Open Question: Should I join the US Marines or US Air Force?

I want to join the military as a reservist and if I like it transfer to active duty can I change my MOS if I make the switch to active duty. I know these branches are completely different and that in the end its my choice but id like to hear your opinion. I feel like joining the Air Force is the smarter choice with the better quality of life, better tech and gear, less chance of being shot, MOS's that I could do in the civilian world but sort of boring sitting behind a desk/computer. At heart I feel like joining the Marine Corps. I like their brotherhood and will to be there, better training, I think infantry would be a lot of fun but wouldnt help me in the civilian world. As a reservist in the Marine Corps id only be able to do infantry in my area. I dont want to do SF in the Air Force but I wouldnt mind being an aerial gunner, something in a plane or helicopter cause I like to fly, or work in the air field command towers. Know anything about these MOS's. I have a friend from Afghanistan thats working with the US military as a translator hes worked with every branch except for the Coast Guard and is leaving again this sunday with the Marine Corps and I asked him what was his favorite branch and he said the Marine Corps cause they were much better trained, organized, and fun. Maybe that says it all more

Open Question: Why wasn't THIS 5 mics?!?

Inspired by Escobar, who used to ask these questions a long time ago. The album that has been nominated for today is Soul Food by Goodie Mob. The source, in my opinion, has been very biased towards the east coast when it comes to ranking classic albums 5 mics. I can count on 1 hand how many southern albums are on the list. Soul Food by goodie mob is a classic, socially conscious album that should not be overlooked. With subjects dealing with the new world order, to stories about the slums and survivial, this album takes you on a visual ride to the dark side. Personally for me, i was most impressed with the production of the album. Once again, Organized Noize produced a great album with funky samples and instruments. ON is probably the most underrated producers next to easy mo bee. With a good bass system in your car or house, this album just oozes soul all over the place. What are your opinions on the album? What is/are your favorite songs from it?Because i care about issues that affect minorities. Even though he's not a fav. of mine, 2pac was very socially conscious. I just like music that talks about issues. Same with TLC and their songs. more

I've tried putting it on and off shuffle and nothing will work! HELP ME!!!!But I want to put it in a certain order! Not by artists! And it won't let me drag them where I want them.... more

Resolved Question: short life summary on Catherine de Medici?

so i have a presentation tomorrow and i had my speech ready but my teacher says its too long can you summarize my speech? I was married to the French King Henry II and was mother and regent of three other kings—Francis II Charles IX, and Henry III. I had great influence over my sons and am thought by some to have started the famous Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Day in 1572. I was born in 1519 to a powerful Italian prince from the Medici family. My mother died a few days after giving birth, and my father died a week later. My father's relatives, among them popes Leo X and Clement VII, took over her care. Protestants sought a truer form of their faith than that offered by the political and corrupt Catholic Church. The rapid growth of Protestants soon made them a powerful force in French affairs. In 1533 Pope Clement arranged the marriage of me to fourteen-year-old Henry, the duke of Orleans and younger son of King Francis I of France. I eventually gave birth to ten children, beginning in 1543. The death of my husband's older brother in 1536 made Henry and I next in line for the throne. My husband, now called Henry II, had been cared for at age eleven by Diane de Poitiers, who was twenty years older. Despite this age difference, they became lovers. Diane had more influence over him than I did. Diane was even given responsibility for raising my own children! The Catholic leaders of France and Spain made peace in 1559 partly because they needed money but also so they could unite against Protestantism. The treaty was sealed by the marriage of Philip II of Spain to Elisabeth, the teenage daughter of King Henry and I. At the joust, however, a lance that pierced his eye and entered his brain injured King Henry. Henry's death a few days later brought our oldest son, sixteen-year-old Francis II, to the throne. Sensing an opportunity, Protestant leaders quickly organized a plot to take over the court of Francis II. Their plan failed, and the royal army arrested the leaders, executing fifty-seven of them. This did not end the conflicts in France; from this time forward, the Protestant Navarre family and the Catholic Guise family began a long struggle. The death of Francis II the following year made me regent for my second son Charles, who became King Charles IX at the age of ten. Through much of the 1560s, the two religious groups were at war while Charles and I tried to avoid siding completely with either camp. I tried to keep the country running smoothly in the face of this constant tension. The feud between the Navarre and Guise families became worse when the Protestant leader Admiral Gaspard de Coligny ordered the assassination of the duke of Guise in 1563. The signing of the Peace of St. Germain in 1570 brought a temporary end to a decade of war. Among the treaty's provisions were the decisions that my daughter, Marguerite, would marry Henry of Navarre, the Protestant leader, that the Protestants would be given several territories throughout France, and that Coligny would return to his position in the royal court. I hoped he might act to calm his fellow Protestants while I played the same role among Catholics. But Coligny quickly moved to become a friend and adviser of King Charles IX, leading many to believe he was planning another takeover. I decided to dispose of Gaspard de Coligny once and for all. I accepted an offer from the Guise party to have him assassinated, hoping that it would lead to revive power for my own party. The assassin shot Coligny but failed to kill him. After talking to me and his younger brother Henry, Charles finally accepted their claim that Coligny was using him, that Coligny planned to overthrow the whole Catholic court, and he and the other Huguenot leaders should now be finished off. At two in the morning on August 24, Saint Bartholomew's Day, Catholic troops moved to kill the injured Coligny and other Protestant leaders. Eventually all sense of order broke down; looting and fighting broke out across Paris, and over two thousand men, women, and children wound up dead. I was reported to have ordered the attacks, but this hasn’t been proved. Another civil war began, but by a strange turn of events, leadership of the Protestant party now fell to my youngest son Francis. Placing himself at the head of the Protestant forces and dreaming of a crown, he declared that his older brother Henry, who had just been elected to the throne of Poland, was no longer available to rule France. When Henry left to take the throne of Poland, it prompted another Protestant uprising. With my usual energy, I organized forces to stop it, and with my usual decisiveness, I witnessed the executions of its leaders. I also witnessed the death of my son King Charles, aged twenty-four. I recalled my favorite son, Henry, to take over as king. Henry III was crowned in 1575 and married, but he had no children who might eventually assume the throne. He also had disagreements with the Guise family, which complicated thin more

