My Facebook recently got hacked and started updating me with random stuff that is pretty embarrassing. Because, apparently, breast milk "stinks"... When her hungry baby daughter began to cry in the changing room of a charity shop, Anisa Baker thought it a perfectly secluded spot to breast-feed. So she was astonished when the manager peered through the curtains – and then sprayed air freshener while loudly declaring: ‘Your breast milk stinks.’ Mrs Baker, 32, complained but was even more surprised when a more senior manager confirmed that breast-feeding was not allowed in the shop. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1255257/Manager-sprayed-air-freshener-I-started-breast-feeding-charity-shop.html He looks a bit of a mentalist in the photo...but seriously, what is wrong with breastfeeding a crying baby behind a curtain? The Skills and Spirit of Leadership As I read through the most current edition of the “Ka Leo”, our university’s student-run news publication, I stumbled upon a letter to the editor that would create a lasting shift in my understanding of power and influence. The letter is from an associate professor, who evidently didn’t appreciate my email-blasted student response to the new contract negotiations between our system’s executive administration and our faculty union. The professor’s letter opens with the assertion, “If Mark Ing’s open letter to faculty and students at UH weren’t so laughably inept, it would be tragic.” In his public letter, the professional faculty member proceeds to personally attack me, a student at his own university, with a myriad of reproachful adjectives and rather rashly assumed statements. Until this point, my open letter of neutrality had been received with mostly positive responses from students, administrators, and faculty alike –but I knew that staunch detractors would inevitably emerge. However, I was not expecting such blatant antipathy; this particular response was heart-striking. While I opted to focus on the positive, the professor's letter led me to recall a passage from a Lewis Mumford reading that I have studied in the past: “A certain amount of opposition is a great help to a man. Kites rise against, not with, the wind.” At that very instance, I began to realize that leadership, with title, takes more than just a positive attitude and the ability to influence. In the role of an acquired or elected position of leadership, including my position as Undergraduate Student Body President, certain skills, traits, ideals, and a sense of responsibility is expected and necessary for a leader to be successful. Since these expectations are purely subjective, it is impossible to please everyone who is affected by a leader’s actions and decisions. *** Before this epiphany, my perception of leadership focused almost exclusively on the positive attitude and morality that I learned from my father. Since I was a child, my father would stress the importance of "always be(ing) a leader, and never be(ing) a follower" and "always stay(ing) postive and never be(ing) negative." In fact, he would have my brother and I recite this mantras back to him every day before he would drop us off at school. Whether in my sports, studies, music, or friendships, I would try to emulate my father's spirit of leadership, hoping to reach people on a very real, warm, and personal level, while avoiding temptations that came my way. I learned a form of influence that was driven purely by genuine care and aloha. When my father unexpectedly passed away near the time of my twelfth birthday, it was time for me to step up to the plate and set an example for my siblings, friends, and everyone around me: just as my father had. With my older brother attending boarding school at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Campus, I felt as though a share of responsibility in maintaining our family’s household, and taking care of my two younger siblings, was now mine. In order to help my mother with our family's struggling finances, I worked 50 hour weeks harvesting pineapples in the fields of Hali‘imaile during the summers of my early teen-age years. I gave the majority of my income to my mother and used the rest for enrichment summer school expenses and my driver's education in order to get ahead. When I reached the "working age" of 16, I was feeding my siblings, driving them to school, excelling in the three sports I participated in per school year, while working a part-time job during the evenings. [It was here, where I realized...type of work, help?] The pressure started to take a toll on me in high school. Luckily, a few teachers truly believed in my potential, pushed me to reach my goals, and inspired me to shoot higher. One teacher in particular, a former State attorney who was also my mock-trial coach, led me to recognize the current, bleak state of the Hawaiian people. He taught me how local leaders are needed in future generations in order to achieve positive progress in our society and economy, and to allow our culture to prosper. He recognized my interest in local politics and law, as well as my aptitude in writing and speaking, and helped ignite a strong passion for public service and Hawaiian rights into my maturing mindset. As a result of his mentoring and direction, I now try not to take any blessings for granted and strive to allow other Native Hawaiians to receive the same opportunities that I have been fortunate enough to receive. During college, I furthered my interests in public service and law by directing my coursework towards the various social sciences, volunteering with political campaigns, interning with law firms, State courts, and non-profit organizations, and by getting involved in a number of clubs and student organizations. I balanced my personal life with my passions of pla moreOpen Question: Any advice for this serious situation? Please?
