costs, but it may be a factor. I also think patients need to be protected and have recourse available for a doctor's mistake that might affect their life significantly. moreOpen Question: I'm german and I need help in english?

This income boost in the form of tax cuts creates more capital for everyone, expands the tax base and everyone profits. Infusion of money creates a short term boost that is not perpetual nor produces long term self sustaining capital and business. Do liberals simply not have a basic understand of American capitalism or the free enterprise system ? Or do they know infusion of money only hurts us creating more debt, hence allowing them to ride in on their white horses with their expensive social programs to save the day and burying us in more debt creating a more government dependent society ? I have read headlines like the following: "Rebublican Senator puts federal employees out of work" "Kentucky's Bunning again blocks jobless benefits" Here is the truth that you did not see on television or from the headlines hidden deep within the story: "Bunning said again Tuesday that he opposed the extension because it would add $10 billion to the budget deficit, and he attacked Democrats for abandoning promises to pay for legislation instead of contributing to a budget deficits projected to hit almost $1.6 trillion this year. Bunning proposes to pay for the extension with unspent money from last year's massive economic recovery package, but Reid objected." Congress had passed "pay as you go" but were waiving it for this measure. #1 Should federal money be spent on unemployment benefits or loaned to tapped out state funds instead? (The states have their own unemployment insurance funds.) #2 Is it a really bad idea to ask for the proposal which includes federal money for road projects aside from the unemployment measure to be part of the stimulus spending? #3 Are we seeing several ways to increase the size of the stimulus bill without calling it that? #4 Were you aware of the increased baseline numbers in Obama's budget that make parts of the stimulus bill permanent instead of temporary? Science Editorial February 5, 2010 Ensuring Integrity in Science HACKED ELECTRONIC RECORDS OF CLIMATE SCIENTISTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA’S CLIMATE Research Unit (UEA/CRU) led to worldwide publicity during the December 2009 Copenhagen climate change convention. UEA is conducting a formal investigation to determine whether UEA scientists manipulated or suppressed data or otherwise acted unprofessionally. My reading of the vast scientific literature on climate change is that our understanding is undiminished by this incident; but it has raised concern about the standards of science and has damaged public trust in what scientists do. In the wake of the UEA controversy, I have been contacted by many U.S. and world leaders in science, business, and government. Their assessments and those from various editorials, added to results from scattered public opinion polls, suggest that public opinion has moved toward the view that scientists often try to suppress alternative hypotheses and ideas and that scientists will withhold data and try to manipulate some aspects of peer review to prevent dissent. This view reflects the fragile nature of trust between science and society, demonstrating that the perceived misbehavior of even a few scientists can diminish the credibility of science as a whole. What needs to be done? Two aspects need urgent attention: the general practice of science and the personal behaviors of scientists. The good news is that some efforts to address both issues have already begun. But now we must make further advances on both fronts. Clarity and transparency must be reinforced to build and maintain trust¬internal and external¬in science. Scientists are taught to describe experiments, data, and calculations fully so that other scientists can replicate the research. Last year, the Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy (COSEPUP) of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), National Academy of Engineering, and Institute of Medicine put forth a framework for dealing with research data,* emphasizing that “Research data, methods and other information integral to publicly reported results should be publicly accessible.” Some journals have established policies that require the sharing of materials and data. However, post-publication complaints regarding data sharing persist. Despite many efforts, the scientific community has failed to uniformly integrate these standards into their practices. It is essential that the scientific community work urgently to make standards for analyzing, reporting, providing access to, and stewardship of research data operational, while also establishing when requests for data amount to harassment or are otherwise unreasonable. A major challenge is that acceptable and optimal standards will vary among scientific disciplines because of proprietary, privacy, national security, and cost limitations. Failure to make research data and related information accessible not only impedes science, it also breeds conflicts. Contention over paleoclimatic data was at the heart of the UEA/CRU e-mail exchanges. Beyond data handling, the relationship between science and society depends on the personal conduct of scientists in all that they do. Fortunately, an up-to-date guide to responsible conduct in research is now