Resolved Question: At a loss of what to do...?

My husband is 26 years old and I can't get him to do anything to help me out. We're seeing a marriage counselor because we've been having problems communicating. One of my problems is that I can't get him to do anything. I ask him to do the dishes at night preferably after we eat so they can just be done and we can relax for awhile then go to bed. I ask him to do the litter box every other day so that it doesn't start to get too full or smell. I would do it but I was pregnant until August and after that I started doing it myself so I knew it would get done and I wouldn't be wasting my breath asking, I'm pregnant again and can't do it and neither will he. Our therapist recommended that I write out a schedule and have Lance(my husband) read it and make sure he agrees with it. I wrote it out, he agreed, but he won't follow it. All I ask of him is dishes, litter box, trash, and to sweep and mop twice a week. I end up having to get angry with him to do the dishes. I wait until like 1 or 2 in the morning and when they're not done I get flustered. If I don't remind him to do them I wake up in the morning and they're not done. He rarely does the litter box without being told to and he half asses sweeping and mopping. I look past that because I sweep and mop pretty much everyday anyways. All the other chores, the vacuuming, dusting, laundry, organizing, picking up, cleaning the glass, etc. etc. I do. He hardly ever bathes our son, once every two weeks if even and he changes maybe 1 or 2 diapers a day. Does 1 feeding if even, hardly plays with him. His idea of playing and bonding with our baby is to sit on the couch and watch tv with him or put him in his jumper while he sits next to him on the computer. He never gets on the floor and play with toys or give him tummy time or ANYTHING!. I've tried talking to him and I've told our therapist but neither of them are doing anything about it. Lance always says he'll try harder but he doesn't. He's just coming across as selfish to me. I feel like I'm doing everything and he gets to just go to his job (that alphabetizes cd's, dvd's, video games and plays video games) and hardly pays the bills. I don't respect his job what so ever but I don't say anything to him about it because he enjoys it and I want him to be happy, but it's not a hard or stressful job so why can't he help me out a bit? I do sooo much around here between the chores at home or taking care of our child and he does nothing. I spend hours at the grocery store and in the kitchen striving to make his favorite meals and food he'll love and he always tells me that my job is easy and he'd love to "sit at home and do nothing" why he thinks be a stay at home mom is so easy is beyond me. I hardly have time to take a shower! Am I over reacting about all of this? Or do I have a valid reason to be upset? I don't know what to do to give him motivation to help me and think about me and what I need. AND when it comes to in the bedroom he's selfish in there too. He will NEVER be on top. He's always begged me to and we've always had a problem with getting me to have any pleasure from it because it takes me longer than 5 or 10 minutes to get off. I've asked him and our therapist has suggested that 30 minutes or so before we get intimate he goes to the bathroom and takes care of himself so that when we get together he'll last longer. He won't do it. I remind him and he won't. When we have sex it's when HE wants to and we do it how HE wants. He doesn't even think about me and how I would like something out of it. I love the act of being close to him but sex is more than that too. It's giving each other pleasure and he doesn't try to do anything for me. I'm a woman and have needs that a vibrator can't always take care of. I don't have a vibrator but he's talked about getting me one so that we don't have to fight about sex anymore. Which is bullshit to me. I felt like slapping him when he said that, but I controlled the urge. I feel really awkward about spilling everything but I can't take it anymore... I know marriages are a lot of work but I feel like I'm the only one working at it.Sandy Ego- I keep getting pregnant by him because I love him. You get married and have children with the man you love. Things aren't great now but like I said marriage is work and I have faith in him. I'm not going to go file for a divorce because things aren't perfect. I just need advice and you were absolutely no help. If you're not going to help why answer?Wife and Mom- You are rude. It's long because I'm giving the full story. Have a problem don't bother answering. You're "answer" was a waste of time for both you and me. It's sad that 2 points means that much to you that you'll put me down in that way. I'm a woman who needs help, why are you in here if you don't offer that? more

Voting Question: Give me funny answers to these cheesy, hypothetical questions/situations?