Two days before christmas of 09, my young nephew was taken from the home of my sister and my parents. On the day of the baby's birth (March 28,08) the father did not sign the birth certificate. His parents and him wanted a DNA test before he had anything to do with the child. The Dna test came back he was the father. My sister and her boyfriend hit a rocky path, and my parents ended up having the baby, feeding him, buying him things, and taking care of his since day one. The father and Mother was both on drugs, so we had always taken care of the baby. His parents, never called, never offered to buy anything. So two days before the Christmas, the father, along with his mother, went to the local courthouse and filed reports against my sister saying she was threatning the life of the child, and busted a window. That day, a police officer came to our house, with papers , signed by the judge, to have emergency removal of the child. The paper also, was for the arrest of my sister, for the broken window (which was said by the father, she threw a rock through it) Micah and his mother, went to the courthouse based only on hearsay. and the removal lasted way past christmas, his presents still untouched undearneath the christmas tree. They know nothing about the child, they had seen the baby, from my counting, maybe 3 times since his birth. When we was granted weekends, while the father had temporary custody, my sister had to get supervised by my mom. When he was at our home, the first time we had seen him almost in a month, we called social services to investigate them, for we knew that they were very unfit, do to the drug use of the father. The local police searched our home, through cabinets, through my room, through every space in the house. They had found nothing. They later went to the home of the father and his parents, and found drugs. (A snorting plate with residew, a snorting straw, and filters) in the room where the baby had slept. The police later asked the local sheriff if they we're to be arrested. He replied with no,don't arrest them. The baby spent the night with us that night, only to be drug into court again. The social worker, sided with us, and so did the cop. The social worker found us very fit, and stated about the drugs found throughout the house. The judge ordered the father, temporary custody again..Leaving the child in the unfit home, once again. To be ever more cooperative, we allowed our family to be randomily drug tested, my sister had been off drugs for awhile, so we allowed them to randomily drug test us, also we had mentioned that the father didnt pay ANY child support, and was behind months and months. When we allowed them to randomily drug test us, it all came back negative. They on the other hand, had to "schedule theirs with a family doctor later on" which gave them time to get anything out of their system. Still fighting with the court. I am 16 years old, and even I know this looks very suspicious and very wrong. I know that this baby, this innocent child, needs to be home where he belongs. He has been with the father and his parents since those two days before christmas. When he visits us on the weekends, hes ALWAYS sick, hes been on 4 antibiotics and hes been there for that time. The mother, who had lost a daughter a few years ao, claims hes a diabetic and has asthma, because he eats candy??? When he was here, in this clean enviroment, he was never sick, and nothing was ever wrong with him. I know him, I helped raise him. My parents, good hard working people, are still fighting for him. While my sister was on drugs after the birth of the child, my parents basically was his parents. Taking care of him, and paying for everything. He needs to be home where he belongs, but its hard when it feels like the court system. Our county is listed one of the most corrupt in the state, it was even on the news twice before. The other grandfather, who is a CPA, does the taxes of the judges, lawyers, and the high ranked people of our town. The boyfriend before the baby was born, always told us that his father, "knew how to pull the strings to get away with stuff" thats why the father of the baby, had always somehow slipped past things, when had gotten in trouble years prior. I know that theres always two sides to a story. But a baby needs help, he doesnt belong in a home with people who dont even know him. Any advice? Please don't be rude.Thank you! We wont give up! moreOpen Question: what are some cute posts to put up?

Fox Nation headline falsely claims "Obama Triple[d] Budget Deficit to $1.4 Trillion" Fox Nation: "Obama Triples Budget Deficit to $1.4 Trillion." The Fox Nation linked to an AP article posted on Fox News.com that reported that "the federal budget deficit tripled to a record $1.4 trillion for the 2009 fiscal year that ended last week." The article further reported: "The unprecedented flood of red ink flows from several factors, including a big drop in tax revenues due to the recession, $245 billion in emergency spending on the Wall Street bailout and the takeover of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Then there is almost $200 billion in costs from President Obama's economic stimulus bill, as well as increases in programs such as unemployment benefits and food stamps." The fiscal year for the budget is from October to September the next year. This spending is definitely Bush' yet the Cons run around saying it's Obama's spending. But in January, prior to Obama's inauguration, CBO projected $1.2 trillion deficit I can't trust a word they say. FOX or the GOP.It's right in front of you yet you still refuse to see it. The $1.4 Trillion deficit was there before Obama took office. Like I said the fiscal calender for the budget goes from October to September. In September 2009 that $1.4 Trillion deficit was already there, Before Obama took office. Can you not see this? And of course FOX knew you wouldn't and played it up. There's an interesting piece ( http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/science/article7043753.ece ) on blogging on controversial scientific subjects in The Times today, announcing that Richard Dawkins is discontinuing the comments section of his blog, following threatening and abusive remarks. The article discusses similar issues with blogging