available,** and its standards should be energetically pursued throughout the scientific community. Later this month, at the 2010 annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in San Diego, NAS and AAAS will lead a discussion of these important issues, examine points raised by the UEA/CRU situation, review best practices, and encourage scientists to develop standards for data access that work in their fields. The outcome of this special session must be explicit actions, as scientists must do much more now, and with urgency, to demonstrate that science is indeed self-correcting and worthy of the public’s trust. – Ralph J. Cicerone Ralph J. Cicerone is president of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. *COSEPUP, Ensuring the Integrity, Accessibility and Stewardship of Research Data in the Digital Age (National Academies Press, Washington, DC, 2009). **On Being a Scientist (National Academies Press, ed. 3, Washington, DC, 2009).Are the warmers on this site also to be bound by these new rules? There is a major crackdown on companies and individuals who hire illegal aliens. Are you willing to get locked up and fined so you can get cheap labor? Is it even worth it? Please answer I am curious? http://www.ice.gov/pi/news/newsreleases/articles/070618kansascity.htm Roofing companies indicted for money laundering, conspiring to hire illegal aliens KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Several area roofing companies here, along with their owners and several employees were indicted by a federal grand jury for using a workforce composed largely of illegal aliens. U.S. Attorney John F. Wood, Western District of Missouri; and Pete Baird, assistant special agent in charge for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of Investigations in Kansas City, announced these indictments today. ICE agents served arrest warrants this morning in an enforcement action that resulted in arresting six of the nine individuals charged in the indictment. In addition, 34 illegal aliens were arrested on administrative charges. "Today's indictment alleges that the roofing companies utilized a business model that relied upon hiring illegal aliens," Wood said. "In fact, the indictment alleges that when his workers were arrested and deported, the business owner helped pay to have them smuggled back into the country a few days later so he could put them right back to work." Tony Evans, 48, of Stilwell, Kan., and Luis Hernandez-Bautista, 33, aka Miguel Hernandez, of Kansas City, Mo., who is a U.S. permanent resident, were charged in a 15-count indictment returned under seal by a federal grand jury on May 29. Also charged were several roofing businesses with which they are associated: Mid-Continent Specialists Inc. (doing business as New Century Roofing), Metro Roofing Services Inc., LH Roofing LLP, and LHB Roofing Inc. Finally, the indictment also charged Mario Bautista-Ojendiz, 26, a Mexican national, of Grandview, Mo.; and the following six Mexican nationals with unknown addresses: Jose Juan Bello-Lazaro, 35, Dante Cardillo-Rendon, 25, Gaudencio Bautista, 32, Victor Manuel Castanon-Flores, 26, Armando Hernandez-Gonzalez, 31, and Abel Montiel-Angel, 38. The indictment was unsealed and made public today upon the arrests and initial court appearances of several defendants. moreOpen Question: PLS READ BELOW MATTER AND GIVE ME ANSWER ITS TRUE OR NOT? AFTER I JOIN WITH HIM I ENTER ANY TYPE OF PROBLEM?
I am Mr. Muhamad Hamzah Pansuri a senior staff in file keeping section of the foreign remittance department of Bank DKI Jakarta Indonesia. I got your email id in the net during a desperate search for a reliable partner to champion this transaction. In my department I discovered an abandoned sum of $850,000. US dollars (Eight Hundred And Fifty Thousand US Dollars). In an account that belongs to one of our foreign customer Mr. Andreas Schranner who died along with his entire family in a plane crash. Crash Website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/859479.stm Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting the next of kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release it unless somebody applies for it as next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking guidelines but unfortunately we learnt that all his supposed next of kin died alongside with him at the plane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim. It is therefore upon this discovery that i decided to contact you and release the money to you as the next of kin or relation to the deceased for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and i don't want this money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed Bill. The Banking law and guideline here stipulates that if such money remains Unclaimed after nine years, the money will be transferred into the Bank treasury as unclaimed fund. The request of a foreigner as next of kin in this business is occasioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner and an Indonesian cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner. I will give you 30% of this money as foreign partner, in respect to the provision of a foreign account, 10 % will be assumed for expenses incurred during the business and 60 % would be for me. There after I and my family will visit your country. moreOpen Question: I run a newspaper but this guy from one day in the past keeps changing the news, the juicy stuff never happens?