1) You are supposed to meet your friend in an hour to study for the Science test. But, your favorite movie just started. What do you do? 2) You have been failing your algebra class all year, so your teacher is giving you the opportunity to get tutored over the summer. You know education is much more important, but you don't want to give up summer vacation. What do you do? 3) The unpopular kid at school just asked you to the dance. You reluctantly say yes, just to be nice. Then, the most attractive kid in school asks you to the dance. You are about to say yes, then you remember about the unpopular kid. What do you do? 4) Your school is putting on a show. You decide to try out for the lead. You get the second biggest part. On the day of your show, your schoolmate organizes a party. You really want to go, but if you do, you will be letting the whole school down. What do you do? 5) You beat somebody in the school talent show, and the bully wants to fight you for beating him. He says "You beat me, now I am going to beat you. Friday after school." What do you do? LOL! These are so cheesy!!! How should I answer them?! more

Open Question: Want to organize FAVORITES with Internet Explorer 8. I want to control how my favorites are listed.?

However, when I go to organize, it will only let me move to another folder. I want some say-so as to what order they are listed. For example, alphabetically or manually move up or down the list.Kyler, Your answer helped to a point. My "banking" folder was at the bottom of the list. It took a while to ever see a black line (how do you control where the black line goes?). However, the line would jump several space ahead of my arrow and then sometimes disappear. As I was moving up the list, it kept opening other folders and trying to put my "banking" folder in other folders. Once I lost my "banking" folder and had to open every other folder just to find it. After about a 1/2 hour, I was able to move my "banking" folder up to the second spot; but now I can't move the first spot folder down the list---no black line ever appears. more

Resolved Question: Texas. Why does everyone think it is the worst state in the U.S.?

Here's an example of what America thinks: 1. Texans. Socially retarded acts of bravado. Lack of self awareness. Isolationistic in thought. Kind of like someone who was raised under a rock, but the rock was big, so they boast about how big the rock was. There's more, but, man, it's so sad - and they don't even know it! 2. Texas politics. I am a conservative who votes republican. Texans are rednecks who vote republican. should I buy an "I'm with stupid" T-shirt? 3. Tx is a Mexican border state. Complete with roads traveled by drug cartels feeding the increasing violent crime rate, drug use, and ever expanding prison population in Tx. That isn't nice and I don't have this problem in my state. 4. Is EVERYONE in Tx chewing tobacco?? 5. Leading state for hate groups. There are more known hate groups in tx then any other state. They all hate different groups for different reasons. When you get right down to it, no one is safe in tx - not even texans. Testament to tx long tradition of nice, down to earth, clan members and level-headed cult fanatics. 6. There are Two seasons in Tx, hot and hotter. There is a third if you count the hurricane season. A fourth if you count squirrel season. 7. Texas' branding of Tex-mex. Uh, we all know it's just Mexican. Maybe Kansas should capitalize on Cantonese food and call it Kan-Can. It's catchier, and doesn't sound like a gas station when you say it. 8. Over industrialization of undesirable industries. Yes, when you visit tx, you get the full impact of what a cesspool they've made out of their state with factories, oil refineries, and chemical plants. Don't get me wrong, it is good somebody is manufacturing this stuff out there, but, man, you've got to be six flags short of a theme park to live amongst the stench-filled, chemical run-off, heat-fest that is tx. 9. Texas as a state ranks in the top 5 of all states for all major pollutants. Go figure. The EPA says you can't breathe the air for fear of carcinogens, can't drink the water for fear of toxins, can't eat the seafood for fear of mercury poisoning, and the Taiwanese plants spill high levels of run-off into the neighborhoods. That isn't good either! 10. "Clampet" stereotypes which aren't all together untrue. I've never seen any other collective bunch unwittingly living up to negative stereotypes. Perhaps some t-shirts can be air dropped to them. You know, t-shirts that say something like, "thank god i struck oil, cuz my double-wide needs a fixin" 11. Texan's general confusion between pride and reason. there is a healthy pride, and then there is a texan pride. actually, a texan is proud of his state like a branch davidian is proud of his cool-aid. 12. "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS". Why would I need to mess with Texas when it's already messed up? What's wrong with the old standby: Yeeeeeeehaw!!!!..and other inane slogans that demonstrate an inability to articulate one's self. 13. Corrupt institutions of business. Enron was a great. But, no one can beat the oil companies for blood money, environmental destruction, greed, and corruption. a texan would tell you that corruption only exists in zip codes outside their magical state. is this true? 14. Cults and fundamentalists. Kind of self explanatory. Apparently, tx is the perfect place for those who like to organize and be merry while preying on kids. Gotta love tx. 15. Backwards thinking. State first? Country second, or is there something between state and country like, i don't know, socks or peanut butter? You gotta love state first mentality. If the country is attacked, would tx try to side with mexico just to save their own state? Kind of like, if the house was burning, you'd only save your favorite bathroom. Lots of reasoning there. wait a minute! i'm going to start a new one. it's called home owners association first! Hey tx, do you shoot people in the back too? Buncha anti-american secessionist quitters! just kidding, only 20% of you are the American Taliban. 16. Worst humidity and dew point. Yes it is true. Houston/bay area is tied with annual averages for the worst humidity and dew point in the united states per NOAA. In a nutshell, it's like a sauna. a constant sauna for 7 months out of the year. so is hell. 17. Hurricanes. you got it. more of my tax dollars go to natural disasters like hurricanes in tx. nothing like every hurricane season fearing the wrath of god upon your family and home. 18. Tornadoes. this must have to do with the fact that tx leads the nation in the amount of trailor homes as a percentage of all homes. the good thing is, tx is flat and has nothing around for 100's of miles. so, not many people should get hurt except those who ask for it. you know, texans. 19. Trailer trash. "T" stands for trailor trash, tornadoes, truck stops, terrible, tacky, terrorist, taliban, travesty, and one more...uh...dang, i forgot. 20. Prison over population. tx just can't kill 'em fast more