on global warming noting: [quote] -------------------------------------- ""Professor Roger Pielke of Colorado University is an expert on extreme weather and disaster impacts. He was an author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change but disagreed with how his work was represented in its last report, which he blogged about. Fierce abuse ensued, with some coming from academics masquerading behind pseudonyms. When one appeared to threaten Pielke’s children, he tracked the blogger down and found he was a professor. Pielke has been stung by the non-academics, too. He describes on his blog the “giant fish” of the public intellectuals in the blogosphere pond, then the “big fish” who feed them and the unqualified “minnows” — the amateurs — and the way they interact in the blogosphere: “To more effectively attack someone’s reputation they ... rely on the minnows of the blogosphere, people who see it as their sole job to ‘trash’ someone’s reputation via innuendo, fabrication and outright misrepresentation. Among these minnows are controversialist bloggers like Tim Lambert, who are professionally unqualified to engage in the substance of most debates (certainly the case with respect to my own work), yet earn their place exclusively by making mountains out of molehills.” Lambert, 50, is a computer scientist at the University of New South Wales who spends up to six hours a day blogging on climate change. He supports Mann’s hockey-stick model and has posted tirades against bloggers and science journalists, including Jonathan Leake, The Sunday Times environment editor. Lambert acknowledges that the facelessness of blogging can encourage more personalised attacks. “If you’re writing something on a computer and you’re not face to face with someone, it’s quite a different way of communicating,” he says. “Someone might be more inclined to be aggressive.”" ----------------------------------------------- On the other hand, the article notes, bloggers do raise the profile of important issues, keep them alive and in the public eye, and have often found important errors in the areas they blog on. Do you think that blogging - on both sides of the global warming debate - is useful, or does it generally descend to the petty and vindictive? PS - I recommend reading the article for anyone with an interest in the debate.. EDIT @ MTRStudent - Thanks for your response. "Like many toddlers, Zak Hessey was a fussy eater who refused his mother's healthy home cooking. Concerned about his falling weight, his parents sought the advice of doctors. That simple act triggered a shocking chain of events that led to the youngster being put into foster care for four months. Paul and Lisa Hessey believe in the long-term benefits of healthy eating and rejected advice to feed their two-year-old son high-calorie snack food such as chocolate, crisps and cakes. To their horror, social workers put Zak into foster care 'to assess his needs' and allegedly threatened the couple with the loss of their parental rights if they fought the decision in court." Thought i would get a conversation going on the safety of the internet. My question posed really has to do about policing the virtual world of the internet. Numerous cases have been brought to attention where this virtual reality collides with reality itself. I mean they're numerous cases where even death has become the final result due to the interaction within the internet (Nadia Kajouji, Ryan Halligan and Megan Meier are prime examples). I mean the RCMP's code of conduct on sites that post bomb-making instruction is that it is only illegal when someone purchases the materials. I honestly believe we need to take a step back and analyze the effects it has on our modern society. I mean is it time the police hire the geeks and tech whiz hired by companies like Future Shop and Best Buy over the 'grunts' that hold majority within the police force. Like recently they're a surge of hiring of police officers within the Ontario communities of Peel Region, Halton and Toronto I believe (firsthand observation), yet is it affective? I believe if they hired technicians and people who spend time hacking and phishing for profit and gain it would be more affective over hiring more grunts patrolling the streets. More and more criminals are relying on the internet and technology to communicate and command their group so it seems to be the time for the governing forces to catch up. Remember back in the late 1800's and 1900's the great societal boom was unfathomable power over nature and the resources it feeds us. Now we are entering the great frontier of a virtual world. Is it time we enforce and act to protect and govern this new world? What are my chances of this question showing up on there? And do I get anything good if that happens?Fhgf what the hell does that mean? moreVoting Question: Muslims only: Can you help me?
Thanks for reading my question. Yesterday, I woke up to a scary dream, in which I found out that my dad was cuffed and hidden by a ghost and a girl I used to like in 8th grade was also in our house--and was most likely also a ghost. I remember discovering my dad in the bathroom and running to our family room where my ghost-impostor dad was. Then I brandished a cloth or something else and tried to recite a dua, which I remembered pertained to ghost protection. But I could not remember it, so instead, I recited the kalmah. Afterward, I woke up drooling--I have never drooled asleep before. Also, unbeknownstly my mom brought and watched a movie called "A serious man." In the beginning of the movie, there is a weird incident with a ghost, which really irked us; also I never related my dream to anyone. My question is, could there be a meaning behind these dream and coincidence? I might also mention, that I have been having serious internal conflictions with reality of our existence, and science news feeds linking atheists with high iqs also aided the conflict. Recently--for the past two years--my faith has been very tumultuous--I can range from a highly devout Muslim to a demure, confused person. I ask you to please help me by providing any information that would dampen my confusion. Thanks again and I hope we will all become stronger in our faith. moreVoting Question: Does this dream have any significance?