Do you think the Networks will ever realize before it is too late for them to realize, that we are not buying what they are selling? I have not watched network news in Years and years, there is just really no need anymore, with instant News, Fox news ratings are up, yet the rest of networks are cutting or have cut hundreds and hundreds of jobs who knows how many it will be total, do you think if they would come to the center a little bit more in their reporting, then more people could relate to them, under Obama we are doing many of the same unpopular policies under obama that we did under Bush, yet not a peep out of networks about the wars and the Huge Debt, the hypocrisy is so in your face, just in the last year they networks have increasingly made themselves irrevocably irrelevant by their one sided liberal reporting bias, read this article, And this a New York Times article! http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/01/business/media/01network.html moreResolved Question: If you become enriched by the US, why would you not want to help pay for financing US infrastructure?

Isn't that like killing the goose that lays the golden egg?"Kojak", but one problem is that many (probably most) of the rich AREN'T working their azzes off, while the poor certainly are - and to little or no avail. Hard work is only ONE way that SOME become comfortably wealthy. Many of the rest are either born into wealth, steal it, are given it (e.g through inheritance), or simply don't pay their taxes! my friend's family got a small deli store. Not only do they sell snacks, phone cards and news paper, they also sell lottery tickets, beer, cigarette, and deli ham sandwiches. I never asked her if she's ok with it since it is none of my business. But another rude idiot friend of mine did asked her and she said "I don't know, it's part of business". And both her mother, sisters, and she wears hijab. By the way their store sells condoms also. So I am wondering if this is a haraam or is this just nothing important since it's just "a part of business"? It's not just her, I've also seen other muslims that runs deli stores like these. moreResolved Question: 10 Reasons not to vote Labour at the General Election?

He served in the Georgia Legislature as a Democrat and was elected to Congress in 1992 before switching to the GOP in 1995. There are six other Republicans and five Democrats in the race to succeed Gov. Sonny Perdue in November. Perdue cannot seek a third term. I am really started to get upset at our govt - I believe Bush passed the first extension period just prior to when he left office & the economy started tanking - then Obama since he's been in office has passed atleast one more extension, maybe TWO now, I'm not sure - now on today's news I heard they are proposing ANOTHER xx month extension to people on unemployment ! I mean, give me a Break. First we have the Highest deficit in the history of our country, we are basically broke as a country financially - We, he (Obama), everyone "wants" to improve the economy, and get people Back to work, right? Good lord, look online or in the classifieds, or any job search tool - there are SO many jobs going unfilled right now. Many people seem like they do not WANT to work any more !! Do other people notice this lately? I mean, originally unemployment lasted what was it, 3 or 6 months total, right? Then Bush passed some XX month extension, not sure how many more months that was added to the original time. Then Obama gets in office and he starts adding More and More extensions to the total time a person can collect unemployment. Where is this going to END !! I mean, why don't they just start PAYING people to stay home for 4 or 5 years or longer, and not work at all ? (oh I forgot, they already have a good program that does that, Welfare) I lost my job like millions of others did, back in 2008. My company completely shut down and laid off over 100 people. Yes it was horrible. I know what its like to lose your security, your income, your job, your career, its AWFUL. But come ON folks, you cannot stay home and sit with your thumbs up your arse for months and years, living off our already bankrupt federal government !! Take a lower paying job !! Take one that you thought was "below" your ability or skills if you have to. I did !! I was a manager with a large construction firm that built new homes for KB, Ryan, Arthur Ruttenberg, Pulte, etc. We all know what happened to the housing industry & construction. But I got another job just a couple months after being laid off - working at Lowes home improvement store. Sure it pays less than what I made, and it might not be as "impressive" to people that make a big deal out of job titles & status - but the point is I am WORKING and not collecting charity sitting at home doing nothing - I am SO sick of these constant extensions to Unemployment the govt is going - Is anyone else ?? Another thing to consider if you are one of the people thats been collecting u/e for 6 months, a year, or longer - WHO is going to hire you after your resume shows you sat at home for a year, 2 years, 3 years, longer ?? No hiring manager in his