Resolved Question: Does anyone collect articles from parenting magazines?

I subscribe to Parents magazine and receive few other ones free in the mail. Often they have good articles with advice I think I could use in the future (my baby is only 7 months old now), but I always end up putting the magazine away and forget about it. I have tons of them and I thought of going through them and clipping out my favorite articles. Then, I guess I could organize them by topic. Is anyone doing this? Voting Question: What should I major in?

My favorite subjects are Math, English, & Visual Art. I hate history, politics, and government. I don't care for it. Science.. is okay. I'm not sure if I'd want a job involving a lot of science. I really don't want to do anything medical though. I'm pretty passionate about Photography, but I'm not looking at it as a job. I love helping people, and being around people. I like organizing things, and keeping things clean. I really like decorating things, making things match color-wise, keeping things in balance, ect. Working in an office sounds appealing. :) I really want a moderate to high paying job. I also want to do something that I won't have to worry about keeping my job. more

Voting Question: I'm so angry and irritated!! Why am i so irrational right now?

Just recently ive been finding myself getting angry, irritated and frustrated with my other-half. We've been together about 3-4 months and the 1st few months were great. We got along swimmingly and didn't want to be apart. But just before christmas i found myself becoming irrationally irritated with him over the littlest thing or nothing at all? I would snap, be uncommunicative, get frustrated with them and i have no idea why. We even end up arguing about the most trivial of things. I managed to get over it for about a month but now i feel it creeping up again. I think it might be stress related. We have decided that we are moving into a flat together though also with a group of mutual friends, but it seems i am doing all the work in finding our new flat. I check the websites, i check the emails, i ask all the questions and organize the viewings. All that he has to do is drive us to the respective houses at the right times and he seem to think thats all the contribution he has to make. He even gets mad at me for not giving him directions fast enough. Everything always seems to be my responsibility. And more so, when i schedule a viewing that only he can go to because i have to work the only response i get about the house is that it's 'Alright' which is quickly becoming my least favorite word out of the english vocabulary. Even recently us prospective flat-mates got together and he decided to go have a beer with the other guys whilst giving me a list of everything that had to be done -_-!!! which my prompt response to that was do it your bloody self! your dreaming if you think im just going to sit here and do everything whilst you guys go have all the fun. (the other prospectives aren't really much help either apart from the other couple who have been of marginal help) I almost feel like he's expecting way to much of me and maybe me too much of him? But if we dont find a house in the next few weeks we will end up homeless. Whenever i ask if he's stressed or worried at all its. 'No of course not' 'i don't get stressed'. which just makes me angry all over again, because when he gets stressed he gets short-tempered with me. Don't get me wrong he's lovely when he wants me to stay at his place he drives me to work in the mornings when i do stay even if i have an early start. He's usually interested in what i have to say, and i don't mind going out of the way to do things for him but it really would be nice if he started helping me more. I really can't do this all on my own and it feels a bit like i am im only 21 for god's sake! I barely have any life experience and im suddenly expected to organize every minute detail and undertake a huge task on my own. Sorry for ranting but thats how i feel. An outside opinion on the matter would be nice as it might help me with my irritation issues. Hit me with your truths people :) Thank you.The thing is i love him and i really don't want to break up. Can anyone recommend any techniques or have any ideas on keeping my cool? more

Voting Question: Favorites in Internet Explorer?

When I hit my little Star on top left for my favorites, things are out of order, folders here and there. I'm not a newby at all to computers, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to organize this in an easy way. I go to My Computer, and into my username, open up favorites, they're all just as they should be there. Folders organized alphabetically, things not in folders are arranged after them. Any suggestions, I know, trivial, but it's driving me crazy when I need to find something. more

Resolved Question: What is your favorite half-marathon course?

I began running half marathons last year and so far I have ran two half marathons, Chicago Rock n' Roll half-marathon and the Disney World half-marathon in Orlando. I didn't like the disney one because we barely ran threw the park it was mostly on the roads and everything seemed poorly organized. What is your favorite half-marathon course? At what age did you begin running them? * I was 16 so I am hoping I can take off 20 minutes from my personal best more

Voting Question: What do you think of my personal statement?

Feedback please? (good or bad) (btw i haven't completely corrected it with spelling mistakes etc, just wanna know how its looking!) I'm applying for courses in Journalism 'Inform. Influence. Change. The writing of a journalist has the power to do all these things. In 1984, a journalist wrote an article about the famine in Ethiopia; the article was read by thousands of people. One person who read the article was influenced and decided things needed to change. The name of that one influenced person was Sir Bob Geldof, and that one newspaper article was the inspiration for the Live Aid concert, raising £150 million in just one day. The fact that the writing of a journalist can change the world to that extent is intriguing to me, and is one of the reasons I love to write. Journalism is a challenge; capturing some ones attention lies solely in the headline. Keeping some ones attention requires a great understanding of the subject and a keen passion for writing, which will shine through the words on the page. My passion for writing came by when I was young, whilst everyone else seemed to dread English class; I was different and enjoyed it. I also had an ‘unusual’ love for literature at a young age. I did well in English at school and gained two A’s in English literature and language in my GCSE’s, and since then my love for writing has only increased. After my GCSE’s I took a National Diploma in Media Production. I chose to do the National Diploma instead of A Levels because I already specifically knew I wanted a career in media and thought the course would push me further in the right direction. The course has given me a lot of analytical skills and has also given me a lot of experience researching. These were definitely my favorite parts of the course - writing, analyzing and researching. Although my National Diploma course was a vocational course, I am very aware that a BA degree course in Journalism will be very academic. In a way I see myself at an advantage. Despite my course being vocational, endless amount of essays were written for my course, as they were in school, and I have also experience a more practical side of the media. This is what makes me certain the academic path is the one I want to go down. I have also had work placements at ‘Around Town’ magazine, which gave me an insight into what it’s like to work and write for a magazine, and ITV Jersey News, which opened my mind to broadcast journalism. My outside interests include reading, horse riding, fashion and travelling. I have always been a keen reader, when I was younger I favoured authors such as Jacqueline Wilson and J.K. Rowling. Currently, my favorite author is Nicholas Sparks, the first book I read by Nicholas Sparks was The Notebook, and after reading that I bought four more of his books straight away. That type of writing, the type that makes you want to read more, is inspiring to me. I also love to read books that have been adapted into films, and comparing the two. Another one of my interests is horse riding. Having grown up around horses, I’ve always enjoyed horse riding. This year I enrolled in a part time college course to obtain an NVQ Stage 1 and Horse Care qualification. I have had a part time job since I was 13, and currently work in the fashion retailer River Island. Having had a part time job for so long has made me very independent and responsible. I am hard working, have excellent social skills and am very well organized. I firmly believe that motivation is the key to success, which is why I am certain I will be successful in the course I have chosen.' How can i improve it please?? thank you!! more

Resolved Question: Can anybody please help me with my essay to get accepted into a high school?

Okay, so there's this high school that I REALLY want to attend. I have to send in an essay (less than 500 words) about myself and why the school should except me. Here's what I have so far. Please read it and tell me what I should add. Thanks(: To introduce myself, I'll start by stating all the basics. My name is Aneta L_____ and I am one of the many eighth graders from Bergen County that are trying their hardest to get accepted into Bergen Tech. I attend _______ Middle School. I've been living in ________ all my life and I have always dreamed of attending Bergen Tech. Since freshmen year is just around the corner, the tension grows more and more. Soon enough, I will find out which school I will be attending the next four years of my life. Hopefully, that school will be Bergen Tech. Since I grew up with two older brothers, sports are something that I love the most. The one thing I absolutely love doing is watching and playing hockey. Its been my passion for almost three years already. I've started playing hockey in elementary school and ended up winning in the championships. From then on, I enjoy watching professional hockey games every time I have the chance to. My favorite hockey team is the New Jersey Devils. I've went to two games and while I was there, I felt like all my problems around me disappeared and I was doing something that I love. Another thing I love doing is drawing. I enjoyed drawing since I could remember. Everybody that has seen my artwork, says that it's really good. Most of the pieces I create look difficult to do, but come easy to me. There are also many things I like to do when I'm not watching hockey or drawing. Whether it's going to school, hanging out with my friends, watching movies, or even helping my mother out in the kitchen. Education has always been my highest priority. There are many reasons why you should accept me into Bergen Tech. First off, I take school seriously and I know that without a good education, I won't get anywhere in life. I am a very organized person and I like to keep everything neat. In the seventh grade, I was placed into an honors social studies class. Since then, social studies has been my favorite subject. I do not like disappointing my parents, and most importantly, myself. My brother, who is currently a senior at Bergen Tech, has told me many good things about the school. He told me that there is a great student faculty atmosphere and that there is a wide variety of electives I can choose from. After hearing about the school, I now know that this is the school that I would like to be attending for the next four years. I know that I will always be determined to work to my highest ability. more

Resolved Question: What was your favorite Half-Marathon?

I have ran two so far, the Chicago rock n' roll half-marathon (august 09) and the Disney half-marathon (i ran that today!) and Im planning on doing the half-marathon is Lisbon, Portugal. I personally didn't like the Disney half-marathon (orlando) because it was poorly organized. Which course would you recommend? I would like to sign up as soon as possible. My only issue is that the race cannot be during my Cross Country season (september-november). Thanks! more

Resolved Question: How to be better organized for my classes (class description)?