right mind would want to touch a person who's been doing NOTHING but living off the government and sitting idle for the last xx years. Go out there and take a job - walk down Main St and tell each store manager or owner that you will work & do any job he/she needs for $xxx a week !! I know several people who pounded the pavement, offered their services to businesses, stores & restaurants who did not list any openings, and got hired by just offering their skills/services for a reasonable price. Look, I used to make $35/hour. I make just under $15/hr now. But I like my job, I am thankful for what I have, and you just have to make adjustments to your standard of living and your spending, that's all. Please folks, I know so many guys & gals right now who are just laughing and sitting home since 2008 or 2009, doing nothing, and collecting unemployment, and laughing every time the Fed passes another extension for them. Don't do this. Its not right, and its just taking advantage of the system. Our country needs people to WORK and contribute to the GNP, and earn/spend MONEY. Not take charity from the government for months and years, without even trying to get a job.Scott - thanks for the reply, glad you agree - I too have several friends, and "friends of friends" who actually been going around bragging this past year or 2, about how they just keep getting one extension after another, and they've been goofing off and even working side jobs for cash under table WHILE collecting the damn unemployment. That really ticks me off. The whole situation is just not working any more - but I do have much sympathy on your job plight - some areas are very very hard to find work, some towns and counties have SO much unemployment, and relatively few employers, every job has like 500 people applying for the one job ! I was lucky getting into Lowes. I did not use the "job search" engines and all that online mumbo-jumbot (hotjobs, careerbulder, monster) - I just walked into the Lowes in my area, dressed nicely, looked good, spoke well, and courteously asked to speak to the store manager - he said he has some part time work he could likely get me hired for. Lucky. moreResolved Question: How does Congress feel having the President...?

Some business owners at a San Juan Capistrano shopping center say routine checks by the U.S. Border Patrol are scaring away customers and hurting their bottom lines. Store owners at Alipaz Plaza at Del Obispo and Alipaz streets told Mayor Lon Uso during his Mayor's Walk this week that they want the city to ask the Border Patrol to stop going to the shopping center. The Mayor's Walk is a monthly event organized by the San Juan Chamber of Commerce in which the mayor visits local businesses to hear their concerns. Wednesday afternoon's walk was the first for Uso, who became mayor in December. "Last year I started hearing my customers say, 'Don't go to Alipaz Plaza, that's where (the Border Patrol agents) are hanging out,'" said Isabel Rizo Patron, owner of Isabel's Beauty Salon. Rizo Patron said she has a diverse group of customers but that many of her clients are Hispanic and don't like to be in an area frequented by the Border Patrol. The Border Patrol not only supervises border and interior checkpoints, such as the one a few miles south of San Clemente, but also inspects city streets much like a police force would, said Ralph Desio, a Border Patrol spokesman. He said the Border Patrol often checks shopping centers throughout Orange County as part of an increased push to check for illegal goods and immigrants beyond the borders. Uso listened to the concerns of Rizo Patron and others but said there's not much he can do when it comes to the agency formally known as U.S. Customs and Border Protection. "We don't determine what they do or where they do it," Uso said. Douglas Dumhart, the city's economic-development manager, who has been on many Mayor's Walks, said this is the first time he's heard of concerns about the Border Patrol's effect on commerce. But he said Alipaz Plaza has more Hispanic-based businesses than others that city and chamber officials have visited in the past. The center contains a few Mexican food restaurants, hair salons, a discount store and a coin laundry. Rizo Patron and Tuning Acosta, who has owned A-Team Enterprises Income Tax Services in the plaza for 15 years, said they understand that Border Patrol agents have a job to do, but they would prefer it be done somewhere else. Word of even one Border Patrol visit can spread through the community and cause some people to perceive Alipaz Plaza as an unsafe place for them, Rizo Patron said. So they spend their money elsewhere. Acosta, a paralegal who focuses on immigration law, said he is thinking about moving to another shopping center. The Border Patrol's effect, combined with the slumping economy, has decreased his client base by hundreds, he said. The Border Patrol's Desio said the fear of customers who are staying away from the plaza "perhaps has reason." "Perhaps their customers are here illegally," he said. http://www.ocregister.com/news/border-233915-patrol-mayor.html moreOpen Question: Why did the economy grow....?