Okay, the second semester is approaching, and I want to do better than I did the first semester. (Not that I did bad for the second. I have the ability to be very organized, but then I just don't keep up with it. So I'm going to describe my classes, and you tell me if I should have a binder, notebook, or what. First period is study hall, so naturally nothing is required. Second period is geometry, it's a very easy class. We basically take notes and do homework. That's it. We rarely get any worksheets. What so I need for that class? Third period is french, it's another fairly easy class. We basically take notes and occasionally do an activity in the book. We have a workbook, and we rarely get worksheets. What should I have for this class? Fourth period is chemistry, this is by far my least favorite, and hardest class. We have tons of worksheets, and the material is very hard. I have to take notes by myself from the book, because I don't understand the way the teacher does it. It's so hard. What do I need for this class? Fifth period is history, it's probably the class I do most well in that's not an easy blow off class. We take notes that we need to know for essays on the test. We also get one study guide that we use for the whole 9 weeks in which we have to answer questions (short answer essay styled). What do I need in this class. 6th period will be gym (it's sign language right now), so naturally we don't need any study materials for gym class. 7th period is honors English, it's a class that is not terribly difficult, but a lot of things get due at one point. For example, we'll spend 3 weeks basically doing nothing, and then all of a sudden everything is due at the end of the fourth week. We basically read books, and we have to answer study & discussion questions. We also are required a composition notebook, to write these journals that we are assigned. Those are my classes, please just say "second period: and put the supplies here". Also, if you want guaranteed 10 points, give me study tips, organizational tips, time management tips, etc. more

Resolved Question: Why are there random website links when I go to "My Computer" and clink on the bar at the top?

This is probably a tad confusing since people have a slightly different set up depending on a lot of stuff...But I'm just confused why it would have those links up there. It's nothing bad, because I've visited those sites, but they aren't in my favorites or anything. So why these and not other ones? I'm just confused. I don't know how they get there or why, and I don't know how to clear them up, which is annoying cuz I like to have everything in my computer organized well. more

Resolved Question: Trying to work out a deal with my teacher do you think it will work?

ok so im a freshman in high school and we have gym class. for some reason, gym class really stresses me out. i dont mind the health unit where we're in a classroom learning about sex, staying heathly ect.. but the actual running around doing stuff stresses me out. last year gym class was my favorite class, but this year i hate it. i love my teacher hes really nice and awesome and i like all the people in my class but i just hate the class for some reason and its really stressing me out and all i think about is worrying about gym class. im not lazy i go to the gym every day and work out on my own (like a real gym with exercise equipment). i like working out on my own. my teacher has this thing where if you miss a gym class, you can go workout on your own and have your parents write a note saying you worked out for 1hour and 30mins (thats how long gym class is) and he'll give you full credit for the day you missed. i was thinking of just doing that every gym class and working out a deal with him and my school director (person who organizes my classes) do you think it would work to replace gym class? i would still go to class when we had health units do you think it will work? more

Resolved Question: Is the US the greatest contemporary Terrorist?

Very, Very short list of US military interventions: http://academic.evergreen.edu/g/grossmaz/interventions.html The list was compiled by Doctorate Students at UC Berkeley, Harvard, and Evergreen as a side project. But, like i said, it's a very short list. Some of my favorite examples of blatant US terrorism and hegemony from the list: - 1963 Iraq: CIA organizes coup that kills president, brings Ba'ath Party to power, and Saddam Hussein back from exile to be head of the secret service. - Iran 1953: CIA overthrows the democratic regime and installs the Brutal, Repressive Shah - Chile 1973 CIA overthrows democratically elected government and installs the most Ruthless military dictator in South American history, Pinochet - And of course, my absolute favorite, G.W. Bush invades Iraq to "save Iraqi's" (i.e. secure Economic, Geopolitical, and Strategic Interests). The war has minimally led to more than 100,000 Poor Iraqi's dying (according to the NEJM: http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/360/16/1585), and maximally more than One Million, according to the most respected medical journal in Britain, The Lancet (just do a google search). Resolved Question: Show of the Week: Wire and String's concert bootlegs of '09 special edition?

This is week 48 of my Show of the Week, for those that are interested in past weeks there are links on my profile. I have missed a few weeks, so I have picking shows for the Rock and Pop section for over a year now. This is a special edition of this series devoted to my own personal concert bootlegs over the past year and a half that i have owned a Zoom H2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoom_H2_Handy_Recorder and took it with my to most of the shows i went to. It has been a learning curve to be sure, its not always easy to get a good bootleg, and as such what you will hear are taken from less than half the concerts I went to over the year. Sometimes the crowd noise ruined it, other times they have been the sound equivilent of an out of focus picture, still other times the levels were pegged and the sound distorted. These records are some of the better ones sound wise, and even these are kind of hit or miss. Here is a playlist of some highlights: http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/playlist/Wire+And+String+Bootlegger+S+Choice+09/22263665 Quite a few of these are local talent around my area, so you likely wont hear them elsewhere. The Hearts of Darkness- Local afrobeat band. The arrangements are frequently robbed directly from Fela tunes, but man do they put on a show. Seedlove- local reggae band Pokey LaFarge- regional act doing a 20s-30s Jazz Blues kind of thing Green Card- more local reggae Arnold and the Young Sextet- Arnie Young is sort of a local legend on the jazz drums and this was his band of the moment The Schwag- Grateful Dead tribute Fred Anderson- unsung jazz legend of AACM, national act that rarely leaves his home in Chicago and I felt pretty fortunate to see him, and meet him, and that he played 3 sets. The Felice Brothers- I have done a show of the week on them before They Might Be Giants- you should know them I might add others to the list when I find them on the hard drive, I wasnt very organized. MQ: How do you like these bands? Any favorite recordings? MQ2: Have you ever bootlegged a concert? Any good recordings you can post?Sugaree- I know what you mean, some bands that I know are well taped I won't even bother because I know someone else is going to do it better anyway. more

He's a convicted murderer, but he's broken out of wizard prison and he's on the run. He likes to keep in touch with me, though...keep up with news...check if I'm happy..." -Harry Potter "Yeah, Quirrell was a great teacher. There was just that minor drawback of him having Lord Voldemort sticking out of the back of his head!" -Harry Potter "I will only truly have left this school when none here are loyal to me... Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it." -Albus Dumbledore "You should have died! Died rather than betray your friends, as we would have done for you!" -Sirius Black "You are truly your father's son, Harry..." Sirius Black WOW< I have a lot :/ If I don't stop now, I won't be able to :D more

Voting Question: Does he want to cheat on his girlfriend with me?

I met a guy at work (my manager) and we instantly bonded over our favorite type of music. I suggested we go to a concert together and he agreed straight away, despite only knowing me for 15 minutes. He leant me some CD's, and we text occasionally. I never thought anything of it until this week, a few days before the concert. Whenever I'm working and he's not, he will come into work and buy something and talk to me. He told me he's picking me up for the concert, but he's organized something because he's not driving, but it's a 'surprise'. He called me up after I finished work one night, and we spoke for over an hour. He was surprised I didn't have a boyfriend, telling me I was "too pretty not not have a boyfriend". He talks to me differently than the other girls at my work, and touches me occasionally, on the shoulder or gently nudging me when I pass him. He has been telling me how excited he is for the concert. I'm only 19 years old, and he is 29 years old, and I know he has a girlfriend because someone else at work told me. He only mentioned her to me the other day in passing, but after he had called me and texted me and organized something special for this concert we are going to together. I have a few friends around his age with girlfriends, and they are horrified by his behavior, and think he is interested in cheating on his girlfriend with me. more

Resolved Question: How do you say and write these sentences in Japanese?

I asked this before, but someone told me to use an online translator which I do not trust because they are not always accurate. 1. I'm glad you decided to visit my site. (as in a website) 2. Thank you for stopping by. 3. I enjoy...(whatever the hobby is) 4. I like to cook, but I like to eat even more. My favorite foods are spaghetti, ice cream and sushi and I like to drink peach flavored iced tea. 5. So, you want to know something about me. 6. I am currently studying Japanese. 7. I am good at making friends and like being around children. They are so adorable and they say some of the funniest things. 14. I love animals. Cats are the best. I really wish I could have one. Having a tiger or dolphin would be neat too. 15. I am a pack rat. I can't organize or throw things away to save my life, but I am working on it. 16. I hate large groups of people. Resolved Question: How can I motivate myself to clean my disaster of a room, and what is the best method for cleaning it?

I feel incredibly lethargic at the moment, like I don't even have the energy to make my bed much less clean my room, and even my favorite music isn't inspiring me to get the job done, but it's seriously such a wreck it's driving me and my dad mental. It isn't just a typical teenage mess; it's like a disaster zone, and it's not only my room because I have an attached alcove, sitting room and bathroom, and three walk-in closets. I love reading the paper and rarely get the time to finish it all in one day, so I save them, and literally one whole closet is filled with old newpapers that I either wanted to keep or never got around to reading. I don't even know how or where to begin. The only organized space is my desk; everything else is a mess. Short of torching the place, what can I do? How should I approach this huge job? more

Resolved Question: How can I enjoy my favorite pasttime of basketball in college and beyond?

I am 16. Let me say firstly that I do not play organized basketball. Over this summer, I was looking for stuff to do and I literally got addicted to playing basketball. I love shooting hoops in my front yard, working on freestyle tricks, working on moves to fool people in 1 on 1, and soon will start juggling basketballs. But I am starting to worry about college. When will I get to do this? Will I be able to bring 3 basketballs for juggling? My dream is to audition (not necessarily make it) for America's Got Talent doing basketball tricks and I don't want to give it up. But at college, will I still be able to shoot hoops and work on freestyle tricks? And after college........would it look a bit odd to see an adult shooting hoops a lot and doing tricks? This would be the time when I may be in a serious relationship or something and that could look weird. Basically, I'm worried about my future not being able to do what I love. Would I still be able to enjoy basketball in the future by playing a couple hours daily? For those that think my dream is stupid, I don't care......look what people can do with basketball tricks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iaFima9ZyA more

Voting Question: I can't understand why my dad is so hurtful sometimes?