Once again, it’s about being the judge and jury. We as a people have to stop making accusatory remarks about whom we don’t know. We don’t sleep in the same bed with these people, we don’t brush our teeth in the same bathroom as these people. We most certainly don’t shower with these people, so what’s the catch? To me, the media is nothing more than hearsay and speculation. Yes, we adore the celebrities and that’s fine. We are not innocent on this Earth and we ALL go through problems, but we do strive to be better individuals. They are simply flesh and blood like us all on this Earth. We cannot and will not worship these people. Getting back to Mr. Gary Coleman, he’s a wonderful person and the Lord has made him just like he has made us all. What’s going on in his life is his business and not ours. Now from what I’ve heard and read for years, is that the man has not been WELL. At one point in time, Gary Coleman did not have his two kidneys. That had a traumatic effect on him. At one moment in the discussion Mr. Coleman talked about falling down a flight of steps and the reporter dissed him. Mr. Coleman has been harrassed and discriminated upon because of his ethnicity and his health condition. I don’t watch the television anymore because of too much bureaucracy and hatred. The news has a more negative agenda on crucifying cultures and tearing people apart. The reports on “The Insider” did the job they were told to do. They were TOLD by the head people who are in charge of the NETWORK to lambaste Mr. Coleman, which is really unfortunate. What’s really sad is that at the end of the day, the reporter that degraded Mr. Coleman, would have a good bonus for being an irresponsible, uncompassionate racist jackass. I applaud Mr. Coleman’s actions, because I would have reacted the same way he did. I’m totally sure that these same reporters have promiscuous activities going on in their very own lives and they quite naturally, wouldn’t want the media to know about it. Yet, they are so involved about what’s occurring in other people’s lives, they can’t contain themselves. Right after the interview with these snaky sons of b 1+@43$, Mr. Coleman was so upset, that he went into a seizure. I hope that this won’t happen to anyone in the news media that they care dearly about. moreResolved Question: What do you think about my politics? PLEASE ANSWER?
Don't be too harsh, I'm 13 years old and get most of my info from the news and google. I believe lower taxes can increase the flow of money in businesses, put more money into the people, and increase tax revenue. I'm a big Calvin Coolidge fan and think we should abolish income tax except for the top 2% (so we still have some government money) or just institute a flat tax I believe in cutting spending (majorly) and paying off our national debt while cutting taxes (like what Coolidge, Jackson, and Jefferson did) I'm a constitutionalists and support the right to bare arms. I think Gay Marriage doesn't affect me at all so it should be legal. I think the Iraq war was a mistake and we should only have special forces and predator drones in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen instead of 30,000 troops because these people are guerrilla fighters. I think we should abolish welfare and corporate welfare. I think Government should not be involved in the Free Trade Market Social Security should be optional. Abortion of a fetus is not okay but it is okay if they abort an embreo (however you spell it). I think we should legalize all illegal immigrants and then tighten up the border. I think that's all.