I love my dad, but it seems like ever since my brother in law and sister moved down here that he got hurtful to me. Right now I am having to choose who I want ot live with, because in the summer my mom is moving back to CA and my dad will be staying here. I have been upset with this. Ontop of that, my brotheri n law and sister are also moving back to CA along with their two kids. Now we're having a custody battle for my nephew who is prettymuch my best friend, Around that time, I asked dad for a few small containers to organize my stuff with. About 2 months before I bought two large storage boxes, but one storage box is strickly for my box turtles warm soaks every few days, so I have pretty much everything in the one large storage box. I asked him for small storage boxes because all my stuff is in that one box, meaning all my aquarium and pet items are mixed in with the board games and such, but he said "I won't buy them because I don't want to support your hoarding." I just stared,, thinking why he would say that. Literally, if I put all my stuff in boxes other than my clothes and aquariums, I would have two storage containers full or mostly full. One box would be for my stuffed animals, and the other box would be for my aquarium stuff, games, and other things. Since my brother in law and sister are moving, I came home with a box of stuff they were getting rid of because they said that I could go through it and keep what I want to keep and get rid of what I want to get rid of. They also gave me two see-through drawer containers. I came and I was starting to organize and dad said "You're a HOARDER, you are. If these are here by the end of today I will throw it all away!" And about 30min before he had thrown away my moms great aunt's trumpet kazoo as well as the life game, because he said the trumpet kazoo was "broken" (it was missing the tip off of one of the buttons which doesn't do anything anyway), as well as the life game had no pieces (which I put in another container because there is no box for that game). He through those away when cleaning my nephews room, which we played life with him about a week ago and he was playing with the kazoo earlier today. He said that I was a hoarder and he's going to throw away anything I leave downstairs by the end of the day more than once. At that same time, he said if the books in the garage (that he put there!) are still there, he's throwing them away. I finally just broke down and cried. He was like "huh, why you crying?" and he laughed a little. I went upstairs and he doesn't seem to care. I don't understand why he keeps saying things. When we moved away from CA I got rid of most of my stuff. The only things I kept was a few of my favorite things which I still have now, a few stuffed animals and my polly pockets (which I keep only because they're very special) I'm so upset by how dad is acting now, I love my dad and I don't understand why sometimes he is mean. It seems stupid to be crying about this all, but it's just really hurtful to me. What would you do? What should I do? Why is he acting like this? more

Resolved Question: How do I create a great (as in terrible) villain? Book suggestions to help me out?

I write non-fiction very well, but as much as I'd love to write fiction, I shy away from it because I can't seem to think of a terrible enough villain. Unfortunately, villains are always my favorite characters. That's why I feel the need to really develop the antagonist. I love mentally deranged and highly driven villains; think Macbeth, Hatsumomo, and over-organized society in dystopian novels (my favorite of which is "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin). I feel that a great villain can overpower the protagonist, which I LOVE! Could my inability just be because I'm young (18)? I haven't really been exposed to that much literature and clearly haven't met any truly horrid people to base any villains on. I do, however, love history, and I've always found the madmen (Rasputin, Ivan the Terrible, etc.) the most fascinating. Should I turn to them for inspiration? Does anybody have some suggestions of books with magnificently macabre villains? I'll be reading Hamlet in English in a few weeks, so that should help, right? What about Russian literature? I'm most interested in Russian history because it's loaded with lunatics. I'm assuming that a lot of literature would have reflected these individuals. more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my favorite names?

Well, when I get married and have kids someday I want to have 4. I'm very organized and I like to plan ahead, so for some reason I'm always freaking out about names. Please include your favorite and if the name will age well. In order, these are my favorite names. Girls: Megan Samantha (Sam) - This one I am especially worried about. Will it age well? Cassandra (Cassie) Lindsay Boys: Joseph (Joey or Joe) Nathan (possibly Nate.) Zachary (Zach) Benjamin (Ben) Thank you! - OCD. more

Resolved Question: Droid Eris Really Worth Giving Up My favorite Phone?

Ok, so my mom wants to get me a new phone for Christmas, and her work is giving her two free Droid Eris' by HTC because she works in a new department and since Verizon has the whole buy-one-get-one-free thing, anyways, currently I have the phone LG EnV 2 and I don't just like the phone I LOVE IT, its my baby like really it has a name and I feel naked without it. My phone needs to be retired though, It's getting really slow and i've dropped in the toilet before, and Yeah I sort of need a new one. Since my mom gets a free phone she wants to give it to me. And I want to know if getting the eris is really worth putting my favorite phone to rest. These are the things that wouldn't of been nice, that I NEED -If I drop it, It can't be a pansy phone and just completly die on me. -If I put it in my pocket will it go from vibrate, to loud, to silent like blackberry does. -Can I put sent and recieved messages in two different places/folders. -Can I organize all my pictures in one folder by date. -Can I lock/save messages. The biggest thing- Can I customize my backround??? Can someone with an HTC, preferably the Droid phone answer this for me.. Thanks much 10 points automatically to the person who makes up my mind for me 8) more
